The other reason for lotr being smaller was a contractual obligation to make the models incompatible with Warhammer

    This isn’t true.

Rick Priestly confirmed recently that the reason models were smaller was so that they  could fit everything on a single sprue and keep the production costs down per box.

Again: terminology. In either case that would not be a throne unless it‘s in the throneroom.

My throne is in the bathroom.

That makes sense if the throne is only set up wholly within the FEC deployment zone.  But why would they have built it out in the middle of the board? It's like having a baggage train, and sending it out in the middle of the battlefield while the general ranks up his forces.

The throne looks like something that should be in your army's "base camp" which (scenario and/or themed battlefield notwithstanding) would not be halfway between your army and your enemy.  Actually, the more I think about it, I hope the throne's rules stipulate that it has to be set up in your own deployment zone (more likely "within your army's territory").

Well, previously, they were encamped there but driven off by an opposing force. The king, unhappy as the loss of his throne, has decreed that they must push forward and reclaim this for glory when it is in the midst of an enemy army.

    Done.

  3. I'm fairly happy, as I spent the weekend digging up my old ghoul collection, glued up some of the recent GW plastic ones to add to them and will be painting everything this week............then read a new book is on its way. Perfect timing. I reckon, once I've done the bigger beasts next week, the full project will be done in a fortnight :)

Don't like that throne much though. Its too ordered, clean and designed for how I see my lot. I know its supposed to be a throne, but it doesn't have to be a literal one. I'd just make one from a big pile of rotting bones thats been sat in.

This might use a crude power approximation so new players know what they‘re in for if they choose for example Kharadrons

    sth. Along the lines of:

(very weak, weak, medium -, medium, medium +, strong, very strong)

    power approximation

    KO - weak

    Bretonnia - Very Weak

    LoN - Strong

    SCE - Strong

    FeC - Medium

    DoK - Very Strong

    Seraphon - medium +

    Beastclaw Raiders - medium -

    IdK - Strong

    etc.

Tiers used to be the WFB way of expressing this.

Hey- absolutely- i'm wanting to run a range of events- right now we're doing a single monthly one day AoS tournament, but i'd like to do a narrative doubles event, perhaps all in the same realm with all rules in place, with scores for painting etc, along with a two day tournament.

Cool - sounds like just the ticket! Should have read your signature, really ;)

When it happens, get the ads out and we'll see about getting permission from HQ!

  6. Funnily enough, I was just wondering if this would ever be a thing and dismissed it! Haha

I’d  probably be getting a copy, but would prefer it focussed more on ordinary types rather than the big name characters who appear in and drive much of the current narrative fiction.

Would probably include Stormcast in that as well - give or take that opinion :) - as the more common folk moving through the realms and it’s threats is the sweet spot for me rather than Demi gods in armour.

also - getting the AOS28 bunch involved could be a good move

Yeah the marauder horses come up alot in searches. They look great but its the saddles that bother me. Not sure how hard they would be to remove. Was thinking someting really different and using spider riders but not sure

I'm planning on using the Otherworld Centaurs as the base for the conversions.

Backup would be the wood elf wild riders. Bit too active in the posing though.

@Mosquito onthe TenthFloor try reading the new Novella books, they establish peoples and settings really well. Skaven Pestilens also does well even though the civilization it describes is somewhat torn to bits by the rats.

Cheers! I'll have a flick through one in Waterstones or somewhere to see. Always found much of the Black Library a bit too purple for my taste, but I'll certainly give it a look and see.

  9. Never really rage quit..............drifted away from WFB due to boredom with what it had turned into around 7th and didn't bother with 8th after a couple of tries..........then drifted away from GW altogether from boredom over what they had turned into............went pure historical.

Gave AOS a try when it came out, didn't think much of it really. And I still can't make head nor tails of the setting? Are there actual people in these realms? Society?

But.........I like a modelling project, I like to cut loose with painting and making things, which only goes so far with historical stuff, so a bit of a loose approach is kinda what AOS is for, isn't it? Certainly for me.
