    Despite GW being genuinely so much better the past few years, you can still figure out why they do things just by asking, what makes the most money for the company? If GW was everyone's friend with no regard for the business side, they would have released the digital version of the Sylvaneth battletome along with that delay announcement, or shortly thereafter when it became clear that late meant REAL late. But, I think its clear they believe that will impact the sales of the hardcopy, so they haven't. I would bet that whenever they do get the books and models in, it will get slotted into a previously open spot rather than double up or push another release. The Sylvaneth release is already late, why lose more money (from their perspective)? I don't blame them for this, they literally have a duty to shareholders that trumps many other considerations. But, I do think in general a slightly more cynical than the all-is-perfect-and-rosy attitude that GW's brilliant PR department has cultivated would be helpful when thinking about why they do what they do.

    Hi, following my first posting of 2 photos in the Troggoth discussion and encouraged by the kind likes given (thankyou), I have decided to post some more photos from the same batch. I enjoy looking at other's hobby so why not offer some of my own. I will try for a better set up with more lighting in the future, but this is my first attempt so I hope you bear with me.

    The models and the story-line (even if it was dropped). The High Elves were split up by their gods in the End Times and perished with the others but that's where the story gets interesting. With the creation of the realms and the rebirth of the Aelves they spread across the newly created mortal realms and prospered, eventually Tyrion and Teclis returned and rejoiced at discovering their kin recreated. The returned gods recounted the glories of old. New kingdoms were raised in the image of what once was and thus began the Highborn's last golden age. The rest is supposition but it's based on where T&T weren't and what they didn't do, and the logical consequences of this. The Age of Chaos was to end this- as enclave after enclave, land after land fell, those that remained realised too late that they had been abandoned, they had gods but none that would aid them when they needed it most. When the hordes of chaos crushed the glittering kingdoms created in the image of remembered glory Tyrion and Teclis were nowhere to be seen. Those that fled to Azyr were all that would survive. Long ages the gates of Azyr remained closed while Sigmar and Grungni forged the Stormhosts, the remnants of the Highborn splintered and searched for other powers- some turned to the Ur-Phoenix, pledging their lives and souls to something they do not understand - and after joining can never question, while others formed martial cults around the icons of the past (the white lions, and the dragon lords) but none of these are the actions of a people that believe they have a future. With the reopening of the gates and the realmgate wars the various cults and factions of the Aelves travelled with them and then came the next great neglect from their gods. Teclis desperate to recreate the Aelves of old spawned the deepkin before turning from them like he did from the Highborn. So that's where it leaves the Aelves in the mortal realms at the current stage of the story, these wouldn't be the glittering hosts of the old world, arrogant and used to fighting from a position of overwhelming superiority -instead the Aelves of this age would be a desperate and broken revenant of their former glory clinging to existence andf trying to claw a future out where they can. But ultimately they are the same Asur of old, the speed, might, and arcane prowess but pushed to the wall and forced to make difficult choices, and drawing power from sources best left well alone.

    Happy to say that I've actually started to get colours onto these models - which is good as I've only 5 weekends between now and Blackout (and two of those are actually taken up with commitments). So, the colours applied so far are just contrast paint - though thinned with medium and applied in two coats. As with a GW shade, this gives a much better finish than a single coat, although annoyingly does double the time taken (though still quicker than a traditional colour). The warm weather over the weekend certainly didn't help either, and I know there are a couple of "caught" patches where the paint had started to dry but I hit it with the brush. That said the new Grey Seer undercoat went on super smooth (unlike Corax White, which would have gone powdery). I've also undercoated everything apart from my Necromancer on foot (I'd like to find an alternative head) and given it a zenithal white from the airbrush. This makes a massive amount of difference as Grey Seer saps the vibrancy out of the contrast paints. I have managed to "upgrade" my painting handle blocks too - with a self-adhesive metal disc. This means that it's simplicity itself to swap models over. You may wonder why I'm doing this rather than buying 10 GW painting handles? Two reasons, firstly my wooden blocks and metal bits cost less than £20 (equivalent GW would be £40 if ordered from a third party), secondly a wooden block won't fall over, whereas GW handles tend to be top heavy. There is still part of me that's quite worried I've bitten off a lot more than I can chew. I certainly know that I'm not going to get everything highlighted up in time for the event. Reikenor and the Mortis Engine do worry me as they're both massive models and I'm not sure how I'm going to paint them up yet. I'm hoping that once I've got more models done, I may have a flash of inspiration... I'm also keeping my fingers crossed that the next month or so isn't too hot - a long period of 30+ degrees will scupper any possibility of getting everything done!

    The backstabbing, betrayal, weapons to kill anything from goblins to god. The way they speak-chitter. What they see and think of other races, their way of warfare, hordes, and hordes of body’s overwhelming anything in their way. their corrupted council, manipulated by something far worse., Engineering that seems impossible and risky to men and beardthings. a danger that cannot be stopped and is lurking beneath everybody, waiting for the time to rise-scurry. and last but not least “Warpstone” the substance of truly manifested chaos. And this is basically the reason why I enjoy and have enjoyed the skaven for the last 11years

    About Wanderers: The Models for sure, - currently I could not see myself collecting any other army ( Beastmen maybe). Otherwise just accept that you will most likely loose to Battletome-Armies. However it feels so much more rewarding when you actually manage to win something or grind towards a tie on points. The Underdog Feeling is maybe the best thing about them.

    I did in the last two surveys but as it's a feature not a bug I was almost certainly wasting my time. This isn't a one off incident- the strategy they have decided to use in AoS is to remove old models from the keyword of the main army. Look at the compendium wood elves waywatchers (which have beautful models) and compare the usability in a wanderers army (where including them would remove your allegiance putting an already weak army at a crushing disadvantage) with my index Rough Riders for my Imperial Guard in 40k (which just give me a slightly sub par unit when I use them). This isn't something they don't know about, it's the strategy the two different teams chose to pursue, the 40k team is more customer focused ('use your old stuff if you want but don't you want to buy these awesome new plastic sisters?' - spoiler: I do) and the AoS team is more sales focused (buy new stuff or lose).

    After a year of procrastination decide to return to my nighthaunt army. The biggest problem for me as always - choosing a color scheme. Standard blue or green schemes is too common and I haven`t got enough skill for pink and black scheme which I chose a year ago. So only now I find satisfying color scheme for me - simple and impressive enough. All in all I pain 4 chainrasps for 2 days. C&C are always welcome! More pics on my instagram tref_painting

    I think one thing that plays to our advantage and little seem to talk about is the command point changes. And to add onto the Desolators conversation, we can now reroll 1s to hit for a whole unit of dracothian guard. If you take 4 units you can reroll 1s for 8 models shooting a d3 mortal wound attack, not to mention we can do that on 1s in melee as well. A lot of armies have baked in scrolls that allow for rerolls but Sce eally don't, I think it's a small change along with the point changes that is really going to benefit us. That being said I totally agree.... I hate playing gimmicky Lists and I hate being forced to play one to be competitive. That being said I was playing a list prior to these updates that had a stardrake shooting and spells and it was by far my most successful of 2018 and that's playing 2-3 nights a week and tournaments. Play around with different things and don't always pay attention to what everyone else takes. This army is a lot of turn based decisions and awaiting the perfect opportunities to make your moves and not playing hyper aggressive; which I like. Wins come harder, but feel satisfying when you win games you feel like were difficult on paper

    I'll be shocked if Sylvanath is the only order tome this year - there's still a good 6 months or so and I'd wager that's at least 5 or more additional Tomes to come for AoS. Just like how last year Codex were coming heavy for 40K, this year its AoS's turn in the light. AoS as a product needs to get more armies with Battletomes so that companion products and marketing (eg skirmish) can be fruitful. Right now GW has too many armies that don't even have a Battletome or have a very out of date one. Both those hinder purchasing. Heck look at how Slaves to Darkness still has its Christmas Bundle on sale from the GW stores around the world. All the others sold out very fast, but that don't didn't. Slaves has no Battletome at all, not even an old first edition of AoS one. So there's far less interest in them as an army, which means far fewer sales for GW. Getting that Battletome out means increased sales, increased popularity and thus increase revenue. GW knows this, they just have to invest, afford and slot it all into release and production slots. I don't think GW is winding down at all, if anything they'll be winding up. Of course many will be just battletomes and terrain/spells. They won't all have big mode releases and that is fine. Even just the Tome at least gives rules and confidence that the army will remain. As for lore things, even in big lore events one should never read too far into them. Heck look how often Cathay or Araby or Nippon get mentioned in Old World lore and books. Some very big mentions, sometimes forming the cornerstone of short stories for major heroes. And yet the closest GW got was one Araby army in Warmaster. So always be careful with such hints, they might result in big events and such but they do not always translate to new models,

    So uh, can't you just use both over different units? As long as you do the bases correctly it will look ok since they contrast each other so well. Honestly though both look good.

    So you thought it was great fun to play with an actually unkillable model? Morathi can deploy in the first deployment and transform - there is no other first deployment that stands a chance against her. And she is capable of clearing deployments on her own. I'm going to be very honest here, I highly doubt you actually played Morathi - if you had there is 0 chance you'd think ME was balanced. The only way you may have played her is if your opponent was brain dead enough to not send her in the first wave (which is entirely legal and one of the best possible strategies to use in ME). I also played HoS in ME this weekend and overwhelmed my opponent with summoning - at 1,000 points, especially with staggered deployment I was able to generate DP so quickly and summon in new heroes to generate more DP that the game was basically over once I'd summoned twice. ME is incredibly unbalanced if your goal is to game it - it an be a lot of fun but its by no means a good vessel for competitive play.

    Trying to decide between these two color schemes for my grots. I like the contrast of the yellow skin tone with the blue robes but I also love the brightness of the orange. What do you all think.

    I played a game of Meeting Engagements last week against a GA Order army (effectively mixed dawi plus a regular hurricanum). A buddy wanted to try things out, and I was itching for a game. We played The Raid, with my army being: 1x of each hero besides the Spellweaver (don't have her yet) 10 WWR 2X20 Glade Guard NnP general, with Forget-Me-Knot and better teleport, 40 points left over for a triumph. Got the one with battleshock immunity, and it saved my Glade Guard that took a bunch of damage from his Hurricanum while I didn't have CP available. Neither of us had read the battleplans before we started, I put one unit into each contingent with two heroes in the main body. He had frontloaded his spearhead with Grundstok Thunderers that arrived much later into the game than he had anticipated. We fought it out to a draw, not being able to keep a hold of more than two objectives until scoring, and alternating who scored on kill points. I find myself liking the "slow burn" style that ME offers, and while I can get overwhelmed with a larger number of units on the field, creating a plan with 2-3 units and adding on new units turn by turn was completely managable.

    Happy to say that I've largely done most of my targets! The one I didn't complete was painting up the battleline options - although as my pics show, I've got the main colours down on them. Sadly time commitments and the weather both consipired against me to get them actually completed 😕 (WIP pics in this thread)

    Khorne - in particular mortals. I have been playing khorne for 3 years or so. When I was looking to get back into the game I was browsing and came across a page which called then an engaging army to play. Which they are with all the synergies and buffs. They were/ are an easy army to start but also an easy army to get wrong. There is a huge number of models (mortals, daemons and Slaves) and ways to build the army - this makes them a collector and narrative players dream. There is a great let’s chat here and also the Facebook group I find very open. But the moment I really got them was my first 2k game playing open war cards, with a single objective that needed to be taken and brought back home. I managed to win in a great game that involved a buffed up khorgorath running home with the objective while my opponent threw everything to stop it. Since then I have had a load of games and refined my list, made conversions and got lots of options. I’ve played a lot of armies, and would like to think won more than I have lost. I can’t imagine not playing them or a variant there or in the future.

    So after a few months of testing I found the only way to play khorne competatively. Scarbrand Unfettered fury: artefact that allow you to fight first on 4+ Wrath of Khorne Insensate rage: General with command trait and artefact of reapers of vengence 30xbloodreavers Bloodsecrator Slaughterpriest: blood sacriface Wrath axe So you have one command point in the pocket for 50 points. One for batallion. One at the start of your turn. Blood sacrifice will allow you to convert some blood points in command points during first turns. That allow you to stack more points before actual fight. So it works that way: hide behind screen of reavers and then counter attack. Scarbrand will provide 32-64 mortal wonds depends on you rolls. Big axe thirster can spam mortal wound around. Wrath can give rerolls to Insensate rage and Scarbrand (others do not needed them). And Fury will not allow some units to retreat, allow others and himself to pile in one 6 inches (good against Slaanesh) and on 4+ even on enemy's turn you can fight first. And thirsted will hit one by another. In some ways it beat: Legions of Nagash Nighthaunts Stormcast without shooting Ghouls Beasts of Chaos Scaven But there are still too many countermatchups and strong bound to 4+ roll and double turns. And everything around here is a glass cannon, mostly expensive one. But I don't know any other way to play Khorne now.

    And if I had one FAQ wish, it would be for all Battleline to be recyclable through the shrine. Currently the only thing you can recycle is the most powerful and least fun. Would love to see that rectified.

    This was probably because potato cam pictures of the tome and spells were leaked beforehand and then the delay happened so they were forced to address it since once something is leaked a release usually isn't that far behind, if there wasn't a leak we honestly wouldn't even know there was anything coming for Sylvaneth or that they was any kind of delay in releases for that matter.

    We don't know when it's being released and we don't know if they have their shipment yet. Also they didn't have to tell us anything about the delay, they never announced the sylvaneth release it was in response to a leak. If they were able to release it I imagine they would, I want to get my hands on the book as well but everything that's happened seems to be out of GW's control.

    Bit of a slow week but making some progress: Boltthrower crew are done. Still need grass but should probably varnish them first. Got myself some of the GameZone elf spearmen and they are exceptionally nice sculpts- not sure how to keep my red and white scheme going without risking making them look like Father Christmas, though. Surprised I wasn't able to find pictures of these before because they really are fantastic. Probably going to use them as Eternal Guard - they fit the phalanx rule nicely. And have some mage support because an automatic unbind and a little resurrection is never bad.

    So basically it comes down to the exact wordings of both abilities. Locus of diversion says "...fights at the end of the next combat phase." And "...would allow them to fight at the start of the next combat phase..." Smashing and bashing on the other hand says "...that has not yet fought in the combat phase can fight, instead of doing so later in the phase." So the only condition here is that the unit hasn't fought. Smashing and bashing doesn't care when in the combat phase you "should" activate, only that you haven't done so yet. As an example, if you use the hysh command ability to activate an ironjawz unit at the start of the combat phase then wipe a unit out. You can still trigger smashing and bashing despite the fact it's the start of the combat phase and nothing else should be able to activate in the start. Essentially smashing and bashing ignores and takes precedent over all other sequencing rules.

It is an avatar of the hunt homemade : "The Courtisans of Azhya would usually denigrate the "forest people", considered primitive and inferior : hermit stormcasts, revenants, spirits and other dryads, though the City never hesitated to call it to swell the ranks of stormbushes when needed. However, it was a spirit that had been able to impose itself and to be admitted to the heart of this whimsical and proud Court, its best asset, it is true, having been the fear it inspired. Kurnarhous had a shady and willingly warlike character and declared himself a representative of the so-called "forest people" and no one had dared to question the title for fear of his wrath. Strangely similar to the Kurnoth Hunters, his humanoid body, however, harbored the wildest rumors about his origins, willingly linking it to a resurrection Orion, a true deity who crisscrossed the forest of Athel Loren in the old world. His pride, like his peers, also led him to wrap himself in draperies designed in the finest Elven fabrics, jewelry forged in the most precious metals, while his perfectly shining armor shone constantly as if to dazzle soul that would lay eyes on him. Kurnarhous is particularly quick to go to battle with his enchanted weapon, which he handles with unsuspected dexterity at the sight of his physical build. He remains today still one of the most assiduous defenders of Azhya and allows the City to be able to raise significant osts of spirits and other creatures of the undergrowth to guarantee its relative tranquility." Based on Syll Esske, I made kitbashing with some Kurnoth parts. Please telle me what do you think about it Cheers !

    I'm on my phone and on my way home from work, I'll need a real keyboard to respond in kind. Just a few situational points to consider winrates: Does it contain all versions of all Battletomes or just the current one? All pointchanges or just the latest? Is the source cleaned of mirror matchup? Why? Example: Your at a tournament and have 2 mirror matches. Each win for you means one loss for the win rate, which leads to check if the most played faction also has the most mirror matches? Is the devation of good/bad players the same as FEC, since it's a beginners and poster boy army? Is it reasonable to think that mostly good/competitive players switch to new armies and take it to tournaments within month of publication? I do not want to give an answer to these questions, these are just a very very few to ask, and there more.

    So I didn't get round to making a pledge this month, since I was away on holiday for a month, but I do need to post the (almost) finished minis from last month's pledge. 4 bloodthirsters and Scyla. I'm waiting to do the flames until I get my hands on Contrast paints, which look amazing for wet blending.

    I found with blood knights that my preferred way to play is heavy Calvary focused, and the image of fully mounted knights charging into infantry was something I absolutely loved since I saw the Rohan charge into orcs in the lord of the rings movies. plus, after Dan Abnett's run with aquaman and being a fanatic of pirates of the Carribian, sea based armies and creatures are one of my favorite themes. So an army combining these two favorites with eel knights became my favorite faction of AoS; an eel based Idoneth Deepkin army, the first fully painted, based and original AoS army I ever had.

    Yes. You can keep activating your units as long as you keep destroying enemy units.

    So smashing and bashing just says pick an ironjawz unit and activate. It doesn't care when you WOULD activate just that it still has a spare activation in that combat phase. The end of the combat phase is still the combat phase so smashing and bashing overrides it. There is also an faq which says that when two rules abilities directly contradict each other the one which was applied last takes priority. So the loci is applied at the start of the combat phase, then smashing and bashing triggers, you select the unit, the two contradict and S&B was applied after the loci so it takes priority and the unit activates. Basically no matter how you spin the rules smashing and bashing lets you ignore the loci.

    Hey guys, thought I'd post my very first 500 pts army of AoS ever. Ironjawz. Still need to base them though. I know the setup isn't totally optimal with new point changes but I really like the Shaman onwards to 1000 pts.

    Enlightened got reduced because they were the core of a very specific BoC army which was functionally a Tzeentch army in BoC because it had a better allegiance/spell. Definitely not going up especially given that the rockgut kit is so new. They have said that gloomspite is under-performing expectations and they are looking to give us a points decrease. While I would like a points decrease, 10 points wouldn't be unreasonable, I expect the big area we'll get a reduction will be on the Dankholds which are ridiculously overcosted. Also given that the one area of Gloomspite which actually works is the Grot part, with the squig part being viable and the Trogg/Spiderfang parts being close to none entities I can't see the points reductions going anywhere other than Troggs/Spiderfang.

    4 more grotlings for silver tower (they're all painted now only like 50 more models to go in that one and a blightking using some contrast paints and some traditionals for the metal on the weapons/big shoulder spike. Really liked the contrast for yellow, made it rich and i didn't have to build up like six layers to make it pretty. also good for cloth

    Age of Sigmar started out simple enough. But the first General's Handbook changed a lot of things. Suddenly you could personalise a few things for your army with command traits for your general and artefacts for your heroes. Then dropped the first battletomes which included allegiance abilities. And the amount grew rapidly. Because I don't like flipping back and forth in my books for every other ability, I created some cards to help keep the important rules right at the table, beside your models. All cards are available as print files with 3mm bleed and cutting marks, as a 'web' version (for viewing on smartphones/tablets), US letter and DIN A4 printing sheet. each set contains: cover / card backside, Battle Traits, Command Traits, Artefacts, cards for spell lores and faction specific skills card size is 63 x 88 mm (same as Pokemon, Magic, 40k Datacards, etc.) language: English I tried to keep the original wording, but sometimes I had to abbreviate it to fit on the card without scaling down the font size. The rule intentions should still be clear. 'Dice' was continuously replaced with D3 or D6, 'wound roll' with 'To-Wound roll' (same for hit), 'Mortal Wounds' sometimes with 'MW' each set can be stored in a faction specific card box, with contents listed on the back (instructions) If you find any errors or have suggestions, please let me know. I had fun creating these cards and hope people will find them useful and have fun using them in their games.
