  1. Moonclan.............that is all ?

  2. Thought I would post some pics of my current project - a Stormcast Eternals army in the Hallowed Knights colours with a vanguard hunter theme. I loved the look of the Hunters and it's nice that they've become a bit more reasonably costed in the new addition, but really this choice was all about the look and the concept. I've kept conversions on the subtle side, with the main one's being use of the old Knights of the White Wolf empire knightly orders sprue for head swaps and more fur cloaks. The main colours are - airbrushed Vallejo Metal Color steel + duraluminium for the armor - Metal Color gold with Game color sepia ink for the gold trim - stegadon scale green + sotek green for the "blue" details - game color Scarlet Red as the main pop color Since buying the Vanguard Brotherhood box set at the start of the year, I've chugged my way though: - Lord Relictor - 3 Vanguard Palladors - 2 x 5 Vanguard Hunters - 10 Liberators - 3 Raptors with Longstrike - 3 gryph hounds - 3 aetherwings On the painting table I still have a Lord Aquilor, Neave Blacktalon, 5 Retributors and 3 Prosecutors primed and waiting to go. Future additions may or may not include awesome warrior mages riding battle cats!

  3. You have LLV saying Moonclan. What more do you need? He has so far been one of the most reliable and prolific AoS rumour-mongers. Anyway. @LLV is there something else you could tell us about the Moonclan release without getting you into trouble?

  4. No better place on the forum to put him as he's a pretty Free City-ish model, here's the Realm Walker for Warhammer Achievements that I spent a couple of hours cobbling together out of spare stuff this afternoon: Realm Walkers are a custom warscroll broadly described in the event pack as Azyrian explorer/cartographer types armed with magic staffs. I think this guy meets the requirements and largely matches the theme of my army (he'll likely end up as a Cogsmith or Runelord after the event). Missing are the Celestant-Prime's Cometstrike Sceptre as the top of his staff (if anyone's got one spare, PM me ) and a greenstuffed Chaos Warrior-Style furry mound topping his cloak.

  6. I don't remember the exact numbers, but I have an approximate memory of what I calculated. Against a 4+ save unit you will deal roughly 7,5 wound damage on average on the top of my head for a unit of 3 palladors, this is both shooting and getting a charge of, about 2 W of that 7.5 Is shooting. So a good 4 wounds per 100 points spent *if you get all in combat*. This is where their strength lies. They have great mobility and decent damage output. Great for getting a turn 1 charge off or sneaking behind enemy lines with an aquilor. As for raptors. Long strike does about 2 damage unbuffed per 100p spent. Hurricane about 2.4 I believe with the +3 att after deep strike, making them slightly more powerful than empowered castigators and even ballistas which at 18 inch range do about 2,22 damage. Hurricane cannot move after that though, which limits them, but Aquilor can fix that. In my opinions hurricane raptors are great to deepstrike and shoot for that matter, but kind of a 1 trick pony. Realistically speaking though, a unit of sequitors gives you about 5 damage per 100 points spent per combat and enhanced weapons and evokers about 6 wound per 100 points spent. With the celestial realm being great for close deployment, you could do similar stuff with those units now, but only have a ~29ish% chance to get a charge of... And they cannot be empowered by evokes until the next turn either. in short: vanguard stuff is great to get a fast turn 1 semi consistent damage output. Newer stuff has to wait a turn before getting useful (barring the ballista and castigators). Unmoved hurricane deal more damage on average it seems, but castigators can have 2 rend, which is useful. The issue with castigated she remains being unable to empower them the turn they come down from the celestial realm and the command ability of the arcanum isn't enough. I forgot to add.... soulstrike brotherhood (is that the name?) if you aren't running aquilor, gives about 2 to 2,2 damage per 100 points spent adding everything up, but gives an extra artifact and command point. Not the greatest either since you need to deploy 1 of your hunter units which nerfs that 2 damage further.

  7. I finally have a moment and wanted to respond to these point by point. I want to be clear that my post was specifically geared toward thinking about Prince Vhordrai and what place he might have in a Legions list, not geared towards discussing any possible permutation of Legions stuff and certainly not Nagash himself as I think we already agree that putting V and Nagash in the same list is a mistake. 1. A totally fair point. I finally got my copy of the new GHB and I see what you mean about the specific battleplans. 2+3. It's not a question of which army is more defensive. It's a question of whether you can dislodge a defensive army that can get to the objectives before you do. It's possible that these armies won't show up in the meta at all, but one has to at least consider the possibility of things like: One drop Sylvaneth army that can basically guarantee the first turn (we will never be one drop) and drop their entire army on top of the objectives on turn 1. Clearly this doesn't apply to every battleplan, but there are plenty of battleplans where this approach will be very effective. Such an army can be built with an absolute buttload of dryads that are -1 to hit (-2 if their treelord stomps go off) with a 4+ (3+ in cover) save rerolling 1's, supported by behemoth wizards with crazy healing capabilities, and the ability to summon more dryads. Nagash is a real help here in that he can just eat those behemoths with Hand of Dust, but again I'm not really talking about Nagash lists. A tunnel-based vulkite spam Fyreslayers list. I'm somewhat more dubious about this kind of list, but chugging through 90+ vulkites is not an easy task. The idea here being that having an offensive powerhouse unit that can concentrate damage in a small space and pick of key support heroes regardless of lens (like V can) could be very useful in these situations. Maybe I'm underestimating how much work skeletons and grimghasts can do. 4. Yeah, I run skellies and grims plus VHD in every list too, Nagash or no XD won't get any argument from me there.... 5. I think maybe you are missing what I'm trying to articulate. It's not that an army fits into one of those niches itself, its that a particular dynamic is created by the relative composition of your list and your opponent's list. To use an analogy from Magic, one of the key skills in that game is to be able to recognize what your role is in a given matchup. If you are playing a midrange deck and your opponent is playing control, then you are in the aggro "role" for that game. Your opponent is highly favored in the long game, so you have to try to make sure that the game doesn't go long. Meanwhile, that same deck against a suicide aggro deck takes on the control role. They are going to be attacking you, and you have the stronger lategame so you are trying to make sure the game goes long. A more interesting example is in semi-mirror match between a creature based aggro deck and a burn based aggro deck. In such a matchup the burn deck will often end up taking on the control role, although it's possible that in certain combinations of opening hand either deck might end up in the control role vs the aggro role. Knowing what role you are in is absolutely critical in that if you judge incorrectly, you are likely to make play decisions that will drastically reduce your chance of winning even if they seem better at the time. If you are in a control role, trading resources for damage is a terrible idea, but trading resources for time is great. In the aggro role, the values are exactly the opposite. While I don't think things are quite this clear-cut in Warhammer, relative army composition in the context of a specific battleplan will still create role-based dynamics where either your role is to weather your opponent's attack long enough to win or your role is to push your opponent off the objectives. Other things like offensive vs. defensive efficiency and ranged firepower affect these dynamics as well, of course. Just to give some simple examples: You are playing against a Seraphon player with a very heavy investment in summoning, but your army is faster and you can reliably get an advantage in objectives on turn 1. Your opponent will likely put an extra 1000 points of models on the board in the next two turns. Consider two possibilities: your army is fast and deals a lot of damage, but is defensively inefficient OR your army is very defensively efficient and even 3000 points of Seraphon would likely take at least two turns to dislodge you. These two scenarios create vastly different role dynamics. In the first situation, you are highly incentivized to push forward and try to destroy or at least heavily limit the opponent's summoning as soon as possible. If you sit back and score while your opponent builds up, they will be able to overwhelm you quickly. In the other scenario, the onus is on your opponent to attack you as early as possible because if they wait until they have that extra advantage from the summoning, they will no longer have enough time left to realistically take back the advantage in VP. Your opponent is playing a low-drops pure alpha strike list. No matter what you are playing (unless you have fewer drops and are also an alpha strike list), the game dynamic is going to put you on the defensive and you will likely win if you can weather your opponent's initial onslaught. A smaller scale example: you currently hold an advantage in terms of objectives. You are given the choice to attack in such a way that you sacrifice some models at the cost of causing damage to your opponent. Even if the attack is relatively efficient, it may be a mistake to do so simply because the onus is on your opponent to destroy you to get you off the objectives. Simply trading models with the opponent at this point is not good for you. I hope that makes sense.

  9. There is more to it than that. The most obvious hint is the cave shaman. The first two heralds both got armies based off them. The guy who painted said he was asked to redefine the look for the range. Why do that if they are not going to make more minis? We have several rumour engines including the spores and the sword. Finally we have @LLV, the most reliable source of rumors around these days. Of course there are no guarantees and even if they do come, we might not see them till next year.

  13. Its kinda ironic. The faction with the most units and variety is essentially pigeon holed into only a few builds due to the massive gutting of battalions. SCE have more battalions then most factions combined yet all but 3ish are useless. The Gavriel clone list problem is the same problem that almost all of the smaller factions have. Look at Fyreslayers, Tzeentch, Ironjawz to name a few. All required to take clone lists due to no other options. Nighthaunt though...those spooky bois are going strong with multiple competitive build ideas

  20. Has there actually been anything from GW about moonclan, even the smallest hint? Because so far all I've seen is people saying they want moonclan/grots to be next, then people repeating it as a rumour. Also people putting up fake Grot battletomes and getting people excited over nothing. The closest thing to a hint I've seen from GW is one of the rumour engine pictures, and even then people are only guessing that is was grot related. (I personally didn't see the resemblance)

  21. My experience being hes actually not that bad to put together for a resin model. Pieces fit pretty well, no need for greenstuff. Hardest part was getting the lord to sit on the jugger at the right angle. Dont think the model photos particularly well, there is maybe one good angle. not fond of the way the resin models have their fur or skulls done. its subtle but different. Like the idea of converting one. You might be able to pick up a single skull crusher sprue from ebay. Might cost you a tenner with postage though, where as you could possible get 3 for £15-18 Skull crushers come with the riders lower torso attached. Bloodcrushers dont. But Bloodcrushers sell marginally cheaper on ebay, so keep in mind youd need to source some legs for him if you find one for a bargain price. Also skull crusher kit comes with the knight crest thing. Would probably use a spare wrathmonger/skullreaper torso then you have a bit of choice on weapon and arm poses. there is one in particular with the right arm tight around the front of the that could hold a shield. Wrathmonger/bloodwarrior champion/skull crusher heads all have the bunny ears helmet if youre looking to match the style of the original model. Sure there is a spare left hand + axe in your bits box somewhere. Skullreaper parts probably the first port of call for this too.

  28. griping start // Every time i look at grimghasts, I get bitter at how good grave guard aren't. I simply do not have the funds for another us$150 unit, and even if I did, I really don't think grimghasts look good in such huge units. And yet every time I look at their rules, 30 grimghasts jusy look more and more like the best unit available to the army by a country mile. Not just grave guard, but morghasts (even in LoN!), vargheists, knights of all varieties... nothing apart from maybe skittles seem to come close, and even then only because of battleline requirements. Are grimghasts way too good, or are the bulk of our units just terrible? Are we doomed to an entire year of wraiths dominating every legion list, only to watch GH2019 nerf them into oblivion with a 60 point price hike per batch just as I finally break down and buy them? Bah. I'm probably just grumpy that I don't have the funds for them right now. At least, not all in one go. That, and i just really want my wights to be good, and, whether in the compendium or the grand alliance or the legions book, whether it's 2016, 2017, or 2018 points values, they just keep falling short. But to have to stand them next to 'the same unit, but better in basically every way, oh and they're more than a full command point cheaper to boot' is just... disheartening. // griping over

  30. Had great success playing against DoK in a 1k battle (with proxies) with this list: - Guardian of Souls (general). +1 to casting rolls artefact. - Lady Olynder - Spirit Torment - 1x 3 Spirit Hosts - 1x 10 Grimghast Reapers - 1x 10 Bladedude Revenants - Geminids of Uhl-Gysh We played the scenario where an objective appears on the center line on turn 2 and an additional objective appears in each player’s zone on turn 3, and the objectives are worth more points the later in the game you are. I basically deployed my three heroes and my Bladedudes as a Death Star, and kept them hidden / uncommitted to avoid spell sniping by my opppnent. Got the Geminids down which did crazy damage (hit four units with the two balls, so 8D3 MW). I let my opponent commit and capture all three objectives, then immediately grabbed the two side objectives from him (deep striking my Grimghasts, chomping through units with my buffed Bladedudes, and holding up mobile units with my Hosts). I then converged to his center with everything. My opponent quit before getting tabled. I only lost one hero (Spirit Torment). The spells I used were the two healing ones (the one that heals D3 and the one that siphons D3). My GoS had the trait where you bring back D3 models. One of our biggest strengths is mobility, and it’s not an intuitive advantage — but our combination of reliable deep striking, flying, moving 6 and 8, and teleporting (through our Command ability) makes us crazy mobile and flexible. I was able to keep my units away from his hard hitters, was able to debuff and focus on specific units... it was a joy to play.

  33. Thank you for your comments! I feel so sorry I couldn't answer before. @excalibur the whole idea of this army comes from the original zombie pirates of the Vampire Coast army on the WD during Lustria's campaign. I was really amazed with the theme and the awesome conversions, and when in AoS I saw the rules for the Wraith Fleet i fell in love again. With the release of the idoneth shipwreck I knew that the moment has come ?? @Izotzuhure I'd love to see your pirate army when it's finished!!! @Kisufisu I had the same idea too! I had in mind a Blight Cyst of the Drowned Men, armed with pistols instead of death heads! The algae/seaweed/thingie is indead colored caribou moss. I bought mine through greenstuffworld. @Thundercake sadly I can't recall the model. It's a cheap toy ship from a dollar store. If you're planning to do something similar you should check the Revell's pirate ghost ship (code 05433) and the Penn Plax action-air shirpwreck ornament. I'm afraid to inform you people that the Fleet of Bones has shipwrecked. I'm in the UK right now and all my models are at home in Spain. But I'm willing to continue with this project, as I still need to summon lots of zombie and skeletons pirates, and found a way to fit some units with the theme (I have some ideas for the vargheists, but it's still in the air...) Keep sailing and see you soon!

  35. I was trying to figure out some new strategies last night, and came across an idea that might be absolutely brutal. Warpfire Throwers are deadly, but it's hard to get them safely in range against good opponents. What if you could add 2D6" to their range? Cue the Great Bray Shaman... whose spell "Devolve" moves an enemy unit 2D6" towards your nearest unit. Say you have 2 units of Warpfire Throwers safely far away, like 20" . If you hit that unit with Devolve, now your unit of Warpfire Throwers will be usually able to hit that unit that turn. Hey Nagash hiding behind their backlines, how does a faceful of 2D6 mortal wounds sound? I run a mostly Skyre army under Chaos Allegiance, and I think twl Great Bray Shamans will become a mandatory addition to my list from now on.

  36. @Kramer, AoE stands for area of effect. The idea behind the Butchers in this build is to sit them mid table projecting their possible 14" Cauldron buffs with just enough overlap to heal each other. I honestly think with so many small units on the table, rolling the 2 for the heals could be just as good as getting +1 to hit. I honestly don't know in the hyper competitive meta if we will even be able to get casts off or defend against them. I have had my share of games where I couldn't roll a 7 for the Maw. Now trying to get an endless spell off turn 1 could prove extremely difficult. Really appreciate the feedback. Will be trying the list on Monday against Maggotkin again so we will see how it fairs. His list has a ton of casting.

  38. Played my first game in a siege against my very own free people's army... Was close but I got smashed by the OP griffons and handgunners. My poor stormvermin, a unit of 20, were out of the crown of command range, lost 10 rats in one turn of combat against the griffon, then finally we're completely wiped off the table when the BS test took place. Both teams are doing pretty well this edition from my experience though (have just played my free people's, mostly). I just wish it we're easier to get CP. 20180718_221918.mp4

I played another game against Tzeentch on the wknd and am about to put together another battle report however didn't use Knights this time.

  41. @SolarBur Pretty sure the sheer number of the rats to build is what keeps the horde approach minimal. You also have to get good at moving all the models across the board in a timely manner. If you can get past that you're in for a treat because pestilens is now, in context of the new edition, definitely a hidden gem who can take on and best forces they never could before. Good use of Inspiring presence will be the number one thing that determines a good pestilens army from a bad one

Some things which struck me Focus on the scenario . Obvious to many here buts it's tempting to get distracted by a valuable model and give up an objective Gorepilgrims is amazing - not news ? Priests were great - 4x flesh is really handy and blood boil really made my opponent consider where he placed valuable models. I need to use them more aggressively. Aspiring death bringer w command points is a steal at 80 points. Him and 3 blood warriors obliterated a horde of zombies and grave guard. Blood tithe was flowing after each combat phase, I always seemed to have 2 or 3 points after combat so I managed to summon a herald and 10 blood letters and unbind arkhan a few times. 30 inch unbind is awesome but a buffer up arkhan is a spell monster. Could only stop him w blood tithe. Ward save on shrine is pretty meh, while a fourth flesh is handy I think replacing it and the prince for a wok bt may be the way forward. Small units of reavers seems like the way forward - objective grabbers and tithe. Death summoning is mean All in all feeling happier about khorne in this edition.

  44. The icy touch of death is ever increasing in size! Now with more wars and more souls... Can't wait for that black coach to be released and the dreadblade harrows... I so love those new horses.

  45. You need to get bit lucky to win in the trade-off if you're using 240 points of troops for tying up enemies. That list also looks like it will have hard time keeping any objectives for longer than one turn. Which is the main problem for me when I play with Slaanesh. Many of the scenarios are such that you need to take the objectives early and keep them to be able to win. All of the games I had on Sunday ended up on turn three to a situation where the other player couldn't anymore win because of the early lead in victory points. I also don't think that getting to combat on turn one is not so useful as it sounds, as most often you're only able to charge some screening units and the chargers die on counter charge. You might get some depravity on the go, but the big guys are so important for the longer game, that you don't want to lose them on turn one. Getting most of your stuff on the objecties and using small seeker units to block the enemy movement, should be nice, and should be easy to achieve, as even without any bonuses they have 14+4d6" (+2 if within 12" of daemon hero) range for charging, and the new scenarios have shorter distance between the armies (some have even just 9" from the opponent). Thus I don't see the cogs have much of a use for Slaanesh. The movement is nice for the summoned units, but you start to see them around turn three and the ability to cast two spells is worthless for Slaanesh as we don't have any good spells to cast. Especially if you have to babysit the cogs somewhere in the corner to be out of the unbind range. The geminids look much nicer, but they are still pretty hard to cast on 7+ as you'll also be inside the unbind range for sure when doing that. If the opponent has any bonuses to unbind, it might be tricky to get them on the table at all. I would prefer to use those points on extra command points as the Slaanesh command abilities are so good. Also comparing 9" charge for summoned unit with +2" from cogs to re-roll from command point, there is only 10% difference in the probability. Both are close to 50/50. Of course with both it's even better.

  46. “A man can hold many names, and each will be a part of himself that he acts upon. What, then, of the names held by our gods? What weight and duty most those names bring? And how many names have been forgotten over the long Ages of the Realms? What of those duties and roles?” Follies; Everard Hemp of Hammerhal. ~ “Golden Antlered Harne, the hunt made flesh.” “Blessed Loclaranam, marked and noted child of Ghyran. 47. Thanks for the comments! I see that you guys liked the ghost sea horses a lot. At first I thought that the cheap plastic tails would look plainly weird and out of place, but once painted the minis they blended really nicely with the horses. Phew! @Black Waltz the banshee model is just one of the Coven Throne vampires with a daemonette head. Yes, the kit comes with three banshees, but I'm planning to add those to the bloodseeker palanquin and my future mortis engine. Talking about the palanquin, it's finished! I still had no background for the vampire lady, but I can tell you that she logs where the best blood samples are in a vast map that's always with her. (As I lack of such painting skill, the map as painted by lanadanollora in instagram, maybe you've seen his nurgle circus army in warhammer community)

  49. I finished the painting on the dark oath war queen. I kept the pallet very limited and mixed some greens into every colour (except the purple) to see how this would turn out. I'm pleased with the finished piece although the undercoat was little rough, and this shows up in some of the close up shots. For some areas (the shield, helmet and armour) this actually works well, but the cloak could definitely be better if it had a smoother base. The freehand was interesting. I was curious to see how it could look. If I do it again I will plan the pattern out first, but I think the way I did it - white over the green, followed by lots of washes, is the way to go with this kind of muted pattern. I'm going to experiment with it again I think. I'm also going to use the white undercoat again and see what sort of finish I get on a test model. If it is still rough I will stick to using brown or grey undercoats.
