  1. Personally, I’m really happy with the new Slaanesh and Khorne battletomes- personally, I’m ok with what come in the next couple of months. So long as I am able to absolutely destroy 12-13 year olds at my local Warhammer store and FLGS.

I used the recent battletome to demolish a 8 year old who brought a cruel boyz army, using month my Slaanesh and Khorne list. My massive, well-groomed neckbeard lead to me rolling perfectly the entire game; those middle schoolers didn’t stand a freaking chance.

  2. This is probably not the place to post this, a few hours ago my dog was diagnosed with terminal cancer. A month ago he was perfectly healthy, but within less than three weeks his body developed an incredibly aggressive cancer that attacked his nervous system, and this week he will be passing away.

He’s been with my family for only 11 years, but the time he’s spent with us has helped every one of us through some very tough times. To my family, he’s not a dog; he’s the most precious part of the family. But to me, he was my everything; whenever I could come home and see him jump happily onto me, regardless of how Tough life was, always gave me the love I needed.

One of my favorite memories was seeing him steal a citadel paint pot off my painting desk when he was a puppy to chew on. Sometimes, whereas I have been gaming for a while now, I wish I escape into the hobby more and appreciate how much it has brought me over the years as well.

So I think it's nice update and one that shows the designers are on the same page as us in some respects, so this will hopefully be a good sign of things to come.

Though this could be much better with a GHB points decrease too.

What’s make me the most happy about this update is that it (somewhat) works in conjunction with Slaanesh’s faction ability. In other words, if HoS players were already building lists to farm depravity, as you build depravity naturally throughout the game, you’ll automatically gain benefits.

For example, if you’re saving up to summon 30 Daemonettes, along the way you’ll automatically get a bonus to your rally ability and an army-wide +2 movement. The +5 ward save is going to be awesome on all our calvary and Painbringers, and deciding on whether to keep it or summon in Daemons is going to depend on the type of list that has been built.

Power 1 and 2 is pretty great as you spend the points in the end of the moment fase to summon and thay hapen in the hero and the moment fase

It’s going to make Blissbarb Archers a bit easier to keep on the table earlier on (assuming they’re not wiped out immediately); the second ability is going to help calvary units quite a bit.

I have a Glutos-centered list with a unit of 10 Painbringers at center. The +5 Ward save, on top of having a -1 to hit against them from Glutos, and a +1 to save rolls is going to make them almost unkillable without some sort of very dedicated high rend and damage attacks.

The Summer 'tome is almost certainly Sylvaneth since they said they're closer than we might think.

By hoping for a revamp, what I meant was that I hope the new rules for Sylvaneth are decent when they’re released this summer. Sylvaneth have been struggling for a while; they deserve to get a balanced release that gets them into the mainstream meta.

As a Slaanesh player, it really sucks that when our Battletome was released, it fell to the bottom of the bin within a month because of how weak the book was. It’s unlikely we’re going to get a new book soon, and at best we can vaguely hope that both the White Dwarf and General Handbook updates breath value into the faction.

  6. What we know so far:

    - Sylvaneth: receiving a new calvary with a dual unit choice, a new named hero, a new archer unit that can fly, and a new battletome

    - Skaven: a new Eshin assassin/hero, and a battletome

    - Slaves to Darkness: Legionaries, Horns of Hashut, a centaur creature rumored to lead the Legionaries (spotted in background pictures of the leaked photos), a redone Chaos Lord on a Daemonic Mount, a new and named undivided character that’s dedicated to Belakor, a new unit of Ogroids with the option for sword/board or two-handed axes (warscroll leaked), new Daemon Prince (warscroll leaked as well), and a new battletome

    - a new dwarf and vampire model, based on black library models,

    - a new general handbook that will be moving away from monsters and placing an emphasis towards infantry; will include new new battle plans and core battalions, and very likely updated point adjustments.

    What we don’t know:

    - which order battletome, chaos battletome, and two destruction battletomes will be released in Fall via the roadmap

    - the rest of the Slaves to Darkness release (if there is anything left to leak); whether there will be a repackaging of old (ex: chaos warriors), or something completely new (the centaur in the background photos)

    - other theories or models that we’ve yet to receive rumors about that may catch us off guard

    My predictions:

    - the easiest to predict are the two destruction battletomes because of how small the allegiance is. We’ve already received Orruks at the beginning of the edition (they’re likely out), and despite Gloomspite being in desperate need of a revamp, they’ve not received a WD update. My guess is to expect a Gloomspite release this Fall.

    - As for the other destruction release, it’s hard to say. I guess it would be Ogre Mawtribes, and not SoB b/c Mawtribes is older and more on need of an update. But, this edition is all about monsters, and SoB is a monster-based army. Even then, I’m still leaning towards Mawtribes.

    - The chaos battletome is tricky. StD, Nurgle, and Skaven are obviously out of the picture. I really want to say Khorne or Beasts of Chaos because of how outdated and underperforming they are; but I can see there being a Tzeentch update because of how relatively old their book is. Personally, I’m hoping it’s either Khorne or BoC; between the two of them they’re in most need of an update.

    - The order battletome is anyone’s guess. Sylvaneth we’re in most need of an update for Order, and now they’ll be (hopefully) revamped this coming summer

    My takeaway:

    - I feel bad for Skaven. Out of all of the miniatures GW offers, Skaven are easily without contest the most outdated range. Personally, I feel Skaven are the new “Sisters of Battle” at GW; referring to how it took over a decade for GW to update their range. It’s a shame because Skaven are legitimately popular within the fandom, especially when you consider the success of Vermintide and the Total War games. It would make economic sense to update Skaven along with their rising popularity, but as many hobbyists know, GW isn’t know for its logical business decisions.

    - However, Slaves to Darkness are getting a ton of upcoming love. Without the StD leaks, today would have felt lackluster and somewhat bothersome; it’s good to know that there’s a decently large release waiting for us towards the end of the year.

    - And if you’re Sylvaneth you’ll have something to look forward to as well. The new calvary look cool, and the archer-fairies are interesting; Sylvaneth players may have the ability to build a predominantly-ranged army with calvary support.

Make sure to share those Painbringers as they sound awesome!

I plan to :) once I finish these finals I’ll have some time balance working over the summer and painting; I’m taking mh time with Hedonites because of how delicate and detailed the models are.

Nothing surprised me... except the absolute amazing quality of the models!

Hashut help me! I am tempted by 40k! I just can't decide between Chaos Knights, CSM and Biker Dwarf Ladies with cool goggles!!!

Although I feel like a mixed CSM, S2D and Knight army would likely be the only way I could afford and enjoy 40k

I am not too worried though because I feel like tomorrow will bring me back to Age of Sigmar... With some plants and rats!
    🌲🐀

40k has been tempting me as well, but by the rumors of new Kasrkins. If Imperial Guard get an update that brings back one of my favorite units of all time, I’m probably going to be dropping what I’m collecting and begin my journey as a new guardsmen player.

However, I still need to finish painting my Hedonites army; I purchased a special mirror paint for my Painbringer’s shields, and have yet to use it because of school. And, those new Ogroids that were leaked a couple days ago look fantastic….

  10. New theory:

along with the Horns of Hashut being a warcry warband, the Chaos Legionaries will also be a warcry warband.

    Source:

In the leaked StD book, the legionaries are not paired with the marauders or chaos warriors in the unit section of the book; they’re placed in the “warcry” area with the other warcry units, including being directly above the Horns of Hashut warband.

    Have the legionaries been spoiled?

Not yet, but from the rumor mill people are saying they’re somewhere between a chaos warrior and marauder.

Also, from the leaked photos it can be seen they have the option to either have a hand weapon and shield, or a two handed weapon (likely will give higher reach and potentially better rend/damage).

  12. A lot of people are mentioning the disappointment in the new Daemon Prince; whereas I’m still bitter about the HoS book (and I have little faith the May update is going to substantially fix anything), I could see the Daemon Prince playing a balanced utility role instead of a point-and-click beatstick.

The trophy rack option gives all friendly units within range immunity to battleshock. This is huge when considering it’s not limited by keywords, and that battleshock immunity was nerfed when this edition initially was released. This means that allied units will benefit from the immunity, regardless of they are Daemons, mortals, skaven, etc.

For example, you can run the Daemon Prince behind a the new unit of 6-9 Ogroids (who only have bravery 6), and give them all immunity to battleshock; the Daemon Prince can also contribute because of his two inch reach weapon. Or, you can run him behind a big unit of the new Chaos Legionaries or marauders, and give the blob battleshock immunity while attacking from behind their ranks.

Alternatively, you can give him wings and fly 12” towards the enemy back line, or into engagements of your choosing.

I don't see any merger with Malarion - though I can see him ending up a bit like Exodites in 40K - always mentioned but never appearing in model form. It IS strange that we've had armies like Ossiarchs (who are fantastic and need more models please GW) but nothing for the Shadow Aelves who rule most of an entire Realm. That said I'm sure they will come at some point.

They definitely will; AoS released in 2016, and it took 4-5 years to get the fantasy equivalent of high elves. Dark elves are arguably more exotic, and a number of more exotic armies usually take a longer time to release, like Chaos Dwarfs. It might take another year or two, however.

He’s gonna be great for a Christmas conversion; just throw a Santa hat on him and you’re set.

And speaking about rumors, my bet is on Skaven for the summer, along with Sylvaneth. However, Skaven desperately need a range refresh, arguably the most in all of 40k and AoS. So in a way, unless the rumored Skaven release has a lot of new releases, I’m sort of hoping they don’t get updated so that GW can spend some time on getting them the proper attention they need.

  15. They have a very modern sci-fi design, opposed to imperials that are inspired by gothic  influences. Compare the Squat to a Mantic Games miniature; there’s some significant similarities between the armor’s smoothness and “clean” look.

Personally, I think the reason GW designed squats in this direction was to make them distinct from Imperial factions. They want the army to stand on its own, as opposed to getting lost in the sea of grimdark designs.

In regards to Squats I want, really want to believe they are coming and as others have said the leaks so far proven true have them there. It's annoying it was announced today of all days.

I think they’re coming based on the detail they put into the squat at the end of the trailer. The armor, plasma gun, and power fist have very distinctive designs (reminds me of older 40k artwork mixed with modern influences). You can tell the designer/animator was basing it off something.

The zombies looks surprisingly generic. The necromancer is cool, will be a good proxy for the generic necromancer or even a good base for some necromancer kitbashes.

I feel the same way, looks a bit too generic for my tastes

  18. Age of Sigmar, ha, more like…

    - Age of Sweatiness

    - Age of Neckbeards

    - Age of Mortal Wounds

    - Age of Feelbads

    - Age of Getting Body-slammed by “That Guy”

    - Age of “We looked at the survey and took it into consideration”

    - Age of “Get Gud at the game, kid”

    - Age of “I’m gonna do what’s called a pro gamer move”

    - Age of “Nothing personal, kid.”

    - Age of Matt Ward’s Return

    No.

Primarily books are driven by model releases.  Having just had a large model release wave, I would be pretty surprised they re-write a book that is,.. a year old?  Has that ever happened (exclude 40k)?  Now of course that's not always the case.  Seraphon arguably.  I'm not sure if Fireslayers or Deepkin had new models however they had older books.

Even Stormcast are once an edition aren't they?

The preview show this year's short term AoS releases was one Chaos (Maggotkin)?   Where there any other releases for Battletomes in that preview?

With all that's going on in the world (like,.. actual global problems) I don't see AoS Battle tome releases increasing in speed or tackling a book re-write.

I think we would all love to see some problems addressed.  I just think if you love this army and want to play it, may as well do it.  Phonecium was written off entirely and some guy just went 5-1 at LVO with it.  To quote him "play what you love."

Which is why I’ve moved on from the army.

It’s hard to enjoy something that is so poorly done. I have the models, but I’m not going to be purchasing anymore Slaanesh, nor will I be bringing Slaanesh to the tabletop when they’re in such a clearly bad spot; all while DoK get a book released within a year of their older book. I’ve moved into Battletech because it’s cheaper and easy to get into, but I might jump into 40k over the summer depending on how good the new Guard models are.

Models being released alongside a book helps to keep books updated, but that’s not what happened with ours: the Slaanesh book is already outdated because it didn’t include Synessa or Dexcessa. The only model that DoK got was a new foot hero, and if that is sufficient to conclude there’s a new book, I don’t see why having two unique characters would stop us.

I was really hoping for some sort of General Handbook update of sorts to bring us up to par at least with the overpriced points, but that never happened. Instead, we got a bandage fix that makes us “prime hunters,” which essentially is GW’s way of saying that they know of the problem, but this is the best we can do.

If you’re right, then I’m probably not going to stick around and wait another edition for a book or for some wishful General Handbook update.

The player at LVO who went 5-1 was the exception; the vast majority of data suggests that’s within less than a year most HoS armies vastly underperform at events. Which really says something, considering when a new book is released it at minimum comes within the middle of win/loss ratios.

    • Sad 1
  20. So, I’ve been wondering, by chance do you guys think we’re gonna get another book within the year?

The reason I ask is because DoK are getting a new book, and they released at the same time we do. Yet within the Slaanesh book, we don’t have Synessa or Dexcessa, there’s been various point changes, and some warscroll changes as well. It feels as if within a year our book is already outdated.

This is kind of what happened with Indomitus. There was a potato cam photo that had a whole mess of the Ultra Marine and Blood Angel Primaris Marines that were released with that wave (Gladiator, Storm Speeder, Outriders and Eradicators all being things I remember being in it) and they were just completely radio silent on it despite other leaks being revealed at the time. I suspect this is something similar, because it ties into a major release they want to acknowledge it properly.

Adepticon I expect we'll see some of the upcoming Chaos stuff for 40K, Ash Wastes for Necromunda, a new Blood Bowl team, the zombie Underworlds warband, a tease of the summer battle tomes for AoS and Heresy teased or possibly unveiled.

We’re probably also going to see stuff for Kill Team, and the rumored upcoming Guard Codex.

If we do see anything relating to Guardsmen, it will probably be Kasrkins for Kill Team, or  Death Riders.

Since we like speculating on random new armies aos could have.

Idoneth book has a new race mention, called Abholons or something. Basically psychic horrors from the deep sea with nasty tentacles and things (imagining Deep Ones / Mindflayer type things).

They are mentioned on multiple occasions throughout the tome.

Deepkin had a huge war with them and apparently wiped them out. They are totally new to the lore in 3.0 so possibly could be a thing for a new army one day?

Also some stuff about the Deepkin trying to work out how to resurrect the Cythai souls they got. Could be something for 4.0 in 3 to 4 years time or a new kit for the end of 3.0 like how we got Belakor, Kroak, Warsong and Slaanesh named characters at the end of 2.0.

Obviously these are both kinda thin and far off, but thought they'd be of interest to people who don't necessarily read the fluff in every book.

I’ve always wanted to see a deep one’s army that has fish people/Lovecraft-themed units. Or big shark people, like the ones mentioned in the Old World.
