  1. Men at Arms built. That should be all the peasants for now, got a few bodies left to add crew to war machines or bulk out battle pilgrims if I do a unit of those. Not sure what to do next, considering Mounted Knights or Foot Knights.
  2. What about using the big AoS mounted lords as lords on chariot, they might not be able to join units that way, but you get a bigger base to try and fit them onto.
  3. That is actually what I am intending to do. It is a lovely model and I had been thinking of getting one just as a painting project anyway. In terms of size, while he is much smaller than the plastic giant kit he is still big, and should stand out quite clearly. Here you can see him next to some other AoS Slave to Darkness models, easily twice as tall as a Warrior, and (axe/lance aside) taller than the knight or character, and so bulky as well. Also while the kit comes with a little tactical rocks cape, it isn’t required, so I may build up some taller basing for him to stand on, especially if I can make it look similar to the stone he is carrying.
  4. I might get some when I get round to doing my WoC, maybe a bit of mix and matching with the older kit or with some of the other Chaos Humans form AoS (I have a bunch of the Khorne lot fromAoS1). That might help with spacing a little. The Chieftain on horse I was thinking perhaps a mounted sorcerer or some such.. . As for the fiend, maybe as a stand in for a lone dragon oger (or even a Shaggoth? depending on size...)
  5. In terms of players, localy at least I know several people are intrested, but we are all still building our arimes or waiting for stuff to come back into stock or be released. I can see it beeing a while yet before most of us have an army to play regularly with.
  6. I was planning on using my Ogroids from the Christmas box as Chaos Ogres, but this was me wondering...
  7. The Dracolines must be bigger than I thought, but if it works then great. let us know how it goes.
  8. Interesting, Thanks for sharing. Looks like they used the character Aggradon which migth be bigger that the normal ones, not sure, not seen them in person yet.
  9. In case you had not seen, but Dracolines are one of the units being removed come AoS4, they get more modern sculpts later, but for the moment they are out. https://www.warhammer-community.com/2024/04/04/whats-leaving-the-warhammer-age-of-sigmar-range/ I have not done this conversion, but I have converted plenty over the years including the Silver Tower and War Cry Ogroids, and I assume they are of similar dimension. If so then Aggradons are probably to lithe. Karkadrak might be ok. Have you considered Dracoths, they are bigger than Dracolines, and probably similar to Karkadrak. You would have to chaosfy them, but any lightning iconography can probably stay. Also the big chest plat could probably hide some of the connection of the conversion.
  10. Build some Peasant archers this week. The front 10 are skirmishers, and I did some light conversion work to reangle arms/bows and such. Then at the back is a bigger unit. Slight filler in the front rank in the form of some spare of the barricade logs stuck upright with a flag attached and one a second base a drum converted into a barrel full of arrows and a brassier.
  11. While I am still waiting for Forces of Fantasy and the Arcane Journal to come back into stock, and therefore will wait with building of some models until I have read the rules and made an army list, I thought I would get started on some of the more simple elements and get them built in readiness. I am going to start with the Archers and I was wondering if a command group for them is really needed, or could I use those bodies to bolster the Men-at-Arms or use them for things like artillery crew or some such. Edit: Followon question, how many Archers would you consider a good amount?
  12. I have seen the Warshrine be used as a Chariot with Sorcerer
  13. In good company with Carrot Ironfoundersson.
  14. Yea, saw a video a few weeks back of someone doing it with Warriors and Knights, so there will be some trimming and such in my future, should not be too much of a problem from what I have seen. Hopefully....
  15. To an extend booth Wood Elves and Beastman might be a better fit, certainly for certain aspects. Indeed some years ago the first time I contemplated doing this at length I had settled on Wood Elves before budgetary issues pushed the project onto the backburner. The jungle/forest dwellers and the associated fieldcraft, the hunters and tribal aspects all do speak to those two, and certainly are a large part of Kroot identity, but I feel that while they are part of Kroot identity they are not part of the Kroot essence. ie what makes a Kroot force feel like a Kroot force and not just some bird looking beastman or some elves with beaks. To me this boils down to two things, one a more abstract identity, that of Kroot as mercenary, likely to turn up anywhere and fight for someone else. The other is a more visual thing and it is the kroot gun. Visually distinct and easily identifiable as Kroot to anybody who has been in the hobby for a while. They are also the reason why a Kroot into a Warhammer Fantasy setting project might work in my mind. While they might have some Tau tech in 40k to make them better than human lasguns or autoguns they look like they could be black powder weaponry not to far removed from what is already in the setting such as Empire or Dwarf. Now yes for Fantasy specifically they still look a bit more modern then either of those factions. But in the AoS realms for example I feel they fit right in considering things like the flying dwarf boat lot exist from a tech level perspective. And while I am here now in the Old world section and considering doing the Kroot there, I may yet do it as AoS instead, it just comes down to what set of rules can I most closely match up with the units/visuals to make the army feel good once it is on the table. If I turn up at my local store for a game of Fantasy against an opponent who might not know me and I place onto the table a unit of 10 Kroot with Kroot guns and a Krootox with the big Kroot gun and say these are 10 hungunners and a cannon will that be easier for them to grok then if I say these are 10 archers and a bolt thrower (so high elves as opposed to wood elves I guess)? I don’t know, but I guess that the former is more likely than the latter. Now if I place 10 Kroot that are kroot bodies, but have say spear or handweapon and shields and say these are State Troopers/Glade Guard/Gors then I suspect the opponent is just as likely to accept one as the others and in that regards that works. So I could build an entire Beastman(or woodelves) army with kroot bodies, and it would look good (I hope) and be easy enough for the opponent to get what each unit is, but would it be a Kroot army in fantasy, or a fantasy army that is Krootish? I think Empire gives me a good foundation, with lots of flexibility in units to try and make it work. Assuming I actually do this and not sit on it for another decade. There is in fact a Fantasy army that I think would be an even closer fit of models to rules (or what I imagine the rules to be), and that is the Kislev as shown in Total War: Warhammer. They have blackpowder guns that double up as Axses (so basically a archetypal Kroot gun). Bear Cavalry would be Krootox rampagers, and the warsleeds would be normal krootox and such. However until they get rules I think Empire is the closest I am going to get. Edit: This is not a primary reason, but I think a Krootified Steam Tank would look cool.
