  1. updated September 2020: Please note that this originl post is more than 18 month old but as I expand my Death armies, add stuff to the Nighthaunts and build Shyish stuff, its ll added here. So last saturday about 5 in the afternoon I did it I finally reached a fully painted 2000pt army. I gotta say this was a personal goal I have been wanting to do ever since I was a teenager and now 15-20 years later I finally did it. Specially during my teen years but also as an adult have I started painting at least 10 different armies, but until now I have never completed one not even close. So to be honest I kinda expected a crowd giving me a standing ovation, maybe a small brassband playing: ‘we are the champions’ while someone important held a speach for me but non of that happend. Though my wife to be gave me a: “oh thats nice”, when I ran screaming with my t-shirt over my head and victory signs in the air in circles in our livingroom celebrating like some famous athtlete who just won the superbowlchampionsleaguesomethingsomething. Anyway so while I wait for Nike to contact me on some sponsor deals I thought it would be fun to hear from those of you who like me are grown ups with kids/jobs/lives that allows for very little time to paint, how long does it take you to paint an army, how do you fight the evergrowing feeling of hopelessness when batchpainting large units? Whats the fastest you have painting for a descent result? and serioulsly Nike Ive already got the slogan for you. ’You can paint it’ TM. 😉

  5. People are saying that hyping up a new battletome is annoying*, but I just want to say, I would find a new faction a lot less interesting than a KO battletome rewrite. Just saying Edit: hyping up a battletome more than a faction, new battletomes are usually exciting. Spoiled brats

  6. Why not Stormcrabs eternals, crostacean chamber

  7. In seriousness, even if skarbrand can trigger the 8 fairly easily it isn't worse than abilities like hand of dust or curse of years in my opinion.

  9. I will admit I only got into warhammer last year (I had the rogue trader book back in the day but not enough money for figures). I got into it because of kill team. I have like 8 kill teams (AdMech, GSC, BA,StD, IG, RT, Gellerpox, and the Blackstone heroes) now a 2000 point Stormcast Army, close to 2000 Nighthaunt, and almost 1000 points of Khorne. The strategy worked on me.

  11. Lets be fair here and remember that so far this year AoS has had a new army and 2 new battletomes and another one coming out on preorder this coming Saturday - its hardly like AoS is suffering for releases so far this year. And I remember the dark ages when you might have waited a YEAR to get some of that content! And we've got it in 3 months. I just wish GW would learn that customers hate being teased with "news of a news release" type reveals. Sometimes its better to say nothing until you've got something to say; or at least be a little clear on what the nature of an update iwll be even if one isn't going into specifics.

  12. But Skarbrand of all minis should be a rediculous combat monster. You should be terrified to fight against him in close combat. I think it is a good change. You will do the 16 wounds once per battle if you are lucky. Seeing the very next battletome have an anti gristlegore option is interesting. My worry is that a lot of these changes are not op if you are a competent tournament player and are thinking about suitable counters , but might give a bad play experience to Joe casual at their local game store.

  15. Just checking in and posting some of my own conversions so far. My squig pen, count as Loonshrine, my Squigboss, and a token to track where the moon goes made out of the old skull pass shrine and a chunk of resin. Pretty proud of them. Also musing on an interesting list I came up with per a previous discussion. Squigs and Troggs. Here's the list. Allegiance: Gloomspite Gitz Dankhold Troggboss (300) - General - Trait: Mighty Blow - Artefact: Glowy Howzit Fungoid Cave-Shaman (90) - Lore of the Moonclans: Itchy Nuisance 6 x Fellwater Troggoths (320) 3 x Rockgut Troggoths (160) 3 x Rockgut Troggoths (160) 10 x Boingrot Bounderz (200) 1 x Dankhold Troggoths (220) 24 x Squig Herd (280) Mangler Squigs (240) Scuttletide (30) Total: 2000 / 2000 Extra Command Points: 0 Allies: 0 / 400 Wounds: 154 Lots of big bodies with lots of wounds. A support shaman to farm CP. Fast movers in the Mangler and Bounders (still wish I could have fit the stampede), an extra Dankhold for target saturation, and a big block of squigs for chaff and objective control. And of course, Scuttletide. There's some merit to taking say, 15 bounders instead of 10, and a Squigboss instead of the Dankhold, as well. I'll have to tinker with it.

  17. I have been playing WHFB/40K/AoS and other systems for over twenty years and have never produced a painted army. This changes now. I found a scheme online I liked, tweaked it a bit so that it's very airbrush heavy (75% of the effort) and uses washes to do most of the rest of the work. I'm trying to settle on the choice of undertone, blue or green, or keeping a mix of both (maybe even some other tones) for variety. Here are the first two test models:

  18. case in point, GW did release a Greenskinz start collecting box with rebased units, three years later they phased them out. same thing when they release spire of dawn but then phased out the models from the box. so yeah repackage doesn't necessary mean your safe from being retired like with what maybe happening to Glade guards.

  21. It's to mitigate the fact that Total Carnage is no longer unsavable in any way and now just does mortal wounds. I think it's a good change overall.

  22. 16 mortal wounds on a 6. Hmm. That’s quite a design choice.

  23. Congratulations! It's a great achievement to get an army fully painted and I must admit to some eyebrow raising t-shirt over the head celebrations whenever I finish. I don't have kids, or, truth be told, much of a life, so I do try and make time to paint once a day for at least 30 minutes and usually manage a little more. I never batch paint more than six models at a time, before rewarding myself with a character or cavalry model to spice things up a little and I've tended to paint fairly low model count armies. I finished 2,000 points of Stormcast in around 6 months and went on to paint up to 3,220 points of models, along with a few other bits and pieces, last year leaving just 3 Aetherwings, 10 Sequiters and 5 Evocators in my grey pile. In terms of a good finish fast, I'd recommend an airbrush, even if it's just to prime, zenithal highlight and get a base layer or two down. I got a fairly inexpensive one for Christmas and I reckon it's saving at least an hour per miniature. The proof of the pudding is in the eating, so I'll see how long it takes me to paint my next project, but so far so good. Also, let's see some pictures!

  24. Right, I challenge you to have a conversation with your gaming group about some Rumours. Now after a short period of time, is the conversation still on Rumours? You also need to remember that people get excited about the stuff that's coming out and it's okay for them to express themselves about it (that's what this forum is for). Just let the mods poke things back on topic and let us know by either a report or message.

  25. +++ Mod Hat On +++ Just want to remind you to be nice to people on TGA. Just because you aren’t a fan of the way people react to GW reveals, doesn’t mean you have to read or reply in this thread. I do however think GW have gotten to the stage where players expect more when shown stuff.

  26. All these people talking about dealing with losing a game- You merely adopted the loss. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see a victory until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but blinding!

  27. In most cases the differences between Quarrellers and Thunderers is usually only 1-2 wounds even with the Runelord buff on so I find it comes more down to playstyle and aesthetic, personally I like my duardin with boomsticks. Nothing signals the death of something quite like the boom of a duardin handgun. Generally I find having the built in rend -1 on the Thunderers frees me up a little bit to put rend elsewhere in my army where I need it so that I have more widespread rend, this is especially helpful against armies that get better saves when hit with 0 rend weapons as you can negate it (like deathrattle). Speaking of which I just finished up my Ice Warden clan's King and his personal retinue of Thunderers. Anyone who attempts to attack the King are met with a withering hail of handgun fire!

  29. Hey there, Iam going to start this thread posting my progress on painting and building an dark wood elf army and some other minis just to learn or variety. While being in the hobby for about 4 years iam more the painter than player and realy like the artistic part of it. So for my "project", it will be longterm due to not having that much time and the time i spent converting and painting single miniatutes. So i start the thread with the first finished mini and one which is ready to prime. Hang on. Wildhunter and an pathfinder The next pictures will be the bday present to my gf. One of the first more showcase models i painted. Dave

  33. And some really crappy pics of my Court coming from Ulgu, bases are not finished and I might do some touch ups here and there but a race to finish painting to at least somewhat acceptable level burnt me out so I'll take some time not playing aos and painting ghouls

  35. Oh.. yeah now I see it.. Also for those of you asking for pictures: I will post some pictures however I suck at it so it will take a while. FYI: I have painted a Nighhaunt army and I began when AOS2 was released. So 8-9 month untill now. Next up is 40 Chainrasps and assuming I didn’t drown myself in a bottle of Nighthaunt Gloom to escape the emptiness my prize for enduring the rasps is Lady Olyender. Then Kurdoss and a few heroes and finally a Covernthrone which is gonna need a little conversions to make it more ghosty.

  37. I would rather doubt the last part due to repacked Ogors and Cannon which ain´t even webstore only. But the idea of an "Knight"-Counterpart in form of Ogors/Gargants for AoS would be amazing, especially as AoS wouldn´t be messed up by such a faction like 40k is due to a different ruling (like: Anything can reliable wound anything )

  40. So the endless spells are completely finished! I also set the white balance a bit better. The previous pictures balanced it very much towards the red end of the spectrum. These pictures with slightly lower lighting is more like they appear irl rather than bright lightbox: Also, the Archregent's base (and minor blood effects) are also finished:

  41. in case of "X" - summon a shovel and get the treasure! Arrrrrrrrr
    2 points
  42. Welcome to the court! Let's start with summoning: For GKoZD varghulf is only real option, I can see how Infernal might help with MWs and shooting, but varghulf is a real boss GKoTG - horrors unless against stomcast or idoneth, or you can't possibly lend support of your abhorant to the new unit you might consider summoning flayers, also unit of 3 knights is not useless, they can deal good damage. GK on foot - it's okay not to summon with him at all if placing him away from the throne will benefit you more Regent - it depends, haven't got much experience with him yet In a list you mention you will lack 2 out of 3 important parts: battalion, courtiers, CPs (well, maybe you can go for ghast+chalice and cp's) also you will probably end up with Hollowmourne grand court (which worked well for me, surprisingly well actually) but without attendants at court or mounted GK you will happen to fight without rerolls far more often than you want , also missing out on mount trait and ZD can't heal without rider or battalion. I will share some experince playing Hollowmourne (and few army pics) later

  43. Probably a language difference thing but the line you quoted doesn't require you to be a top tier player - it just requires your advice be sound and something you've actually tested rather than pure 'theoryhammer' as it were. I have 2 distinct points I'm making - the first revolves around if AoS has tactics or not (it does). My comments regarding skill/experience are largely directed towards that point (i.e. we see people who are consistently successful at AoS demonstrating a grasp and application of higher level tactics than simple list building and synergy). The second point is that I think something like AoS tactics would be fantastic - assuming the information it conveyed was of quality. You don't have to be a tournament winner to write quality tactica at all - just someone who plays consistently and can convey the information in a clear and consistent way. I'll be the first to admit that I take issue with the 'AoS has little to no tactics' refrain - its oft repeated and wrong every time. I don't appreciate seeing a game that has some of the most depth of a game GW has produced (at least for a mainline game) reduced to 'it works like MtG'. And it simply isn't something I'm willing to leave alone because I passionately disagree with that thought process.

  45. Thanks, I had looked into some air stuff but with it being fairly steam punk already I was concerned that adding in anything flying might make it too close to the Overlords in terms of aesthetic themes. The Duardin are in my background for the faction too, currently modellingwise their model count is limited in what I can do in terms of conversion, stage two of the army involved a massive Duardin walker and adding 10 duardin to the Weld Phalanx (Irondrake legs, the upper body remains the same as the humans, duardin heads). My limit on duardin additions is currently capped by how heavily stylised their existing kits are. And here some nicer photos of the army!

  46. Loonboss Skragbad chuckled to himself as the orruk Brute strolled into the Dankwood as if he owned the place. He started to shout and order the resident grots and act as if he were the boss, just because he was bigger than everyone else. This was typical of an orruk as they always thought that being the biggest made you the natural boss. Skragbad knew better. The Knights of Skrag gathered at either end of the dirt track through the shanty town and slowly closed in on the massive shouty orruk. Skragbad stepped out if a side street a few yards away from the Brute and took up to most confident and arrogant pose he could manage. The orruk turned toward him and grinned a big toothy grin. He hefted his ragged-bladed axe and took a step toward the Loonboss. one of the Knights jumped forward and thrust his stabba into the back of the orruk's thigh. The orruk roared in indignation and swiped at the grot but he scampered out of reach. Skragbad nodded and two gitz with barbed nets pounced and threw their nets over the orruk! The other Knights swarmed round the tangled Brute and set out him with their spiked clubs. They aimed at his calves and the backs of his thighs and brought him down to his knees. the they aimed at his hands and face. The orruk bellowed in rage and pain as his broken fingers dropped his axe and tore ineffectually at the nets. More gitz came out of their hovels carrying sticks and clubs and joined in the vicious beating. Soon the orruk stopped moving and even more grots appeared to take part in the "fun". - 🍄 - This addition the little band of stabbas known as The Knights of Skrag feels a little gamey for my usual style (when combined with the Command Ability of the Loonboss) but it's also a nice call-back to the Warhammer 4th edition Night Goblin unit: "Netters and Clubbers", so I don't feel to bad about it. Snag Tangul Kacha The netters together: The Squig Hopper rider needed a little bit of greenstuff to make the netter hands fit into his robes-sleeves. The other two are normal Moonclan Grots, they needed their heads (carefully) sliced off (and saved for another project!), and the helmeted Boingrot heads needed a trim to fit flush, but obviously their hands fitted with no work.

  47. Hehe, strange to see my own list being quoted when I peruse this site for ideas on what to try! Well I’m sad to say the triple MK looked great, nice and simple to play but unfortunately outclassed by everything I faced. To be fair, being my first ever tourney and a ‘crazy’ list I agreed to be expendable within the team, This meant I got matched against some nasty lists and very experienced players while our stronger players took on opponents they had a good chance of beating. I lost all five games over the weekend by the end of turn three you could hypothosise that I would have been tabled by turn 5. Everyone I faced was anxious at first but soon relaxed when they realised how killable the maw krushas are (and that I was happy to lose gracefully :)). Great on the charge with destructive bulk but once stuck in combat they are soon chewed up and their successful wound output is little better than a squad of Brutes. The main way my forces were evaporated was through mortal wounds, all my opponents were chucking out mortal wounds all over the place through abilities and spells. No defence whatsoever and a relatively low wound strength total in my list. Even so I had a fantastic time and learned loads about the current ‘strong’ metas (night haunt, daughters, Nagash, deepkin, shaven). I’d highly recommend Bloodtithe! Great atmosphere, super sporting opponents from all over the world. Many commented that fundamentally the jaws are in desperate need of a new Battletome to bring them up to match the current meta. There’s a reason there were no other jawz lists at the tournament Tournament rumour has it it this will happen sooner than later so I will continue to paint my remaining jaws and live in hope of serious some mortal wound output or defence!

  48. Also remind folks that before the new book we had mostly the same army without the new buffs and were totally irrelevant competitively (besides some great results from one the best players in the world Bill S, who I am pretty sure could win a GT with random models blindly drawn out of a paper bag).
    2 points
  49. @rattila that's exactly what GW wants from Killteam. It's a product designed to present Warhammer as CHEAPER to get into. By slashing the cost to get involved it increase the chance of people getting a box of troops - a leader - a box of neat elites - oh guess you've nearly got 500 points to try 40K now - oh wait you've now got 1K points hey now you've got an army without realising it. It's a fantastic idea and is popular iwth established gamers too because it lets them have a quicker game with fewer models - perhaps fitting in around a more busy life that doesn't allow a whole 5 hours of the evening for a single 40K match
