  2. First Sentinel mostly done, in the end it took me a bit longer than I thought to adapt my colour scheme. 9 more and Eltharion to go, and I finally have my 1,000 points finished (including 10 extra Wardens on the way to 2,000). I hope that the any new temples or the Tyrionic factions have the decency to put broader trims on their clothing. Edit: damn those photos, great to see all the mistakes ... 😅

PD: yes, rebasing the metal executioners was a huge pain. And I have at this moment 6 more waiting to be sawed (sobs)

  4. This Apologia of Chaos is supposed to counteract views of the Chaos gods both as essentially evil, and as rigidly onedimensional both in their own aspects and how the Chaos gods relate to each other. I want to enable people to think of Chaos both in a fundamentally nuanced way, and even in an alien morally sympathic way as a force of catharsis. In this first post I have started with Khorne, mainly because he is the Chaos god people would most think of as mindless. This text is merely one variation of turning to Khorne, and with a cursory consideration, there are other accounts you could write that show different aspects of Khorne : 1) - The honorable warrior who despises dishonor and grows ever more pathological in that sense (whereas my account is not based on someone who is already a warrior) which is the classically nuanced account of Khorne. 2) - The person who despairs at reality but turns to rage instead of acceptance at it (see chapter master Kyras in DoW2 for example) 3) - The soldier, commander, civilian or administrator who grows more and more irritated and enraged at the incompetence or cowardice with which their side or their colleagues are carrying out some military operation. This is close to the account you are about to read from me, but not the same. Simply encouraging the enemy's command & control and regular soldiers to act on these latent or open feelings is also how I imagine Khorne insidiously destroys enemy armies, logistics and fortresses from within, equivalent to how the other Chaos gods would in their own ways. But this particular account based on sins and "social justice" is the one I chose to write for now, as I feel it's both the most general for how different people would fall and most clearly subverts a perhaps more typical expectation of Khorne as someone that civilians would hardly turn to, when in fact to me civilian life is rich in the path to Khorne. One might even ponder that it could particularly be those who are the most used to a life of "civilized" convenience and vanity that would be more susceptible to Khorne (and not merely to Slaanesh as one would stereotype), as they with their lack of perspective and humility would be more easily angered and frustrated by smaller perceived slights and setbacks. I plan to write accounts of the 3 other Chaos gods too, including the different aspects they all have in themselves and how the other Chaos gods both overlap and conflict with those aspects. For Khorne I already hinted at different accounts/aspects above. My goals are to make you feel sympathy for the human condition as a prerequisite, and then ultimately to make you see Chaos as protagonistic - that in its twisted alien resolutions to the human condition, it may actually be cathartically benevolent. If only you let Chaos into your mind... ---------------- Khorne Emotion: Anger (Frustration, Rage, Resentment, Hate) Notions: Justice, Righteous Disgust & Fury, Respect It may not be the warrior who creates the Rage, but the Rage that creates the warrior. Khorne’s faithful can be drawn from the most forward-looking and just-minded of people. Those who seethe at oligarchic privilege, those with a keen ill regard for economic rent seeking, corruption and fraud, those who despise the violently antisocial and petty lowlifes, those who hate the child or animal abuser, rapist, the lying and unfaithful, the human trafficker and domestically violent, even those who are enraged at pollution or social custom – they are at the forefront of who may fall to Khorne. Khorne sees your Anger, and urges you to set things right and not stop until all the injustice has been righted. The perpetrators know what they are doing and you bitterly know they can only be dealt with through destruction. But there are also those who might claim to feel a sense of right, but do not show the righteousness to act on it. They enable or excuse the presence of evil through their languid comfort, foolish pity, or blind legalism. Do they not have the sense of Justice? They must be swept into your fold, or if they do not feel the conviction you do, swept away as despicable accomplices too. So begins the life for Justice. And your tendency toward reaction against perceived slights grows too until it is intolerable to abide the common people around. You may already have a negative reaction to the inane humor, witless or wanton disrespect, stupidity, carelessness and hypocrisy that other people display. Perhaps you are even mindful of this in yourself too. What harm is it if creatures like these die? Their natures are an incorrigibly ugly sight. The world is at no loss without them. So the spirit of Khorne gives you the clarity to wipe away the evil sin and the ugly flaw. But this could not last forever. When at some point the devotee reflects on their pursuit, they might come to consider that some they have killed may not have deserved death. As they face the killer they have become, they realise that the person they are now may serve as an example of what could’ve driven their earlier self down this path in anger in the first place. Now, at last, they feel their most profound sense of insight. For in reduction to the sinful, the flawed and the murderous, who all deserve Justice, the world has become one of limitless potential for it. And each killing of the innocent brings the world closer to this state as well, both physically through their elimination and spiritually through turning the killer into a hypocrite, who now stokes anger in those who were as they once were. And so the enlightenment of Khorne is revealed. Now, free at last through Khorne, you have the life for a higher cause and eternal paradise of Justice that you always desired. Blood for the Blood God! ---------------- So what do you think? I wrote and edited this text just in the last hour or so, it is meant to be an oversight of Khorne's concept rather than a deep personal story. Did you like it? Any critique of my prose or concepts? Hopefully it gave you something.

  11. Mine can also be quite dramatic, but prefer to jump on my lap, with their tails high up for better cat hairing of paint. My cats haven't destroyed any models (they are missing a lot of teeth due to inbreeding and a former owner being careless), but once my cat jumped on my lap while I was superglueing. I was startled a bit, and that Escher lady got a movement characteristic it'll never get in game. Your cat is nicer for your paintjobs, but mine has a tail from which the model could easily be clipped off. I also tried making them into models (cats and catacombs):

  14. Hail Adventurers! I'm here to share an Age of Sigmar RPG actual play podcast that we've been working on ever since July 2018, and recently updated with the awesome new Age of Sigmar: Soulbound ruleset that came out this year! If you're interested in learning the rules, we walk you through how to play, examples of mechanics, combat, etc throughout our campaign. We edit down the typical play sessions to one-hour condensed episodes so you don't need to wait for people to make their turns, look up rules, etc. We are also adding in more music and sound effects as the podcast grows! I am the DM for our current campaign and having a blast doing it! Homepage: www.goquestward.com Listen on iTunes Listen on Spotify We post new episodes bi-weekly for now, I'd love to go weekly if we can continue to grow at a good pace. Also looking for reviews and feedback! If you can help us out with an iTunes review that helps us get exposure to get more folks into the hobby, and if you have feedback or want to talk about episodes, I'd love to chat here!

  15. Played my first game with tzeentch today after building the army back in April before lockdown. I'd considered selling the army a few times as I've been playing orruks since 2018 and didn't think I'd enjoy them, but I gave it a go and really enjoyed the play style. I'm going mortals as I love the acolyte models, took pyrofane cult against a friend's tempest eye cities list and was well pleased to bring home the win on focal points! It was bit of a learning experience when I charged 20 acolytes with the +1 to hit agenda into 6 phoenix guard and only killed 1, with orruks you get used to killing what you charge. The lord of change with fatemaster reroll and artefact was an absolute killing machine, after one shot I was rolling 6d3 mws on a stardrake 🤣 Pics of the first painted models, the army's gonna be my passion painting project so will take a while to paint but I'm definitely committed to them now!

  16. These new Gargants are lot more feline, and surly, than I anticipated... I have to say I feel that releases I want most that have the biggest gap between reveal to release (last time being Death Guard). I really do hope we see more this weekend. I’d like to know if there is a Brodd or other characters in the kit or even in a separate kit. I’m hopeful that their success may see expansions from forgeworld And maybe even other Gargant kits. Hell there will undoubtedly bee some clever artisans that make some compatible bits to customise these even further. I really do hope FW consider redoing their Chaos Dwarf Siege Giant kit with the Mega gargant as a base. This and more wishlisting 😂

  17. The Zaitreci hold great reverence for Hyshs Moons and as the Moons steer the currents of the hyshian Oceans it falls to the Haven Guard of Tor Xillion to enclose on any seaborn threats to their beloved City. Alas there are many threats in this new Age - for Tor Xillion still lays besieged and so the Haven Guard is often stretched thin between maintaining the supply routes from Xintil or to conduct surprise landing operations on Zaitrecs coastlines. When the Moons are obscured and only the stars gaze out into the Night, they would land silently on hidden Beaches. With flickering Moonfire Lanterns and nimble feet their silver Companies march inland to surprise those who dare to spoil the Great Nation they call home. As you can see I had a complete turnaround - I just could not see myself to paint an Army mostly in Gold. I think deep down I always wanted some kind of Naval Theme. The Models are not entirely finished - i still need to decide on the Gemstones and correct mistakes. (The Dawnrider is on whole other level!) 😅 However I am very happy how it all came together. Updates will surely come but it may take a while.

  18. I‘m still hoping (against all odds) for a „Mortals of Shyish“ Book, Cities and Countries under Vampire or Necromancer rule... Will throw my money at a pure Soulblight book, cause fanboy. But as I rambled about all over this Site, I just love the diversity and options Death has for non-cut-throat games. And people love to play against me, because I don’t bring the samey list all the time (like nurgle or Ironjawz), but a new madness each time

  21. I would like three things: 1. A delay of at least another two years before it comes out. There's just no overwhelming need for a restart. Edit: Importantly, I would be highly bummed if the new edition invalidated the existing Battletomes. It might even get me to stop playing for an edition or two. 2. A further refinement of terms, in particular an un-muddying of wound/mortal wound and damage/wounds. You should not be checking for wounds at a point before you are wounding. 3. Model-by-model additions to units. Right now it really, really stinks to have to add 10 more models to a unit just to prevent losing a buff when a single model dies. Plus, sometimes you have six points left or are six points over and you have no flexibility on how to handle that. Bonus fourth item: Do not remove the priority roll. Not being able to completely predict the sequence of turns is a vital, absolutely crucial element of the game. Those of us who have been around long enough can remember when knowing the order of turns meant you could mostly predict all the action. It was boring. It was not fun. Too many games were over before a single hit roll was made. Now, with random turn order, gosh, you have to make contingency plans and can't just hit autopilot after deployment. We can also recall hundreds of games where one player or the other would say "Well, next turn is the last turn and I go first, so I will just retreat and deny you any chance. If the game were going to keep going (or I didn't know I could escape), I'd do something else, but oh well." Talk about anti-climactic! Determining the sequence for the whole game at the start is a major road block to fun and to challenge.

  22. Hi! I like the flavour and fluff of the Warhammer world and the classic fantasy tropes. I've started an Empire army around 2004 and I am still painting it to this day (I had long breaks ). I'm not a gamer so I don't care about rules, what's playable and new editions (I was disappointed about introducing space marines in fantasy tough). Anyways I will post everything I did so far. Bare in mind it's content from over the years so the level is uneven. Hope you like it, and I'm sorry in advance for a huge image dump or dubble posts. Content in order from oldest to newest. Warrior Priests of Sigmar Marco Colombo Ostermark swordsmen Knight panthers Knight Panther banner details Grandmaster and KP details. Mercenary ogres including Ogrix and Stuntix First diorama. Gotrek and Felix after a battle with a troll. More stuff in later posts.

  23. I think is fake. GW is talking almost every day about the release of the SoB very soon. If it is true that means a lot of weeks with 40k releases, it's very strange, they usually alternate games releases. 40k have fake rumours every month. Another point is Ben painting two armies, the Gargant army a few weeks ago and the Troggoth army at this moment... he knows things...

  24. Over the last week or so I finished the khinerai and another witch elf, and updated the bases on the witch elves. Pretty pleased with progress on the army, this brings me up to 3 witch elves and 2 khinerai 😆 I I’ve simplified the nmm gold abit, or perhaps just gotten used to the colors. The base of it is reddish brown and greenish brown, with more reddish brown in the shadows, as well as some purple and green to make a color close to dark dark brown. Then I paint the lights with flayed one flesh up to titanium white, and glaze a little bit of yriel yellow until I’m satisfied. There’s probably a simpler way to do this, I just worked with what I had lol. Going to paint some more witches next. I’ve got a banner girl on the table and am thinking about trying out freehand on her banner to keep things fresh. In my head I’m envisioning a golden serpent on a red field, but we’ll see...

  33. I have always seen the Chaos gods as transgressive elements of society that are ideologically neutral but perceived as evil. I even think that way about the demons, which are simply manifestations of these concepts (fears/desires) but clearly they are capable of existing alongside humans as they march and fight beside one another. I know it probably isn't lore friendly but I typically perceive of the lore as inspiration for my own narratives.

  35. So I like these off beat lists but I have play tested Skyfires and as much as I want them to be even close to worth 200 points. They really really are not worth it. I would take enlightened every single time...if not any unit in the book over them. Math hammer supports this and I still play tested them, just because I thought they can't be bad 16inch movement range etc. Tzangors on the other hand have been excellent in blobs of 20 for me against multiple types of lists. Many opponent's as well have said they didn't expect them to be quite as good. So my adaptions would be swap Skyfires > Enlightened and take the superb Darkfire Daemonrift 😉😉

  36. Got the snotlings finished. Just a little touch up on a few of them. I did a test batch of 3 of them for the scheme then just batch painted the rest. I didn't enjoy painting these that much, I never do enjoy painting the same scheme on lots of models, just ends up feeling like factory production line work. They were fast though and not as bad as I was hoping. Just the bases and the transfers left. Been a year of slow painting. Got my Lizardmen, Dark Elf, Skaven and now these Orgre Blood Bowl teams done, I have the Human and Orc team still to do. Not sure whether just to power through and get them all done or move on to something else.

  40. There's some really smart ideas in here - I've not thought of Cygors being a hard Lumineth counter, but you're right! Us cloven ones are always lamenting the lackluster Cygor rules, but this looks like a place where they can finally make their mark! As someone who is fanatically devoted to the herd's ruination of Elves, I'm happy to impart some additional bestial cunning your way. Making a one drop army and using the darkwalkers great fray is an incredibly powerful move. Dominating the movement phase is the way to win with BoC. However, your list might not be able to fully benefit from darkwalker movement shenanigans. The command ability can only be used by units within 18" of a darkwalkers hero. Your list only has the one hero (the GBS), and against a lumineth list it's probably not going to be very effective. At 5 wounds with a 5+ save, you can bet your life savings that any half competent opponent will turn it into a cloven pin cushion turn one or two. Taking only one GBS means you arn't capitalising on the herdstone's summoning mechanic. In a 1k game, summoning extra units is incredibly powerful. Leave a hero to camp at your herdstone to generate primordial call points (most players put 10 ungors there too to be sacrificed). With a list that's already highly mobile, bringing on extra units from the board edges to support your deployment will win you games. Being able to summon screens, objective grabbers, ranged attacks and pinning units is where the real mastery of the Beastmen is developed. You have access to some of the best chaff units in the game - for free. It can't be stressed enough that playing chaff units effectively is the key to BoC. The other thing your list isn't capitalising on is one of the best abilities in the BoC book. The Bray Shaman's 'Infuse with Bestial Vigour' adds 3" to brayherd units within 12". This should be utilised by running a Bray Shaman with one of your Brayherd units to effectively make them cavalry. The darkwalker command trait grants an additional +1 to run rolls, so if you pair up a bray shaman general with your Bestigors they get a 9" move with +2 to run with a charge on top. Bestigors do an additional attack on the charge to boot. A nice little tactic is to run your Bray Shaman with your Bestigors for the movement buff, get them into charge range, and then use 'Savage Encirclement' on the Bray Shaman to get them off the table and away from the fighting. However, that does mean that your bray shaman won't be able to cast next turn, or use their movement buff, so if you're going to do it, make sure you can do without them next turn. To conclude the last 3 paragraphs - take two bray shamans. You should have two if you get two boxes. I love the idea of taking the Ghorgon to eat unit champs, but unfortunately like many other Beastmen players this will probably set you up for disappointment. The Ghorgon's move characteristic starts at 8" and degrades pretty quickly as it only has a 5+ save. This means that against a ranged army, it's likely to become incredibly slow on turn one or two. By the time Ghorgons get into combat, they're usually not very effective. Taking the Darkwalkers greatfray and ambushing them is one way to get around this, but then you're often relying on making a 9" charge. It's great if it goes off, but usually it doesn't. Even if they do get into combat, that 5+ save usually means they take a pasting from whatever they go into. If you ambush a Ghorgon from the board edge behind something squishy, the most likely scenario is that you'll fail the charge and the squishies will run off next turn. If it's something a bit tougher, your opponent is likely to stand their ground. Ghorgons can smash units to pieces if you roll well, but they arn't very reliable. They're a fiddly glass hammer unit that takes some micro management to get working in your favour. It's a riot when it works, but in my experience, taking another unit of 10 Bestigors for 20 points less is always the better investment (more reliable killing power, movement and objective capturing). As you've said you want to do this with start collecting boxes, I'm not going to be 'that guy' and recommend you spent the best part of £100 on top of your initial investment. If you want to/are rich enough to do that then I've got a ton of decent purchase suggestions for you, but in the real world, money is actually a thing. I love your idea of building an 'anti lumineth' army with 2 boxes though, so here's how I'd change your list to fit with the initial idea. Drop the Ghorgon and extra command point to take 2 Cygors and 2 Bray Shamans. I think I've justified the second Bray Shaman, but justifying the second Cygor will take a bit of explaining. You've read the 'Soul Eater' ability of the Cygor, but the second ability deserves a mention here. 'Ghostsight' gives you re-rolls to hit against wizards. As I understand it, the entire Lumineth army are wizards. In a match up against Lumineth, the Cygor is even more terrifying then you first mentioned - they get re-rolls to hit army wide. Those D6 damage boulders are usually pants because of the 4+ to hit, but against lumineth they're killer! This re-roll also applies to melee, so if they want to engage the Cygors head on, they're still a pretty scary prospect. Against almost any other army, the Cygor just isn't worth taking, but against Lumineth, they'll 'eat them for breakfast'.

  42. If you're getting a box for Warcry, consider getting a Greatswords box and a few rifles from the Skitarii set though friends or bits sites. Guards aren't bad in hands and bodies, but in faces, they are lacking. Greatswords have enough guard equipment for your warcry band (though you may need to make or get some shields). Freeguild gunners are bad. The powder monkey is nice, but that's it. If you use a Greatswords body with a Skitarii gun, you have a really nice looking combination. You'll also have the guild captain and sergeant. The greatsword set is, well, great. The most recent use I had for it was today for a Necromunda noble.

  43. The Feasting Princes are my Chaos Chosen stand ins. They're made from Namantri thralls and the skull box. I wish I'd made a banner bearer and musician version, but that's something to consider next time. Feasting Princes Some members of the Fangs of the Leviathan inspire themselves to perform greater feats of strength in search of a meal. Those amongst the starving masses who prove their devotion gain the favour of the Leviathan, and their heads are transformed into a facsimile of their goddess. This startling transformation ends once they stand a foot or so taller than their peers, and they awaken one night with their meat cleaver fused with bone. This symbol of status marks their importance, and as a reward they are given first pickings; their ferocity inspires others to commit greater acts. As the starving masses are inspired to move above their station, the feasting princes begin to crave togetherness and aspire to ascend to a Wendigor.

  44. Edmund von Fleisch was the first hero I made for this army; I play them as an Exalted Hero of Chaos, but this may change to a Lord of Pain when the model comes out. They were made from an Idoneth Soulrender, the top part of a Wildrider staff, and blades from the Slaaneshi chariots. Edmund von Fleisch No one is sure where Edmund von Fleisch is from; he never takes off his thin horned helmet, nor does he enjoy the company of others. It is known that he was with the Wendigo from the beginning of the warlord’s rise, and that he is one of the few who the lord can abate for any length of time. Despite not holding the rank of general, Edmund is known to be the better commander of the troops, and perhaps one of the few in the Fangs of the Leviathan who has any part of their sanity left. It should be understood that he is still a cannibal, a murderer, and a depraved man, but he is one of the few capable of carrying on a conversation without his mind breaking down in a starving frenzy. If one were to ask why he partakes in such awful acts with such bestial men, and he was in the mood to answer, he would say that it was for a greater purpose. That those who accompanied him were a necessary evil. In his mind, he knows the truth of the abyssal Leviathan, and he knows why it has spared him the psychosis that infects the others. In his mind, he knows that they mean well for him and will reward him with paradise for his service. Until then, he tends to the beautiful fleshwood forests by grinding up the bodies of the unenlightened into easily digestible chunks. When summoned to battle, something that he does not appreciate, he fights with reserved obligation. He knows his mother-goddess wills it, but he detests how good it feels to have the spray of viscera flood the inside of his mouth, and how much it makes him feel as much a beast as his companions.

  46. Most of my thinking has largely been covered in the comments above (including version 3 being no earlier than 2022). Separate competitive and casual play a bit more. I don't mean matched/narrative/open, I mean specifically competitive (including tournaments) and the rest. My own (and unpopular) opinion is I'd like to see two points systems, one being a granular system for competitive games and then a quicker easier one for casual games (basically what we have now). I feel this could help to provide balance where one load out is considered the "best" for a unit and fix units that are a little out by just increasing it by a couple of points rather than a multiple of ten. Curtail the number of rules and abilities that prevent "normal" interaction by one player. The basic point of any game is that the players enjoy themselves, preventing the interaction of one player will likely reduce their enjoyment. By interaction I mean "no you can't unbind that" or "no you can't make a save roll against that" - basically "there's nothing you can do to stop me". At an event this is often viewed as "I'll go get a drink then you can tell me what models to remove" Have a merciless exercise of "murdering your darlings". This is something that's been talked about in articles in White Dwarf by Jervis Johnson and the other game devs in the past and plays into the saying that "perfection isn't when there's nothing left to add, it's when there's nothing left to remove". I believe that over the years there has been too much complexity added into the game, most games I play start off with a discussion if we want to use terrain rules, most players forget triumphs and trying to remember all your rules requires the use of multipage crib-sheets (and online tools to compile them all together). The beauty of AoS has always been that it's easy to learn without needing the old "basic rules and advanced rules" concept.

  47. I'd like better incentives to the double turn choice. I think endless spell control was really not enough of a decision against taking the double turn. I think the best space for double turn incentives is with mission objectives. Second turn player gets bonus points for objectives etc. Enough points to make fighting back from getting double turned a possible game changer. Just a spitball idea but I think could be refined into something fun. And please somebody, HELP my poor Gitz battletome keyword soup. 😅

  48. I literally just got done telling some 40k players this same thing when introducing them to AoS, the Double turn has value in AoS and its only bad when players play like its not there. It would be different if there wasn't so many armies with 1 or 2 tricks and that is it. But the game is way to predictable without it.
