  2. We go round and round on this whenever the GW schedule gets particularly weird (which right now it seems that way bc of the SoB gap and everyone wanting Seraphon). Even a simple two month out release schedule would go a long way towards being a reasonable retailer. And I think the answer to your question is actually pretty simple. The advantage to GW for not treating customers like cash bags (with no impulse control) would be long term loyalty (as you point out). I think you are being a bit too dismissive in your thoughts on the value there, because at some point soon 3d printers are going to be a real threat to GW. Once that happens, brand loyalty will be a thing. I think you have been around long enough to remember the bad old days when GW started actually losing to Privateer Press/Warmachine and X Wing. That happened for a reason. And GW came back for a reason also, they seemed to be making and doing things their customers wanted. This is such a small thing, with potentially big payoff both for GW and for us.

  3. The Sphiranx and the Fonoroid can have their uses ^^ I also couldn’t resist the Ogroid Myrmidon - I even build an army list around him, just so I could use him in a meaningful manner (I‘ll get stomped but whatever xD)

  4. I like the way GW handle releases. They are more open with what's coming out and give regular updates and teases. I can't see any retailer giving a release schedule for months in the future as things can change and if you know X is coming in 3 months time, you may not buy Y coming out next week, simple business practice.

  5. Nothing wrong with Made to Order weeks. I'm not fussed about this one, since its just imperial guard, but they've done some great fantasy and Lord of the Rings runs over the last year or so. We'll get the seraphon book soon enough. Its just a matter of time.

  8. Also in the schedule, a persistent rumor is that there is a 40k dual army box coming with the next PA Ork vs space wolves, with their respective leaders. Side note: I couldn't resist to spiranx and formroid, ordered both despite knowing that they are almost useless. But they look so damn good in a StD army! (especially here: )

  9. I generally agree with Craze's post above. Overall Sylvaneth are not doing very well on the table top at tournaments. I think this boils down to us having a fair book while being a very difficult army to pilot correctly. On top of that, the current book gives you the space to play the army in many different and viable ways. Want more damage? Winterleaf. Want restoration and magic? Gnarlroot. Want teleportation and surprise? Dreadwood. Want to charge all day? Harvestboon. Having so many options only makes list building more challenging but I think it gives the book a huge amount of flexibility. To that end, I think Sylvaneth have pretty solid matchups against DoT and OBR. I played DoT (not change host) and felt well equipped to answer their problems. Same with OBR, I haven't seen Nagash OBR (which does concern me) but artillary and mortek heavy was easy to manage. You'll probably see most people playing Winterleaf. I'd expect minimum 9 kurnoth hunters in a list. You'll probably see Outcast battalion and some spite revenants. Treelord ancient is becoming more popular. Then most lists tend to have a pet unit in Durthu or Drycha or Allarielle. Other glades that are floating around in larger numbers seem to be Gnarlroot and Dreadwood. A lot of folks are pretty down on the trees and for fair reasons. In most YouTube tier list videos they're sitting near the bottom (stats shows like the Honest Wargamers show similar trends). I'm a bit more optimistic and I feel they are right in the middle of the pack (and better off then some other tomes). It's a flexible book and an army that is exceptional at playing the objectives. When I play my list I usually feel like I have a line of play that can win me the game. Sometimes the line is slim and sometimes it's wide but I love that Sylvaneth always make me feel like I'm in it. For these reasons I think a top list under a top player can go 4-1 at a big event and even 3-0 something local. Stats show a much worse trend but I think that comes back to this being a hard army to master, it's certainly not an army I'd recommend as someone's first.

  10. Couple of updates from my post last week. First off I've managed to create a bridge and work out how to fix the Ironclad. Sadly I've not been able to attach it purely from the side and going to have to use a couple of pieces of acrylic rod to keep it stable. Not going to lie, it's not really what I wanted, however the practical part of my brain had to win on this as I wasn't prepared to dismantle what I'd done and this will need to be transported up to Birmingham in a car (and then carried). There are going to be chains from the end of the bridge attaching it to the silo (the chains are on order) and I'm also going to attach a fuel pump from the silo to the main Endrin - but that can't be done until the actual Ironclad is glued in place. Saturday wasn't the most productive of days, however I did have a play in Photoshop with colour schemes: Sunday was a lot more productive - somewhere, somebody was smiling on me as I managed to dodge the wind and the rain for just long enough to get some undercoat onto some pieces! This meant that I was able to paint up the "inner silo" piece that sits behind the hole in the top section of the silo. I also know that 90% of this is going to be hidden from view... Getting this largely done will mean that I can actually make progress on some of the other pieces. I'm going to go back and try and add some more colour into the metallics as looking at them in the cold light of day, they're quite flat. I think a dark green added into the shadows of the pipes will help to add some depth to them. I need to think about what to add to the silver as I'm deliberately steering away from browns/rust (those Duardin aren't going to let things rust!) The silo itself got a light dusting of undercoat so that I could spot any blemishes (and there are some). One of the challenges I've found with the sector mechanicus scenery is that the models aren't quite as sharp as a regular miniature. What I mean by this is that because the pieces are large they're prone to a little bit of warping, so the edges don't join together as cleanly as you'd like. It's nothing that can't be fixed with some putty/filler and fine sandpaper, but a light dusting of undercoat highlights the areas that need attention.

  11. From the core rules: So they're definitely part of the army. I think them not getting artefacts etc is from them not being able to "use or benefit from" the allegiance abilities. But I would say that for being taken into account during Scions they're not using or benefiting. They just exist. I think for them not to be counted it would need to be something more like "are ignored for the purposes of allegiance abilities". Further, I think the Scions rule specifying STORMCAST ETERNALS for the units that can use it but not for the units on the board is pretty telling.

  13. I suddenly realised why next week's preorder is so lacklustre. The black library is on February 29th. Gw will be shipping a bunch of black library stuff to stores that weekend. If you compare the same dates last year you will see a similar thing. As for a route map we do know quite a bit about upcoming releases. We know that 40k engine war and the new aeronautica imperialis are coming in April. We know that the next wave of sisters and the saga of the beast for 40k are coming in March. We have a zoat coming sometime. Aside from from Lumineth and Seraphon, I can't think of anything else which has been officially announced. We have the New York toy fair this weekend which may show something and we have Gama starting on March 9th which may show something more. If I was going to bet on a preorder schedule I would say February 29th Seraphon March 7th Sisters March 14th side games release-zoat etc. March 21st Saga of the beast with Ghazghull March 25th Adepticon with full Lumineth reveal and Sons of Behemat tease. March 28th Lumineth. April more Lumineth, Engine war and Aeronautica. May Sons of Behemat and war of the spider for 40k

  14. Both Tolkien and Moorcock sort of reinforced that whole "dieing Elder race" trope. In Tolkien's work, the elves were already diminishing and preparing to travel to the west. This colored a good chunk of early fantasy, especially Dungeons and Dragons. However, as has been stated earlier, Moorcock's work is what really shaped Warhammer. And Moorcock basically wrote the End Times before GW did. Elric, his most famous character, was basically Teclis if Teclis had a soul-eating vampiric sword that empowered him instead of a staff, and he was basically the Phoenix King, but had to abandon the throne because he was forced to kill his lover, who was also his cousin. Was it mentioned that Moorcock wrote Elric back in the 60's? An amazing read though for any one who likes either of the fantasy Warhammer settings.

  15. They already have long term loyalty, 30+ years of success, and amaaaaazing returns for investors. Honestly, this recurring, periodic grousing over what they should and should not be doing with "roadmaps" or the like is pointless and tedious.

  16. That's fine for me (as of what we know so far). I just would find it more interesting if they for once would also be more vigorous and expand, and not always on the verge of extinction (but this never having any true meaning anyway as Spyderguy says) from the start. Also in AOS they aren't really a "Eldar" race which is older than the others and peaked way in the past. In a way they are more of a younger race here which developed their culture relatively recently compared to others. Although we don't know when the Reinvention happened, but likely not long before the Age of Chaos.

  17. I'd be cool with summonable elementals, I dont know if I really want a unit of light elementals, unless its knights on light elemental dragons. then I would buy that up in a heartbeat I cant second this enough, I agree so much. I am so tired of the dying elves trope that gets recycled over and over again... especially in a game where thousands of them die all the time but there is never really any dent in the population... are they really dying at that point.

  18. Thanks for all the replies! Some updates! The Splintered Fang emerge from the swamps of Ghyran! I tried to give them swampy bases. I love the shield wall pose! Also managed to complete a Chimera! I tried to give it more natural colours than the Games Workshop 'universe of stars Chimera'. I recently finished painting Gotrek Gurnisson. I always enjoyed his novels, and love the idea of him roaming the Varanspire searching for something dangerous to fight. I'll try and get some pictures of him this week. I'd also like to upload some scenic photos I've taken of different warbands fighting over painted scenery. Next on the painting table is Galrauch the a chaos dragon and a Jabberslythe. Hope I get them done soon!

  20. Matorea The peninsula of Matorea is located in the northwest area of the realm of Ghyran . It is a large area and filled with a diverse population of duardin, aelf kin and humans. A city state formed around a realm gate that leads to Hyshon the southern point of the peninsula. It’s become an affluent port and important enough to have a chamber of Knights Exclesior permanently stationed to coordinate defence and expansion. The city-state loves its powder weapons and holds a Graywater Fastness affiliation. In and under any paradise, there are things that don’t want you to live and prosper. That despise any grip or rationality that you can master over your domain. Greenskins in unwavering numbers, gitz and squigs galore, skaven and beastmen to reek havoc cause they can, and of course, when you think walls can always keep them out, there’s Tzeentch to change the game plan. Against this is the Matorean League. Aelves, duardin, humans and Stormcast in an effort against the ceaseless desire to destroy. This is the backdrop for my AoS world. The Matorean world was borrowed from the Border Princes land from WFB. All the above armies exist in AoS style except the tzeentch. I will add maw tribes and the new Aelven from Hysh as it goes on. Added in for context Protagonist’s so far: The Matorean Chamber - Knights Exclesior 1170 pts The Matorean League - Cities of Sigmar - Graywater Fastness 2490 pats Antagonist’s so far: Krasbog’s Gitz - Gloomspite Gitz 2480 pts Almemnal’s Horrrors- Tzeentch Deamons 2470 puts Shivertooth’s HeadBangers - Orruk Warclan 2500 pts GitStuffed’s Clan of Rats and Beasts - chaos clash of skaven and beastmen - 1700 pts It’s a beginning 😸

  21. I can’t speak for everyone of course but in my case, I’d rather the Lumineth be Aelves which ride monsters or work with some cool stuff like Spiderguy mentioned above than their elites being monstrous units themselves. More like the Idoneth and less like the Sylvaneth or Daughters. But I wouldn’t mind if there is some cool Hysh spirit, light dragon, elemental or something like that among them. I just hope they don’t go with the - the Lumineth are already almost extinct and rely on animated warriors and spirits because of numbers - thing. I’d really like to have some expanding elves for once. That’s kind of the only thing I really don’t feel nostalgic about.

  23. Don't forget Old World sales also increased when GW started the End Times event. Old World was a dying duck mostly because GW was missmanaging it and their community and customer relations at the time. GW was making mistakes and not really listening to their consumer base which was part of why Old World was on the down. AoS was a management driven idea that had some good points ,but even that made massive changes and sparked a massive management change at GW. Don't forget AoS at launch was resoundly trashed by wargamers at large and wasn't selling well. That's not to devalue and say that those who DID like it then are bad or wrong; just that they represented a smaller market than GW wanted. Plus GW alienated a big chunk of their market at the same time. Right now though we are approaching a time when GW might have two great games run at the same time in fantasy - 3 if you also include Lord of the Rings. That's a great thing and we should be really happy that GW is listening to the market, to customers and providing options and ideas and bringing back a game that people did and continue to love with great passion. Dont' forget AoS is only 5 or so years old. Old World was closer to 30 and many gamers didn't just fall into it, they grew up with it.

So I have done a lot and posted nothing the army now is fully painted an based, I'll leave here a group shot and try to add better photo later: And I've begin to convert a new unit, they will represent auric Hearthguard. In the bg they are bodyguard and troops of the runemaster, so I have tried to give them a sort of warrior/shaman style, and more stoic poses. The left hand are engulfed in flame to represent the ranged attack and their magical powers, in the other hand I will put the stormcast evocators staff: C&c welcomed

  34. I've got my Blood Bowl team in, should make for some expressive Kharadron dudes. The footballs themselves are going to work quite well as bombs, and the rugby jerseys with straps, painted up right, look quite a bit like an Arkanaut body. Maybe even Thunderer for the heaviest dudes. I also want to take the braids of the spare heads, and use them on female Kharadron. Thinking of using Sisters of Battle bodies for it (replacing the legs with much shorter ones), but they are a bit heavily armoured, and might fit disposessed better. Which would fit a Valaya theme better. Still, a few will fit an airship

  36. On another note, Ive come up with a macabrely romantic backstory for my upcoming court and my girlfriend’s Nighthaunt. Giving the backbone of the story. A King and Queen once ruled a fairly prosperous kingdom, but the Queen fell ill and died. The King fell into despair and eventually desperation. He isolated himself, speaking to none but his closest advisors, his most loyal knights, and his two younger siblings... and even then, only rarely. Without their monarch, the kingdom started to decline in its prosperity. The king poured over tomes of arcane knowledge, but he found nothing that could bring his beloved back. On the eve that he decided to take his own life, a stranger cloaked in shadow appeared in his chambers. He offered the King a way to bring back his dearest queen’s soul, but the price would be costly. The ritual he offered to teach required the sacrifice of his wife’s section of the court. The king, weakened by desperation and many a sleepless night, and thus susceptible to the madness radiating off of the stranger, agreed without hesitation. The ritual was a success, but not in the context that the king was promised. The souls of the sacrificed courtiers came screaming back from the realm of death, and with them, the spirit of his beloved wife appeared before him. The madness had already taken root in the king’s mind; he did not see horrific apparitions, but his Queen, as she was before she died, still beautiful and perfect, surrounded by her closest court members. His delusion was so powerful, that even the returned spirits saw themselves as the king did. The king was overjoyed and gave innumerable thanks to the shadowy stranger, who the king saw as completely benevolent. He asked how he could ever repay this kindness, for giving him back the one thing he held most dear. The stranger told him there was, indeed, one way... He revealed to the king that he sought to spread his legacy of magical knowledge to a worthy successor. In his travels, the stranger noted that only the king had proven capable of handling his art. There was but one final gift he had to give to him: his blood. With it, not only could the king fully harness the subtleties of the stranger’s magic, but he would evade his inevitable mortal end. The king would rule eternal next to his queen, and resume his reign of endless prosperity for his people. Overjoyed, he agreed once more. Imbibing the stranger’s blood brought upon a gruesome transformation, finishing what the madness started. He became a vampiric abomination, yet he did not see it this way. He saw himself back in his youthful prime, fit and strong, untouched by old age. He turned to eagerly thank the stranger yet again, but he had vanished. With his queen by his side, he broke his seclusion and summoned his younger brothers into his chambers. His grief-stricken siblings were at first appalled, but quickly joined their brother and sister-in-law in madness, as they were no match for the dark powers he now possessed. He spread his gift to them, and soon to his most loyal court. Upon his emergence, he witnessed what his absence and neglect had done to his kingdom. His lands were ravaged by invaders and famine. His people had since turned to scavenging and cannibalism. The king did not see them as starving aberrations, just as he did not see himself as the Abhorrant Archregent he had become; he did, however, see them suffering. With a wave of command, he set his court to gather both his people and whatever bounty they could find, and he had them brought before him. He organized a lavish feast, an event to unite his people once again. He shared the blessed wine of his blood with old champions and knight-captains alike, elevating them into Varghulfs and Haunters. On that night, at that feast, he ordered the ordering of the Scions of the Gryphon, a sect of holy knights that were to become the King’s angelic enforcers after taking a piece of the sacred gryphon into themselves. In reality, they dined upon the flesh of a Terrorgheist, and in doing so transformed into the first Flayers and Infernals of the Court. No matter the knight, no matter the champion or serf, they all saw themselves as returned to their glory days. The feast resulted in the king’s madness fully claiming the minds of all in his kingdom. There was not a single individual that did not see the dilapidated ruins as the ornate townships they once had been, nor see themselves as anything but just and proud serfs and soldiers. The offal they supped upon was nothing but the finest foods gathered from across the land. The ghastly banshees and chainrasps flitting ethereally among them were but the queen’s own guards and handmaidens, distributing the bounty all across the kingdom. And so, the king looked upon his people and smiled. In his heart, however, he knew that this paradise could not go unguarded. Barbarians from the outside would covet his prosperity, as they had done so before. He could not fail his people again. This time, he would fight alongside them, and lead them to victory. So began the reign of King Veindrinker.

  38. Not my picture but you can see that they're pretty similar in size - the new models are a tiny bit bigger (a perfect comparison is the guy with chopped off elf's head as he's got the almost same exact stance) but what differentiates them more are more pleasing proportions. Their heads are smaller, their legs longer and thinner, their boots and hands are less comical and son and on...

  43. 1. Not that they’ve said, though similar bits are available in the azyrite ruins sets. 2. Main thing is don’t glue the stairs onto anything. Keep them loose, as if you want to field the scenery as in the terrain cards, these can go anywhere. Second thing is that often the statue head is pictured without the platform on top, so you might not want to glue that; but tbh I ended up gluing mine anyway, just for stability, so anytime I put the head down it has a platform on top. Not been a big deal; and you are not asked to put the platform down without the head ever. 3. Absolutely. Either by substituting similar pieces for what is pictured on the cards, or just by ignoring the terrain cards and putting down a custom, random, or mutually constructed configuration before victory conditions are drawn. 4. Not sure what you mean - the cypherlords as built on the box come to 965 points, I think? Are you mistaking mirrorblades for mindbounds? I don’t play them personally. But if you want to grow your warband as part of a campaign, or give you more build options, then yes, a second box is advisable; or, as you say, looking at allies and monsters. 5. Hadn’t really noticed!

  44. Keep in mind that Warcry allows to have more than one warband and rotate them when you feel like you'd like to change things up a bit. I mean if you feel like you get tired of shooting things, avoiding getting hit and want to jump into the fray and smack faces with a big axe then having both of them is the best way to go. Also, you are the only one who knows what you like. You don't need us to tell you what you like
    1 point
  45. Also, from my limited experience, a balanced warband will help you out with all the different types of Victory (and Twist?) cards. Some favour speed, others strength or toughness.

  46. take kharadron as you only need an arkanaut company and maybe a squad of the balloons or the rifle dudes, as long as you dont play hardcore shooting builds and split melee / shooting, everything is fine. and grab the beasts of chaos pack, just in case you like to take an other approach to the game.

  47. Honestly.... why not both ? I started with one warband. Now I have 4. Now truth is 2 of those I have as a full fledged AoS army as well, so all I needed was the card packs, but I still got two more warbands. Corvus cabal > my TRUE Warcry warband, made for warcry, balanced for warcry. 2 boxes so I can play two Shrike talons because they look amazing but so does the whole warband, and are effective for the price tag. Also did I say they look amazing ? Untamed Beast > Stand in for my BoC, when Warcry launched and nobody was sure if its gonna be a standalone game or if the AoS armies will be included (wish they never were, it broke the games balance horribly). Got the cards pack at a discounted price. Played them 3/4 times. Dont like em, and now hat I got proper BoC cards these guys wont see table at all since I used Beastmen miniatures as proxy for them anyway. DoK - I have about 1500-2K DoK army for Aos. Just got the cards. Like em for fun matches, despite the warband being pathetically weak as they are in Warcry. BoC - My TRUE non Warcry warband. Love em. Will play them a lot. Hell maybe even more than my Corvus Cabal, simply because I love Beastmen and now that they have proper cards, I no longer need to use the Untamed Beast one as stand in. The cards packs are limited one time investment. Limited > yes, there wont be anymore cards once the current batch is fully sold out, this is official info, not my assumption. So honestly, buy both Card Packs if you have the option to do so. You can then buy models for the one you want to start with, and after you`ve had your fill and want to try something new, you are all set and go (you can proxy the miniatures, or maybe buy them second hand for cheaper if money is the issue, since you dont need that many for Warcry anyway.).

  48. For a starter warband, you want a bit of everything so you can figure out your preferred playstyle. If models are no object, I’d go for something like: Bestigor hero Bestigor Bullgor with 2-hander dragon ogor with 2 weapons 2 ungors with bows 3 gors with 2 weapons 990 pts If you don’t have any models yet, however, I’d get a box of Bullgors (or a box of dragon ogors, if you prefer the look) and a box of ungors (again, or gors) to start with, will give you a good range of options. The underworlds (beastgrave) BoC warband will also give you some beautiful models that are all useful, although only available in the starter set at the moment I think.
