  1. That’s a fair point- most narrative players use a points or power level too - I know I do a lot of the time . Point taken! I suspect people will probably use the current points as a ballpark, and then there’s scope for a few tweaks here and there as a community led thing- it happened before after all, no reason not to happen again.
  2. Yes. You won’t be able to use Brets or Tomb Kings at GW events, possibly GW shops, or Matched Play tournaments. That’s been made completely clear. But Iyou can use them pretty much everywhere else you can possibly think of! I’ll even bet that the community comes up with a way of translating the old spell lore and artefact list from the old Army Books into a Battletome format- I’ll certainly have a go for Brets. Can I just ask though, is there not even a single army that has been released or had a Battletome within the last four years that you could face collecting and using for matched play instead? I’m a proud Bretonnian player, and I will never sell them and will try to get them out of the box a few times a year once the ToL rules are out. But I wouldn’t dream of trying to take them to a GW heat or 3rd party matched play event, because I’ve got a more up to date (and arguably more fun) army for that.
  3. Gutted to say I won’t be able to make it, falls on the little’uns 1st Birthday weekend!
  4. In, as ever. Even if I manage nothing else this year I’m coming to this!
  5. 3 weeks! Holy Jeebus I need to get a move on. Just checked, but nothing in my inbox or my spam folders? Email is jonathanrpyke@gmail.com
  6. Ha - where did you hear that? Sounds like the niche we've been waiting for...
  7. The bar is raised! This is a great idea, and it's looking really nicely executed as well!
  8. I'm not sure this can compete competitively, although without a doubt it's hugely manouverable and a lot of fun in friendly games. I've been using Eldritch Council and Swifthawk elements with stormcast for a while and it's a lot of fun but a very long way from top tier - you dance around the enemy but you don't wear them down either. And anything ranged will take you out quickly. You've no real access to multiple damage or healing, and the swordmasters have the best save at 4+. Oddly, for a ranged evasion faction the command abilities seem to be built around exactly what you don't want to be doing which is getting you into combat. I'm a long, long way from being a good player and I'd love to see a top tier player have a proper go with them - I'd love to be wrong! I just don't think it punches hard enough.
  9. Looks like we're going to be playing some of this in the next few weeks at Oxford Gaming Club (mondays in Summertown). Anyone who wants to come down is more than welcome, we've got a growing group of AoS gamers and a dedicated Whatsapp chat - DM me at @JontyGoesGaming if you want to be added! I'm thinking that, at least to start with, we'll play on 4x4 boards- but has anyone tried both 4x4 and 6x4 and have any tips at all? My main thought is being able to cram the scenery in a bit closer to give it that proper skirmish feel!

These are fantastic! Love the idea of doing a scourge privateers army. Gorgeous conversions
  11. Had an evening to myself and thought I'd play a bit of solohammer, as a break from just painting recently. I didn't have time enough to have a go at the first End Times scenario so I thought I'd wind the clock back and just play out an idea based on a previous campaign I ran a few years back, set in an area of the Grey Mountains bordering Nuln to the north and Parravon/Athel Loren to the south, called Hag Pass. After defeating a previous vampiric incursion in the Pass -an uneasy peace has held for a year. But slowly a number of the watchtowers on the upper slopes of the Bretonnian border hve fallen silent. A mounted patrol drawn from members of the Dukes household is dispatched to investigate, only to discover undead forces have made the watchtower their own. While Sir Astreuys Skylance swiftly put the foul beasts to the sword, they were not quick enough to catch the vampiric fiend that led them, one that Parravon thought defeated...
  12. Nice! What battleplans are you thinking of? Assume you're using the Time of War Jotenburg Vortex rules?
  13. First things first - I love Age of Sigmar. I love its batshit crazy style and the evolution of new stories and new opportunities, as well as the new takes on the races of the world-that-was. Most of all, I absolutely love the rules, and the massive wealth of narrative scenarios. Since I started, about two-three months after AoS dropped, I've not played a single 'line 'em up and push it forward' pitched battle. Instead, we've had breakthroughs, battles fought over shifting magical ice, rescue missions, a LOT of awesome rituals, monster hunts; the works. I'm even going to my first solo gaming event in November, something I'd never done in all the time I'd played 8th. While I'm fully immersed in the lore and style of Age of Sigmar, I've still got a real fondness for the Old World, and the old background, and for quite a while, I've wanted to actually get a bit of use out of those End Times books I bought, especially as I've actually got quite a few of the armies featured - especially from the Nagash book, and a lot of old 8th style scenery left over. So, inspired by Darth Alec's frankly amazing work here I thought, hey, why not let's give it a go. Most of these, to begin with will probably be solo games. That's not because I'm an unsociable ******. More that, if I have the house to myself but noone's free for a game it's a fun excuse for getting stuff out of storage and plonking it on the table. But also because I have a feeling it's actually a really good way to learn your warscrolls to make actual games against real people as good as possible. By the time (if) I get as far as Glottkin though I happen to know someone with a lot of Nurgle, which I don't have, and which might come in useful... So here's what this 'semi' regular blog is going to cover. My aim is to... Play as many games from as many of the End Times books as possible, using some of the excellent resources people have made, and Use it as an excuse to finish off some 8th style armies and terrain projects Feel much more confident that I know the rules for the stuff I have in my collection, especially my Death faction which I'm using at Realms at War in November. Take some photos, document it, and feel like I've got my money's worth from some of the End Times books! Mad? Yes. Ambitious? Well sort of. At the worst it'll just be a nice painting log for some 8th style stuff! Should be fun though. So first stop, La Maisontaal Abbey, a chance to rock out the Bretonnians and Vampire Counts..
  14. Looking awesome! Will also be bringing a Death army - mainly themed around Nighthaunt. Was thinking of something similar for my Legendary model, it's a really nice idea. Looking forward to seeing it on the weekend!
