  1. Hi guys, Got myself the Catacombs box for christmas. I really liked that you could play both on the "over ground" and "underground" sides of the map. I started by painting up all the over ground terrain because I felt like that was a nicer starting point, having never played Warcry before (but played quite a lot of AoS). The difficulty I found when I was actually trying to set up a game is that the way you set up a game (Choosing deployment "card", victory card and twist card) didn't work so well. In the Catacombs rule book there are ways to set up a game only for a game "underground", even though there are "cards" for setting up the over ground terrain. But looking at all the deployment cards for example; none of them are usable in the over ground terrain. Am I missing something here, or have GW only included ways to actually play Catacombs underground, even though they included the over ground terrain? I can't even understand if I can buy Deploymemt/Twist/Victory cards seperately that actually work with this terrain. I find it a bit frustating, I thought Warcry was ment to be super easy to start up a game in! Do you guys have any advice? Thanks!
  2. I think 12 is maximum size for the unit? I can at least get 12 in the warscroll builder. what do u mean with the gryph hours? That u can block board space?
  3. If im not mistaking the Stormkeep patrol batallion (Lord veritant, 2 units of redeemer/justicar units, 1 unit dogs) can include Vanguard raptors as they have the justicar keyword. Has anyone experimented with listbuilding involving say a unit of 12 vanguard raptors in anvils of the heldenhammer, and maybe a liberator screen, deploying on an objective 24” from your enemy shooting in the hero phase, then translocate (prayer from veritant) to be 30” away in the shooting phase. So you shoot twice turn 1 for just 1 cp. Maybe throw in a azyros that u teleport up with a vexillor if u really want that rerolling 1s. Just thinking out loud and wondering if anyone have given this some thought? 24” shots turn 1 only spending 1 cp, choosing your target, and if u kill it 2/3 chance to Relocate to another high priority target if u need to.
  4. Thanks guys, it felt right to roll for each But i gotta say its weird when a lot of scrolls explicetly states ”roll seperately for each” and This One doesnt.
  5. I’ve always played the Celestant Prime’s comet spectre to mean I pick a point on the battlefield and roll a die, and if the result is say a 3, I measure whatever units are within 3” and then I roll 1 die PER UNIT, to determine how many mortal wounds each unit takes. Then I played a game last weekend, where my opponent (who is from what I know very experianced) told me that this is incorrect: according to her, I can pick a point and then I just roll 1 die for the entire area, and whatever the result is is the amount of mortals wounds suffered by each unit. This is obviously better for the Prime, since I could use the magical dice ability to change that to a 6 and deal 3 mw:s in whatever area. Then a guy asked in a facebook group about this and I told him how I was taught it was supposed to be played. But in that thread there really were two camps: the ones who said you roll seperately for each unit, and the ones who said you only roll once. Seeing as it was about a 50/50 split, I just couldn’t figure out what was correct. I can’t find a faq on the subject. So: How do you guys play it? The warscroll states: ”In your shooting phase, you can pick a point on the battlefield within 24” of this model that is visible to them. Each unit within D6” of that point suffers D3 mortal wounds”. My gut tells me I have to roll seperately, but the warscroll isn’t exactly clear.
  6. Loving the looks of the eternal guard and wildwood rangers, the eternal guard seem a bit too defensive though, how are they performing for you? I guess you could charge them in and as long as they don’t just straight up die, and don’t pile on next turn, they will be very hard to kill with their 3+ save.
  7. Very true, haha. There is a lot of things ”wrong” with stormcast, bodies sure is one of the issues. Damage is decent though. But it’s rare to have more than 5 models on an objective, which just means you never control anything else you pretty much table your opponent. This is one the reasons I’m drawn to CoS, because I can use some of my very fun models (Gotrek, Stardrake, Celestant Prime) in lists that are actually powerful. The prime is pretty hard to play, but is very rewarding when you pull something nice off. Probably super good in Hammerhal, being able to charge in your Demigryphs, tying up something, then charging with the Prime from behind so that not a lot of models can pile in to him (making sure the demigryphs are the closest model for most of the unit), doubble hitting, and always remembering that he gives a 12” aura of -2 bravery the turn he comes down - and he is the master of sniping enemy heroes, so whatever support hero is there to make sure a unit doesn’t need to check for battlechock is easily wiped off the board. Loving the idea. If I were to start a CoS army with 3 units of demigryphs, 1 freeguild general on griffon, and then adding the celestant prime, I’d have around 700p left. Would probably want 1-2 wizards (Incantor?), and a few MSU for banners. Already have 1 unit of 10 freeguild guard and 1 unit of 10 freeguild handgunners from old fantasy, so probably wanna try those. What else would you add?
  8. Nice, gonna have to look into them as an option. Need to find battleline that I can field in different cities preferably, so i dont go all in on one Theme and then realize i want to play in a different city. just to clarify though, i want to run my sce in cities and not the other way around. So for example i might wanna try celestant prime/stardrake in Hammerhal. Prime fighting twice is nasty. Problem is i dont know how useful it really is, seeing as he Will die if he doesnt kill what he’s in combat with. This is very true, although sce is so tight for points to make any kind of list work that it is really hard to find the points to ally in something just for bodies.
  9. this is the best response to anything anyone has ever given anyone. Thanks a lot! Yeah the idea is not to be super strict about it, but it is kind of nice to have some sort of backround to the army. I based my stormcast with just regular battleground dirt from armypainter since I'm a beginner and after a year I obviously thinks it's boring to look at but hey, I'm never gonna rebase everything so it is what it is. The icy theme just seems super easy to make look good. Massive thanks for the ideas! Great to know I could use an icy theme and still get away with it being somewhat logical in all cities. Maybe the cities that need to be from Aqshy is a bit tricky to justify though, heh.
  10. what makes them so great? Being a stormcast player where everything is on 40mm bases, 1" range always means I can only fight in 1 rank. Can the greatsword fight in 3 ranks? Do you back them up with some hero or to they run solo?
  11. Love the great sword models aswell. I like all things freeguild really. It started when I listened to a podcast that mentioned something along the lines of "the stardrake is better in CoS than in Stormcast", and being the proud owner of a (finally) painted stardrake, that got me thinking, so I dug into CoS rules. I really like the Living City and Hammerhal, and also Hallowheart but to a lesser extent, mostly because I really dislike the idea of spending 100+ euros on endless spells when I only want 2-3 of them. So I've been thinking about different Living City/Hammerhal lists that include Stormcast models (and/or Gotrek), to get started with CoS. Ideas have been 4x concussors in Living city, or Stardrake/Celestant Prime in Hammerhal. Really like the Freeguild on Griffon model aswell. One idea have been to get the Griffon + demigryph batallion. My main issue with going down that route is that it's quite one dimensional, and that the demigryphs aren't very useful in other cities. What I'd really like is to be able to pick up a few heroes, and a few battleline boxes, and ally in my Stormcast and get playing with CoS, and then add units over time. But I'm having a hard time finding lists that do this. And especially given how many battleline options there are, I'd prefer to get some that I can use in different cities.
  12. Hi guys, Been doing this hobby for a little over a year and started with Stormcast. Now Im considering starting a new project which I would like to be a bit more of a painting project. Not in the meaning of being painted super nicely, but to have a theme and an idea from the get-go. I have really fallen in love with painting icy stuff, and want to do a ice/snow/winter themed army. I have been considering getting Cities of Sigmar. My question is for you people who might have a better idea of the lore, is if it is any base in lore to have a winter themed Cities of Sigmar list? Like for example is there a part of Ghyran that is winter, of does Ghyran have seasons?
  13. Hi! Thinking about getting a CoS army, and having quite a few Stormcast models, it just seems to fit so nicely. My main issue is the amount of battleline options i CoS. I just can't figure out where to begin with them. Really liking the Freeguild stuff, and the handgunners seem really good. But to the question: what is your favorite battleline in CoS and why?
  14. Thanks, yeah I figured I'd probably go with Living City and run 4 concussors + stardrake. Celestant on Stardrake's command abilility is to reroll wound roll on the dracoth, and with +1 to hit (hurricanum) and then rerolling the wounds where 6's do d6 damage, they are probably quite killy. Also gives me a reason to buy those models. Struggeling for battle line options though. Such a huge range to choose from. And honestly, the battleline options are incredibly expensive (money wise), I mean 10x phoenix for about 35 euro and you need at least 30.. jesus.
  15. Played Kroakcast for the first time last weekend. List was: Lord celestant on stardrake, ignore -1 rend artifact, Staunch defender Celestant Prime Lord Kroak Lord Arcanum on gryph Lord Castellant 5x judicators 5x lib 5x lib 5x sequitors Everblaze comet Choose the 5 x sequitors over a Knight Incantor since I knew I was playing Ogor Mawtribes and needed something to grab objective or to guard Kroak if we rolled a battleplan where battleline hold better. Still a massive pain to try and hold objectives with this list, and Ogors counting as 2 models or 10 for the stonehorns is just.. yeah. I ended up tabling him T4 after raining mortals all over the place, him making a few mistakes with his positioning with gave me the chance to run my stardrake into 8x ironguts AND 12x gluttons I think it was, basically just tanking them while dealing mortals wounds. I only lost 5x liberators, the Arcanum and the gryph hound (sad) but still only won 18-16, since he ran and took all 3 objectives t1, he took the first turn, and I basically just had to kill everything to win. My main take away is that there is a real strategy with this list to utilize Celestant Prime’s -2 bravery when he comes down. If you roll well in your hero phase and manage to snipe a support hero while at the same time dealing a good amount of wounds to a big battleline unit, you could drop the Prime turn 1 and cast his comet for guaranteed 3 mortals, and suddenly your opponent doesn’t have a hero to command point ignore battleshock. You could have easily dealt 10 MW to a unit with Kroaks comet, the Prime comet, rain of stars, and everblaze comet. If you run judicators, that can also pick off a few. Giving a unit -2 bravery at this stage could be huge. Just something to keep in mind if you’re running your beloved angel! This obviously also works later in the game aswell, say you focus on getting of a support hero in your first turn and then start working on a big unit of something preferably with low bravery, could be a lot of fun. Could also win you an objective if you play it smart, ride the winds to the edge of an objective and then pray they run away in battleshock hehe.
  16. Hi guys, Stormcast player here who are looking at perhaps starting a CoS army because well, CoS is just better and have more fun rules! Been thinking about where to start and living city just seems so nice. I’ve been looking for a reason to buy Dracothian Guard (Fulminators/Concussors etc), since I have a Lord Celestant on Stardrake which pairs really nicely if you manage to get them into combat with what you want (which is harder in Stormcast than Living city). So I wanna theorycraft a list with 4 concussors and a stardrake. I’m especially having issues with deciding on what kind of battleline to take in CoS since you have sooo many options. So far all I’ve gathered is that a Hurricanum w a battlemage is more or less a must. I’d love a General on Griffon, but I guess it won’t really fit. What are my best options to fill out a list that focuses around 4 concussors + Lord celestant on stardrake (grand total of 940 p for these 2 units)? One issue im seeing is the potential for running out of CPs since I’d need 1 for strike and melt away and 1 for the stardrakes command ability to reroll wound rolls on the dracoths.
  17. Thanks a lot. Any idea where i can find a list that includes dracothian guard and a stardrake perhaps (for the command ability to reroll wound rolls on mounts for the sweet D6 damage on 6s)? Maybe looking through the living city Thread?
  18. Hi! I’m a stormcast player with half an eye on planning a new army. And obviously since Stormcast only have about 50 warscrolls I though I should consider CoS for some more options.. 😁 What I’m really looking at is getting a more competative army. Stormcast has a lot of diversity and is a lot of fun I think but I tend to never hold objectives (could be because I wanna run Stardrake + Celestant Prime + Gotrek but who knows). I’ve heard and read that CoS is quite strong. I was wondering if there are any decent/good builds that utilize the Stormcast ”ally” possibilty? I personally feel like Stormcasts biggest downside is the unbelievably weak battleline options, which I’ve understood CoS don’t have the same problem with. I own a Lord Celestant on Stardrake, Celestant Prime, Ballistas and Lord Ordinator, Incantors, and lots of other stuff obviously but these are some of the models I think have good rules on their own but just lack a good army around them. Oh, and I have Gotrek. Seen a few builds with Knight Azyros for that sweet rerolling 1s to hit, I dont own him but need a reason to buy him sooo.. So I have a few questions for you CoS players. I have tried to research this myself, but this army is seriously daunting to get into, with all the cities and special rules in this and that city and this and that unit, it makes Stormcast look super easy to listbuild with. 1. Is anyone playing a Stormcast heavy CoS list? Is there a competative list that includes Lord Celestant on Stardrake and/or Celestant Prime (my favorite models, hence the question) 2. What are considered some of the strongest options in the CoS battletome? I can read the warscrolls and some things, like Phoenix guard, stand out, but it’s really hard to figure out the powerful combos. And a problem I had when I got into Stormcast was that I just bought a bunch of stuff and like 60-70% of it will never see play, unless they become good later, because they’re just trash, which is my main concern with getting into another army with a massive amount of warscrolls. Side questions: I heard from an opponent who has a CoS list that she runs 6 decimators and that she somehow gets +1 to hit - on everything - in a CoS build. This sounds really powerful as it effects their shooting attack aswell. What city/hero/whatever is it that makes this possible? What I’m looking for really is a way to make the transition to another army a bit less expensive 😁 If I could use some of the models I love from the SCE + Gotrek range that would be fun. Thanks guys!
  19. I like this, don’t have all the models though. I am playing OBR this weekend, and I know he’s bringing Katakros. Toying around with the idea of painting up Gotrek for it since honestly how else am I going to stand a chance against morteks and Katakros. I have played him plenty of times and the mortek just chew through Sequitors, there is just no point in bringning them against a battle line that is just superior in every way. So Thinking about something like this: Gotrek Prime Lord Ordinator Lord Castellant (General) 3 x 5 liberators 3 x ballistas(only have 3) 10 x evocators (unfortunately only have the starter box ones so no grand staves. Maybe take them as 2 units of 5 for more unbind + double the chance to get empower of on atleast one of them. 1 unit of 10 is obviously better with castellant though). This adds up to exactly 2000 p. Would probably play them as Hammers of Sigmar. The idea is that ballistas and prime can snipe his Arkhan and Harvester, that he always brings. Then Gotrek will go for whatever is in front of him, knowing he wouldn’t want Katakros in combat with Gotrek I use that threat to ”screen” Katakros from actually fighting. Liberators to screen the ballistas as best they can, or to slow down horses that might tie up Gotrek. My main alternative, with the models I actually have, is to use some sort of Lord Arcanum + Sequitors + Castellant and Evocators, but I’ve tried this a bunch of times and they just fall flat against the mortek guard. I really need to be able to take down the Harvester (who doesn’t benefit from Look out sir which is great), and preferably Arkhan aswell. The ballistas could potentially do this, and then die to an army of morteks. But with some smart positioning they might just get the job done and hopefully be very annoying (like dropping in behind him, having him turn his Mortek guard around wasting precious time on objectives).
  20. So basically everyone in my local game store plays a meta army, meaning I’ve never won a game. So I bought Gotrek because atleast he can kill something. Now I knoooow, he’s not the Messiah. But I love the model and the idea of this 32mm base guy just scaring people. my long term plan is play him with a stardrake and the prime because it’s super cool to have a list with LCoSD,Gotrek, incantor, prime, castellant and some libs (+comet). Now, i havnt painted my stardrake yet and that’s gonna take a while sooo, i was wondering how you guys use Gotrek in SCE? is there a list where i can use him and the prime and some ballistan? All i know is a need to buy a cp to get him to run 6” turn1 or im probably screwed any tips on a Gotrek list, or ideas on how to get the most out of him in SCE? Not looking to win tournaments so give me your fun ideas aswell as ”good” ones 😎
  21. Yeah okay I see. Weird rules question that is probably quite obvious: I am quite new to the game, played like 10 games only. Say I cast a spell that requires the target unit to be wholly within 12” (empower for example). I used to measure it like this: If the entire unit of say sequitors that I want to target with the spell, is wholly within any part of any evocators base (say I have a 5man unit), then I can cast the spell. What I mean is: I did not measure the entire base of the caster when measuring whether the sequitors are wholly within 12” of the evocators or not: i just measured from any part of 1 evocator models base. Now my last opponent (first time playing him) told me that I have to measure the entire base of the caster aswell, for something to be wholly within. This made me confused, as I though that would mean that a LCoSD with Staunch have to fit the entire massive base inside of wholly within 9” for staunch to work. I just figured that then it can almost never work, as how am I supposed to fit the entire base of the stardrake + say 5 liberators on a 9” footprint. Surely my opponent were wrong/I misunderstood him? This is one of the reasons I figured staunch wasn’t as good as I though.
  22. Ive been thinking if there is a case to be made for Shielded by faith over Staunch defender? Shielded by faith gives the LCoSD a 5+ ignoring mortals wounds. Given how survivable the drake will be if it is ignoring -1 rend, 2+ save (with castellant) and healing on at 6+, actually needing to roll double 1’s or face -2 rend to ever take any damage, it might be worth having that 1/3 chance of saving a mortal wound?
  23. Will probably try out the 3x ballista, ordinator and incantor first, then Gotrek (but this will probably require a more serious game as I dont think it’s very nice to bring a Gotrek to a knife fight) and then maybe get me some fulminators, quite an investment those guys since the box is crazy expensive for two models. I am afraid that with literally zero movement support for Gotrek he won’t be choosing his targets very much 😅 But I really like the idea of having the Stardrake as an anti-horde unit, and Gotrek as the anti elite/heroes unit. Maybe just have Gotrek walk alongside the Stardrake, forcing the opponent to make a hard decision on how to deal with them. Send in 40 skinks? Stardrake will ask ”why are you hitting yourself” (before it dies to the MW:s since no more MW protection after realm artefacts are gone) Send in a big unit, Archaeon?, to slay my dragon? Gotrek says hi. Now, will this win me many games? Doubt it, i’ve also played around 10 games in total so I suck buuuut then again big models = big fun. Definately gonna name my LCoSD ”Lord why are you hitting yourself on Felix”
  24. So with the upcoming point changes I’ve been thinking about how to fill out my list. Spoiler: I havn’t even painted my stardrake, so I’ve never played with him. But since when has that stopped anyone from buying more models to fill a future need? 🤓 Main parts of my list: LCoSD (500p) Celestant-Prime (300) Lord castellant (120) Incantor (120) Battleline 3 x 5 libs (270) Endless Comet (100) Total: 1410 p I was planning on trying the ballista route (3 x ballistas + ordinator). But with the point changes, I have 590 points left (90 more than before the changes). This can make a bit of a difference I think. I would love your opinions on these ideas to fill out the list(and please add your own if you have a better one 😃). Idea 1: 4 x ballistas + ordinator (=580 p) Idea 2: 4 x fulminators + lord heraldor/lord relictor + extra command point/3x aetherwings (=590/580) Idea 3: 3 x ballistas + ordinator + extra incantor (590) Idea 4: GOTREK + command point so he can RUN 6” (570, are we gonna hold any objectives anyway?) Idea 5: 10 x evocators on foot + lord relictor + extra command point (570) I understand that it probably depends on opponent etc. Personally I love the idea of 2 incantors, being able to use both azyrite halo and the comet, potential for comet spam, double auto dispel (looking at you Hand of dust). The 3 ballistas supported by an ordinator could be nice to hold an objective, screened by some liberators perhaps. Then again I love the idea of adding Gotrek and having a list that is 15 liberators and 5 heroes, with a grand total of 20 models 😛 Just imagine the look on your opponents face when he has to choose between engaging the Stardrake or Gotrek. Any opinions on what would be the ”best”? Or do you guys have any other fun ideas? 😁
  25. You can build a Lord Arcanum on dracoline from the evocators on dracolines, but you have to field them in units of 3 (or 6, 9 etc), so if you do build one from the 6 you get in the battleforce box you will only have 5 evocators left, and hence not enough to run 2x 3 of 1x6. So you should definately try to find the funds for a Asteria Soulbright. Another way is to find a Lord Arcanum on Gryph charger on Ebay, less synergy with the dracolines but better in other ways. Sounds like you should go down the Sacrosanct chamber route then. Sequitors are very tanky if partnered with a Lord Castellant. Even more so if you run Hammers of Sigmar as your stormhost and keep your general close to them. Which you probably won't wanna do if you run evocators on cats with a LA on dracoline. Here is a possible way of building your army from the battleforce box, with 1000p which is a good starting point. 1000p list Heroes Lord arcanum on dracoline (220p) Battleline 5x sequitors (130) 5x sequitors (130) Other units 6x evocators on dracolines (520 p) Total: 1000 p Make sure you warn your opponent though, at a 1000p this list is quite nasty 😋 Hammers of Sigmar are a very nice stormhost to start of with, and you will get a lot of use of the 9 inch "Negate wound on a 6" since you will be keeping your general (lord arcanum) close to your evocators on cats. From here you can go any number of routes. One good and cheap hero to get is a Knight Incantor (you can get one for 6 euros with a little starting book on how to paint stuff, https://www.games-workshop.com/en-DK/Getting-Started-With-Age-Of-Sigmar-2018-eng). After the Incantor you could get a Lord Castellant and either a box of evocators on foot (this would be very evocator heavy) or more sequitors. But there is any number of ways you can go. You could add a few ballistas and a Lord Ordinator for some "drop from the heaven and snipe your heroes" action, you could go for more sequitors and just be super tanky, using them as a shield before you charge in with your evocators on cats (that are better on the charge). There is a list called "Gavbomb" which uses Gavriel Surehearts command ability to get a guaranteed charge, so you deploy in the heavens (SCE allegiance ability called "Scions of the storm"), drop down, and charge whatever you want with something strong (6x evocators on cats for example), killing an important hero or unit before your opponent could even react. There are a lot of ways to play stormcast, but I think the battleforce box + lord arcanum on dracoline is a good start and will give you a feel for the army and maybe what you want to do next. To try out a bit more magic, remove 3x evocators and add a Knight incantor and spend the other difference (120p) on whatever you want. Lord Castellant for example. And it doesn't have to be super expensive (considering that there really is no "cheap" way of playing AoS haha).
