  1. Quick question guys, I have over 2800pts of nighthaunt, I have pretty much everything in 20s or 40s, Black Coach, all heroes, etc. but I don't have Harridans, nor Hexwraiths

I'd like to expand my collection but I would choose only one of those. Which one is the most useful to complement everything else I alrdy have?

Who is your favourite general for arcane sacrifice?

Ogroid can stab himself and heal from his spell so a self contained user.

Magister to get those long range chaos spawn.

Would love it on the ghaunt summoner but he is just a demon now.

Ogrois a really solid pick. Just because you don't need an additional unit and he can heal himself.

Two quick questions I am hoping to get help on or at least pointed in the right direction:

    1. If I take a unit of Chosen from the new StD book, do the Mark of Tzeentch rules from the StD book apply to them in DoT?

    2. If I take a unit that has on its warscroll a rule that allows it to roll on the Eye of Chaos table before the game, do I get the roll?

I would go ahead and say NO to both questions. My understanding of the rules is that since they are taken as coalition units, they are now in a Disciples of Tzeentch army and not a Slaves to Darkness army, hence, they lose the allegiance abilities/Battle Traits from S2D but gain "synergy" with Tzeentch, thanks to the keywords.

They are still not considered pure DoT units but they float in-between, playing on the keywords lingo.

You may need to manually update your app from your app store/play store. I had too.

Looking at the warscroll they are honestly an interesting choice for battleline filler. 4+ ethereal save and they rez 1 model each combat phase. Base attack profile isn't terrible either with 2A 4+/3+/-1/1 damage. They also have some token shooting.

If you want something stronger than acolytes, I can see people choosing these guys over tzaangors as objective campers. Models are cool too.

Nice, yeah and I think they are 10 models, so not a bad footprint.

Jade obelisk warband is in the app. They are battleline for DoT which is nice. 4+ ethereal saves but on down side they do seem to be a bit too expensive for what they bring. Their damage is underwhelming and survivability wise a bit too costly. Still interesting screening option nevertheless.

I don't see it in my app. Have any screenshot?

  6. Sounds fun! I agree about the shutting down. I mean magic is our only thing. That being said, I play Kairos and recently I've played Seraphon twice (Kroak and Slaan) and Nagash last night, and it fueled my engine even more. Kroak gets a lower buff if you start the turn, so your T1 phase is almost guaranteed. I just rolled super hot against Nagash, with always a 5 or 6 on my dice and it was super cool to still get my spells through. I think a LoC is necessary for that though. Anything else will get shut down.

The only army that made me want to stop playing, literally, was NH with banshees. These girls only need to beat the casting value and they get to unbind unlimited spells. It felt so crippling against Tzeentch. I couldn't get any spell off. I mean I could've cast only buffs or spells that don't target anything but then I do 0 damage, as our damage comes from spells. I disliked my experience against those.

You are absolutely correct, no doubt. But if I take another hero it means I have to take less enlightened! And the meme must be maintained at all costs!

I think subbing in a Tzaangor Shaman/Magister + Tome of eyes or maybe a curseling (if I can get one in time) will do the trick.

Demonspark is the best summoning value but since only demons can take it, Cult Demagogue seems like it could generate some decent fate points if I burn destiny dice to guarantee doubles. (Or fish for them with tome rerolls)

Don't forget that Demagogue has been FAQ'ed, it is now only the first spell. I dunno if people still feel it is da bomb or if it lost too much value.

Dang. Great catch. I have been using host arcanum for all my practice games and only switched to Guild for the new draft. Completely missed that keyword in the sub faction.  Guess I need another hero option! Thanks!

I feel like having only 1 hero makes this list super dangerous to play. If your goal is to summon a LoC asap, I'd strongly consider adding another 2 cast wizard yeah.

@RocketPropelledGrenade smth I could see is having cav from StD in tzeentch as a fast hitting unit? You take Knights. A Chaos Sorcerer on foot to buff them and a Chaos Lord on Daemonic Mount to give them Strike first. That is something I could see myself playing around with that. Would be a reasonable alternative to using Enlgihtened on Disc. They would be a fast unit that does not explode.

I would love to use a Tzeentch Daemon Prince but as long as he does not get his full heroic action I dont know about that. (Edit: In addition to the aesthetics of a daemon prince I would like to try out his battleshock immunity on large tzaangor blobs)

I just do not see myself using Chaos Warriors. Maybe someday but right now if I want a slow tanky unit sitting on an objective? Pink Horrors. 30 points more but they fill a battleline slot.

Wouldn't that Chaos fast block you're talking about close to Krondspine? He brings so much to the army and even increases magic supremacy a little. I gotta say, besides all the trash talk about it, it's still a unit i find thematic for Tzeentch. This faction that worships magic that summoned this entity to fight for them. I really like it.

proper FAQ is up, mostly just fixing things people were edge-shooting about.
Cult Demagogue was nerfed, it now only applies to the first spell cast.
Kairics can mix & match weapon options again (probably because the box didn't have enough for 20 with dual blades...)
    Heralds are no longer monsters.

I'm a bit sad they didn't take the opportunity to touch up cult of the transient form and tzaangor greatblades, I put a question in about both in the FAQ.
Cult remained unchanged and was/is awful.
Greatblades being worse than dual weapons just feels like a trap when building the minis. They don't need to be better but having them be worse is questionable.

I for one am super glad that the automatic castings are still generating FP. It made 0 sense to not generate any because we not doing a proper "casting roll" per say.

The beast does not have a 50% chance to throw d6 mortals. It has a 1/3 chance to theow d6 and 1/6 to throw d3. This would average out to 1.5 mortal wounds per turn if I am not mistaking. Which yes. Tzaangors would need 3 wizards close by to do that on average.

To your lack of tzaangor damage. Do you play double blades? Shields are not the way to go. The sheer amount of attacks should leave a mark in most things even without rend. At least if you have a full unit of 10 of those attacking (33 blades mutants and leader have on additional, 21 beaka on the charge leader has one additional).

If your tzaangors do not fight first they will probably get beaten up. They must be the ones charging. If they are widdeld down on range before getting into melee yeah they will not perform. They must play more aggressive if thats your problem. Even if they just kill screens its better then killing nothing while being shot down. If the full unit attacks on the charge with just all out attack (which you should have the command points for) they still put almost 5 wounds into a 2+ safe unit. That is without any rend.

I have not yet played tzaangors myself because I barely come around to converting lately but if you have a specific situation that you are underwhelmed by Tzaangors in please share your experience.

Thanks for taking the time. Regarding the beast, I was under the impression that 2D6 thrown is about 50% chance to do at least D6 mortal, since they do it on 5s and 6s. I'm probably wrong. I haven't done the math exactly.

For Tzaangors I do am using double blades, I watched the talk with Daniil on WHW and it was very enlightening. I do try to always make them charge too. And play agressively. I guess my problem comes mainly from the fact I've been playing Seraphon too much lately with double/triple bastiladon and when I threw them in, they didn't do squat. I'll wait to play more games against more factions to get a better idea.

I beg your pardon? How do you revive tzaangors? I would like to know that piece of tech because I do not see it in the list you presented to us Disciples.

Not sold on it. He is less wounds then a unit of Tzaangors who also throw the ocasional mortal wound out there but has substantially less punch in melee and fill a generic battleline requirement. And he is even a tiny bit more expensive.

Yeah I get what you mean. The issue for me is that a single unit of Tzaangors might throw 2-3 mortals if you're lucky and in your castle while the beast has a 50% chance of throwing D6 mortal everytime. And you can debuff movement and stuff.

I dunno, maybe I play too cagey with my Tzaangors because they are so fragile (5+ save) do you guys front them agressively? I always try to put them behind screens for counter charge but they end up not doing much (because of no rend if you didn't land Arcane suggestion)

  13. How do you guys feel about the new Mutalith warscroll? Do you feel he's a good addition to a Tzeentch army?

He's fairly cheap for what he brings (185pts), he's 14w on a 4+ Monster that moves 10in, his melee profile is kinda meh, but I'm thinking of using him in the front, as a screen, to kind of delay the opponent as much as possible, along with Kairic Acolytes for the wizard bonus. He's basically a Mortal Wound constant harasser and his base is fairly big. Plus he can spawn Chaos Spawns on 6s.

  14. So, with the Slaves to Darkness tome out, I have a question regarding the Mutalith Vortex Beast, which I find very interesting for Tzeentch and it's fairly cheap (185). My Tzaangors unit is often times not doing much for me and I was thinking of switching it up for the beast.

I'm attaching a picture of the warscroll that mentions that if a TZEENTCH WIZARD is next to it, you can roll 2 dice instead of one and choose the effect.

My question is the following. Kairic Acolytes are wizards when they have 9+ models but they don't have the WIZARD keyword on their warscroll. Would they be considered Tzeentch wizards when they're next to the Mutalith?

Also attaching the Wizard mention on Kairic warscroll.

    Hi all,

is it possible to build Enlightend on Foot with spare weapons from the Enlightened on Disc kit and bodies from the standard Tzengors kit?

For instance, let´s say I get 2 sets of Enlightened on Disc and 1 set of Tzaangors. Can I then build

    6 Skyfires

    6 Enlightened on Foot

    (4 spare Tzaangors)?

Ultimately everything is possible with the right skills and tools. But they don't have the same bodies and poses, if that's what you're asking. At least from what I remember.

@Hannibal good luck lad. I myself just started converting blue horrors. It is a pain but i suppose i will summon them often enough to put in the work.

@Jabbuk depends as far as I am concerned on what you want to do. Pinks in the main list can be valuable. Using bridge to throw them mid board turn 1 for example. But I agree they are expensive for the main list.

It is also worth remembering that you are allowed to play 9 pinks and 1 blue to get around that pesky Bounty Hunter batallion. Or 19/1. So if your battleline requirements are already checked and you still want to have pinks in the list I would recommend using 1 blue in the unit.

Yes I was about to answer Hannibal about the all but one pink to make them not battleline. That being said, I really just use them as a durable screen in the front. I don't use bridge.

  17. What do you guys think of paying for a unit of 10 pinks on your starting lineup? Would you pay for pinks only if you lay heavily into them? I'm trying to make up my mind if it wouldn't be better to just sub them for 2 units of Kairic, for example. Since we can summon them.

    Thoughts on pinks as battleline?

  18. I was watching Coach's DoT review with Kaleb Walters, super good. Some guys in the comment section are saying that the auto-cast from Arcane Armies and the 2+ auto-cast from Blue Scribes don't generate FP because they are not "rolls" per say, even if the designer's note says that you generate a FP when your wizard or enemy wizard successfully casts a spell.

Honestly I feel like this is stretching the rules a bit. I mean, intentionally, in the game, the wizard casts a spell anyway, whether he rolls or use some other mechanic... he would generate a FP. Usually GW try to match what's going on on the battlefield with their rules. What do you guys think of this?

  19. Quick question. Does the Cult Demagogue trait keeps you from failing a cast with double 1s? I'm wondering if it does because it says: "If a casting roll for this general is a double, the casting attempt is successful and the spell cannot be unbound (REGARDLESS OF THE ROLL)

It's the regardless part that sounds like even if it is a double 1, it would still go through. What do you guys think?

I‘ve got similar favorites, although the Gaunt Summoner (either variant but who really picks the one on foot now) is no auto-include for me any longer. Maybe I’m too bad to see to appreciate his new abilities but they sound much better to me in theory. I still find the Fatemaster appealing as I like Tzaangors on disc. The Fluxmaster and Curseling are two amazing picks now IMO.

Thaumaturge still seems decent enough  on paper but I‘ve had very mixed results with it in past games so I think that‘s just me enjoying a Tzeentch hero that reminds me of the good old times when Tzeentch heroes were not just great sorcerers but deadly combatants as well (I always liked that we had brains and brawn) … the Blue Scribes - after not adding fate points - aren‘t really that interesting either now, which is a big change for my lists and probably many others‘ lists as well.

I never really been a huge fan of magisters before but the utility of summoning a spawn can‘t be argued with, so I‘ll use them more often.

I hope my copy arrives this week… planning is much more fun when you don‘t have to stop youtube vids for the info. 😇 I might aim for Guild of Summoners now as that way I can use my chickens and fate point generation has become easier (as well as cheaper LoCs). Eternal conflag I need to think about and Kairics are too bad ob the whole so pyrofane is more fun than sound but I will definitely try it.

Magister on Disc, paired with Cult-Demagog trait is incredible. You can just pass your bad DD as doubles and they will auto-cast, without the fear of blowing up AND they'll count as 2FP each cast. On the rules, you can pick which effect comes first so Cult-Demagog trait nulifies his bad trait. He has really good stats, is cheap and can summon Spawns. Pretty much auto include for me.
