So I got some rumors from someone on Reddit who got these from 4chan (so the usual grain of salt).  Based on this, it's possible they get more given the mention of crabs.  What's interesting is Bonereapers in January which we haven't heard much of.  Although maybe they teased the AoS box early to have a box for both mainline games shown?

Yeah, obviously take it with a grain of salt. I saw numerous "leaks" about the winter FAQ which proved to all be wrong. I'd say there is a next to zero % chance that OBR comes out in Jan or even Feb given that we have heard nothing. Maybe they make some big announcement for New Years, but given the information we have I would expect a Fyreslayers and/or IDK book before OBR atm.

  2. Overall these are great changes for the game as a whole. From the SBGL side of things Black Knights have play now and with bats at 75, Black Knights at 100 and Wolves at 135 we have a very good spread of chaff / summonable / fast objective grabbers. Nagash changes seem fine, I'm not really one to play god models so I don't really care personally what they do. All other faction changes are pretty good and I'm glad to see GW was not heavy handed with point changes. Sentinels went up a fair bit which is good, Blood Stalkers going up is good, change to Unleash Hell is great with the reduced range and its MODELS within range not unit so a double nerf to that.  The change to Kragnos is going to be interesting and is going to really put the hurt on armies that do not have chaff to help absorb 3D6 charges. Fortunately SBGL have the chaff to deal. I'm very surprised the Mawcrusha did not go up in points. Also, thank GOD about Amulet of Destiny going to a 6+ ward.

Overall I'm very happy with the updates as it relates to SBGL. A little surprised Belladamma did not get a points increase but hey, my successful tournament army remains unmolested by GW and that's great!

  3. I understand about logistical issues causing delays and that product releases are hard to project out. However, an FAQ is literally only a digital release and is one of the very few things that GW can actually control so it's weird that there has been no comment at all about it. I am wondering if they are wanting to wait until they also do the Nurgle FAQ to drop the Winter FAQ. If that is the case, the delay of Nurgle would make sense as to why we haven't heard/seen anything.

Then again it could just be GW's wonderful lack of communication 🤷‍♂️

Mhm… I like the changes to vampires, it‘s too little however, since they should‘ve had 6 attacks from the start.

    The casting bonus is nice.

The attack first for a summonable unit is weird: it‘s best on grave guard which are already good. I don‘t get why we get ZERO buff to non hero vampire units / non Summonable units apart from the Castelei AB. We really need +1 rend on Blood Knights and Vargheists imo.

Mount Traits: Baffled by the +1 units to be healed MT? I‘ve never ever even reached the max a singe hero could heal? It should have rephrased the ability to: Can heal any unit.

Agreed with all of this. The Mount Traits are very lack luster. I was really hoping we would see the return of Mist Form, allowing our VLoZD's to retreat and still charge, or better yet just give them Riders of Ruin. Also would have liked to have seen a re-roll on The Hunger ability. Either for Legion of Blood or something. At the end of the day I wasn't expecting much from WD and I feel SBGL (an already good book) received a few more weapons to their arsenals which is just fine. I may try out Radukar the Beast to try and play with Deadly Coordination.

Having a +2 for that clutch mystic shield or endless spell is always a good thing. Just the psychological threat to your opponent of a +2 caster is enough to draw attention away from some other units. And  yes, the Vamp lore spells aren't great, BUT getting a +2 on spells that DOUBLECAST on a 9+ is very very nice. ((Though I could be mistaken,  I'd have to go grab a codex and see if its a doublecast on a unmodified 9+ or not)).

Unfortunately it is unmodified cast rolls of 9+.

  6. 13 minutes ago, Sception said:

The bonus to Endless Legions for destroyed enemy units is applied directly to the roll, not to the target number.  Unstoppable Armies doesn't say "unmodified", so the modifier to the Endless Legions roll for destroyed enemy units should still apply.  If you destroy two enemy units and roll a '3' on the die for Endless Legions then you apply the +2 bonus for destroyed units and get a final result of '5' for the roll.  That meets the 5+ target for Endless Legions itself, and it should meet the 5+ target for Unstoppable Armies just as well.

That's a good point, I hadn't fully digested that yet. I still don't like a battle tactic relying on a single dice roll but it's just another option in the arsenal at this point.

  7. Speaking from a competitive side only:

-Allegiance Abilities are decent and certainly usable.

-Mount Trait is a bit disappointing, as others mentioned a slightly more reliable Pestilential Breath. But for me useless since I run Prince V instead.

-Core Battalions are terrible (I was really hoping for a 1 drop battalion just in case GHB updates make it so we can only run 1 of the same battalion. I run double battle regiment currently)

-Grand Strat is OK, but still think Broken Ranks is the go to in most cases.

-Battle Tactics are actually decent. Although it is a shame that Unstoppable Armies doesn't proc on if you return a unit, RAW you have to roll a 5+ and cannot increase those odds, so only a 33% chance to get a battle tactic. OK if you literally cannot do anything else.

The all units getting stinky tokens is interesting as it opens the question are they going to do something like that for khorne?

9 minutes ago, The Red King said:

This is from yesterday.  And judging by the complication to flavor to power analysis of this rule I expect individual khorne models will have to track how many skull tokens they have (1 per enemy model slain by that model regardless of points or wounds etc) and once they have 8 they'll get +1 to hit for the last turn of the game because let's be honest it took 4 turns to activate this.

Kinda reminds me of Kastelai "leveling up" that Vampire units get if they destroy a unit. In the case of Kastelai it is a nice bonus that some units get throughout the game. Maybe they will get a Command Trait like Rousing Commander were you can proc the "bonus" on demand for a round.

Do we know when this white dwarf is available?

I think I've read that it is usually third Friday of the month, that would put it on the 17th. We might get either a Warhammer Community article that could shed some light on it or a possible a leak from somewhere before then.

Getting real antsy on the timeframe for the balance update, any rumours on when it's actually coming?

Same. I'm holding off on additional list building and thus model buying / building / painting until I know what changes are being made. I think we are assuming before end of year but I don't know that GW has actually made that commitment this FAQ pass?

  11. The Seraphon update (two WD's ago) had a unique monstrous action, so we could see that too. In addition their mount traits were tied to a Stegadon, Carnosaur or Troglodon in the army that also has the Hero keyword and it was just a once per game thing (either add 1 to attacks characteristic or run and charge). Based on the Seraphon wording that would make me think a named character could do it, but maybe not. If they allow a named character on a mount to do a once per game "thing" then all of a sudden that becomes really good since almost all of our mounted Heroes are named. But a lot of this is probably wishful thinking..

Specifically no, however generally we can expect new Grand Strategies, Battle Tactics and Battalions.

Agreed. I think it will likely be Grand Strats, Battle Tactics and Battalions. I am hopeful we get a couple mount traits like Cities did last month. Although, even mount traits will be a bit whatever since the only mounts are VLoZD's, Wight King on Steed, and I guess the Bloodseeker Palanquin & Coven Throne.. If only named Characters could take mount traits....

Are there any rumors as to when the balance update is coming? I know GW said december but now that december is here I find myself checking the community site every hour 😂

All I know is that I attended the U.S. Open in Austin, TX a couple weeks ago. GW made announcements for the finals that happen this weekend and for 40k they are using some missions from next year's GT mission pack (they actually made a post today mentioning that on WarComm) however they said they would have liked to have done the same for AoS but they are still working on finalizing things. I realize that is more for GHB 2022 but they kind of indicated they were behind on some AoS stuff as a whole, although that is my personal read on things and not something they said specifically. So while I still expect an FAQ this month I also wouldn't be shocked if it got pushed back to Jan.

So what is everyone expecting from the winter points changes?

I am actually not sure. Gravelords turned out to be a strong faction, but at the same time I hardly hear people complain about any problem units. That makes me think that if the rules team wants to tone down the army for tournaments, everything across the board should probably go up like 10-20 points so that you end up with a unit less in the average list. The most obvious must-take is probably Belladamma, but she's not even a problem.

We might see a few points drops too, potentially. Black Knights are one obvious unit that need help. Maybe they can become cheap enough to compete with Fell Bats for the role of a throwaway unit that can stop unleash hell.

Things I'm fairly confident that will go up in points are Belladamma by 15-20 pts, Zombies by 5-10 points.

Things I think might go up in points are Graveguard ~10points, Blood Knights ~5-10points

Things that might drop: Black Knights

I doubt they are going to do much for Cursed City models.

Nicely done! Which Artefact are you running in your list again?

I'm running Fragment of the Keep on the Vengorian Lord for the -1 To Wound rolls within a 6" aura. It is crazy what the Vengorian Lord has tanked. Also, I usually circle a unit of BKs around his base. That way you have to charge the BKs and you're in his -1 To Wound aura and usually in the reduce rend by 1 aura. Then in my following turn if whatever charged me is still alive, I can have the BKs use Riders of Ruin to get out of combat and charge but the opponent cannot redeploy since they are stick in combat with the Vengorian Lord.

    15 minutes ago, Liquidsteel said:

Overall the sheer defensive resilience of the list is what catches people out, Blood Knights stick around forever.

Agreed! My game two was against Tzeentch Archaon and he didn't get roar off, so in his combat phase he killed a single blood knight. Then for the rest of the game Archaon was only able to kill 4 more BKs and that is all he killed the entire game. The mixture of the tankyness for BKs and the amount of bodies we can bring via Zombies or Skeletons is pretty nuts.

Also, my Belladamma Volga has been putting in serious work. I have not run her with Spell Portal yet and find that I don't really need to. I just play super aggressive with her and keep her next to dogs to wound shrug. I'm still shocked by the value she brings for 200 pts. Both warscrolls spells are fantastic and her ability to unbind/dispel twice at +1 is really great. Also I've used her Command Ability to pile in dogs 6" several times to avoid unleash hell and still tie up key units.

Took the list I went 4-1 with for a 3rd place overall finish out of 70 people at a GT a few weeks ago to a 14 person local this past weekend. Ended up going 3-0 and finishing second, there was a SoB player that also went 3-0 and scored 1 more tournament point than me to secure the first place finish at the tournament.

Game 1 was on Survival of the Fittest against a dwarf heavy Cities of Sigmar Tempest Eye list. He was running a death star of 30 irondrakes buffed out the a$$, basically 58 shots hitting and wounding on 2s with -2 rend then the champs anti monster weapon. He also ran 20 Phoneix Guard to screen / hold the center of the map. I squeezed out a win by basically outflanking or putting everything in the graves, minus my heroes and two dire wolf units. As expected he went to the center objective and as a result I pushed to the two side objectives. I then was able to sweep around one flank and mush his irondrakes back so they couldn't contest an objective any more which allowed me to secure the win.

Game 2 was Tooth and Nail against a Legion of Blood list running the super buffed VLoZD (-1 to hit & +1 save) everything else was Skeletons, Grave Guard, Zombies or foot support heroes. Given that you couldn't put ANYTHING in reserve for Tooth and Nail made things interesting for both of us since we were SBGL players that wanted things in the graves. My Army was much faster which allowed me to dictate engagements. The funny thing was my Prince Vhordrai failing a 3" charge with snake eyes and then using a CP to reroll into snake eyes again, that is a 1 in 1,296 chance!!! My Vengorian Lord tanked the heck out of the VLoZD, some Grave Guard and 2 Vamp Lords on foot for four combat rounds only taking 5 wounds (Fragment of the Keep + Reduce Rend by 1 is amazing!) Anyways I was able to be more aggressive and control the board which gave me the win.

Game 3 was Savage Gains against Vykros Dynasty. I went from never having played against SBGL to having two matches in a row. My opponent I knew really well and he's a great player so it was a fun game that tested both of us (he finished 6th (with a Tzeentch Archaon list) in the 70 person GT that I finished 3rd in . His list was Belladamma, two units of Grave Guard, some wolves, zombies, Necromancer, foot Vampire Lord and allied in was the named Gate Breaker Mega Gargant mercenary. Again the Vengorian Lord came up huge. In about 4 rounds of combat the Gate Breaker was only able to kill a single Blood Knight and put a few wounds on some other things. Fragment of the Keep on a Vengorian Lord is so good. Anyways, the game was super close and we ran out of time, so we talked it out. I had recently gotten a double turn which allowed me to sweep his back lines and then we just rolled off to see who got turn 5 (I did) and we both agreed I would have won.

So another solid showing for this list. I will likely be taking it to the Austin GT hosted by GW in November.

It's been a couple months since I posted here. But since going 4-1 and finishing 3rd overall at the 70 person Hammerfest GT, I took the same list to the U.S. Open in Austin Texas (117 person, two day GT run by GW) and also a local 16 man tournament this past Sunday. The good news is I went 3-0 at the local finishing first place. The bad news is, at the U.S. Open in Austin I did not do nearly as good as I had hoped, going 3-2 and finishing 28 out of 117. At the U.S. Open my first loss was against Legion of the First Prince, running Be'lakor, Bloodthirster, Skarrbrand, Daemon Prince, Contorted Epitome some Pink Horrors and Plaguebearers. The scenario was Apex Predators (only heroes can control an objective), I knew this was going to be an uphill battle since I only have 3 heroes. I decided to go first, because I didn't want to have to chew through all of the horrors. I had Belladamma surrounded by dire wolves and zombies, Prince V in the middle and the Vengorian Lord with a unit of Blood Knights on the other flank. My other unit of BKs got their 9" charge off and killed some Khorne dogs and tied up both Skarrbrand and a Bloodthirster, I only lost 1 and a half BKs in that combat. My opponents turn 1 he only scored his battle tactic (broken ranks), so thigns were looking good end of turn 1. However, he got the double turn and this is where things went to ******. Prince V needed to make seven 4+ saves I failed all of them and he died. Skarrbrand rolled a 6 against my Vengorian Lord and did 16 Mortal Wounds, killing him. Basically by the top of turn 2 I lost. So the rest of the game I just salvaged Victory Points. My other loss came against LRL Running Teclis, a Wind Spirit and some other stuff. It was actually a really close game, my opponent just got off a lot of 5 and 6s on the D6 damage rolls. I'm not too bummed by going 3-2 here, if dice would have slightly gone the other way it could have easily been a 4-1 weekend.

Overall, I am still in love with this book and specifically Kastelai.

You're right....still deadwalker as a faction could still get expanded if we go by the lore of their "kingdoms" and nobility(flesh colossi and other undead creation).

Honestly if GW wanted they could easily double or triple the size of SBGL. Vampire Infantry, Vampire Riding a mount somewhere between a Zombie Dragon and Horse. Skeleton Archers, Skeletons of a larger creature, Flesh golems, other creatures / animals in zombie form, etc. So many possibilities.

I'm really missing the extra movement from Deathmarch/Mastery of Death. It was so nice when Grave Guard were able to move 11". Well, I guess they deal way better damage now, at least. Still, I think if we had a Deathrattle-exclusive movement buff of some kind (run and charge, hero phase move...) I think that would boost the viability of Black Knights a lot.

A Deathrattle Hero, or spell lore to move things would be awesome.
