The problem with Carnosaurs is rend, and swinginess.

The clawed forelimbs start at 2 attacks with a 3+/3+/-/2 profile.  This is... fine... but not really inspiring.  However, the kicker is the massive Jaws, which is 3 attacks at a 4+/3+/-1/* (starting at 5).  Sure, if everything goes through, the carnosaur is dealing 19 damage before any rider gets into this.

But then you look at the numbers, and you see that the carnosaur has an AVERAGE of 6.78 damage before saves.  Throw him at a 3+ save?  Average of 3 damage.  But lets take an old blood.  For 270 points you are getting an average of 11.78 damage before saves on a 12 wound monster with a 4+ save.  That same 3+ save is now taking 5.6 damage on average.  The scar vet is basically the same thing, but he's dishing out ~4 damage to that 3+ save, but at least you are only spending 215 points on him.

However, on the bright side, when it comes time to start buffing, you have all out attack, the old blood's command ability, a scar veterans command ability, a sunbloods command ability, AND an eternity wardens command ability, for 3 instances of +1 to hit, 1 of +1 to wound, and 1 of exploding 6's, so at least you'll be able to buff everythings attack profile (somehow).  Thunder lizard also gives you an extra bite attack, sacred asterisms can give 1 hero +1 attacks, and I'm sure that there's more that I'm missing as far as buff abilities.

Basically though, it boils down that the swinginess of their attack profile and their lack of rend puts them in a poor position in the current meta.  If the meta changes, and we move away from save stacking, this might change.  If your local meta is a lot of nurgle and just putting wounds on the board, carnosaurs might be able to do some work.  Etherial Nighthaunt takes off?  Rend -1 is equal to rend -5, so you are doing fine there.  Your meta is going to zombietown and everyone is bringing 120 zombies + some other stuff?  Sure, carnosaurs may have a place.  Heavy armor targets?  Ehh... leave your carnosaurs at home and bring something that can do mortal wounds.

Overall, if you are ok with the fact that they are likely underpowered, and you are playing casually, you can probably run a few carnosaurs.  Go all in on that thunder lizard list with 4 carnosaurs and 3 stegadons and some other stuff.  Will it be good?  Nope.  Will it be fun?  Yup.  Pull out your inner child and go "dinosaurs RAWR".

Yea, then a ladder league wouldn’t be the best place to try this out. It’s a real shame, because I am starting a Kings of War salamander army, so I was hoping to double dip with a big Saurus force since that’s most of the models I am bringing. I think I’ll stick with my idoneth for this kinda stuff then, cause eels pretty much do everything I want saurs to do anyways.

still, it’s a damn shame that skinks seem to be the eternal victors of lizardmen.

    No.

    -snip-

well, that kills my enthusiasm! not going to lie, saurus's are the main draw for me.

How about the leaders? is there a way to make it work for the leaders like the oldblood or scar vet on carnosaur?

for marble you might want to start with a prime of white or a light grey, and paint it white. after that I'd stipple on a very light grey, then freehand veins of a darker grey in. for bronze I would basecoat in dark aqua, then drybrush on a brass or bronze color

didn't even consider a dark aqua for the bronze! I think I decided to do bronze for a different model, mostly one that is made for front line combat. since a cannon can be killed easily, it makes sense if it crumbles easily.

Now, are there any good painting tutorials for this?

  4. Hello! I got a crazy idea for painting a war machine with a third party miniature. I am planning on taking a Zeus miniature from Of gods and men and painting him up to look like a statue construct to use as a cannon. I plan on painting the cloth on his model purple, but how would I go about painting such a thing? I know I want to have a stone texture, or even a bronze one, but aside from that I don't exactly know what would look good. Anyone have any tips on painting marble or brass?

100% personnel aesthetic opinion only here.

From what iv seen a unit of 2 or 4 dragons as part of a bigger army look fantastic on the table. I run a Cities list with a unit of 2 (for cities there a great combo of wounds/save/mobility _good harrassers) and they look awsome. I can't quit put my finger on it, but when iv seen a full army of dragons on table I think they look awful. Just this pile wings and ****** popping out everywhere.

And again, never played against or with a full dragon list but oh wow, it looks like more work getting stuff done than a table full of Sylvaneth trees.

Nothing to do with how they play. Just an opinion on how they look.

I mean I get it, but after having an army of 20 eels I am used to the uniform look. they get put together only one way essentially. Still, I get your point...

but come on, where else can I get a full army of dragons?!

Personally if I was doing that I'd be a bit "Meta be damned" and just take a variety of sculpts, starting with the ones I like most. I'd hate to buy 12 Dracothian guard and them all be identical, winning or not.

well, I do plan on having them all be magnetized or at least pinned, so I could change out the arms where I can.

Here is a sample list that is subject to change! AlsoI need a good way to copy and paste lists

The big dragons are pretty overcosted atm so they're hard to fit into a list. They're also a bit fragile for points.

The smaller dragon rider guys are absolutely tearing up the meta and probably in line to get nerfed (again lol)

yea, i was afraid of that. I am slowly working up the courage to buy one and turn it into the magic dragon. I plan on using it to keep at a distance and bully small units or something. The other components of this list is x2 squads of dracoth guard, a knight draconis and a seperate guard, and 2 units of prosecutors.

this is super far off, so I may post my in progress list soon.

Edit: whelp, this is my list!

    Allegiance: Stormcast Eternals -
Stormhost: Hammers of Sigmar (Scions of the Storm) -
    Mortal Realm: Chamon -
Grand Strategy: Hold the Line -
    Triumphs:
LEADERS Yndrasta, The Celestial Spear (320)
    * Lord-Celestant on Dracoth (215)* - General - Command Trait: Envoy of the Heavens - Stormstrike Glaive & Thundershield - Artefact: Drakescale Armour - Mount Trait: Celestial Instincts
    Lord-Imperatant (175)* - Artefact: Hammer of Might

    UNITS
    2 x Dracothian Guard Concussors (220)
    10 x Vindictors (260)
    5 x Vindictors (130)
    3 x Annihilators with Meteoric Grandhammers (240)
    3 x Annihilators (200)
    3 x Praetors (165)
    3 x Aetherwings (65)
CORE BATTALIONS *Warlord ADDITIONAL ENHANCEMENTS Artefact

So this list is just the barebones of what I can get / use without purchasing too much. What I would need to get is L-C on dracoth, the warcry box of stormcasts, the concussors,  and second hand aetherwings.

I have no clue what I am doing

  8. Hello, I Have come once again to extol the virtues of the lord reagent  And wardens

played a game against night haunt and he was pretty much key for allowing my 20 man wardens to both attack and defend. One squad pretty much folded up an entire flank and won me the game after I fully buffed them with ethereal blessings, G power of hysh, speed of hysh (cast from archers) and an all out attack from him following them around.

Also helped to kill a unit of blade gheists before they slaughtered my wardens.

Now if only the books will treat wardens with the respect they deserve...

Really glad to see the warcry rules for the showdown between Light of Eltharion and Arkhan.

Thought it was odd that BR:Teclis missed out that cool bit of the narrative in the scenarios section, makes more sense now

I am just happy I can play with blade lords and lore seeker now. Those guys were custom made for skirmish games it feels, and look more fun to play then the stone horns

  10. I hope there are some more fun stories of other armies being stuck in Chamon. Could think of some fun ideas of a lumineth detachment getting stuck in Chamon on the way to heal a part of the realm, and maybe allying with dwarfs to make it through this miniature age of chaos now. Or, maybe a faction is working to make a realmgate into Chamon, and the forces of order need to protect it and make sure it doesn’t get corrupted?

  11. I want to see some stories of Armies now trapped in Chamon. This is basically a miniature Age of Chaos event, and could have some fun stories involved. Biggest thing I wanna see is a story where some civilizations of Chamon start to build a new realmgate, and have it be a danger of accidentally becoming a new chaos portal. Maybe with some Lumineth there to help / make sure they don’t hurt the realm more.

Honestly having a teclian vanguard army becoming trapped in the realm of metal could be a fun basis for a story overall.

  12. I played a few games with lumineth, and I gotta say there is a whole lot that can go wrong or right with them in any given game. I got lucky with my last game and had gotten the top of turn for every round, and it was pretty harrowing making sure I had every buff in place in order to withstand a charge from a bunch of very angry Bullgors. The lord-regeant really did prove himself vital with this, as the Greater power of Hysh spell is worth it's weight in gold in my opinion. When combined with my wardens it allowed me to get an offensive buff off in addition to ethereal blessings / Protection of hysh, which gave them a whole lot of longevity.

Also finally learned to just put speed of hysh on my dawn riders. I always mean to cast it with someone else but lumineth almost need a flow chart of what to cast when. I tried going for lambient light, but it wasn't always helpful if I was being honest. I may put it on my cathallar in the future just because she will be walking with my wardens up the field.

  13. On the traitor bit... Think it’s Morathi? Alarielle wasn’t part of the binding of Slaanesh, so it makes sense that she could be the traitor in “your” midst, and thus leave herself out of it?

I honestly like the idea of the good side having a complete victory for once (even if it is pyrrhic in it’s own way) and not have to deal with another “just as planned” justification. Feels good to have the closest thing to a victory since the End times!
