  1. My initial guess is there will probably be a hero version, or a way to give the hero keyword, to any of the Mega-Gargant types. As for roles, my initial suspicion is that the Gate-Crusher will be geared for high damage vs single targets, the War-Stomper will have rules for fighting horde units (stomps and jump up & down attacks), and the Kraken-Eater will be the "weird" one that has more utility type abilities. I think they will probably have a base-line shared weapon profile and then each gets specific additional attacks. Most likely there will be a shared "swing with club" style attack - since every one of these models is wielding some sort of club/flail. When the Giants had randomized attacks in Warhammer Fantasy the "Swing with Club" attack was the most common result and it was one of the few attacks that was shared across both the small & big target attack tables. I also still predict that we will see a number of the old giant random attacks return on the various Mega Gargants as either weapons on the profile or special abilities.
  2. It does not look like a fireball or artillery projectile that he is carrying in his hand to me. Look at his foot in the picture. It appears that he is stepping through/on burning rubble of some sort (most likely some village or city he is plundering). I am guessing that what is in his hand in the picture is just a big handful of burning ruins he has scooped up - most likely to throw at someone. I expect we will see some of these guys with ranged attacks and they will probably simply be the giants tossing items they can simply pick up. The Bonegrinder already does this with the "hurled boulder" attack. I always assumed that attack just represented the gargant bending over, picking up a big rock (massive boulder to us), and hurling it at his enemies. I would expect any ranged attacks for Mega Gargants to be a similar idea and just them tossing random (massive) detritus they just scoop up.
  3. For those interested in Aleguzzler conversions - a good source of some alternate body parts is the Hordes Trollblood range from Privateer Press. The DireTrolls have different body proportions to the Aleguzzlers, but they have similarly sized torsos and feet. They tend towards big bellies as well, but they have a heavily muscled physique similar to the Mega-Gargants. If you wanted to make some aleguzzler sized gargants with different musculature then that is a good range to snag some bits from. They also work well as conversion parts for Dankhold Troggoths & Trogboss conversions. I figured I would mention it for anyone who is thinking of making a number of conversions for this army.
  4. That is also from the Beastgrave terrain set - along with the huge skull the Bonegrinder has for a helmet. That kit has a few really tasty bits in it. I linked the product in the GW store in a previous post. I hope they come back and show more of his Gargant conversions when he is further along. I am really curious what his plans for the Colossal Squig are.
  5. You would be surprised at how difficult it was to find a skull big enough to work as a helmet for a big monster like a Rogue Idol or a Bonegrinder. I looked through pretty much all of the GW standard model range, a number of alternate model ranges, and I started searching out things like jewelry or fish-tank scenery to get a dragon/monster skull. In the end, I used the same one that was used for the Bonegrinder - which comes from the Beastgrave terrain box: https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/WHU-Beastgrave-Primal-Lair-2019
  6. I did the same thing for a second Rogue Idol I have been working on that I want themed more for Bonesplitterz. The Beastgrave terrain box has a number of really good bits in it. I really liked the gargant blowing the horn. That is a great conversion and use of parts from the beasts of chaos endless spell box.
  7. Today's community article that showcases Rich Dando's gargant force was excellent. There are so many good, and relatively simple, gargant conversions that it really shows how creative you can get with a simple kit. I'll be stealing a lot of ideas from there. The Bonegrinder conversions are good also. If you can do that much with the Aleguzzler kit and a handful of simple bits then imagine what can be done with the mega-gargant kit.
  8. I am starting to explore various models for something like that. Right now I am considering doing something similar with models such as the Ultraforge & Mantic giants as alternate torsos for the Mega-Gargants. I’ll most likely do something like that as well for more Aleguzzler also. I’ll probably buy a few of those giant models that I have wanted an excuse to get for a while now. But I won’t start these projects until I can look at the book and figure out how many of the different gargants I would be interested in using. I will also buy at least one kit of each type of gargant to assemble normally then extras for conversions and parts. My goal is fun modeling projects and visual variety - not cost savings.
  9. Both are massive and I would be happy with either of them. I'd actually hope he is the smaller version as that is closer to the scale of multiple 3rd party models. I'd like to use other models in order to convert some alternates of the various types. A bunch of the 3rd party models have different body poses and I am thinking about using them as the core and then layer parts from this giant kit to make them all visually match more.
  10. I think the bottom picture is the closest one. That seems to line up the most with the original silhouette that GW posted of the Mega-gargant and aleguzzler side by side. I'm inclined to agree with @RonnPhan that the picture with the height values is wrong. That picture puts the mega-gargant at 8" - which is seriously huge. The standard aleguzzler is 110mm or 4.3" tall. Given the side by side that GW provided I am guessing that the mega-gargant will be somewhere between 6.5" - 7.5" tall - which is still absolutely massive.
  11. First, what is wrong with putting a hat on a hat? I think hats should be able to wear their own hats. I too have been considering putting one into my Troll army. I have been considering converting 1-2 Bonegrinders for a Gloomspite Troggoth army. I have an unfinished Mountain King model and an unopened Winter King model from my old Trollblood army for Hordes that I will likely not ever play again. But I really like those models and I want to repurpose them. I thought they would make for cool massive trolls and I could use the Bonegrinder warscroll for them. I put that project on hold a while ago when the rumors of an all giant force initially came out. Now I am thinking that I will probably go ahead with those projects after the book comes out and I can figure out what gargant ally/mercenary would be the most fun to use in a Troggoth force.
  12. I want an army with a bunch of giant insects and I don't care what the little guys in the army look like - bug men would be cool. I want to see all sorts of creepy bug monsters - giant beetles, ants, praying mantis, wasps, centipedes, scorpions, etc. That would be awesome. But no cockroaches. Those things are horribly disgusting and should be eradicated from the mortal realms (and chaos realms) entirely. Even nurgle thinks those things are gross and does not like them.
  13. Orcs don't have any terrain. Orruk Warclans does not have a terrain piece for Bonesplitterz, Ironjawz, or Big Waaagh. The Ogors terrain is a fun model (nice conversion potential) but pretty tacked on to that army as it is just a cook-pot next to a canopy. I'm sure that Gargants could make something if they wanted to. I don't think they are too dumb to be able to make basic stuff. However, they don't appear to be civilized to the point where they have any industry. And if you look at all of the new models they retain the theme that the Gargants weapons & clothing are all cobbled together from looted scraps. These guys are big and honestly they don't appear to have any real need for things like forged weapons & armor - or even decent clothing. It seems to me that they probably get along just fine with a cobbled together stick to smash stuff.
  14. I am on the fence about getting a Bonegrinder model. I kinda want it from a collector/completionist standpoint - but I would probably also convert it up to be more interesting and add a bunch of details to it. I could also probably convert a larger scale model, one of the new mega-gargants, or even an action-figure toy. Currently the decision is easy to make given that the Bonegrinder is out of stock in the US and I find it hard to justify their asking price for such a bland model.
  15. So looking at the height chart it lists the Mega-Gargants at 8". The Forgeworld Bonegrinder model is roughly 9" tall to the top of the head - which puts it equal with the top of Nagash's staff in the picture. Given that these models are very close to the Bonegrinder in height I would not be surprised if Forgeworld discontinues it. It is worth mentioning that the Mantic giant & frost-giant models are about 7.5" tall and the Heresy giant (mucklegeet) is about 7" tall. So those are roughly the right size to use as mega-gargant variants. Also for comparison - the Aleguzzler is about 110mm tall - so slightly over 4".
  16. Pack animals as terrain is an interesting concept. However, I doubt GW would introduce creatures as terrain. I am all for big monster kits so I would probably buy it if they make it.
  17. If they get a terrain kit or endless spells then I will happily purchase them. However, this seems to me like an army where those would be an odd fit. None of the endless spell concepts that I have heard people mention feel like they would really fit the army well to me and I cannot think of any good ideas myself. The same goes for terrain. These guys seem more like they would be more interested in smashing stuff than making it. I like terrain when it fits with the army. I honestly cannot think of a good concept for terrain for giants. I mean, just look at how patchwork and poor the clothing is for all of the giants. If they cannot be bothered to make a functioning pair of pants or shoes then I highly doubt they are putting effort into building much else.
  18. Fixed that for you. We all know what you really meant to say.
  19. The silhouette for the plague furnace to the left of the warstomper gargant is cracking me up. Could they have picked a worse model to use as a silhouette?
  20. I think they will be cheaper than this. The Bonegrinder costs 400 points and I don't see them making the new gargants nastier than that warscroll. Unless they have really crazy rules concerning how this army interacts with objectives then the army would not really function with all of the models being super expensive. You would barely have enough models to compete with objectives, no room to sustain losses, and you would not be able to compete well on scenarios that require heroes/wizards/artifacts. I am guessing that there is going to be tiers for the big models with probably a cheap version around 300 points and more expensive versions (or heroes) going to a bit higher. The Aleguzzler I am guessing will become a couple warscroll versions and they will probably stay cheap and form the core of the army.
  21. I would like them to do so, but bear in mind that not all armies have named heroes. For example, there are no named Ogor characters aside from the Hunter from the Underworlds warband. Having said that, new armies that come with a release wave of a few kits have always had a named character so far. The only armies that have launched without named characters are armies that never got any new model releases (outside of maybe a 2-army box character) such as Bonesplitterz and Ogors. I still think there are things for this army that we have not seen. Either the mega-gargant kit builds more than the 3 variants we have seen so far (or maybe those have other weapon options), there are new kits we have not seen that have a few possible builds, the aleguzzler kit will be split into multiple warscrolls, or any combination of the above. If we assume that they don't split the Aleguzzler into multiple warscrolls and that we have seen all of the new models - then this is an army composed of just 4 warscrolls. I just don't think GW will put out a dedicated army book for a force that limited. Spiderfang only has 3 model kits (that includes the resin boss on spider) but they split that into 8 warscrolls and still put the army as part of Gloomspite. If this was going to be a 4 warscroll army then it feels more like something that should have been introduced in White Dwarf or the General's Handbook and then turned into a full army book later on when they could add another plastic kit or two. I think GW has mainly given us a teaser but that they still have not spoiled everything.
  22. I don't think GW will do this for AoS. They really don't seem to put warscrolls into the game that do not have a model. I saw where in the preview that suggests we may have seen all of the new kits - but the verbage did not seem to outright state that directly. If these are the only new kits then I can deal with that since the kit is fantastic, but I would not rule out another kit or two being spoiled soon.
  23. They can put after saves in for whatever reason they want - and it tends to be a fairly simple and common way for them to make units durable. Daughters of Khaine, Bonesplitters, and Fyreslayers are all pretty much naked and have after-saves as their main toughness mechanism. So we currently know that this will be a low model count army - but we currently don't really know exactly how low that is. We don't know the point value of the mega-gargants or what the aleguzzler will be. We don't know if Aleguzzler will be a single warscroll or if it will get split to multiples (at this point my guess is multiples unless they preview more new kits). We have no idea if smaller gargants will be available in units (like the Dankhold) or as singles. So all we can do is look at other low model-count armies and sort of guess. But prognosticating is fun so lets do it. So if we look at some existing low model-count elite armies there is a pattern that they seem to all have some abilities to increase toughness. Ogors have a 5+ after-save on Stonehorns and a number of ways to heal. Lizardmen all-dino armies have a combination of a universal -1 damage rule and a variety of ways to increase armor. And Troggoths use a combination of after-saves, to-hit debuffs, and healing. Other mechanisms for increased toughness in the game are rend-reduction and increased wound counts. I can legitimately see an argument for using most of these for gargant toughness. You could give them increased armor saves and/or after-saves and say that gargants have very tough skin, are generally hard to injure, and/or have a high pain threshold and don't notice most wounds. You could use those same justifications to give them increased wounds or rend-reductions. Giants are the one Warhammer monster that I can think of that has always had the ability to outright eat enemy models on the table (aside from some Forgeworld monsters such as the Mammoth) and they could make that more of a common rule that leads into a healing ability. You could even justify to-hit debuffs as gargants being extremely foul-smelling and gross which is roughly the same reason that Fellwater Troggoths have that ability. They could even tie durability to some sort of triggered special abilities. For example, Giants have always had the unique attack "yell and bawl" which caused the giant to outright win a combat without anyone fighting as the Giant just screams at the top of his lungs into the face of the attacker and stuns them. They could put that ability back in and cause it to disrupt select enemies or give some sort of toughness buff onto the gargant or within a close bubble. They could do a whole bunch of things and pretty easily justify any of it with fluff if they wanted to. From my perspective it has been hard to guess how GW will implement things because they have used fairly unique methods for each army so far. My guess is that Sons of Behemat will be a pretty unique army - especially if they don't put out more kits than what has been shown. I think this army is going to play fairly differently than the others we have seen because it will be the first army designed solely around big monsters - rather than armies that have a niche big-monster army build.
  24. I don't think there is too much to worry about here. So much of what makes things good, mediocre, or just plain bad has to do with Allegiance Abilities in Age of Sigmar. My guess is that Giants taken as a generic merc will probably either be like other mercenary choices from Forbidden Power and not have any specific allegiance abilities or else they will make some sort of mercenary ability that applies to them. Big monsters tend to be at somewhat of a disadvantage much of the time in AoS. When they are excellent it is often because they are a hero and can get extra abilities such as mount traits, command abilities, magic artifacts, etc. Other times it is because they can get buffs from other friendly models (usually keyword/allegiance restricted). I expect that a lot of what will make these guys great as an army is going to be due to allegiance abilities. Having said that, I do think there will be a few armies where a mercenary gargant would be a good choice. I just don't expect those armies will be the most common.
  25. Speaking of Giant models from various companies - I was going to put together a list of the ones that I knew about but it seems they have already done that over at the 9th age. Most of the ones I am aware of can be found on these 2 pages: https://www.the-ninth-age.com/community/lexicon/index.php?entry/2243-miniatures-marauding-giant/ https://www.the-ninth-age.com/community/lexicon/index.php?entry/1488-miniatures-giant/ Black Scorpion Miniatures used to make a big pirate giant armed with an anchor but it does not appear to be currently available on their website. Hopefully they just ran out of stock as opposed to discontinuing the model.
