  1. Many battles in history have been won off luck & random elements. The double turn reflects that, IMO. Make shooting be YGIG like combat and beef up Look Out Sir and/or allow wound soaking bodyguards for Heroes and you solve the issue without losing the double turn. The lack of double turn in 40K is why I’ve never started playing it.
  2. Personally, I love the double turn because it gives weaker armies (like my BoC) a chance to actually win games! It could use some incentive tweaking though. I like the idea that the person who suffers the double turn gains a CP to spend on things like Inspired Presence or you get an auto-ability like “Dug In” that lets you pick one unit to either auto-pass Battleshock or get +1 Save, forcing you opponent to make hard choices. Speaking of Battleshock, I def think it needs an overhaul: 1) too many units (sometimes whole armies) are immune to it for the whole game now. As a mechanic, Battleshock immunity can be very fluffy but it needs to be used sparingly, like the Oathstone. It should always be a CP spend, IMO. I don’t want to roll more dice, ala making Battleshock rolls for each model in a unit. But I don’t really know what would work better. Nothing is more backbreaking to me, as a BoC, player than to have 20+ Ungors run away. I have issues with mvt too, particularly failed charges. @Beer & Pretzels Gamer has some good thoughts on fixing that. Maybe he will share. I’d also like to see melee weapon range & rend standardized to reflect the model. Mega-Gargant melee profiles really revealed how flawed many of the game’s melee weapon profiles are. If they are gonna squat models, units, or armies, I’d love some advance notice. Overall though, I’m happy with how AoS has evolved. If they revised Path To Glory to be more like 40K Crusade, I’d be ecstatic! More narrative gaming is always a plus.
  3. After a quick battletome perusal, this is what I've come up with. Totally see the glaring weaknesses in terms of screening off my Heroes and maintaining a strong objective presence. On the other hand, it also looks like it would hit like a hammer and maybe I just need to play to table. Allegiance: Soulblight - Bloodline: Dragon Warriors Prince Vhordrai (460) - Lore of the Vampires: Soulpike Vampire Lord on Zombie Dragon (440) - General - Vampiric Sword & Shield & Chalice - Command Trait: Mist Form - Artefact: The Saccharine Goblet - Lore of the Vampires: Vile Transference Coven Throne (240) - Lore of the Vampires: Spirit Gale Vampire Lord (140) - Lore of the Vampires: Amaranthine Orb 6 x Vargheists (300) 3 x Vargheists (150) 3 x Vargheists (150) 5 x Dire Wolves (70) - Allies Extra Command Point (50) Total: 2000 / 2000 Extra Command Points: 1 Allies: 70 / 400 Wounds: 103 Run the Dire Wolves out as an early objective grabber/distraction, while I focus on just overrunning my opponent with multiple charges. Strong spellcasting a plus too. An optimized list? No way, but for the games I play on Zoom with @Beer & Pretzels Gamer, which tend to run toward elite builds for brevity's sake, could be fun.
  4. Great thread idea! Positivity in Warhammer for me is that@Beer & Pretzels Gamer set up a Zoom league for myself and some friends so I’ve actually been playing more than ever and finally getting a handle on the game from a rules and mechanics perspective. I also am working on a dedicated hobby space that I hope to have set up in time to paint the 12x Vargheists I have coming. Whether it’s painting, playing, list building, theory-crafting, reading reviews or Black Library, etc., Warhammer brings me hours of focused, hobbying joy.
  5. Do we think Blood Knights will get new kits?
  6. So I kinda walked backward into a Soulblight list without even realizing it. Over the last year, I'd picked up both the VLoF & VLoZD, plus a Coven Throne. Recently I won a lot of 12 Vargheists and Prince Vhordrai and according to Ayzr that gives me a complete 1970pt list, if I include an extra CP & Balewind. Kinda an elite list but one that also seems like it would hit like a freight train. I recognize this list might not be viable anymore once the new tome comes so I want to get some games in. Any thoughts on this? Should I drop the Balewind and ally in some Direwolves for chaff?
  7. Well my thought is that a bubble wrapped Cogsmith can heal the Gyros as needed but maybe I’ll swap him for another Copter
  8. So I've spent months tinkering and I've come up with an all-Duardin CoS list that I am very happy with: Allegiance: Cities of Sigmar - City: Tempest's Eye Mortal Realm: Aqshy Gotrek Gurnisson (520) - Allies Warden King (100) - General - Command Trait: Hawk-eyed - Artefact: Seerstone Amulet Cogsmith (60) - City Role: General's Adjutant Runelord (90) Runelord (90) 10 x Longbeards (100) - Ancestral Weapons & Shields - City Role: Honoured Retinue (Must be 5-20 models) 20 x Hammerers (280) 20 x Irondrakes (300) 2 x Gyrobombers (160) 2 x Gyrocopters (140) 2 x Gyrocopters (140) Total: 1980 / 2000 Extra Command Points: 0 Allies: 520 / 400 Wounds: 104
  9. Last night, my Megaboss on Foot one-shot a Terrorgheist with the Destroyer artefact.
  10. Maybe it is because I live in NYC but our wargaming community here is incredibly diverse, and many of our players are happy to see GW diversify their armies to reflect that reality.
  11. Played Darkwalkers vs Deepkin and won. The ability to both ambush & redeploy is huge. I took 40x Ungor Raiders for max shooting effect but otherwise stuck with MSU and was thrilled with how my list played. Great for board control and objective play and for messing with your opponent's head.
  12. Sorry if this was answered already but with the Dread Saurian not mentioned in the actual battletome -- is it still Matched legal and summonable?
  13. Thanks. Thinking of Orruks as my next army and just want to read about, be aware of all options.
  14. Which issue of WD has the extra IJ stuff?
  15. I've played Belakor as an ally for my Chaos Dwarfs and yeah some players get salty about it but others have figured out ways around it. I wouldn't say it is an OP ability. Thanks for the word on Grashrak. The spell is great but them plus Belakor takes a potential one-drop list and makes it four drops. I feel like BoC need to go first to win games; otherwise our low Saves and low Bravery leave us ripe for being tabled quickly.
  16. Been doing a deep dive into the BoC tome in preparation for a (now delayed) tournament. I think this tome is highly underrated. It certainly takes savvy piloting but a Gavespawn/Pestilent Throng list could be devastating with the proper build. Wondering too, if for a mere second drop, adding someone like Belakor would make it even better. I’ll post some draft list ideas soon. quick question though: Are Grashrak Despoilers one additional drop or two? Love his spell but don’t want his thugs
  17. If I had a second Ghorgon, I totally would. Might consider it. As for the Bestigor question, I've considered it both ways but the 2x20 gives me better board control and given how easy it is for most armies to shrug MWs at this point, I'm think of them as more of a bonus than the point of the list. 4x10 sounds like a headache but maybe I'll go 1x20 and 2x10!
  18. Already have one in my list. Here's the list, swapping Cygor for Jabber: Allegiance: Beasts of Chaos- Greatfray: GavespawnMortal Realm: GhurBeastlord (90)- General- Trait: Unravelling Aura - Artefact: Mutating Gnarlblade Great-Bray Shaman (100)- Artefact: The Knowing Eye - Lore of the Twisted Wilds: Vicious StranglethornsGreat-Bray Shaman (100)- Lore of the Twisted Wilds: Tendrils of AtrophyDragon Ogor Shaggoth (180)- Lore of Dark Storms: Sundering Blades20 x Bestigors (240)20 x Bestigors (240)10 x Ungors (60)- Mauls & Half-Shields30 x Ungor Raiders (240)1 x Tuskgor Chariots (60)1 x Tuskgor Chariots (60)Ghorgon (160)Jabberslythe (160)Pestilent Throng (200)Ravening Direflock (30)Wildfire Taurus (80)Total: 2000 / 2000Extra Command Points: 1Wounds: 141
  19. Am thinking of swapping my Cygor for a Jabber. The Cygor's unbinds are nice but dude sucks in melee and dies easily. The Jabber won't hold up much longer but at least I have the chance to dish some real dmg plus the Aura of Madness, though unlikely, forces my opponent to make some hard decisions about where to place his units. Thoughts?
  20. How about this? Allegiance: Beasts of Chaos- Greatfray: GavespawnMortal Realm: GhurBeastlord (90)- General- Trait: Unravelling Aura- Artefact: Mutating GnarlbladeGreat-Bray Shaman (100)- Artefact: The Knowing Eye- Lore of the Twisted Wilds: Vicious StranglethornsGreat-Bray Shaman (100)- Lore of the Twisted Wilds: Tendrils of AtrophyGrashrak Fellhoof (140)- Lore of the Twisted Wilds: ViletideDragon Ogor Shaggoth (180)- Lore of Dark Storms: Hailstorm10 x Bestigors (120)10 x Bestigors (120)10 x Gors (70)- Gor-Blades & Beastshields30 x Ungor Raiders (240)1 x Tuskgor Chariots (60)1 x Tuskgor Chariots (60)1 x Tuskgor Chariots (60)5 x Grashrak's Despoilers (0)Cygor (140)Ghorgon (160)Pestilent Throng (200)Doomblast Dirgehorn (50)Ravening Direflock (30)Wildfire Taurus (80)Total: 2000 / 2000Extra Command Points: 1Wounds: 141 Two drops -- does what I want it to.
