not sure "dipping into fractions" is ever the "simple" answer

Yeah in this case I meant purely in terms of how significant the rules rewrite is. An adjustment to weapon ranges could be done in as little as an app update, but would probably be more frustrating in the long run. Measuring "weapon ranges" for melee combat has always been both inconvenient and unintuitive.

  2. Some things that have occurred to me (some of this has already been mentioned):

    • Adjust how combat ranges work. 25 mm bases with spears shouldn't be fighting in three ranks (or two ranks with swords). This punishes low model count armies like stormcast, who are already at a disadvantage. The "simple" answer would be to adjust weapon ranges based on base size and start dipping into fractions (half inch range, 3/4 inch range, 1.5 inch range), but that might be difficult to implement in practice. They might also adjust it so all weapons have a half inch range by default but certain weapons have "reach" where they can attack through models in base to base. Not sure.
    • Make magic less of a zero sum game. Right now the armies who are best at casting also tend to be the armies who are best at blocking enemy magic. This makes bringing in a support wizard in a non magic focused list difficult.
    • Adjust how monsters work. This could be straight up warscroll changes (combat focuse monsters get higher wounds/damage) or rules bonuses (eg, monsters get +1 save, +1 damage, +1 to wound, and/or -1 to be wounded against non-hero/monsters).
    • Battleshock. IDK how, just change it.

  3. While it's flawed to say we won't get faction updates since they already got 2.0 tomes, it's equally flawed to think they will be updated because their tomes aren't up to par. Keeping every army on an even footing has never really been the top priority of GW, you only need to look at how long it took for a Seraphon update.

As of right now there's no real rumours suggesting IDK, Nurgle or DoK updates in the immediate future.

Plus Seraphon already have a book and it is fine. Far from perfect, but it has been very resilient to change.

Not really, it's been almost entirely supplanted by GHB rules, except for most of the specific warscrolls which are also on the app. The batallions are the only thing the book offers.

  5. I don't imagine the rest of the army will be made up of T-posing elves awkwardly detached from their mounts, so it should be well received. Looking forward to the rest of the units. With Teclis they were trying to do something unique and I don't personally think it worked.

  6. Current rumor engines are pointing at elves and some kind of new Destruction force. It really comes down to "Seraphon get a small update in the next couple months" or "Seraphon get a major update year from now". Unless we get the worst of both worlds.

I'd personally rather they just dump a book on us soon. It would at least set expectations for what the force will be going forward. I don't like the uncertainty of another CoS culling.

  7. So we know the elves are going to be high elvish, but what are you guys expecting/hoping their centerpiece/monster kits will look like? Think they'll go back go dragon riders, or try something different?

I personally can never get enough of X on a bigass dragon myself.

This is an old discussion, but honestly this doesn't resemble current Seraphon designs. Unless it's a brand new dino (which they don't really need but could be awesome) or the saurus are going to look completely different (which I wouldn't really be a fan of).

  9. I don't really see any indication that Seraphon will be a big release, unless we seriously think it's going to be another six months til their book. The tease suggests that Pointy Elves are the next big releases, and there aren't really any rumour engines suggesting upcoming seraphon.

I'm hopeful there will be endless spells, terrain, and maybe one new plastic kit, but I can't see anything bigger than that in the near future.

  10. Could the "giant" quote potentially relate to Forgeworld working on more AoS super units? I know they'd been planning on talking about the future of Forgeworld at some point, as it seems like it had kind of hit a rut.

  11. Given that they're investing at least three years into developing this (possibly more), I suspect it's going to require mostly new models and won't just be a rule system you can slot old AoS and Fantasy models into. Comparisons to Horus Heresy suggest some major dough on the line.

I like the idea of a game focused on the time period with Sigmar as a mortal. Offers an opportunity for fresh looks at old factions.

Isn't that the point of the pronunciation though? That 'orruk' and 'ogor' are close enough to the older terms that you can just slur it a little and it'll be fine?  "Oh-ger" vs "Oh-gor". I know I'll be in the grave before I go to the trouble of adjusting my terminology for that.

I meant they actually spell it as Ogre when they list the models included.

I think Libs are on 40s.

25mm is fine to me.  These guys are constructs, no need to wrap flesh in armour.

It keeps the nod towards the slimness of skeletons, but has a little more bulk as befits their 'elite' status.

I am curious to see just how elite these guys are though? 2W? 4+ Sv?

I think 2 wounds on a 25mm base would be a bit weird. Maybe a high armour army, 4+ or even 3 + with a death save.

Don't skaven struggle for plastic kits? I suppose they could put in clan rats, plague monks, a bell / catapult and some storm fiends.

Stormcast would be sequitors, evocators / mounted evocators and maybe a Lord arcanum on Mount?

If we assume the Skaven box doesn't overlap with Carrion Empire and the Start Collecting Pestilens, I could see something like clanrats+stormvermin+bell+verminlord in a Verminus themed box.

That means we'd have different packs for Pestilens, Verminus and Skryre collectors, with Moulder and Eshin not really having enough plastic kits to warrant discounted releases like this.
