  1. After spending the last few weeks with the battletome I think this is roughly the force that I'll go for. It's not the most efficient but it fits my collection and I think it will be fun. More fun than a Cyst list, at least I've also got the brothers Glott and/or Daemonspew to swap in for some games. I'd have liked another wizard and I think the thing that took me the longest to decide was not to take a GUO (the price down here in Oz also helped. $230 or 130pounds. Yikes!!). I'm hoping that Gutrot offsets the slower movement of the army with out a GUO with bell. I loved using the Blightkings when I could get +1 -- sometimes +2!-- To Hit on them and just hope that now there are still solid.   2. I made these to keep records of my Warhammer Quest games. They are basically copies of those on the back of the Hammerhal books but in a form that I can print and write on. The GM record sheet also has the Silver Tower trials so I can keep track of what I've played and where to start new trials. I thought you guys may find them useful too.   4. It was $200AUD but the price was lowered. The new 40k box is $220AUD and that is in line with the US price given the current exchange rate. The pricing structure here in Oz may be changing for the better. Finally. Maybe.
  5. No stand out "best" in my view. I tend to use GW and Vallejo the most, but that just because they are easiest to get for me. GW for the bright colours and Vallejo for the more muted realistic stuff. I've also been using quite a lot of the Scale Colour range of late. They are great because they have a very different range for colours from GW and Vallejo and are super matt. They tend to be on the muted side of things too. Just use what you can get and learn to get the most out of them. Hope that helps some.

  7. Warhammer Underworlds: Shadowspire looks like a bit of fun to play between real games. Looking forward to it.
  8. One thing that AoS hasn't played on much, but that i would like to see, is that balance between chaos and order is best for mortals. Too much of either makes the lives of normal people miserable. Moorcock's Eternal Champion is always striving to create balance between the two where/whenever she/he/it turns up. Sometimes the EC is an agent of chaos, sometimes of order. AoS seems to be far more cut and dry than Moorcock's universe in that chaos is evil and order is good (though it hasn't mentioned order as a things AFIK) at the moment, so in AoS I'd love to see Sigmar and his pantheon of super friends (Nagash, Grungi, Malerion, GorkaMorka etc) being depicted as totalitarian monarchs going too far in their leanings towards order. Both extremes could be seen as evil or bad and the poor mortals would be caught in between.
  9. My two cents: - Mordheim-style more detailed skirmish rules. -More Path To Glory factions. -Triumph and Treachery rules like the 8th edition ones. Most fun Warhammer ever! -A random scenario idea generator table like in Rogue Trader. A D66 table of crazy ideas that are stepping off points for narrative games.
  10. Sure, there are plenty of counters to it but it is fun when it works :-) It's a good option for Rotbringers but by no means "optimal." If you want that you'd be better off with Stormcast, or a Bonespliterz rukk or whatever is the new hotness.
  11. I've been taking Blightkings and using the Lord of War or Dark Avenger traits and they are amazing. You can also roll for Unpredictable Destruction for +2 to hit. I try to add the Sorcerer Lord's Daemonic Power spell allowing re-rolls of 1s to hit, wound and save and Festus' Curse of the leper spell for a -1 to the enemies save roll. So with unit of five and Unpredictable Destruction (never a sure thing) you would have 15 attacks hitting on 2 (rerolling 1s) with any four, five or sixes causing D6 hits and re-rolling 1s to wound with a -1 save. Sure, it's an all eggs in one basket situation but very little can survive it. I've had a unit of five score fifty wounds in a singe round of combat a few times.
  12. Yep, that's it. Not sure where they were exactly. Seems like each of the 'returning' characters had a different way to escape the destruction. And I don't think it's been stated how long between the Old World and the Age of Sigmar. All that is said is ages or aeons. Long enough for civilisations to rise and fall etc. Yes, there are all of those things, but they just haven't focused on those parts. The Realm of Heaven outside (below) Azyrheim is described at points as something quite like the old Worlds Empire, and as the re-conquest of the other realms settlers from Azyr seem to be moving and setting up new communities. The Season of War campaign that ran mid-year was based around three of these new cities. We've just not seem much of this because the lore has been focused on the Stormcast kicking the doors down into the other chaos dominated realms who don't have much contact with "normal" people. I'd guess that will change with newer releases. Most of this stuff is in the novels which a well worth a read if you have a chance. They really help bulk out the setting and string together a cohesive narrative too.   13. Great read and nice to see Warlords from the "everyman" perspective. I would have been down having a ball of a time with you on the "bottom tables" too! Watching the live feed of the top tables made me feel a bit like a WWI fighter ace watching an F-18 go in for an attack run. Things like the hundreds of Bonespliterz bow shots made my head spin.
  14. I'll add my voice to the chorus of praise. It was a genuinely watchable broadcast easily as good as most sporting events and better by a huge margin than anything that happened to be on the TV at the time (here in Australia that meant primetime Saturday and Sunday night). Ten hours didn't seem like a long time watching it! The thing that I took out of it, and that should be lauded the most, is that it captured the positive feel and hobby-building excitement of an event like this. It really showed Warhammer as we all experience it and not just the anti-GW trolling or misunderstanding of the hobby that often dominates the echo-chamber of our on-line community. It's also wonderful to see the passion and personality of GW staff again. GW proving that they are DunCANs not DunCAN'Ts.
  15. The quality is certainly hit and miss at the moment, though improving. Some is stunning, some not so much. I suspect all this is a function of taking in art from freelancers. There is now less of an opportunity for consistent art direction and fixing "problem" pieces during the production process as the artists are not resident in the studio. Now they get what they get and sometimes if its no good deadline pressures mean it gets used anyway. In time we should see some of the artists being weeded out and more work being given to the better guys. The art in the Beastclaws book is much better than that in the Bloodbound book as an example of this.
  16. It certainly seems possible that there will be no more major releases like Sylvaneth this year. It's been a crazy 12 months of AoS releases and 40k (and 30k) as the cash cow needs some love. Perhaps we will see incidental, discounting, releases like the Silver Tower hero expansion or Gorechosen in addition to the X-mas bundles. That's fine IMO; I need time to catch up and work on everything I've got in the last year! As for new terrain more generic stuff would be great. Ruins of age of myth civilisations maybe. Realm specific stuff, like a giant monster skeleton for the Realm of beasts or magma-fueled magical tower for the Realm of Fire. I could also see them doing the order equivalent of the Dreadhold stuff to represent Sigmar's forces garrisoning the reconquered parts of the Mortal Realms along with houses etc for settlers coming from Azyr the the wake of order's victorious armies. Exciting possibilities.
  17. That daemon prince is amazing!!! The conversion and sculpting work is brilliant work. You might call it Omunyongororwa, The Maggot Lord, Consumer of Hope, The Wretched Harbinger but I'd call it Snuffie.

Last Saturday saw the next game in our slow running narrative campaign between the vampire lord Nashoran with his necromantic ally von Kreiger and the Nurgle champion known and feared as The Pus-Lord. After von Kreiger's escape from the raid on his workshop Maggotwobble, The Pus-Lord's mage and personal physician, was planning on using some of the vile potions left behind from the fleeing necromancer to barter with another practitioner of the dark arts for new, as yet unspecified, arcane knowledge. The vampire and necromancer wanted the potions back so a tussle was inevitable. We played with two smallish forces of about 1000pt from the GHB and a bespoke battleplan that we made up on the spot. I set up Maggotwobble and 10 Chaos Warriors in the centre of the table guarding a cauldron with the stolen potion. The rest of the armies would come on random table edges as the game progresses. The player with the most models around the cauldron at the end of battle round five would be the winner. Death took the first turn and brought on a Varghulf, two Morghast Archai and a huge mob of 30 skeletons. The archai charged the warriors and effectively deleted them before reinforcements could arrive in my turn. In my first turn on came a unit of Chaos Knights that charged the bone constructs and five Blightkings that began to deal with the Varghulf. The Archai chomped through the knights before being felled themselves by the blightkings who had killed the Varghulf. On the other flank Orghotts Daemonspew was swamped by skeletons and was eventually taken down to just one wound despite killing (re-killing?) 16 in one combat phase with the help of battleshock. At this point the death heroes made their presence felt with Nashoran charging and killing the remaining knights. He was then counter charged by the Blightkings and killed. Von Kreiger lurked cowardly on the board edge and arcane bolted off Daemonspews last wound. Oh, the indignity! With only the Blighkings and von Kreiger left on the table the last couple of turns were a comedic sideshow that ended with the necromancer charging the Nurgle devotees and coming off the worse for wear for it. Victory for the Pus-Lord's forces again!

  21. The next meet up and games is planned for the 6th August from mid afternoon at the House Of War in Ringwood. Last Saturday we began to use some of the rules in the GHB and started to get to grips with this "points" thing, though some open games were also played. We also had a spread of all the grand alliances on the table and, you will be pleased to know, Nigel the grot big boss saved Christmas from the vampire-grinch Nashoran (it's a long story...) If you are free and want a game you are welcome to come down and join in. Next time we are planning on 1000pt games.   22. Thanks. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. The skin is the old Deneb Stone mixed about 50:50 with steel legion drab ( Rakarth (sp) flesh would work too) as a base. I used glazes of Agrax Earthshade and then Reikland flesh as the shades. Highlights are more glazes of pure Deneb and Deneb with white. I kind of make it up as I go so can't give you exact ratios, I'm afraid. Hope it helps anyway. Been doing more work on Mr Demonspew and hope to have him ready for his game debut next Saturday.
  23. Our next meet up and games is planned for the 23rd July from 7pm at the House Of War in Ringwood. The last few nights we have play some really great open play-style games. Leading to a raid on a necromancers workshop, a meeting engagement that saw the necromancer Von Kreiger leg it as soon as the vampire lord died and battle for a realmgate at a Nurgle dance party that saw Marius Leitdorf return from the World-That-Was on the advice of Daisy, to name a few. On the 23rd we are going to try out the GHB matched play rules with 1000pt armies playing one of the scenarios in the book. Small sized games means that we can play a more games in a night. If you are interested feel free to drop in and bring an army to join in on the fun. These are couple of the games from the last meet up.
  24. A few of us from the AoS: Melbourne Facebook group are meeting from about 7pm this Saturday night at The House of War in Ringwood (http://houseofwar.com.au/). The plan is to try to meet every couple of weeks from now on out and maybe more often during Season of War. If anybody is interested you'd be welcome to join in. The more the merrier really.
  25. It's Deathworld Base with a wash of Agrax earthshade. Highlighted with Ogryn Camo and given a glaze of Doombull Brown in the shadows to give it some more zing and a rusty look.
