  1. Right now Errant Knights don't have anything on Freeguild Greatswords and yet they are the same price. And Cities of Sigmar has several ways to support them as well so I don't think its place in the rest of the army is enough of a reason for it either. If you hadn't written this: "...most of the units will probably end up ~10-20 points higher than they should be..." I would likeliy mention a few more. On the topic of that model/unit distinction. It is easy enough to understand, sure. But if we go into "well, technically..." mentality, there could be a big difference. I added a paint image of knights fighting some randoms. Right now lance shouldn't work. (Assume there are more knights behind the line) But the line is this: "If exactly 3 models from a friendly BRETONNIA unit are within 1" of an enemy model" In the added image, there are exactly 3 knight models that are within 1" of that marked enemy model. The lance rule technically works here. Changing it to "unit" should solve the issue. Of course, anyone that says lance formation works in this case would have trouble finding opponents in the future, but it is still better to not give a chance I think. My damsel on pegasus is also kitbashed and I don't remember/know whether there was ever such a model. By the way, I just realized the Restoration spell on pegasus knights? Too op. Though I would not want it limited to 1-3 wounds either. That's too weak.
  2. I like the direction you are taking with this. The virtue system is a nice idea. The lance formation should be a lot harder to use in AOS but I think it is cool to see. I am using almost the same models for the two standard knight types so I can get behind making one redundant. And I love that The Green Knight is a very scary guy and not just a slightly bretonnian lord+. Never used battle pilgrims and never saw their charm so meh to that. Not going into points since you already said they are just estimates, but right now I can see three points to mention. -Field trebutched seems a bit too tough. I would imagine a group of 15-20 man-at-arms should win againts it in melee. Not currently though. I mean I haven't done the math but 10 of them lose decisively. Maybe you could make it squishier but give it a resistance againts ranged attacks, so that the crew is actually easy to kill once you reach them, but the machine serves as a cover so they are hard to take down from afar. -Bowmen and man-at-arms are very weak and yes that is how it should be. But I think there needs to be some way to make them somewhat stronger. One of the heroes giving a +1 to hit aura or something maybe. I already like full knight armies and the peasants being useless are not helping their case. -Damsel on pegasus? Prophetess on pegasus was a thing. Probably a typo: Right now Lance formation reads, "3 models from a friendly BRETONNIA unit are within 1" of an enemy model". That last word should be unit I think.
  3. The state Bretonnians were in at the end of End Times was very different from how they were before so I think a Breton faction in AOS would be unlike the Bretons we know. Every grail knight ever turned into an immortal demigod knight protecting the pocket world, even characters such as Landuin who was known as the greatest knight back when Gilles was alive. Sons of Breton were supposed to be called forth only when they were really needed but they didn't appear in End Times, so saying they were in reserves for the future protection of the pocket realm would be decent enough explanation. The pocket world was created for elves technically and if I remember right, at the end both some elves and some bretons were brought there. And also, Lady was dead. In short, a rational continuation of Bretons in AOS should be a new faction altogether. But since you called them "mini-battletomes" I guess you wouldn't want to go too deep into creating new lore. I assume the goal is making Breton models function as a playable faction in AOS games. So old Breton models with new rules. If that is so then Bretons basically have three themes: Charging cavalry, chivalry and The Lady. Three allegiance abilities built around these three would be my "must haves". Basic ideas for three abilities: 1: When a knight hero finishes its charge move next to an enemy unit, any knight units that also end their charge moves next to the same enemy unit get bonuses. 2: Any knight hero (and maybe knight units) attacking an enemy hero or monster get bonuses. 3: All units have some defensive bonus that is lost when that unit retreats. Bonus point: There are many foot knight models in the market and many old Breton players got some, so rules for foot knights would be a "near-must-have".
  4. I think as long as there are people willing to work on it, the project does not need to stop. I do not know how large the original team was, or how many are still onboard but there seems to be at least two people still around. if anyone decides to continue the project, I would like to help. C'mon knights, let's rally and push forward!
  5. Any news yet? Just saying "project is not dead" or "it is dead" counts as news too.
  6. Hello everyone. I recently tried my first Meeting Engagement game with my Bretons (a weird game which ended with my rearguard and main body being completely annihilated but my spearhead taking zero casualties. Anyway...) I though a tool to help prepare meeting engagement army lists for our Bretons would be useful. So I whipped up something simple. Once again, it is just an excel file, but I think it might prove useful. How to use: 1)Edit the blues, save the file. 2)Copy the file if you want to save multiple armies. I'm open to any suggestions, questions, etc. For the Lady! Breton Meeting Engagement Army List Helper.xlsx
  7. Hello. This is a long topic, so you might not have seen it but there is a post by Henin on page 8 that includes the lore written so far. (I didn't want to quote it since it is very long.) Alternative lore explanations are great, but I think it might be a better idea to build up on what has already been written.
  8. That was just a random example, the first way of naming different breeds that popped in my mind. The names, locations and traits would of course be different, more fitting for the new lore. Could change based on the realm or the specific brotherhood or something completely different. That was what I was thinking too. In the last page, I suggested giving, positive mount traits to heroes and traits that has both positive and negative effects to troops. I definitely agree that it should be balanced. I already have trouble finding anyone to play with just because it is unofficial.
  9. When only heroes get mount traits, it feels like the mounts of the army are pretty much standard and that the heroes get the rare, special ones from among them. If all mounted units get various mount traits, it would feel more like the army has multiple different breeds of mounts and different units might be using different breeds of mounts for different purposes. Like I would expect from an army where mounts are very important. Random examples: 1."Our horses come from the north". => It just means they have horses and all of them similar to each other. Nothing special. Not Breton. 2."Our northern horses are tough, southern horses are nimble, western are intelligent, eastern are lucky." => It seems like horses are an integral part of their society, so they are everywhere, Feels Breton. Hope it is clearer now.
  10. Bretonnia is the mounted faction, so just getting simple mount traits would be a waste. More customization or exotic options would be good. If they are fitting to the lore, even better. An idea: Heroes get simple mount traits: Energetic horse (+2 move, +2 charge), Tough horse (+1 wound), Mystic horse (ignore harmful spell at 5 or 6 of a d6), etc. But all mounted troops also get mount traits. Similar to heroes but for the sake of balance, all options get detrimental affects: Energetic horse (+2 move, +2 charge but has to try to charge if enemy is closer than 9"), Tough horse (+1 wound but only 8" move), Mystic horse ignore harmful or beneficial spell at 5 or 6 of a d6). This way, the point of the entire army being masters of mounted combat would be emphasized, I think.
  11. I haven't tested anything, but just looking at the pdfs: 1-Page 53 of Malign Sorcery has this sentence: "An endless spell model cannot be moved unless it is a predatory endless spell" Going by this, either Great White Hart will be an exception or it will have to stay still except for its 'Skittish Instincts'. 2-Sons of Breton hit even less than Quicksilver Swords(Universal and just 20pts). Can't say anything for balance since again, I haven't tested but I wouldn't have expected ancient magical knights to be this weak.
  12. I think The Green Knight needs something right now. All other heroes have certain roles but all he has is that he is hard to kill. And even with his skills, with 5 wounds and 4+ save, he can sometimes die quite easily. I think maybe an aura -1 bravery debuff might work, it would make him a more primary target, reinforcing his role as a tank. What do you think?
  13. I think this is an indicator that this community based rules set is needed. The official breton rules and points are between weak and trash.
  14. I haven't had the chance to try them as I actually have no archer models, but this idea of Forester and Rangers, aka. Ragged Brotherhood seems great. Useful, but doesn't seem OP. However there seems to be something wrong in Forester's command ability. It says: "...target PEASANTRY units from your army that are wholly within 12"..." It looks like we can target multiple units, which would make the 'Coordinated Strike' part of The Ragged Brotherhood redundant: "...all units in The Ragged Brotherhood gain the benefits, while wholly within 12..." I'm assuming Forester's ability was meant to be used on a single unit, is that correct? And The Returned are now, how Grail Knights needed to be before. Not just Knights+1, but each of them a great warrior. Possibly my favourite part of the battletome. Also, I saw people saying they didn't like the idea of Demigryphs in a Bretonnian army, and I agree. But what happened to The Great White Hart and Sons of Breton? Where they scrapped because of lore or rules?
  15. Hello Noble Knights. As you know, we cannot use Azyr or Warscroll Builder to build our Breton lists. Which means we need a new tool. I present to you: Breton Army List Helper! That is to say, my computer skill level prevents me from coding a unique tool, so this is just an Excell file, but it should still prove useful. You can prepare and save up to four army lists with it. (Just copy the file if you want to save more.) An example arrmy is included in the file to show you how a saved army looks like. You can change it of course. Any cells you are not supposed to change have been locked to prevent accidents, but they can be unlocked without a password or anything. For any suggestions, criticisms, questions or such, please pm me. Let's not bloat this topic. Unless you want public opinion of course. e.g: The file is easily updatable since it relies on functions. I plan on updating it for any new batteltome versions. For the foreseeable future at least. For the Lady! Breton Army List Helper 0.6.xlsx Breton Army List Helper Usage.txt
