  1. Itsa cool conversion and nice paintjob! There’s purple in the cape, on top of what others have suggested, and the highlights go up to grey, which might be just a white mixed in to the other colors. For the armor, nuln oil is probably not going to get that effect. Glazing purple and some black will do the shadows. There’s some pink or yellow used in the highlights. I agree with previous post that Mephiston and evil sunz scarlet could form the mid tones. Skin looks like some cream colors going into white, with purple and green glazes. Flayed one flesh and pallid wych flesh probably would work, maybe layered over any sort of purple undercoat.
  2. Really enjoy the texture you’ve added to the head. Excellent paintjob, as always!
  3. Every step counts man! Enjoy the process; don’t worry about getting there too much!
  4. Got distracted painting a blood bowl model as a hag for the sisters It's a very nice forgeworld sculpt. It's been fun painting the nmm gold! Still have work to do on the base and clean up the skin which is pretty speckly on close inspection... Quite pleased with her pants too 😊
  5. I got some of my $@#-& together and did the undercoats for a bunch of additional miniatures this morning. The cauldron is intimidating so I'm going to paint it as I build it - otherwise it will be tricky to get at the inside bits. I'm thinking of doing alot of gold for this cauldron, for the slaughterqueen to ride on (she's already magnetized for a spot on it.) My other cauldron will probably be more steel and get setup as a medusa throne. Excited to paint something new! In the front row is model #26 who is still awaiting a varnish coat.
  6. Thank you very much for the kind words. I think that’s a good idea, now that I’ve finished the latest witch elf.
  7. Love the skin on the golem, and the nmm ironjawz wip!
  8. Thanks for the encouragement @LoofIsFool and @MitGas, it really helps! I really sppreciate the sharing, it’s good to hear of others getting back in the game.
  9. Thank you! Thank you MitGas, I appreciate your thoughts. I agree regarding the positive outlook and looking to do the things that bring one joy, especially physically. I am entering my middle years as well, and I really feel my body slowing down in terms of performance. Gotta hang on to what I can, and see if I can squeeze some more juice out of this potato. Yeap, relationship troubles are the worst 😔
  10. My painting has been quite sporadic this past month. Work has been busy, and life has been tumultuous. I recently picked up a brush again, to work on model #26 in my DoK painted collection, another Sister of Slaughter, this one with some slight conversions for variety. A part of it is like coming home to a space in myself, scraping aside the rust of the daily grind, restarting a conversation with myself. When I paint something new, there is continuous thought, imagination, testing. It is...tiring? Certainly rewarding when it comes together, but it is very much rooted in discovery and experimentation. This is more appealing to me when I am energized outside of my painting - perhaps when I am happy in other spheres and excited to explore when I sit down at my desk at the end of the day. In contrast, when I get to paint models in repetition (a la a billion witch elf/sisters) it is more meditative. Sometimes this is tedious, but in other moments it is also restorative. I already have a sense for where things will go. There is room to play a little - how much saturation, any new colors, where to place the lights - but it is all within the safety of the familiar. Every time I paint a witch elf, I learn a little more about painting them, try a little differently to see what I like better. For instance, I’ve been experimenting with the reflections in the leather and have been painting it with more white and teal than before. There is pleasure in the incremental improvements. I have been feeling regret as of late, and loneliness. I grow older and I wonder what I have done with my youth. It is good to paint, even if it is ultimately sisyphean.
  11. This is hilarious, probably unintentional, but totally valid per my understanding of the english language. I don’t think the rules writers saw this coming hahaha.
  12. Haha yes, if only they spread the buffs less restrictively.
  13. Is there no love for the Kraith? Personally I don't like their lore so much, but it's surprising that this subforum has no posts compared to all the other temples. They seem pretty straightforward - get lots of Sisters of Slaughter, and fight alot. With heroes in the front. It feels like they won't need to worry about command points either, just keep fighting... The venom of Nagendra also encourages being fighty.
  14. If your matte varnish is showing up glossy, you likely need to shake the bottle more. Matte varnish is matte because of the little white particles suspended in it that causes the surface to dry rough at a micriscopic level, which is what cuts the sheen. If your matte varnish is glossy, it means your particulates have probably settled on the bottom.
  15. Beware that whilst gaming its easy to tip pieces iff. Hell, I magnetized my avatar and in the 1 game I’ve played he was always at risk of tipping over.
  16. I love the lore of Draichi Gaineth being executioners seeking the perfect killing stroke. The rules also seem to encourage taking lots of witch elves and sisters of slaughter, alongside Cauldrons. They seem fairly straightforward - take either Cauldron Guard or Slaughter Troupe, add an extra Cauldron or 2, and another unit of elves. Since all of DoK combat gets better on the later turns, it seems like the general plan is to position on the first two rounds, and plan to charge everything in round 3, assuming playing against another melee army? I guess if they have shooting elements they would be good targets for deep striking Khinerai? Pity we don’t give any buffs to them at all.
  17. Yeap. I don’t really find the flowing/dripping sculpted blood very realistic or aesthetic.
  18. Wow. That’s a hunk of plastic. I dislike the low detail and chunkiness of the sculpts on endless spells I’ve seen, but the snake is pretty cool. Feels like GW’s answer to my prayer for a non Morathi begemoth
  19. Didn't paint at all this week, but got to sit down for a bit today to add some gold and steel nmm Started sketching the leather boot as well, starting to feel the itch to paint some more again
  20. Question - is Morgwaeth objectively better than a hag queen on foot? The warscrolls appear identical, ut Morgwaeth is cheaper and has a squad running with her as well. Why would anyone take hags on foot without first taking Morgwaeth?
  21. The last question has a typo in one of the answers i think - it should say, “no - currently buy from third party and continue to buy from third party”
  22. Hold up hold up hold up Shouldn't we get our own dedicated subforum now that we have our new tome? See CoS and LRL. I demand satisfaction!
  23. Started a new face today. Super fun - there are quite a few face sculpts in the witch elf kit and it's really neat to see how changing just a few things changes the mood of the face! This particular face I like because of the eyebrows being more obvious. Not so confident with freehanding brows on some of the sculpts with less pronounces brows.
  24. Ok, rules question - if you take allies do u need to fill battleline from those allies? Eg. If I wanted to run a war hydra from CoS, do I also need CoS battleline, or can I take whatever I want as long as I stay under 25% of my total points? Or, if I wanted to run a black dragon and sorceress? I just want a behemoth that's not Morathi - not because I dislike her or anything, purely because I like dragons.
