  1. But of the three sizes suggested, all 3 are still almost 4' wide, 1 is 5'" and the other is 7'6 so if these sizes were used they would still require a table 4' wide and now nearly 8' long. And these are minimum sizes... Imagine units like Stormcast with their 5 inch move having to get across a minimum 90' board in 5 turns! The Core Rules have it as at least 2" square but the battleplans are all measured as if on a 6'x4', as are the terrain generator options in the GHB so I would guess that this is the size recommended. If the sizes all change then like previous comments have said - warscrolls have so many size and distance requirements then it all gets complicated - 6" ambush, 9" from enemy, 3" combat zone, Spell ranges, distance between objectives and more. I get that these could be adjusted to match but it's gonna get awkward with various sizes. It would be a lot easier if they wanted to change everything in 3.0 to just set any new sizes as a straight percentage - 2'x3' (50%), 3'x4'6" (75%) and then 4'x6' (100%).
  2. I don't know how 40K works at all and I have a limited experience of AoS too but if there was a generic CP system, would that take away another element of difference between armies? It seems that there are some armies that have more access to CP's, some less, some armies that use a lot, some less and the same for summoning too. Isn't it this variation that makes for the interesting games? Doesn't that breed the tweaking of rosters and load-outs? The more that abilities and so on become generic, the more the armies are too.
  3. Nagash looked deep into the realms at the innumerable battles and wars that were being played out over the Mortal Realms, watching with hawk like eyes that transcended space and time. His plans were coming together. The Necroquake had been successful. All souls will be his at the end. A Knight of Shrouds caught his attention. It's mind was as sharp as the Sword of Stolen Hours that it was wielding. His aura of Death was as a beacon to Nagash, a bright black glow that drowned out the souls around him. He watched with interest. Rarely does a soul stand out as being as black as the one he watched now. Keldimir was it's name. Without speaking, and in the blink of a mortal eye, Nagash scoured the realms for suitable companions, souls as dark as Keldimir, with the wit, guile and servitude that would make the most of this newly found Knight of Shrouds . He found them one by one, separated by the distance of the realms as measured by men but as close as pages in a book in when viewed by Nagash. Amondor - a Lord Executioner. Grinderel - a Guardian of Souls. Rasark and Gathus, a particularly intriguing pair of Spirit Torments, brothers in life and again in Death. Nagash weighed up his choices. Yes. These would make for a formidable Army. An army that would reap souls for Nagash and bring them back to him. For all are one in Nagash and Nagash is all. Nagash seized their souls and bought them before him as Arkhan looked on. Keldimir bowed. "I am here, my King". The Reaper Brigade was formed.
  4. Molgrur stood face to face with the Lord Arcanum who's golden armour shimmered and glinted as the gryph-charger, skittish with fear, chirped and jostled his rider. Never one to turn down his chance to fulfil his destiny and turn into pure Chaos – the gift from Morghur himself - the Beastlord had accepted the challenge by the Lord Arcanum to fight in the middle of the battlefield, before their troops faced each other. He revelled in the chaos that a full battle bred, the smell of sweat and blood mixed with fear and terror, but this was the chance to stamp his authority on the Herd at the same time as gifting another soul to the Chaos God. The air was tense as the chaotic eyes of Moglrur searched for every and any possible detail that would lead him to victory, he noticed the dried blood on the Gryph-chargers back leg and how he favoured it when he put his weight on it. He saw the dent in the chest plate of the Lord Arcanum, it looked fresh. The metal would be weakest there. He breathed heavily, the cold air showing his breath as steam, dragon like, and then with an almighty roar, he raised his man-ripper axes, embued with the power of the mutating Gnarlblade and crashed into the Lord Arcanum with a power that took the Stormcast and his mount by surprise. Smashing the axes down, again and again, slicing through steel and flesh and feathers. He shivered with chaotic energy as the Lord Arcanum succumbed to the frenzied might of the Hero General of the Mutilating Brayscourge, a manifestation of Chaos itself. The Gryph-charger was panicked and so the razor like beak and claws were uncoordinated and ineffective. As the herd brayed and bellowed behind him, and the dust settled and the mist cleared, Molgrur raised the grisly trophy of the severed head. The herd around him let out a guttural cry as the chaos grew in them, feeding them with the energy they needed to fight even harder. The stampede towards the shocked Stormcast lines had a noise and a ferocity that would have shaken the bravest of hearts. The Battle had begun.
  5. Having just finished my terrain with some detailing - Azyrite Ruins and Sigmarite Mausoleum - all Chaos Black dry brushed with Dawnstone - and now with bones. metal and plants painted - I am awaiting my last BoC to arrive on Sunday and they will be my contract for the month. So 1 Cygor, 10 Bestigors, 10 Ungor Raiders and a Great Bray Shamen. However if lockdown proves as productive as it has been that will be about 10 days worth 🤣🤣
  6. Love the colours @Greasygeek but god I hate those Hexwraith models!
  7. Change is never good when it goes against what you wanted or expected but it's always a good thing when it benefits. My decision to go head first into this hobby, especially into an older army and the added risk that entails, is that pound for pound there isn't a hobby out there gives you as much bang for your buck. I get to read a huge and evolving lore and watch countless videos. I get to choose from hundreds of options and then build the models I want to. I get to paint them how I want. I get to play with them in a multitude of ways, in a game that is different every single time, and then even if they lose value in the game for whatever reason, I can play with them still anyway in open games with my mates anyway. I've had lots of hobbies, some more expensive and most a lot cheaper, but none have given me all those things and that why I don't think it's expensive relative to what I get back and if a unit does get changed, then I've had a lot of fun out of it and will continue to despite the changes. Will I want more armies in the future? Yep. Will I want more units and models, or at least the ones I have already for my current armies, to be updated? Yep. Will I get frustrated when it doesn't happen? Yep. But I'll have a great time in the mean time 😁
  8. Also Nighthaunt Weapons of the Damned Artefact: Slitter: Every time the bearer is chosen to fight, but before piling in you can roll a dice against a model within 1". If the roll exceeds their wound characteristic, it is slain. Meaning you can pick the model you want to be removed from the unit, not your opponent.
  9. Also remember that unless also specifically stated in the battleplan, you don't need to leave your models in the 6" area. You can leave it and still get the points until the enemy put more units than you on it. E.G. Turn 1 - I put 6 models on an objective and get 1 point. Turn 2 I move those 6 away but no enemy turn up. I still control it and get the points at the end of turn 2. Turn 3 the enemy moves 1 model in the 6" and I don't get any back to it. They now control it and get the points.
  10. You can heal D3 wounds of a unit if 3 of any enemy models are killed. OR. If the enemy were Stormcast You can heal 3 wounds OR return D3 worth of wounds that can return models. You need to have 3 different enemy models killed per Spirit Torment so no sharing 😄
  11. Excellent. That's what I've been doing but just read through the warscroll now and just wondered if I'd been doing it wrong.
  12. The point I was making which I didn't actually put in my post is that to a new player, like me, all of the armies are new. It doesn't matter who it is, whether it's new to Aos 2.0 or an army from WFB ported over in dribs and drabs. The new players reference point is zero so its all new. In terms of attracting new players, I don't think new armies or new units is the draw. Maybe the advertising of a new army makes you aware of the world but if GW had advertised a new boxset with BoC against DoK with all the old models and with all the old Battletomes and lore I still would have bought it because it was new to me and the army attracted me. Despite the outcry there would be from existing players. I think that the new armies, units and Battletomes are more for the existing player base to try and tempt you into starting a whole new army and forking out a few hundred quid.
  13. Quick question. Banners give +1 when the unit runs or piles in. Is that +1 to run and then +1 to pile in or do I pick?
  14. Not all new players are drawn to new armies though. I am new and after being given the Nighthaunt half of SoulWars and building that up, I have now gone the other way and have started a Beasts of Chaos one. I'm mindful that they need an update, I'm aware that this may mean that some units may be lost and I knew that that they don't seem to be particularly popular, or meta, but none of these things stopped me. I wanted Beasts and so I bought them. So in my case, their old army has been financially better for them than the Nighthaunt one was.
  15. This would be a great help for me, anything to build up my knowledge of this Army would be great. I feel that I have a good grasp of my Nighthaunt, mainly because there is so much to read and watch to fill in the blanks and build up on the nuances that bring out the abilities but with BoC, it just seems a huge mish mash that IMO is unwieldy for a beginner. I've got the Battletome but that doesn't seem enough. I feel like I need the Battletomes of StD, Slaanesh, Nurgle and Tzeentch too! After watching the AoS Coach doing the BoC video, which was basically an advert for Desolating, I realised that I could build up a big army, all in one Battalion and then I could learn all the other bits as time goes on. Playing against my son helps but I'm looking forward to testing it on new people and different armies.... And also bear in mind, that up until 4 months ago I didnt even know what AoS was!!! I definitely think its playable but having one eye on not buying models that may be obsolete with a new GHB or Battletome is a little distracting.
  16. I'm sure that you all mean to mention Beasts of Chaos too when you talk about Armies needing updates... 🤣🤣😉
  17. So this is what you meant yesterday. Am i right in thinking that the Battalion gives you the Slaanesh keyword so then the Chaos Lord and Sorcerer Lord are also given the same one so they are no longer an ally? The Sorcerer and the Lord can then buff the Spawns with 2 combats and re-rolling saves on top of any buffs.
  18. I skipped over that part of the Battletome as I wanted a pure BoC army, and by concentrating on the Desolating Beastherd I havent looked at Bullgors or Doombulls either. I think I'll stick with my Gavespawn Desolating Beastherd and either run or summon in the Ghorgon, Cygor, Shamen and Chimera. By the time I've managed to pay for and paint that lot maybe they'll be some changes like you say. And if not, I'll start at looking at the Chaos Gods. Thanks for taking the time to chat this through.
  19. Thanks. I have seen a load of battle reports and they make out everything else is ****** for BoC and only ever seem to ally into one of the Chaos Gods. You never know, maybe a new battletome and units will come one day too 🤪
  20. I was going to go for 30 ungors, 30 raiders and 30 Bestigors with 10 Gors, a Beastlord, 2 Shamens and the Ghorgon in the battalion and I'll have a spare Ghorgon, Shamen and Cygor from the sets. I also have 2 spawn and I was planning on a Chimera to summon with the call points. I don't want to go with a Chaos God and ally to any of those so I was just wondering what else is worth getting.
  21. Just ordered another Start Collecting Box 😂. So once I have the last 30 Ungors, I'm all set for my Desolating Beastherd and then I'll venture out to some other beasts... What should I go for next?

    Hellmaw

Hellmaw had been enraged to a titanic fury by the chanting of his keeper Knarkar as he stalked along the edge of the Azyrite ruins with orders from Molgrur to hunt for isolated enemy units. But stalking wasn’t really the word. With feet the size of boulders shaking the ground, his snorting and bellowing, and blades on his hands that were as long as a Stormcast was tall, scraping along the ruins, he was heard long before he was seen. Knarker liked Hellmaw. He certainly wasn’t a pet and at times was barely even controllable but, not only did he keep him safe but he saw that the more Hellmaw killed under his direction, the more that Morghur would take notice and one day he would be bestowed with the gift. As they left the confines of the ruins that were barely wide enough for the six storey high, 4 armed Ghorgon, they emerged into a clearing before a Wyld Wood copse. Hellmaw immediately turned towards a small unit of 5 Sequitors, emblazoned with the insignia of the Hammers of Sigmar. They were stood in the ready to fight. Hellmaw bellowed but the stench of curdled blood and the ground shaking footsteps had already alerted the Stormcast and they had formed a defensive formation ready for battle, Great Mace’s aloft and a crackle of lightning bounced between their armour. Hellmaw charged forwards, surprising the Sequitors with his speed and crashing into them. Knarkar watched with chaotic glee as his Ghorgon’s butchering blades tore through flesh and armour alike, the screams only feeding the Ghorgon’s rage. The Stormcast put up a fight and with their weapons they tried to defend against the towering Beast, managing to injure him but it was merely a scratch. It was over in seconds. His blade like hands reducing Sigmar’s troops to a mash of meat and metal leaving just one left, injured and dying. Hellmaw tried to grab him with his huge slavering maw, but the Sequitor fought bravely for as long as he could, however Hellmaw was frenzied and baying for the Blood Gorge and with a final bellow he bent down and swallowed the injured Sequitor whole. Knarker smiled as Hellmaw gorged on the blood and the remains of the rest of the obliterated unit, gathering his strength and preparing for whatever else the battle would bring.
  23. @TheArborealWalrus You have enough to run The Desolating Beastherd Battalion which is the one I've chosen to use when we all get to play again. It's a one drop army that gives you extra hits when in the enemies area and then mixed with Gavespawn, you get a pretty mean Beastlord too.
  24. Haha now there is a real world answer! Getting stuff out of my box always causes me a stab or two so I'm going to save myself 30 more and stick with blades. Many thanks.
  25. I'm building a BoC list starting with the Desolating Beastherd Battalion. I've got 10 Ungors and 10 Raiders so I've got 20 of each to get sorted out. The Ungors I built have the blades but now I'm wondering if they should have been spears. With a target of 30 Ungors and 30 Raiders, would spears or blades be better?
