  1. Crematorians Mortek spam seems like it will be pretty powerful given the recursion the army has access to, with the added bonus of being more friendly to large models now, as it is based on wounds characteristic rather than models slain (Katakros exploding for 20 dice is certainly... something). Then again everything in the army can be at least -2 rend with a command ability, so mortals don't fill the armour-cracking niche that they might do for some armies. I feel the Stalliarch Lords will pretty much be as powerful as the Deathriders warscroll, which isn't super great now as they kind of fill a medium cavalry role. If their spears gave them a 'lance bonus' as they do for several other factions (either -1 rend or +1 damage on the charge, sometimes both), then the subfaction would be significantly more powerful, as making your charges would be even more important. The Null Myriad as very much a silver bullet, but at least it's a pretty damn powerful one against offensive magic armies. That said, I don't see anyone taking this without knowing who they're facing, and if they do take it knowing they're against someone like a Tzeentch, it's just a bit mean. I can see some much better players than I using endless spells such as the Burning Head to 'activate' key units in an Ivory Host army before an engagement, but i'm wary of anything my opponent can limit/control with clever play. It seems like alpha strikes and strikes first/last shenanigans in the hands of a skilled player could really shut down the usefulness of this bonus.
  2. It's pretty difficult to critique such a well-reasoned list, i'd be interested in hearing how it performs! My only possible suggestion would be to drop a Crawler and the Deathriders, in order to pick up a unit of Morghasts of your choice for a punchier, faster hammer with some neat abilities (disabling CA's, Deepstrike), and bringing the second unit of Morteks up to 20. There are so many powerful AoE buffs in the list courtesy of Katakros and Zandtos, it feels like maximising the targets that these can hit may be better in the long run that the output of the second Crawler, as well as increasing the usefulness of your recursion abilities.
  3. The Boneshapers would ideally stay glued to the Immortis Guard, yeah. Good point about Arkhan. He's likely the better option, maybe worth dropping the bird for. The Mortisan spam is just for the grand strategy really, although one of the generic ones would probably be a better pick. I'd agree here as well. The mass Boneshapers is more a case of no other Mortisan heroes bringing anything special to the list, rather than any pressing need for four healers. That said, resurrecting Immortis could be nasty, as the unit is unlikely to be wiped in a single phase, and up to five (dice rolls permitting) could be brought back in a turn for no CP/Spell cost. I might look at dropping one Boneshaper for an Ossifector, purely for the artefact, although the 12" range is pretty limiting.
  4. I've had a go at expanding the 'Oops, all constructs' Petrifex idea out to 2000 points, let me know what you think! Petrifex Elite Grand strategy – Cremation and Termination Boneshaper (General, Dark Acolyte, Artisan’s Key) Boneshaper Boneshaper Boneshaper Immortis Guard x6 Immortis Guard x6 Stalkers x3 Stalkers x3 Morghast Harbingers x2 Soulstealer Carrion 2000 on the dot. I’d love to vary the heroes up a bit, but honestly the Boneshapers are just so much better, especially for a list like this. The heal/res component is an ability rather than a spell, so they can all spam it on their Immortis bodyguards, which will hopefully allow for the scoring of the Sculptor’s entourage battle tactic, as well as the Cremation and Termination grand strategy. The Stalkers are there as disposable hammers (potentially scoring the much more difficult Edge of Obiliteration tactic), whereas the Morghast live in reserve to project power by threatening a backfield objective or sniping heroes/ranged units (they can reroll their own charge as elites, and potentially fight first if they roll well). The Carrion lets the list bully hordes off objectives, as it can’t be dispelled in that turn if cast by the general. The list makes good use of Nadirite Weapons (pretty much everything can be at least D2 -2 rend), and the Petrifex -1 damage effects everything bar the bodyguarded Boneshapers. Finally, there are eight units on the table for maximum Relentless Discipline goodness.
  5. They definitely fill the bodies niche, and could be useful as a backfield objectives holder. That said, they're a unit that doesn't contribute towards the extra CP conditions for multiple OBR units on the board, or the majority of battle tactics/grand strategies. I'd argue that a Mortek unit is more durable, and can absorb the OBR exclusive command abilities. The mortal wound output isn't the most valuable in OBR either, as the army is full of rend and ways to increase it. On the other hand, I can definitely see a scenario wherein a low wound hammer unit tries to take an objective from this lot, and ends up killing itself with the on-death mortal wounds, so they definitely have their uses.
  6. I imagine the Soulstealer Carrion will prove a popular choice in any list that isn’t Mortek spam, especially when coupled with the Dark Acolyte command trait. Wouldn’t be surprised if that goes in up points before long. I can see Morghast Harbingers seeing some limited play too, as they fill a niche as a pretty nasty deep striking hammer whose only real competition in terms of speed are Deathriders, which aren’t the punchiest.
  7. Bit of a memey Petrifex list, but maybe it could work for 1000: Boneshaper (General, First spell unbindable, double cast heal) Immortis Guard x6 Stalkers x3 Stalkers x3 Soulstealer Carrion 1000 points on the dot. Low model count, but the carrion can turn off enemy hordes when it comes to scoring objectives. The Immortis and Stalkers both have battle tactics associated with them, and the whole army minus the Boneshaper (who is bodyguarded to heck by the Immortis) takes -1 damage.
  8. There has been some debate locally as to whether or not the sword and shield option for Freeguild Guard 'uses up' the +1 save modifier a unit is allowed, as the warscroll reads: "Add 1 to save rolls for attacks that target a unit armed with Freeguild Swords and Shields", making all out defence/cover only useful against rend. Has there been any official word on whether or not modifiers applied in a unit's loadout count towards the +1 limit?
  9. That's a fair point, especially considering how achievable 2+ saves are in the new edition. Whilst it feels awful to fail/get charged on lance demis, that probably says more about my generalship than the warscroll. I'm guessing units of three will be the way to go with the new edition, thanks to the new coherency rules. Then again, Hammerhal will be swimming in CP if MSU is the new norm, so multiple units fighting twice should be pretty common.
  10. If the Soulblight tome is anything to go by, we could see units with multiple weapon options have them condensed down to one (see skeletons as the prime example). On one hand, this would cut down some strategic choices, especially if units like Freeguild Guard lose their 2" range options, but on the other, it would reduce the chance of people building their models 'wrong' as weapon profiles change from edition to edition. Personally, i'd love to see Demigryph Knights get the Blood Knight weapon profile (3/3/-1/1, with 2 damage on the charge), especially if we're losing the lancers battalion. Seems like a decent middle ground between their two current options and keeps them viable in a variety of situations.
  11. Hey, folks. Another new AoS player here! I used to play a lot of Warhammer Fantasy back in the day, before drifting off towards the end of 8th edition. I’m looking to get into AoS with a Nighthaunt force converted from some Bretonnian miniatures that I bought before they were squatted. The issue has that I don’t have very many of them, and acquiring more is an expensive hassle these days. That said, would a low model-count Nighthaunt force consisting primarily of Spirit Hosts and Hexwraiths and leveraging the per-model recursion of Lady Olynder and a Black Coach be viable, or do I really need something like a unit of Grimghasts to avoid being torn apart by hordes? It doesn’t have to be super-competitive, just something that stands a decent chance against the average opponent. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
