Maybe be a little less insecure? We know no one lives in an attic at the hobby store and the last line was in reference to the shining for emphasizing how painting the same mini can be maddening (hopefully that word didn't upset you as well). I didn't think you were socially inept until that comment to be honest. But this is for rumours I guess and not jokes or neckbearding around so we should probably end with agree to disagree.

What does that mean? Oh, that's an english idiom for an unexpected choice. Sounded like an Anvilgard box with some Scourgerunner Chariots and Dark Riders.

Paging @KingBrodd this could be a pretty good clue as to when you’ll get your big boys

Implying that now you do. It's not about me, personally, being insecure. I'm content. I'm happy. I just thought your casual disregard for mental health and social awkwardness was off-putting and potentially damaging to those who genuinely do suffer from these difficulties. We try hard to be friendly and inclusive here, and your flippant remarks fly in the face of that.

That's a matter of opinion. While I do enjoy the "therapy" of painting the same guy 70 times, the main thing I like about single-pose, one-part models is how it makes an army look like an army and not just a loose band of like-minded fighters. I respect that you find it boring, but for some of us, the loss of the option to get 50-200 of the same exact guy and paint them all is a real bummer in an otherwise exciting hobby.

Okay, are you getting these ideas from an rpg session? This seems way too real to what a player would do to doom his party.

Yeah, I mean i'd love and pre-order on the spot more fantastical terrain like floating islands and living landmasses that suit the lore of the Mortal Realms but not only would those over complicate things in an average battle but the added random elements would be a bigger Matched Play turn off. I mean it's at a whopping 42 scenery warscrolls now. Cuts have to be made to keep the game on track. That said I feel they've done a great job of balancing the streamline nature of AoS while keeping it feeling very mythical with the Scenery they have kept from the beginning, magical faction focused scenery, the newer fantastical Forbidden Power terrain, Endless Spells adding their own thematic flavor and now standardized realmscapes to keep it interesting even for plainer battlefields. Certainly the AoS battlefields are as epic and versatile as they've ever been for players, if not more so. Lots of great stuff on the board these days to accommodate all the huge fights, crazy magical mash ups and small skirmishes in an AoS battle. However if you're a fellow Narrative nut that really needs that epic fantasy fix that standard gaming can't cater to (like an authentic Aether Sky War) then look up Dark Fantastic Mills. Gorgeous over-the-top terrain that's perfect for Open and Narrative play in the Mortal Realms. https://mobile.twitter.com/Dark_Fantastic/status/1286242258472271872

I hope it's still not too late to join this. Just saw this thread. I think it's great, and it fits perfectly with me building my Lumineth army up to 2,000 points, after a very long hiatus from the hobby. The army uses the Ziatrec colour scheme, which is my favorite Lumineth sub-factions (lore and mechanics). The first step is building a 1,000 points force. I have bought 3 Lumineth boxes, a Mistweaver (to use as a Cathaller) and the Endless Spells from Malign Sorcery. This will bring my to around 1,000 points. 3 x 10 Wardens 1 x 5 Dawnriders Eltharion Scinari Cathallar (Mistweaver) 2 Endless Spells That's my first goal. I've primed 30 Wardens, Eltharion, 10 Dawnriders, and the Endless Spells. The Mistweaver is still being shipped from the UK. 12 Wardens are in various stages of being pained. None of them is finished as I'm still waiting on some paints and things for basing. I hope to finish most of the 30 Wardens in August, early September. The Mistweaver will be my first attempt at a conversion, so that might go horrible wrong. After the rest of the range is released in September I want to bring the army to 2,000 points by adding Teclis, a Scinari Cathallar model (or 2 if I messed up the Mistweaver conversion), 30 Sentinels (archers), and the Lumineth Endless Spells. That's probably enough for at least the rest of this year. After that I want to add the Mountain Faction with Avalenor, probably 2 Stonemages, Sprit of the Mountain and 15 Stoneguard. But it could also be that I have to add other units (more Wardens or Sentinenls etc.) in case my first list doesn't work out. I'm lucky that the Lumineth models are really beautiful, even with my meager and rusty painting skills they still look pretty awesome. I really enjoy painting them, although it's a very slow process.

A bit late to this. After completely failing July's painting contract of painting a Skaven Bloodbowl team and the Ogre one. I'm scaling it back to just finishing the Skaven this month. That pledge to paint the Orgres as well is looking like the most outrageous of Kickstarter Stretch Goals, what was I thinking. This is what I had done and still left to do with the Skaven. The grass based ones still have some transfers to go on. I don't usually paint all the models in one go, I think getting to the point where all of them had a rough base coat down is maybe what killed it for me, I lose a lot of interest just putting down the same colours over and over again. I've been finishing the models in pairs to try keep it more interesting.

This will be my first Audio Drama then which means hopefully there is also a novel coming!! Or at least this Audio book in physical at some point as well. Mate I cannot wait to get my hands on the Battletome, swear down I am so pumped for this Faction, this artwork alone has my hype, somehow even more so, elevated. It's the perfect way to introduce the Realms and the world to the Sons. It sounds like World War Z but with Gargants as the antagonists!!

The idea of traumatised survivors telling stories about their encounters with giants around the campfire is a good one. Dig into the folktale aspect. ”By Old Bones, I swear I tell the truth. It was thiiiiss biiiiig...”

As someone who likes the darkling part of TE, few suggestions: Darkshards. I own 40 of them and several of my lists included them all. I really like them as a unit, but to be good there needs to be a lot of them, best near the hurricanum and with Hawk Eyed general. Without that they're very underwhelming. Alternatively, small unit of 10 is great as well, because they're a sacrificial unit for the sorceress and can still do some harm while camping with her. And you'll not have much use of their potential mobility, because the Sorceress is much better off using her command ability on Executioners instead. 20 with no hawk eyed and hurricanum supporting the front line will likely disappoint you. I'd consider dropping half of them. That gets you extra 100 points and, guess what, you could really use those points because... Executioners! I kinda liked them before the update, now they're even cheaper! However! For just 60 points more, you could have 30 of them, and, really, why not? Cheap as they are, without their horde discount they're usually outperformed by other elite infantry options we have. But if you run 30, now we're talking! And if you swap 10 darkshards for 10 executioners, you still have 50 pts leftover. And as you have neither the battalion or adjutant, you could really use that extra command point you could buy for this. Both Executioners and Drakespawn can potentially charge in 1st turn. Executioners need a command point to do that (sorceress'), drakespawn need a command point to fight effectively (dreadlord's ability). Celestial visions is a great spell, but you can't really risk it not going off, because you'll lack CP in the opening turn. Also! Rageblade is pretty fun, but if I may suggest an alternative: Zephyrite banner. You have multiple units capable of long range charges. You can give them all a free re-roll with proper positioning. It's much more utility than making an already killy character a little bit more killy. Apart from that, it seems like a very fun list to play ; )

Great unit. can take objective at the beginning of the first turn pretty easily. are great meatshields. and can even be some great lategame objective holders. but keeping your threads alive seems to get harder and harder. keeping your threads from a first turn shooting alpha strike Army like the Ko with their overextended range, won’t be easy, even with 1-2units of screening Night-runners. With the current meta I think we best served with having 1-3Grinders for deep-striking, in our army. And if the current powercreep keeps up, I’m really interested to see which unit with a range of 72inches will be dominating the meta for the next few month-years

I'm a huge fan of making display boards for my armies, and so far two of them have included some kind of broken pillar. The broken pillar is a staple of both worlds of Warhammer in fact, and would be right at home in the scenery collection of any AoS or 40k player. Luckily there is a quick, and cost effective way to make these byproducts of a war torn environment. View the full article

I've used them previously to zone out things like KO, CoS and Changehost like you're describing and yeah, they work pretty well. I just had trouble fitting 10-20 into lists and still have 80+ Clanrats on the board with my other 2-3 threats. I feel that 80 is still too steep for them but if your local meta has lots of alpha striking, I 100% think it's worth finding somewhere to fit them in. That all said, I still find that things like KO are still going to be able to kill important units with their long ranges. For me, I'm looking more at taking 1-2 Grinders instead to keep my own threats off the board... and they cost the same.

Maybe show something close to a little respect for people who are not the same as you. Calling people you've never met "absolutely mad" and implying they are socially inept is really uncalled for.

Beauty is pain? : ) About the brain drain - these effects of the realms on people is really interesting in AoS, but I don't think there is a real structure to it. It's more how much a narrator needs to make their story interesting. As long as not some Black Library author picks up on that, or it coming up in the Soulbound RPG I don't think we'll hear much about it. Things we could imagine is that they might rely even more on Aetherquartz outside of Hysh, which could cause all kind of problems and interesting storylines (from the logistics, to not getting too addicted etc.). If it's a colony or more permanent base, what I could see is that Teclis or some mage/artisan comes up with smaller versions of the Enlightenment Engines, which Teclis made to recreate Hyshian effects in other Realms. So that at least permanent population centers are not suffering from Hyshian withdrawal effects as long as they stay inside of its range.

No, it's not just you. I feel that compact single drop features are lacking and these pieces are what we need for the clash of entire armies. Dragonfate Dias, Warscryer Citadel and Witchfate Tor are great examples of terrain suited to an army game. 'Here is a hill, over here is a dark forest and here is an imposing fortress' is the kind of thing you what to be saying when you are setting up an interesting battle field. The problem is all the previous examples and many other examples of this sort of terrain is out of print. We do have some very nice and suitable faction terrain though, (I am a massive fan of the Gloomtide Shipwreck scenery piece) but I agree that a few more pieces would be nice. I do love the Warcry terrain, the new ziggurat sets and even the older Azyrite Ruins but I feel these are more useful as skirmish scenery where we zoom in on a small area rather than survey an entire battle field. As for the rules, well I feel they are vastly improved. I like my terrain rules lean and easy to remember to keep the focus on the toy soldiers but that is my personal taste.

Haha I have no idea what the night lords scheme is? I'm aiming for Sons of Mallus who are a sub chamber thingy from the anvilguard. Basically wanted to try painting black armour and got a good deal on the soul war set... now have 3K... things have escalated Thank you! Personally I really like the purple edges. Didn't want to the full anvil scheme

Wanted to personally thank you for this. I was already connecting to his character but that's me full stop when discussing AoS or multi-reality fantasy settings with my friends. Even went into it with a friend's joke response on that being me. Friend: "Thou'st has been exposed, Nurglite! What say ye in thine defense?" Me: "It was easier going Nurgle than being hygienic and trying to find soap in the seventh level Twilight sub-realm of the Geminid conference between the Hysh & Ulgu realms where it's too dark to see and thus nobody cares about appearances anyway."

I think we all are missing the real question here.. How the h.... did you get 240 Chainrasps without being insanely commited to playing Nighthaunts to begin with!? I mean, did your birthday wish go wrong and all 24 guests bought you a box of 10 Chains? Do your dad run the local Games Workshop factory? Are they really just M&Ms you use as Chainrasp substitutes? Can you even tell us or will the Yakuza come after us for knowing???? 😉

They can keep bringing more random Sons stuff out and ill just add it to the buy on release heap. Gargant sized dice, Gargant size dice bags, comedy gargant 3x size tape measures. But I definitely feel this is a sign of rough time estimate (Or they may come out the week before!) would be very weird to have a audiobook for a race that...isn't buyable 😛

@Arkahn - spread out the brutes do well late game. They are also a wall for chargers to hit early on which you can auto pass battleshock on. The MightyD from Ironfist (which can include a run) really helps units get around quickly. The teleport is also great. There’s also green puke for the extra D6” if you really need it. KO and other alpha strike armies will always be a struggle as all my characters are ‘support characters’

You're right, so many good tutorials online now. Was a lot different when I started the hobby. I've been helping Oscar Lars, a proffesional painter, with his tutorials for a while now. And that really helped me. Especially his Ogor skin tutorial. The basics in how, and where, he builds up layers translates to most things. Or maybe the robe in the Stormcast tutorial is more applicable to the Lumineth. Oh I like the moon theme! I overshoot concepts all the time, but that's how the coolest things happen. I think the blue crystals and epecially color shift paints will look really cool. Excited to see how that pans out.

Of course you can! They look great, wish that was my level of rustiness when I picked up the brush after 15 years 😂 That's a great idea on the Mistweaver btw. Good luck with the paint list! 500pts a month is a great challenge but by doing so you will be at 2k in december! Any. plans for the basing?

Thank you : ) . Going through the thread I thought your name would fit with HE : ). Eltharion is a really great model. Also the details GW now puts into these models is awesome. Little things I just notice during painting. I keep Eltharion and Teclis until last - hopefully my skills have improved until then to do them some justice. I started HE in 4th and just sticked with them. I'm lucky that I really like what they did with them in AoS. Hope you give in to getting the whole range at some point : )

My list was 4 drops, and only 8 units. I felt that the Brutes did nothing the entire time. Other than screening, but for 130 pts, This seemed expensive for that role. If they had the +/+ mid to late game I am sure they would have don better and it likely wouldn't have impacted my ability to go aggressively too much. Everything has its tradeoff. I am going to take Ironsunz again for sure, but with 3 more GG's, and I am going to go for pure Alpha strike. I'm not going to bother with the Weirdnob as there is nothing fast enough to keep up with them Ardboys. Some of the Auxiliaries require a Battleline to do stuff. If I take a unit of 5 Ardboys, I guess I can't use them for Battleline stuff. And in Better Part of Valour they can't even cap objectives. My thinking is that Savage Orruks will do a better job for less points.

I don't think fyreslayers have had a battleforce have they? Certainly not in the last three or so years that I can (semi) clearly remember. Wait... why are we speculating about christmas battleforce boxes during a heat wave in August! That's just wrong folks.

This list is almost identical to the list I am planning to run in September at a 2-day tourney... a few thoughts: - I put in a Corpse Cart (unholy lode stone) instead of the extra command point (thus getting to 2000 pts on the nose!). That’s because both the Necromancer’s and Vhordrai spells are absolutely key - and in my case the one on the VLoZD as well. You don’t mention spells... I went for Overwhelming Dread (Necromancer), Amethistine Pinions (VLoZD) and Vile Transference (Vhordrai). The Cart also gives a +1 save to your wolves, which makes them uber-cost-effective. And, I very recently put together what I think is a decent conversion of that particular model, so... 😜 - The Sword is (marginally) better than the lance for the VLoZD (search elsewhere on tag, plenty of threads about that) unless you are running it with Mist Form in SoulBlight (as in that case you can always charge...) - I have split my 10 Blood Knights into two units of 5, as in that way it’s easier to get them in cover and they can countercharge whatever gets on both the VLoZD and Vhordrai. Easier to get them all in, harder for your opponent to shut down their charge, more board control with 2 units instead of one. This one I have thoroughly tested - it’s just better, unless you have no anti-horde unit, but that’s when the Reapers come in. Other than that, as I said, the most competitive thing I could come up with is something very very similar to your so... it must be good, right? I’ll let you know how it performs in September! It has the bodies, the anti-hero, the anti-elite and the anti-horde. It is super fast, the Reapers come back... I think it’s strong. Against the filthiest of the latest meta-lists... of course we are going to suffer, but hey, we’ll do what we can! This is incorrect. Both Vhordrai and the Blood Knights went down in points, thus effectively making this list possible with a 60 pts boon. Not bad!

I have finished the 3rd of my Warcry Ruins, this was a really simple build just so I could get it finished quickly. Then it took me over 3 months to paint it... I've started building the 4th. I found some Aeldari Xenoscape parts, leftover from making scenery for the Shadows of Commorragh campaign, so I carved them up to make a "Ta Prohm" styled overgrown ruin. I like where this one is going at the moment.

@Rock Lobster damn, I finished with the warden alone, and you have to knock me out of the water with those guys. Damn fine job on those guys, here is my take on ziatrec with color shifting. Used burning gold over retributor armor for the majority of the armor, nullen oil gloss over the retributor armor for the scale mail, and a mixture of paints over the crest. On the shield I used Toxic Purple for the shield from chameleon paints, and red / purple contrast for the robes. For his sword I just used colorshift celestial azure, and I dunno if I like it, but it certainly shows that it’s special metals.

After several years of not caring about AoS, it was through the RPG that I finally began to find things about the setting that resonated with me and I am thinking about getting into the tabletop game properly. But I am not yet sure what army to play. Now, I have a couple of favourites. I would be very grateful if someone could tell me their pros and cons, their strengths and weaknesses so I can make an educated choice. My favourites are: Flesh-Eater Courts Ossiarch Bonereapers Greenskinz Beasts of Chaos Slaves to Darkness Any input would be welcome.
