A Fae-Aelf army is exactly what should be happening for the Kurnothi in regards to AOS as a whole. The Gloomspite and now the Sons of Behemat have had very fairy tale like advertising and overall themes so classic Fae Aleves would be right up that alley. Also Centaur Aelves are just too perfect to pass up. I cannot even imagine what sort of beasts they would employ in their service.

    1. Finish Thorns of the Briar Queen 2. Start and progress with Black 3. One other mini Black Coach (In Progress): Also started with the dreadblade harrows, also as a test for the horses for the coach. It is not quiet finished, but with a bit of luck I will finish one tomorrow (and complete my pledge) In addition (for a bit of distraction) I also started with The Mausoleum, nothing finished yet, but some in progress: And of course finished the Briar Queen Warband earlier, as already posted before: All in all a good month for me . My goals are modest as always, but at least kinda completed them this time. That's a good thing or a slow painter with little time as I am. Also finally getting a better setup for my photo's I think. They always tend to be too dark, mainly because I want a dark background not showing all kind of nasty details like dust and cathairs. Think I improved the lightning a lot now. Not there where I want to be yet, would like to make the light more soft (like a softbox) to get rid of the shine ( the actual models have a more matt finish then how they show on the pictures actually)

If I recall correctly, one year ago on this date, I painted my first mini!

Realm Shaper Lord He's finally done! This took much longer than I expected, needed to add so many little details and structure to make use that he didn't just wobble around and fall over. I'm dreading painting this thing, so many little details! Luckily I've made it so the dwarf comes off the base so that should help a bit.

Well I failed at not touching the model, or painting more of it but... the deathriders are finally finished after about 3 months of procrastination!

Hello everybody!! One thing I love about AoS are all the warbands from Underworld and Warcry. They add lots of variety to this universe and usually the sculpts are great! I made this topic in order to share with you my warbands as soon as I finish them! here is my Skaeth's Wild Hunt! Let me know what you think!

As always, it’s all down to choosing the right 💊

i think i'd prefer to see the kurnothi as as expansion to sylvaneth, handled much like the expansion to GSC done in 40k. centaur cavalry and a skirmishing horde unit of satyrs would be excellent additions

Me too- thats what I'm worried about as well! But Whitefang on here seems to have a sense of things [maybe I'm giving him too much credit!:D] and he's fairly positive they will get a book etc.. and Atia on War of Sigmar mentioned a Centaur army coming when they were initially released.. Hope they really push the wild nature of them, I didn't like it when Wood Elves became green elves rather than the Fae- the Wild Hunt models seem to have recaptured that feel. Its probably down to restricted access to the studio and reduced staffing - the photos seem pretty minimal relative to the normal product listing so imagine they will get back to as soon as they can. Photos sell models after all.

Did you notice guys that none of the new miniatures has a 3D view? I find it very convenient especially when I'm building and/or magnetize my miniatures... I hope that this is not the new GW way of presenting stuff . I miss this 3D view 🤔

I’m in, although my painting rate is pretty slow. I am loving Tzeentch right now and have just cleaned up a small collection of kairic acolytes and tzaangor to add to my Eyes of the Nine warband. Here’s what’s painted so far: For June my goal is to paint 3 models. Here’s what I’ve assembled over the last few days, it should take a few months to paint

Regarding (the) Owls (are not what they seem), last book of 8th was Wood Elves (other than the campaign books that ended with a bang) and some of the semi reliable rumour mongers on ... portent? warseer? commented on seeing Owl-like Beastmasters,.. now since GW is bringing Wood Elves back as Pan-aelves it wouldn't surprise me to see some of those old rumours maybe manifest. Why (bother steer this thread back to rumours instead of Psychic Awakening)? Cause GW starts as concept art, Jes Goodwin did most the Elf range from 1987, so it wouldn't surprise me to see him revisit this in concept sketches to push forward ideas stagnating at the end of 35 years of Fantasy. A lot of wrong rumours are play testing stuff that doesn't manifest physically, but in early pdf form "use ogre sized model with these stats" very early on. It also helped seed who leaked cause not everyone got the same stuff play testing back then. How the Beastmen leaks turned into a firing and PK needing to finish the book. Sometimes we see stuff with crazy dates. John Blanches KO concepts were dated during 8th ed. Since the (sylvaneth) warband for pan-Aelves has everything being tied hard into nature, incorporating Owls isn't a surprise. There have been owl bitz for the 2005 WE release, the 8th ed release (3-eyed owl in the treelord kit). Just wish it was an AoS summer not 40k. ah well. You sit around this hobby long enough to see the same things over and over again just in a drifting mauve ocean of collected unconcious where the white lodge resides. Drycha was a champion in the 4th ed book, hero in the 6th ed book, better hero in the AoS books, even names like Calaingor, Durthu, spell names, etc. Just revamp the core drive.

So I managed to get all the heroes complete. These took a lot longer than expected as I have changed technique and it takes forever to dry in the cold... Anyway, here is a pic I think they turned out pretty well. Individual but unified through the gold. Each gold was a different recipe. Will be testing them in Hammerhal tomorrow!

I didn't add pics of the first bit of my airforce. Like a genius, I did the freehand before wash and highlights.

One of the issues is that new 40k is going to be taking up a monumental amount of warehouse - warehouse that they can't use for other things until they've shifted that stock in some form or another. As my boss frequently says, having stock sat doing in a warehouse is costly because we still have to pay business rates on that space. More than happy to agree to disagree and see what the release schedule actually turns out like! I'm really looking forward to the conquest campaign. If feels like the child of Path to Glory and Warcry! Terrain rules and command point changes are also worth looking at, although stratagems are fairly different to how our command abilities work.

I take 1 Glaive to every 2 Paired b.c I need the reach for them, and Paired is the most damaging weapon they have.

Decided to take my previous “shop class” comment a bit more literal. Designed and built a frame to comfortably go around one of my gaming tables. Objective is to attach multiple webcams (e.g. top down, “players view”, dice tray view, etc.) in order to be able to play games with friends still in lockdown. Will update after beta test...

I have ached over this and I would go with glaives UNLESS you run them in a Khorne army with a bloodsecrator or a tzeentch army with Fatemaster. They need the extra attacks or rerolling hits with the crushers. The 2” reach and rend -1 coupled with the extra speed from Beasts allegiance makes the glaives superior then, more able to target an exposed unit who thinks they are safe. And having a Shaggoth nearby even better, or in the Brass Despoilers. Just my take anyways.

"Pick one of the bearer’s melee weapons. Once per battle, at the start of the combat phase, you can add 3 to the Damage characteristic of that weapon until the end of that phase." So the weapon has a damage characteristic of 5 for one phase. Or 6 with a Warchanter. Therefore, each unsaved attack will inflict that much damage. Since it is one weapon, it will not benefit the mount if it's on a maw krusha. Getting 30 damage off one unit in Orruk Warclans is pretty typical. Gore gruntas can easily do 50 with a good charge.

Yes its one of things I've grown to love about AoS- bringing me armies I had no idea I would love- Steam-punk dwarf sky-pirates- absolutely! A Narnian army of half elves- wonderful! The original beast masters had hawks, wild cats, hounds, boars and bears so they could add those. Large bear-type creatures would be excellent, and obviously giant eagles are possibility. They could have packs of these running with the faun/centaur elves. Really interested to see what the range build up like and what the heroes look like. Obviously Kurnoth/shard of Kurnoth would e the centrepiece. Anyway I doubt they would release two aelf factions in the same year so they would be a way off yet unless they appear in Warcry or Quest.

I've been holding my breath for a Wild Hunt AoS army for too long now, here's hoping that the Beastgrave warband isn't just a cruel tease that'll never turn into an actual army/more models (looking a t you Darkoath)...

Great idea, and excellently done. Reminds me of the whole Grand Alliance Aelves discussion - but of course, Aelves are quite a bit more splintered than Duardin, and Dwarves are known for their loyalty and sense of kinship. Good work, my short-statured friends!

I just can't wait for the Kurnothi ! I'm waiting for an updated miniature worthy of Orion. A part of Kurnoth was awakened. "A shard of Kurnoth has indeed been woken and hunts in the swamps of the Ghoul Mere but by self-admission is not yet at the level of a god."

The blast rule they're talking about sounds interesting. Basically a subset of weapons that naturally get an advantage against larger units. I think it'd be nice if they ported something like it to artillery in AoS. I know that there are usually bonuses to hit, but nothing ruins a shot like rolling a d6 for damage and killing one piddly clan rat. Maybe reroll the damage against units of 20-30 models and always max damage when the unit is more than 30? It would certainly make older artillery pieces nobody uses more interesting/useful.

Actually with the long term impact of Covid I think GW can be ok right now to push ahead even if they can't keep everything in stock. Because they aren't alone in the boat - the whole world is in there with them in some form or another. Sure its not ideal, but GW likely can't even operate their factory and warehouse at full output for at least a year or more with social distancing restrictions. This ignores any local or national lockdown happening again or even if one person in their team catches it and then shuts down the whole site for two or more weeks. The imperative for them to get 9thed out is that they've got other stuff they've already invested in also waiting to go. The risk is that htye end up sitting on millions of £ worth of moulds and design work that they can't sell. Ergo an investment that isn't making any money and is costing them to store. Better to get it out the door as best they can. They can then steadily slow releases in the future and spread things out; they can regain control by clearing some backlog.

It appears I have failed my contract, I blame getting sidetracked, I was unable to finish the Magmadroth and the Runeson, although it's mostly because I got sidetracked into a gunhauler, which I am nearly finished with but got burned out on. Maybe I can finish my Runeson, but i am going to set my goal low and say finish the Magmadroth and the Gunhauler.

Still the ever present basing to be done but the Boingrots have bounded. Plus the whole Boingrot cavalry. I took an old conversion (cold one/squig morph) and made him a Loonboss on a giant squig. Somehow that gnoblar just doesn’t look right but I don’t have another rider at the moment.
  33. 1 point
@DanteeChaos this is true however the squig hoppers got updated with the exact same rider models as the foot troops. Same proportions, scale, design, etc. Hell, you can even mix and match the arms now. I've done all my foot gits with the boingrot Lance's converted to spears. Even chopped off all their heads and used the helmets.

Been a long time since I last posted, but finally got the camera out and taken some photos so here’s a big image dump for you. First up I finished the Stormcast Army I started. I went for my own take on a host from Hallowed Knights. These guys are purposely table top so they can always be a gaming army that can be added to quickly. I wanted a striking scheme and interesting basing to detract from this and improve the overall effect. Lord Arcanum on Tuarolon Heroes Lord Relictor Lord Celestant Lord Castellant Knight Incantor Lord Celestant on Dracoth his accompanying Fulminators Lord Ordinator and Ballistas Sequitors Judicators Evocators Liberators Prosectuors and Knight

My gyrocopters both have been getting along. The metal GW one is halfway constructed, with the rotor sadly a bit uncooperative. The kitbashed one is a lot further along. Components: * Empire mortar body of the plane * Revell Fokker DVII for the wings and tail * Freeguild gunner for the body (fits with the size of the metal one quite well) * Kharadron Arkanaut head * Backpack and fumigator of Thundrik * Blood Bowl bombs * Bits of wire for the spars Most of my metal dwarves are also well on the way. Well on the way to Spain, where another member will do more with them than I am going to.

Hi all. I've been able to complete my pledge successfully, to my relief 😅 Further more, It's the first time I have added some rust effects on some metals (subtle, still) and I've been improving my gradient skills, with (i think) good results on reds, nice results on greens, and mixed results on blue. I don't do heavy gradients yet, tho. Still improving. Now the photos. I've liked a lot painting the thorns, as i have already painted 20 chainrasps, I got the trick of it. Added rust effects to the blades, and nice gradients on the reddish parts: With that practice, I went on to further work on the reddish gradients on the tomb banshee. Also, first time using Green Fluorescent paint (Vallejo) for some effects on the eyes. I'm quite happy with the outcome: Enough red. Next, for a total change of theme, I painted the Knight Questor, giving him extra care. First time adding some freehand details. I'm very happy with all of it. But, yeah, I've given this guy around 8 hours of my life.... And last but not least, I painted all three vampires of the diorama, which I call "my RGB vampires". Very happy with all, as well. The blue one gave me some problems on the highlights in blue, because I went with turquoise, but got it more or less sorted with a glaze, and learnt a lot in the process, about gradients, 3d prints, magnets (I magnetized all the vampires and the cauldron), creepy eyes... The Treelord is still wip and the banshees for the mortis engine are finished too, but I won't post the photos again because it looks more or less the same as last month's without them Also, my 10 year old kid wants you all to know that he has painted a kurnoth hunter (only small fine detail corrections from me) Very satisfied!! On to next month!

Painted up a White Lion Chariot in the same classic color scheme as the White Lions in the previous post. Happy with how it came out! Several assorted thoughts: contrast made the manes incredibly easy (just diluted gryph charger grey) not super happy with the freehand on the banner -- I wish I had just done a simpler elvish rune -- but hey, you learn as you go this was my first time painting / assembling a vehicle. Overall it wasn't easier or harder than painting a character but all the subassemblies definitely made things more fiddly pinning is so important to get all the bits to stick together (the banner to the chariot, the lions to the milliput road, etc).

Update with an almost completed building!!! Just waiting on the roof to finish printing. It's been a surprising bottleneck with how slowly these things print. This house took over a week and it still isn't done :O Also working on some more 3D printed projects and will update once I finish a full unit! In the meantime, here's a picture of my Death Korps of Krieg winning armies on parade last October! 10000000_685777928911715_9183215566048930573_n.mp4

Bit of a random one but when the whole lockdown thing started I wanted to support some smaller companies, taken a few weeks but the first things I ordered just turned up, so that’s a giant capybara, some beavers, a rabbit riding a flying bomb and some pistol and cup of tea wielding WW2 women from Bad Squiddoo Games. the capybara’s in resin but the others are all metal, will be the first metal minis I’ve painted for about 30 years. No idea what I’m going to do with them but I can’t wait to get them done, already trying to think of some Warcry rules for the animals...

I am venturing into madness. I'm clipping and filing the shield pegs (and slottas) off of 50 metal Dwarf Hammerers. And I'm making press-mold bases for them all with oven-bake Sculpey on MDF bases (so the base can go right in the oven with the clay, which you can't do with plastic bases let me tell you I learned the hard way). And then I'm putting together a TERRIBLE Cities of Sigmar army in 100% metal. 40 Ironbreakers, 50 Hammerers, 20 "Handgunners" (proxies from Long Drong Slayer Pirates), and about a dozen metal "Warden Kings" (various Bugmans, White Dwarfs, 3rd party Dwarf Lords, and GW ones) and Runelords. ETA: 43 Hammerers down, 7 to go. And are my hands ever sore hahaha

Dwarven home finished for now. Human inn next, then elven building. Maybe I'll open the building up later to make it a smithy, though it's really not made for that. Learned a lot, and already changed a few things in the next one.
