  2. Sounds like a great event, just a shame it's a week before War in the Heartlands. We've all already got our tickets to that, and we're really looking forward to it, so doubt any of my local gaming group will be able to make it to this.

  3. So as I'm currently struggling to settle on an army going forwards, I've decided to re-visit my old mixed order army of Saint Martha's Vale for the next few months.

The idea is to use the dual threat of Morathi and Gotrek to.. well, hopefully wreck face.

    Allegiance: Order
    Realm: Shyish

    Leaders:
    Knight-Incantor
    - General
    - Trait: Inspiring
    - Artefact: Phoenix Stone

    Morathi, High Oracle of Khaine

    Battleline:
    Dryads x30
    Reavers x5
    Darkshards x20

    Other:
    Gotrek Gurnisson
    Prosecutors x3

    Endless Spells:
    Everblaze Comet

    Extra Command Point

    Total: 1990

Not taking a realm artefact as most events seem to be moving away from them. Reavers and Darkshards can help clear out chaff for Gotrek. Prosecutors are a 6-wound 4+ save screen for Gotrek. Dryads at the back, not running away because of the Incantor.

Hopefully it has a lot of smashing power, but also enough objective play.

    Interested to hear people's thoughts.

  4. Hey all. I recently tried getting into Tzeentch using a Phantasmagoria army, but didn't really enjoy how it played. So I'm not considering tweaking the army and using it as a Beasts of Chaos force, see if that suits me any better.

This is the list I would run. What do people think? Is it terrible or has it got merit?

    Allegiance: Beasts of Chaos

    Leaders:
    Tzaangor Shaman
    - General
Trait: Oracle or the Dark Tongue
    Spell: Tendrils of Atrophy

    Great Bray-Shaman
    Spell: Vicious Strangethorns
    Artefact: The Knowing Eye

    Grashrak Fellhoof
    Spell: Savage Dominion

    Battleline:
    Gors x30
    Ungors x10
    Ungors x10

    Others:
    Tzaangor Enlightened x9
    Tzaangor Skyfires x6
    Grashrak's Despoilers
    Ungor Raiders x10
    Ungor Raiders x10

    Endless Spells:
    Geminids of Uhl-Gysh
    Doomblast Dirgehorn

    Extra Command Point

    Total points: 1970

  5. Hey all, been struggling to find an army I enjoy playing recently, so I've decided to revisit and update my old mixed Order army from a couple of years ago. Based on what was in it, and how it plays, Living City seems the best fit.

Here's the list I'm thinking of running:

The Goode Folk of Saint Martha's Vale
    Allegiance: Cities of Sigmar
    Stronghold: Living City
    Realm: Ghyran

    Leaders:
    Sorceress

    - General
    - Druid of the Everspring Circle
    - Deepmire Cloak

    Battlemage
    - General's Adjutant
    - Cage of Thorns

    Knight-Incantor
    - Lifesurge

    Neave Blacktalon

    Battleline:
    Dryads x30

    Dreadspears x10
    - General's Retinue

    Darkshards x10

    Other:
    Aetherwings x3

    Freeguild Outriders x5

    Skaeth's Wild Hunt
    - Lifesurge

    Tree-Revenants x5

    Wild Riders x5

    Allies:
    Gotrek Gurnisson

    Endless Spells:
    Everblaze Comet

    Points: 2000

Trying to get a decent mix of casting (4 wizards), mobility (the mounted units), combat punch (Gotrek), and ability to play objectives (Dryads, Aetherwings, mounted units), and then Neave is there to take advantage of the flanking ability of Living City combined with the Command Ability, so she can come on and head straight for a backfield support character (8 attacks on the charge, 3+/3+/-1/2 against heroes should be able to dispatch any pesky minor heroes.)

What do people think? I'm not expecting to go 5-0, but it would be nice to have a decent chance in most games.

  6. @Stevewren In the list building achievements, should this say 1000 or 2000, looks like it hasn't been updated since last year?

"8. One of a Kind – Have no duplicate unit entries in either your 2000- or 2500-point list"

Also, "2. Battleline – Include 6 or more Battleline units" has increased from last year. 5 Battleline was difficult enough at 2500 points, but 6 at 2000 seems like there will be lists that do it naturally and no one else will be able to cram that in! (Especially only having 2 lists to get it in to, instead of 4 like last year.)

  7. I've got a 1000 point tournament coming up soon. Wondering what people's opinions on this list are?

    Realm: Shyish

    Ghoul King on Terrorgheist
    - General
    - Delusion: Crusading Army
    - Trait: Majestic Horror
    - Artefact: The Flayed Pennant

    Crypt-ghast Courtier
    - Sepulchral Plate

    Ghouls x10

    Ghouls x10

    Ghouls x10

    Ghoul Patrol

    Soulsnare Shackles
    Malevolent Maelstrom

    Total points: 1000

Turn one summon two units of Crypt Horrors near the King, then use the Pennant to try get them into combat. Probably start all 3 units of Ghouls on the board, to be able to start adding extra models in straight away.

I can't see a reason to run anything other than the Ethereal Amulet on a Frostlord, are there any other contenders for useful artefacts? The Thermalrider Cloak is tempting to guarantee the first-turn charge, but the 3+ invulnerable save is really hard to give up.

I quite like the idea of the realm artefact that gives +4" move and fly, just for the hilarious mental image of a flying Thundertusk ?

Depends if i'm running Huskard on stonehorn.

If yes deffinitly the 4 man unit, the ability to have them both fight first is huge.

    List i would use:

    Huskard on stonehorn

    4 mournfang

    Thundertusk beastriders

If i run a iceborn hunter and frost sabres, then yes the 4-6 man unit because that would be my main hammer unit.

Anything else and probs just 2x2

The list I'm running is a Frostlord on Thundertusk, 4 Mournfangs, 6 Yhetees.

So what I couldn't decide was whether I needed to split them in to 2x 2 Mournfangs and 2x 3 Yhetees, or run them as a 4 and a 6.

Let’s back off a bit and not crucify the guy for making a mistake that amounts to about less than 1% of the cost of a 2000 point list.  This is a game of plastic toy soldiers after all.

He made a mistake, honest enough. My question is, why was it not picked up by the event team in list checking?

Hi @Korvak welcome to the tribe!  I actually think 1000 point is a better level for BCR than 2000 points for a few reasons.  Your opponent can't usually fit in multiple big blocks of models, so you can often devastate their single key unit with your Stonehorn (if you had one).  Also your opponents don't often have room for enough buffing heroes to exploit their superior tech, or for Batallions to win the Artefacts arms race.  Basically we drag them down to our level and let the warscrolls do the talking.

    1) You are correct on Everwinter's Master, that is the go-to because it helps to slightly mitigate our terrible Allegiance Abilities.

    2) I don't understand this question, 2 packs of 6?  12 Mournfang is 960 points without a Leader and therefore is not legal at 1000 points?

    3) Interesting one.  I'd make him Ethereal personally. if you can get a wizard in there especially.  Very few armies will have enough MW firepower to one shot you with Mortals alone, and you do have healing, so I'd say most games it's the death by a thousand cuts that would be the main risk you'd need to mitigate?

    Thanks for the advice!

I meant to say two packs of two, I've edited it now. Clearly that's what happens when you try and type a post at 6 in the morning on the way to work, lol.

The Frostlord having a 3+ save that ignores modifiers definitely sounds appealing! Guess that settles where my tribe will be from then!

  12. So I've got a 1000 point local event coming up and I'm contemplating picking up a small BCR force for it, as I've always wanted to play them. I know they're not going to be super competitive at 1k, but hopefully they'll still be fun.

I've always loved the Thundertusk model, so even though it's not as survivable as the Stonehorn, I'll be putting my general on one. This is the list I'm planning on running:

    Frost Lord on Thundertusk
    Trait: Everwinter's Master

    4 Mournfang Riders

    3 Icefall Yhetees

    3 Icefall Yhetees

    Questions I have are:

Everwinter's Master seems an obvious choice for the general's trait, or is there something that I've missed?

Is there any reason not to run the Mournfangs as two packs of six, so I can potentially go after more objectives?

Of the realm artefacts, which do we think is the most useful on the Frostlord: the one that lets you ignore modifiers to saves, or the one that gives the 4+ save against mortal wounds (or something else I've missed altogether?)

While one result does not make a trend, it does seem to me that it shows that while Beastclaw Raiders may have some issues - they are not giant ones.  It looks like the primary keys to success there was the +1 to hit from the formation and the once-per-game extra pile in.  Then there was an allies wizard and the Cogs spell.  While those are all good things, nothing in that is truly out of control or over the top.

To me that says that whenever GW issues a new book it won't take a whole lot to put Beastclaw back on the map.  No telling when that might be though.

One thing that struck me though is that I am not sure this list is exactly legal.  My understanding was that formations that use allies let you take those allies without using up the allotted point costs for allies, but the units are still treated as allies.  That would mean that you would still need to abide by the 1:4 unit ratio for allies and this list does not do that.  I hope I am wrong on that count, but I saw that a number of battalions had ended up on the wrong side of that rule and were not very valid anymore.

Battalion Warscrolls have the allegiance listed on them, and all units taken as part of that warscroll gain that allegiance.

  14. Hey all!

I've got a 1000 point event coming up soon and I'd like to try out SCE at it.

Never played them before, so looking for help building a decent list!

The only must haves in the army are a Lord-Ordinator and 2 Ballistas.

Thinking Anvils of the Heldenhammer for the Stormhost, to get an extra shot out of one of the Ballistas each turn.

Other than that, there's 660 points available to play with.

So what would you take? Judicators or Liberators? Squeeze in a Lord-Arcanum to unlock the Sequitors as Battleline?

One of my main concerns is the lack of boots on the ground at 1k.

Looking forward to hearing peoples inputs!

  15. Hey all,

My local store has a 1000 point tournament coming up soon and I'm contemplating taking Blades of Khorne (my main army is Everchosen, which isn't all that great at 1k.)

I've read through all 16 pages of this thread, and came up with this list. I'm not sure if it's ridiculous enough to work, or just plain ridiculous.
The idea is to just jam forward with a sea of bodies in small sized units, try and wrack up Tithe points and get to summoning.
Would love to know people's thoughts!

The awesome thing about that box is that if you magnetise your Skyfires/enlightened, the amount of combinations and battalions possible in there is huge. At this point, literally nothing is bad in that box.

As for the list, Tzaangors tend to underperform when you only play 10, as they get bonus attacks the bigger the unit becomes.

I played a 1k point version of that list for a while, I was too new to have success with it but I remember Alter-Kin being very underwhelming.

Alter-kin does seem like it'll be somewhat hit and miss, but figured it's only 80pts in effect (free command point), and gets an extra artefact. I'd like to run the full 20 Tzaangors, but figured the points were better spent on the Curseling, as one wizard on his own didn't feel like enough?

Could always drop the battalion and pick up 80 points worth of Endless Spells, and still get the command point (don't want to risk getting alpha-struck and losing any Skyfires.)

  17. Hey all, new to Tzeentch here. Got an upcoming local 1250 point tournament, and am contemplating picking up the Battleforce box to start a Tzeentch army.
Looking for feedback on this list, do people think it would perform well in matched play?

    Alter-kin Coven - 1250 points - Realm: Hysh

    Curseling, Eye of Tzeentch
    General
    Trait: Magical Supremacy
    Spell: Bolt of Tzeentch

    Kairic Acolytes x20

    Tzaangors x10

    Tzaangor Skyfires x6

    Alter-kin Coven Battalion

    1250 points exactly.
