  1. The app and the warscroll say 5, so it's 5. I wouldn't trust the wound value on warscroll builder 👍
  2. Edit- disregard this, I wasn't aware that the rule was something specific to Nagash only. Thanks Pennydude. It seems that you can now cast arcane bolt as many times as you like, and you can even hold the spell until you are in combat and then do bonus damage with it. It makes me more optimistic about Alarielle, she can potentially cast it three times, charge, cause impact damage then 3d3 mortals from arcane bolt and then next turn retreat/charge after healing 2d6. Although the wording below says you choose any one phase so not sure if you can trigger all three at the start of the combat phase or not.
  3. That is Kroak's old old scroll from before the new book. Really interesting, I'd love to see his spells to see how those are affected. Really good point on him not being able to use BWV any more but I get the feeling that model is getting phased out anyway. I don't know how I feel about that summoning ability. It feels like it might be a bit oppressive over the course of a game. The 'falls asleep' rule is kind of fun but I'm intrigued to know if when he falls asleep and generates CCP if coalesced can do anything with them. I wouldn't have thought so but the fact that it goes to the trouble of spelling that out makes me curious.
  4. I got six transparent 12" discs for £20 including postage by getting them made at https://www.perspexsheet.uk/ They've been really good so far, I didn't realise how much faster/easier that would make planning around objectives until I played with them. Only thing they need is something adding to mark the centre point imo.
  5. I've had a look through and found that ruling which made me wonder about Drycha. It's on page 4 of the core rules FAQ (https://www.warhammer-community.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/8f9bd00c.pdf). The wording is: "RESERVES Q: Can models set up in reserve (in the Celestial Realm, for example) cast spells, or use abilities or command abilities to affect other units? A: No. Only models deployed on the battlefield can cast spells, or use abilities or command abilities to affect other units." I'm not sure if this is different to the original wording that I saw (I think it was older), as this instance mentions that a model cannot use abilities to affect other units and Drycha's ability is just affecting herself. So I assume that it wouldn't be an issue, unless anyone else has a different interpretation?
  6. Yes, very true. I'd much rather have her alive! I suppose that my question is poorly worded in that regard as I just want to know whether when I deploy her from the roots if her damage is impacted at all. Also I just wanted to say, that as a long time lurker I always appreciate your posts as they frequently present very objective and analytical points that I've found useful in making my list building choices and how I approach the army. Cheers
  7. I seem to recall in a designer's commentary at some point they put a rule in to say that if a model isn't in the table it's rules don't take effect. I'm struggling to find it now but I remember it as it broke Shadow strike ripperdactyls for awhile, as when they were deployed off the table then they wouldn't get to drop a blot toad and it got further errata to fix it. I'll have to have a trawl through the FAQs at some point and see if I can find it. I've been thinking with the new tzeentch how I'd want to have drycha off the board on turn 1 due to her squishiness, however if that means sacrificing a lot of damage potential in round one then that's a tougher proposition.
  8. Hey guys, looking forward to finally getting some games in with the 'new' battle tome but I have a quick rules question. If I deploy Drycha off the table in the realm roots at the start of the game then does that mean that I don't get to enhance one of her attack profiles at the start of the first battle round?
  9. How did you find soulslice shards, I assume that you took it for the depravity generation or was it also a bit of tech? I see most people take progeny of damnation. Did the hellstriders work well in a group of ten, again I assume that they were there to be cheap and mobile? Also interested in Hunter supreme, I keep thinking about taking it instead of speed chaser or thrill seeker as the cloak adds lots of mobility already. Did it even out your damage or did you miss the extra utility from some of the other traits?
  10. It's not a rule per se but a guideline offered by GW in the core rules (see image). Definitely my least favourite thing with playing Sylvaneth is having to deal with the meta game of how much terrain goes on a table. Since there's nothing from GW apart from the aforementioned quote it can be a bit of a grey area. That's why I think that it's a bit of a shame that they just kind of replaced the model and tidied up the old rules of Wyldwoods rather than giving us one super Wyldwood. I think there's a few different ways that could've been done but it's a moot point now. Need to work with what we've got which is still good.
  11. You can select Alarielle as your general but she doesn't get the command trait as per designers commentary. https://imgur.com/a/QwLx1eK
  12. Let's say that I'm playing Sylvaneth with one of the mega battalions that lets me one drop my army, however I want to deploy a unit from the battalion off the table using the forest spirits allegiance ability, is the lowest number of drops that I can make one or two? The wording is "Instead of setting up sylvaneth unit or battalion, you can place it to one side and say that it is set up as part of your army in a hidden enclave". The same would go for Seraphon Ripperdactyls in a shadow strike battalion that can start the battle "in the air", is it a separate deployment from the rest of the battalion if you drop the rest of the battalion all at once on the table? Thanks
  13. Hey Milo, I'd recommend you'd listen to the following Podcast. It covers Sylvaneth in some depth so I'd listen to the whole thing as it's gold but if you just want to skip to where they discuss Dreadwood, go to about 1 hour, 11 minutes in. It's principally an alpha strike list but can be played defensively also. https://soundcloud.com/user-583885206/episode-17-bonus-episode-aos-coach-faction-focus-sylvaneth
  14. Hey guys, I'm going to be playing in a small tournament next weekend and I'm looking for some advice. My opponents are likely to be: FEC, Stormcast, Skaven (stormfiend heavy list), Khorne and LoN. Normally I'd play a Harvestboon list and launch Durthu at any major threats (cogs+warsinger+harvestboon for +4 charge and equip him with ghyrstrike), however the FEC and Khorne (mostly FEC) make me nervous about getting too close and I'm wondering if I'd be better off switching to Gnarlroot for more ranged power? The FEC is a Gristlegore list so his general will fight first, so unless I take Doppelganger cloak and hope that I get lucky I can't see it working out. The Khorne is bloodthirster heavy so with the exception of LoN all of my opponents will be fielding quite elite units so I think I'd do best to prepare for that, any tips? For anti horde I know that there are a few options (Drycha, Alarielle's Metamorphorsis, dwellers below & branchwych bomb) but I struggle for anti elite except for scythe equipped Kurnoth. I have most models barring Drycha and the base Treelord so could play Dreadwood, Harvestboon, Winterleaf (no phoenix) or Gnarlroot quite comfortably. I've put a few of my lists on the imgur below with the list that I'm favouring being the Gnarlroot with an Umbral spellportal. What would you guys take? I don't yet know the battleplans or realms so can't give any info on those sorry. Sample lists: https://imgur.com/a/QsKvxV9
