  1. Khorne may not have magic but they play a twist on the magic mechanic by having several methods of magic denial. Each army has their quirks to make them unique because if everyone had the same types of mechanics things would feel boring and homogeneous. Khorne is very punchy but makes up for lack of ranged with a more in depth prayer mechanic than most armies have. As for KO well they're just kinda trash and have been left behind but in theory they'd be able to take better advantage of being the only army with actual transports and have a sort of mobility theme that could complement doing speed builds as a list option as opposed to say a gunline list that would theoretically make up another popular build. Not every army needs to have the same mechanics or even treat core mechanics the same way, so long as they have something else that both makes up for that deviation and that other armies can build to play around that deviation.
  2. Balance should 100% come down to interactions between lists. IMO you should be able to build a lists around each unit or unit archetype in an army, this provides variety without resorting to the idea of "just throw whatever on the table".
  3. It always sucks to buy a unit only to learn they are basically unplayable due too their rules making them the least viable option in your army. I have belakor but have to take him as an ally if I want to use him in my slaves or slaanesh, so I just proxy him as a normal daemon prince to help justify the purchase.
  4. Imma throw my hat in the ring here. Balance as I see it is that every battletome be able to provide mechanics and units that allow players to make a competitive list, preferably several list possibilities to avoid one trick armies. Clever design would allow different viable lists that involve different units from that army so that each unit can find a place in a viable list. And by that I don't mean being able to throw whatever together and smack around a top tier DoK list, I mean the ability to create a competitive list that involves certain units while having the options of making equally viable lists that involve the other units from your army, with the main determining factor in the success of those lists coming down to how each list performs against whatever your opponent brought. Another point of good balance design would be for every army to have a fair chance against another army depending on list composition and not for the core rules or staple units of an army to give it an objective advantage over another army. Another popular point of debate is points costs, it's hard to determine accurate points costs for balancing especially when two armies may have very similar units at very different prices because the allegiance mechanics of those armies will affect those units differently. Large god-tier units like Archaon, Nagash and Alariel also make balance a tough challenge because while they should be powerful, you can't herohammer them and have them carry a game. You can build a list that heavily supports them so that they can do the heavy lifting but that can be countered by killing the supporting units, rather than having an innately powerful model on the board. It's always awkward to see models like nagash get wiped out by a unit of ghouls or whatever that's a fraction of his cost but if most units had a hard time hurting big models like him then big models would just become the new meta. I guess my overall point is that with so many armies and units it's going to be a challenge to balance them out while making each feel unique, it's why most strategy games usually only have 3-4 armies because the more unique mechanics and rulesets you have interacting the harder it gets to make an overall game balance.
  5. So I really want to run chosen, but really don't like the current sculpts for them. So now I have the bright idea of kitbashing my own. Problem is I'm stuck between two ideas: The first is to play off the greek theme shown off in some of the slaanesh artwork for mortals, my idea is to take Idoneth helmets and put them on the bodies of kairic acolytes, replacing the shields with marauder round shields and adding some slaanesh iconography here and there. The big axes carried by some of the acolytes already looks good for the chaos greatblades chosen are supposed to have so that's a plus. The second idea was somewhat inspired by Slaanesh's good old boy toy Sigvald and his mirror guard. This idea would involve taking some stormcast bodies, which i'm currently stuck between using liberators or the winged ones (I can't remember their name for the life of me) and replace the shoulders, heads, weapons and shields with leftover bits from my chaos knights, then paint them up to be as shiny and obnoxiously silver and gold as possible. Anyone have any preferences for which I should go with or have any other ideas to pitch in?
  6. Been wanting to do a heavy metal viking/spartan theme for my slaanesh/darkoath army. So far my idea involves making valkyrie lords and warqueens and I plan on making an attempt at making spartan themed chosen probably using kairic acolytes as the base. Chaos warriors are already viking enough and I bet the upcoming war cry and darkoath stuff will be as well so for the most part it's a waiting game to see how those end up looking and what if any mortals slaanesh will get before advancing the project.
  7. So I've finally tried taking my hosts of slaanesh to a tournament and pulled a pretty significant win streak of 3-0 with an 87 point total. You may ask what my secret to victory is, what crazy kill list I brought or how many daemonettes I threw at my opponent. But honestly my list was sub par and built around a joke strat that worked way better than it had any right to. I ran a single 30 stack of our favourite daemon ladies along with 2 units of hellstriders, a KoS, enrapturess, exalted chariot herald and had the bright idea of running a gaodsworn champions of ruin battalion consisting of 15 warriors with greatblades, a unit of 5 knights, exalted hero and a lord of chaos on foot. By taking advantage of the gryph feather charm, realm walker greaves and the allure of slaanesh I was able to use seeker host shenanigans to almost consistently turn 1 charge my opponents locking them in their own deployment zone for most of the game. Pair this with hellstriders and other means of ****** with my opponents hit rolls and spells I managed to hold down my opponents for the majority of each game and have my cheap heroes hold objectives. The godsworn battalion also helped deal with big threats such as when an ironjaws player brought a rogue idol to "inspire" his orruks. I had a real stroke of luck going against 3 armies that all have multi-wound models having faced ironjaws, stormcasts and gutbusters. The ironjaws put up a good fight and neither of us had much left on the table by the end, the gutbusters player had smashed his way clean through the left side of the table only to have lost due to my surprising survivability due to the near constant -1s and -2s to hit. The stormcast player I miraculously had managed to table thanks to sniping out some key pieces such as his lord ordinator early on. In a way I kind of hope hedonites fully embrace the theme of ****** with their opponents dice as a sort of mirror of tzeench's ability to mess with their own dice. Anyone else managed to pull wins recently in ways they hadn't expected to work out?
  8. Hey all, Back in January I started collecting a hosts of slaanesh army, and by collecting I mean converting my slaves to darkness as I was losing interest in our decisively indecisive chaos worshipers. Now that the newly renamed Hedonites and Darkoath are on their way, I'm all in on chaos this year (sorry nagash, looks like my LoN will be collecting dust for a bit) Being a recent college graduate money is still tight, so in a bout to save cash on some units that are overpriced or slaanesh forbid still cast in metal, I'm doing some kitbashing. To start I've made a base for my Lord of chaos so that I can run him as a mounted slaanesh lord. Unlike regular mounted lords who can be easily kitbashed from chaos knights, slaanesh lords like to be special and ride snakes on 60mm round bases. So after taking a spare horse and some bits leftover from a gorebeast, and a banner from a seekers kit, I whipped up a base and magnetized it so that I can slot my lord of chaos into it. It's nothing special or extravagant, but it get's the job done. My next project is going to be a warqueen. I do love the official model, but man is it overpriced for it's size and warscroll stats. I have similar feelings with the anniversary noise marine for 40k, gorgeous but doesn't justify it's price. So I've decided to make my own while including a twist that i wish was more common with slaves/darkoath by making her a Valkyrie. I intend to use Valkia as the base for the conversion for obvious reasons and having already had her for when I thought she'd make for a neat ally. I've already repainted her armour from red and brass to the steel and gold I'm using in my slaanesh/darkoath colour scheme, but I can't decide on what to do for the weapon or whether to keep slaupnir. I also intend to replace the head for one with hair but don't own many helmetless female models having a collection consisting of daemons, tin cans and corpses. So I'm looking for ideas on what would make for a good head if anyone has any suggestions. One of my local stores collects peoples loose bits so I may be able to find something worth using. I'm also considering a future conversion involving the shrinemaster from the chaos warshrine, I already have him based separately so I may convert him into a warchief or maybe some new priest if darkoath or slaanesh get new priest rules. Anyone else been doing any recent kitbashing? And what's been your reason/inspiration to attempt it?
  9. the second one looks better and the hair seems to follow the overall motion of the model better.
  10. Do it! Sign a pact with nagash for your soul in order to motivate you to meet the deadline for fear of becoming another expendable bedsheet! I've been tempted to try for armies on parade as well, I'll see what I can do for my Slaanesh/Slaves to darkness since It'll also motivate me to finish the kitbash ideas i had.
  11. I'd love to have more daemons but I'm working with all the daemons i got outside of some seekers. I do have 3 fiends that i will likely be summoning in, but I only own 30 daemonettes. I'm hoping the fiends and enrapturess get released in their own kits soon because I'd run more of them in a heartbeat. I know my warriors lack mobility which is why I'm running a pretender host to try to mitigate their low speed with some reroll potential and the warshrine for the 6+ after save, battleshock immunity and the charge rerolls.
  12. Hey all, I'm starting to feel confident enough with my slaanesh play to try taking them to tournaments and want some list feedback. I usually run LoN when I go to tournaments but wanted a change of pace. A lot of my army is admittedly converted or consistent of slaves to darkness units as they where my side army until January when I decided to switch them over to slaanesh along with me starting an emperors children army in 40k. I still don't have a whole lot of slaanesh unique stuff yet, I've even been proxying belakor as a keeper of secrets for the time being until the new kit releases since belakor can't technically join any army anyways. My current list is: Pretender host KoS (general, alure of slaanesh, invigorated by pain, gryph feather charm) Infernal enrapturess Daemonettes X 30 Hellstriders X 10 Exalted seeker chariot Warshrine Godsworn champions of ruin: Daemon prince (rockjaws) chaos warriors X 20(great weapons) exalted hero exalted hero exactly 2000 points of slaanesh (with the obvious 170pt cost of the battalion coming out of allies) Any thoughts?
  13. I won't deny that the speed and command ability allows for some tactical shenanigans, but dark temptations still feels like a useless rule that inflates the cost of what could otherwise be a cost effective unit or be replaced with a rule that's more in line with rules we're seeing in 2nd edition battletomes.
  14. Hey quick question, I've been playing around with the keeper of secrets for a while now and am I the only one that feels it's a limp noodle when compared to the other greater daemons? (I mean in a rules sense, slaanesh knows it's the worst of the 4 from a model perspective) No one ever accepts the dark temptations, because why would you accept something that can so easily shut down your heroes? And it falls short as both a wizard and beat stick compared to the others. It's only leg up is it's speed. Even the exalted version seems the weaker of it's peers though I admittedly have yet to try that one on the table.
  15. Probably something like a 5+ to stay, +1 for friendly slaughter priest within 12" or something like that
  16. Endless gadgets! Endless drones! No, no, no, i've got it. Endless Grudges!!!
  17. The power creep with endless spells was real before but now it's just crazy I would hope that at least these 'spells' cost a ton of blood tithe or require a priest to take friendly units out behind the shed to get them going.
  18. You're right I forgot beasts don't have the mortal keyword. Figure I should run a second gorghon instead?
  19. That'll be me if Darkoath and Slaanesh release close together. I'm already dreading having to buy a bunch of new kits.
  20. So I have an idea for a hosts list that makes use of the depraved drove to bring in some beasts to fill out our admittedly ****** poor range of options for mortals and battalions. My idea at the moment is: Shagoth Great bray shaman Infernal enrapturess KoS Herald on exalted chariot Lord of slaanesh on daemonic mount 2 units of 10 gors 1 unit of 20 gors 1 unit of 3 fiends gorghon warshrine I'm hoping that the shagoth, enraptures and KoS will earn me some quick depravity to bring in daemonettes. The fiends have handled big monsters pretty well for me in the past so i'm thinking of using them and the lord with a gryph feather charm to tie up beatsticks. The warshrine will help get charges off when i'm not rushing someone with an artefact and will help protect the beasts from battleshock and unnecessary wounds. I feel obligated to try out the gorghon because it seems like a nice distraction carnifex to throw at my opponent. The bray shaman can help the gors keep up and it's spell can help move enemy backline into charge range. All in all probably not the most optimal list but that's why i'm posting here for advice!
  21. Hey all, I've been talked into running slaanesh for a path to glory campaign and wanted to know if rules had been released for taking the infernal enrapturess in a warband? Would i just use the herald restrictions since it's a herald or does it have it's own warband rules yet?
  22. This fills me with happiness and rage. I'm a bit of a Vlad fanboy from the days of 7th and 8th edition WFB so i would like to see Vlad return as Vlad. But on the other hand given how Vlad and Karl where working together in the end times it wouldn't surprise me to see him come back as a stormcast. Sigmar probably retained at least some of Karl's memories from when he possessed him so it would make sense for him to pick out the souls of a bunch of badasses who fought beside him in the world that was and make the celestants or some other overblown stormcast title. Makes more sense for Vlad to be reforged than Settra anyways.
  23. A side note on the kids stories, I was fine with it until they mentioned they'd be involving necrons and chaos slaves. Neither of those are topics kids should be reading about IMO, maybe using comically evil villains like Skaven would be better, that way you could make a comedic relief villain that not only wouldn't feel out of place, but could even work in more mature literature. (it would be a pleasant surprise to see a model of a character from the kids books, might even be a neat way to get kids to start collecting as horrible as that sounds 😅) I find the limitations proposal to be interesting because where is the line drawn? They literally created entire sub races of Aelves by restoring souls devoured by Slaanesh! To me that should be the one thing an Aelf can't come back from. But hey I don't write the lore, I just read it and blow my money on the plastic that it's designed to sell.
  24. I really want a Gotrek adventure where he goes to duel nagash for Felix's soul so that he can bargain (or also duel) Sigmar to get Felix reforged so they can bro it up in the mortal realms like in the good old days. (what's the point of failing your oath over and over again if you can't do it with your bard best friend?)
  25. Well that's not a very hard claim to make when we only know 4 of the 9 so far. We've got two boot lickers and then someone who is literally facing eternal punishment and the other is the biggest traitor to have ever disgraced the pages of WFB/AoS (not that i dislike mannfred, I'm just a Vlad fanboy)
