1. Interesting, just the two armies of infamy and two special characters. The weird new shaman has a little bit of troll in him a la Grom. Some more subtle expectation-management language towards the end saying it will take a long time for the 9 core factions to get their stuff released, and the scale of the project has grown (presumably after it shrunk at first during development) and leaving the door open for other stuff to come back in scope Trying to thread the "Kislev and Cathay will come later, but buy other stuff in the meantime and don't get mad at us for saying they're not actually coming until then" needle
2. I'm probably not going to get to collecting Greenskins for a while, but I really want that new shaman model. It strikes a perfect balance between "he looks ridiculous" and "you'd be too scared to tell him he looks ridiculous".
3. Disappointed that they used the term "Gubbinz" to describe some of the preorders but did not in fact rerelease Gubbinz the Jester from Lair of the Orc Lord.
4. "even this guy may cast a shadow" [gestures at confused snotling]
5. Thanks - It's meant to be more of a sea green overall (doing a lesser-spotted Cothique-themed force to fit in with the expeditionary/seafaring nature of High Elves in the current game's setting), but there's enough (dark sea) blue in the mix that it doesn't feel too outside of High Elf tradition I've really come round on those Island of Blood Swordmasters after painting these, I wasn't really a fan of the "unit champion holding his helmet for no reason" aesthetic, but I've kind of got into the headcanon that's he's just a really vain guy who is doomed to be eventually domed by an unlucky repeater crossbow bolt at Finuval Plain. Hopefully they do re-release IoB as a ton of people will want it, but the mixed sprues might need them to reconsider their current obstinate attitude to the poster-rats for AOS 4e
6. Daaaamn, I started painting six swordmasters in January and I've only just finished them Gonna be a bit more pragmatic about the paint jobs for the back ranks in general tho Fun with magnets, slightly less fun with fiddly banners
7. Yeah I rate Battleshock Wargaming. With youtube batreps I'm looking for a combination of sensibly edited to remove boring delays and chatter/good balance of high level view and closeups of nice miniatures and dice rolls/games being played for some measure of fun and entertainment value/presenters not incredibly annoying, and they're up there on those fronts. They also seem to play a good range of stuff and get newer armies to the table pretty frequently
8. I got ol' Aenur for a £6 off ebay a few years ago, people seem to want £35 for him in our strange current Warhammer economy. I'm going to run him as a Loremaster type character as he looks more like what I imagine one should than the chunky greaves squid-throwing official one
9. Nearly done with the front rank of my swordmasters, and slowly rescuing some seaguard and assorted Ebayed character models from their inferior 2019 paintjobs

10. Thanks! It's Scale75 Surfer Orc Flesh with Vallejo Ivory and dark sea blue mixed in for highlights/shade. SOF goes on so easily, the only thing I'd used it for before was airbrushing some spooky/cursed warcry terrain but I've got my supplies in of it now, it's going to see a lot of use
11. I'm doing a Cothique High Elf army, basically cos I like the scheme. Time has been tight in terms of getting my swordmasters up to the standard of the test model, but it's enjoyable. I have a loremaster, a dinky little 5th Ed mage, 15 Seaguard, 19 swordmasters, 20 archers, 8 shadow warriors and 5 reavers (if I can ever find the damn sprues for the last two). Gonna try and get good progress on the infantry so I can splurge on characters and phoenix guard when the range is actually on sale at normal prices.
12. Thanks, this has saved me from Wayland Games back-order purgatory at last
13. I think some people just naturally have that "how can I break/optimise this" mindset and it's probably super useful in tech jobs and stuff, I just can't fathom why they want to apply it to a thematic wargame where elves fight goblins
14. The online only mathhammerers/amateur rules lawyers pushing insane interpretations of things they haven't read properly have been having a field day (elsewhere). I kinda hoped they'd give us like one more week of childlike excitement that there were fun army lists out for all of the old favourites Anyway, I've been consulting my intellect and found that even in the optimal 13-wide formation, silver helms will only do *._23@ wounds to a T3 unit on the charge on a wet Wednesday in Stoke, so anybody who was painting a unit of those will want to immediately melt them down and reconsider their life choices
15. Which units can actually use this rule for High Elves? Would it be mainly ranged units who end up in melee (assuming you'd never build a character that had nothing but a hand weapon unless you were really low in points)? Does a spearmen unit champion automatically count as having a spear in line with the rest of the unit or can they reroll ones?
16. Given Comrade GW's newfound hatred of scalpers, maybe they could factor this into their marketing of the factions. The Wood Elves of Athel Loren are coming to no-look snipe your wallets, you mayfly parasites
17. I got a good deal for a few Lothern Seaguard on ebay and some High Elf archers on TrollTrader over the last few days, and both orders were cancelled due to mysterious sudden unavailability of the items. It's like buying a dang house, slap a bid in and pray that market conditions don't change while the paperwork's being drawn up Probably karma for me buying Spire of Dawn for £80 and then selling the Skaven half for £70 four years ago I guess
18. OK I jinxed myself, it took me a long time to get the sword shading right and the eyes on these are harder to pick out than the newer models. But I'm still a liiittle bit more optimistic I can get through 17 more of these
19. I painted up a test scheme Swordmaster in the week and couldn't believe how easy it was compared to the wardens and sentinels I've done. I just...painted some straight lines for the armour trim then painted some silver rectangles for the armour, gryph charger grey and it was like 70% done. The instances of "****** I spilled over into an intricate detail I'd already painstakingly finished" were almost 0. The Lumineth certainly made me feel well-prepared for the High Elves though, it's like spending a few months at a higher belt in martial arts and belatedly realising you can smash white belts now Totally agree about the Instagram culture/paint job dysphoria as well, nothing makes me happier than seeing someone who's good at getting through lots of models with nice paint jobs and good colour schemes but to a realistic, sustainable tabletop standard. I think Vince Venturella's very pragmatic outlook on this stuff has always been very helpful
20. In ToW Savage Orcs are represented by a warpaint upgrade to regular orcs that you pay points for. However GW don't appear to have indicated old Savage orc models will be sold, so it appears to be a "fine, use your bonesplitterz" situation
21. Their aversion to their employees having surnames is soooo weiiiiird, it even extends retrospectively to people whose names have long been widely known, how are you referencing a legendary monster sculptor known only as "Trish", come on
22. Test successful imo. Age old question: how are you doing the cloaks?
23. Would make sense that if the next "edition" or cycle is going to focus on onset of the Great War Against Chaos, that daemons start to feature more heavily, and it potentially also makes sense for a Dark Elf comeback at that point to invade Ulthuan and give Young Teclis somebody to throw down against at Finuval Plain. Give me Urien Poisonblade, give me that legendary jobber to the stars Korhien Ironglaive, give me my man Fearghal of the Iron Spear. If by that time Malerion actually has some AOS models that are to Dark Elves what Lumineth are to High Elves then the range crossover stuff goes out of the window. Not saying that will actually happen, but somebody on the WHFB discord (that's obviously gone into overdrive this week) did say that they know a playtester and that Kislev and Cathay rules are written (we already knew from Total Warhammer 3 marketing that they'd had quasi-8th ed rules written for them by GW) and that the miniatures are designed but not in production, and that if the game succeeds enough they'll be a major focus of the second edition. I have no idea if that has any credibility at all, but I presume if there was a wave 2 not every "legacy army" would remain completely off the table while Kislev/Cathay/Norsca got brand new ranges. There's a lot of picking through the aggregated bones of every Youtube review of the army books going on right now; I'm seeing a lot of general enthusiasm for the game, though with a general emerging feeling that infantry is a bit gash this edition and that Warriors of Chaos have been hit with the nerf bat (in a 6th kinda ed way? idk 6th ed) and in a lot of places have some fairly arbitrary-seeming missing rules like plate armour and counter-charge that equivalent units from other factions have (Black Orcs and Phoenix Guard are more heavily armoured than Chaos Warriors). The wait for a Chaos Warrior army where it's fun to take lots of actual Chaos Warriors may still be ongoing There is a batrep featuring Empire for the first time here which I haven't watched yet because the two TK vs bret ones are so long
24. I've seen tomb guard, stalkers and necrosphinx among the kits that didn't sell out quickly in the UK, not sure about ushabti
