  1. I don't like to sound negative and I know this is the rumour page but allot of these ideas make it sound like you want AOS to be 40k with a different aesthetic. i get that AOS should be different to WHF and a chance to go nuts with design elements but can't we have SOME fantasy elements retained in the new design aesthetics. Each to their own but this is just my preference.

  4. If they ever get around to Deadwalkers, Zombie driven Vehicles are a must, imo. Huge ramshackle constructions, filled to the brimm with Chained up Zombies doing a single monotonous task in eternity (esentially, they are binary switches, since you can turn them on or off, but they can't undertake more complex tasks). Bonus points if they are clearly just some ordinary structure uprooted and modified, like a crawling siege tower that was clearly a Windmill. GW needs to give them something with a unrotten brain for leadership for that, but they propably already need to, somebody must have build those Fleshcarts. Really, I think they should have kept Deathmages and Deathwalkers as one faction, the fleshcart is already a blend from both and I think World-that-was style petty Necromancers belong with the Zombies. This would have also forced the Mortis Engine into Nighthaunt along with a slight Lore rewrite, keeping another host of issues at bay. But then again, it is always easy to have a better idea as an outsider reviewing a decission long after the fact. But yeah, AoS is really closer to a mass compatible variant of psychedelic gonzo fantasy than classic high or epic fantasy and that opens up a whole new world of potential war engines, with the surface barely scratched with the likes of the Kharadon Ironclad.

  6. Hi all. When the GHB2016 dropped, AoS took finally off in my gaming group. But I got sick of flipping through my books the entire time very fast. From the battleplan currently played to the allegiance abilities and forward to the additional rules for Matched Play. And, oh yeah, what was the wording on the Battlebrew again? If you play or know X-Wing, you're probably familiar with cards for, well, everything. I like this approach a lot. But GW failed to provide something similiar. They hadn't even put out warscroll cards yet. I knew I needed a solution, because I was forgetting about a lot of abilities. Doing basically nothing but print design work in InDesign the whole day anyway, I decided I can whip these out myself. So I did. I worked through the GHB2016 and every battletome and re-worked all of them following GHB2017. I posted them in my gaming group forum and on Dakkdakka. As of right now, there are allegiance cards for all allegiances, including a handy card box where you can store your cards. No glue needed. There is also a set for different GHB2017 section that I felt could profit from some cards. When AoS was released, I made markers for buffs/debuffs and the terrain effects. I plan on reworking these soon. I will upload them one after another in the Download section, so head over there. each set contains: cover / card backside, Battle Trait(s), Command Traits, Artefacts, the two core spells (Arcane Bolt, Mystic Shield) on a single card, sub-faction specific spells card size is 41x63mm (same as X-Wing upgrade cards) language: English I tried to keep the original wording, but sometimes I had to abbreviate it to fit on the card without scaling down the font size. The rule intentions should still be clear. 'Dice' was continuously replaced with D3 or D6, 'wound roll' with 'To-Wound roll' (same for hit), 'Mortal Wounds' sometimes with 'MW' each set can be stored in a faction specific card box, with contents listed on the back (instructions) If you find any errors or have suggestions, please let me know. I had fun creating these cards and hope people will find them useful and have fun using them in their games. All rules, artwork and the Age of Sigmar logo © Games Workshop PLC These cards are for personal use only and you should always keep your General's Handbook and/or Battletome nearby to solve any conflicts from bad wording on the cards. These cards are only a playing aid and never could nor should replace an official publication. Please let me know if I have used anything you would like to be removed. 7. I think your massively missing the point of epic fantasy if you think it's rediculours to fly from A to B while accepting a magical door can do that. As mentioned twice now, several gates are closed or in the hands of either Chaos or Destruction. Not only would any force willing to reclaim it bottleneck itself into infinity it's bound to be a bad plan if your opponent exactly knows where your going to show up. Which in your example always would be that gate. If you think it's impossible to create ships that cannot go from A to C eventually your missing the point in all cases with several races not being hindered by time such a journey is far from impossible and in fact a great plan if you intend to create a suprise attack. Busting through someone's front door is always possible and always very predictable. This is why we usually have locks on doors and requires you to consider another less obvious route. In addition to all of that we allready have some ships in the system too.

Age of Sigmar started out simple enough. But the first General's Handbook changed a lot of things. Suddenly you could personalise a few things for your army with command traits for your general and artefacts for your heroes. Then dropped the first battletomes which included allegiance abilities. And the amount grew rapidly. Because I don't like flipping back and forth in my books for every other ability, I created some cards to help keep the important rules right at the table, beside your models. All cards are available as print files with 3mm bleed and cutting marks, as a 'web' version (for viewing on smartphones/tablets), US letter and DIN A4 printing sheet. each set contains: cover / card backside, Battle Traits, Command Traits, Artefacts, cards for spell lores and faction specific skills card size is 63 x 88 mm (same as Pokemon, Magic, 40k Datacards, etc.) language: English I tried to keep the original wording, but sometimes I had to abbreviate it to fit on the card without scaling down the font size. The rule intentions should still be clear. 10. "The proud flag ship "karaz dahendra" of Elgi-bar's skyfleet takes to the skies! Crewed by the different uniformed arkanauts of the Rereksfjiord company, it is currently under the daredevil captain Agrün Svinvirrsson whom is eager to prove himself as the most cunning sky vessel operator. This ambition comes from his first muster press, where rival arkanauts from barak-zilfin boasted that no other sky port could never produce a captain better than thiers." This is the biggest model I've ever assembled and painted. It has been both a frustrating and rewarding experience, which only spurs me onward to expand my sky fleet.

  12. Actually, chances are he isn't going to be a named character. We will see, but both the primaris liutenants this month were introduced with names but turned out to be generics with no names aside from the branding (not ruling and explanation), same with Nauseous Rotbone for the deathguard, he's just a generic character published with a unique name.

  13. No need to derail again If some think epic fantasy is full of ridiculous or fantastical design they are right, and that's the whole point. If we didn't have some artists make up a horse with wings hundreds of years ago we wouldn't know what a Pegasus is.

  14. All of the gors, bestigors and ungor raiders as well as the two shamans have now been based. I also assembled and based the AoW beastlord, who looks suitably imposing next to his lesser kin: The cork is just for elevation and will be covered with Stirland Mud, while the bark will be kept bare and painted grey. Kind of regret gluing the ungor shaman directly to his base rather than adding some more elevation under him, I think it would look better. Should I try to cut him loose and do that? I salvaged some mushrooms (visible on one bestigor's and the ungor shaman's bases) and arrows (top left ungor on the second picture) from the old night goblin kit to spice up the bases even further. I don't have many of either though - the arrows should be enough for a large unit of ungor raiders, but I've already started making some mushrooms out of green stuff to be able to have enough to scatter throughout a whole army. I'm planning to add a few handmade mushrooms to these units while I assemble the last 10 gors, and then priming them all.

  16. So many fleets! Even Wulfrik's whole ability to show up anywhere is narratively speaking about his ship being able to do as such. As before WFB was really full of vessels but because there where some ties to historical fantasy designs within it they never really fleshed it out within WFB. Instead we had Dreadfleet but the cool thing about that is that it exactly gives the design (epic too) that I'd love to see fleshed out again on AoS scale. In reality though there is absolutely nothing that has recently been spoiled which would point towards ships. There is the MP video but as mentioned on FB I don't think they intended to show that ship as a design for future releases. I sure hope it will be. Again not to make it all 40K-ish but the idea of Free Guild being akin to Astra Militarum would certainly be interesting. Better put the Stormcast can't be everywhere every time. Logic, even within an epic fantasy saga, would dictate that surviving humans would indeed have the tools to muster a propper defence and based on former design the Steam Tank is probably one of the best examples of how more historical inspired humans would do it. As a sidenote I also love the wagons they have for their Sigmar devoted, so a 'tanky' army including Free Guild is allready possible just not fleshed out the way I think makes the point come across as clear as Id like it to be. Yeah the gates are currently only in use by Stormcast and Seraphon. This is neat but leaves the others a bit in the vague area of how they actually get from A to C. For Elven we also allready see some flying vehicles too, some WFB fans hated it but I think it's a concept that would fit AoS really well. It fits it so well even that I dare say one of the reasons as to why epic fantasy can be awesome is because everything that can fly doesn't have to be a creature ******. The eagle chariot, displayed below is actually something I think scales up extremely well too. Yet it was viewed as an oddity within WFB. By large again because it had some clear aspects of historical fantasy design and thus preferred some additional logic (though often not succeeding that well in the process, e.g. why Empire only build 9 Steam tanks is very unclear, money cannot be an issue if your world is war driven and full of constant dangers). More eagles should in epic fantasy theory be capable to draw larger vessels. Eagles can be gargoyles (Dark Elves), daemons (Chaos), machines and for Orruks in particular I could even see them filling giant Squighs (dead or alive) with gasses lighter as air to become airborne. But I'm derailing the topic at hand, sorry for that! I think if anyone wants to talk vessels we should create a new topic for it.

  18. Hey Everyone! Today I will be continuing my series on "Life Lessons and Wargaming". The point of this article series is to look at the little lessons we learn throughout life and how we can apply these to our Wargaming hobby. In today's article, I plan to talk about continuous improvement and wrap up my thoughts and hopefully persuade you to go after your goals and use all those lessons you have learned throughout life to help you become better hobbyist and gamer. I might return to this series in the future, but today I will place a bookmark on it here. It doesn't matter where you might be at in life or with your Hobby as long as you are walking the road toward improvement. It is when you are sitting on the side of the road refusing to go anywhere that you truly fail. Getting started is the key, but continuing to improve is how you open the door to your success. Sometimes you find yourself stopping even if you don't realize it at first and you need to persevere to keep working toward your goals. If you are the type of person who heads to the gym happily to lift iron and push your body to its limits then you might already see the correlations between this article series and the mentality prevalent within that type of atmosphere. I wasn't one of those people, but I am now as I daily head to the gym for an hour or more. The basic ideas learned in this atmosphere translates into other aspects of your life including your Hobby. A little over a year and a half ago I was the perfect example of someone not working toward their goals simply sitting on the side of the road to success. Sometimes I would have the motivation and move a bit down the road, but more often than not I was stagnant. Even when I was moving toward my goals I always felt like more like a passenger than the driver. While I won't go into the details just know that at some point I realized all of this and decided it was time to change and take the lead. I don't want to come across that I was unhappy as it was the exact opposite. I have a beautiful wife, lovely home, the greatest friends I could hope to have, but I wanted so much more. A switch was beginning to turn on even though I didn't realize it at the time. I say beginning to turn on because it wasn't some overnight change I experienced, but realization over a few months that while I was happy I wasn't satisfied. I wanted so much more from myself out of this life then what I was currently getting. I decided it was time to drive and stay ahead of the direction of my life in multiple ways, most of which I will leave out of this article, but a few of which were my Health and my Hobby. I began to sort out that I was living in my comfort zone but going nowhere. So as I headed to the gym and fell in love with placing myself outside my comfort zone to improve my body I also began to live outside my Hobby comfort zone. I decided to paint an army with white as the primary color because white is a challenging color for me. Instead of waiting for someone else to take the lead in some group projects I grabbed the rein myself. It was hard and failure is very real, but it is worth it. Now I feel confident painting with white as well as handling small and large projects, even multiple at a time. I cannot say I am the best at either and the truth is that I am probably not, but I am better than I was and I want to be better than I am. I have found happiness and motivation beyond where I was by reaching beyond myself and trying things that, perhaps, no one else has attempted before and even if I fail I know I tried and gave it everything I got. I set goals regularly and put in my all to accomplish them because I have fallen in love with the process of doing the work and letting the results come. I now live my life always happy, but never satisfied. A year ago this way of living would be very alien as being happy should be the goal in and of itself, but while I felt happy where I was in the past it was only because I didn't come to learn what really makes me happy. I am happiest when I am working to improve. It has almost become an addiction as I eagerly look forward to my Hobby Fix, going to the gym, or working to improve me and my wife's life. Being obsessed isn't a bad thing, but essential to keep yourself motivated to improving day after day in the way you wish to improve. I wish I could say this was a road walked alone, but it very much isn't the case. I haven't covered this much in this article series, but having a support group, tribe, club, family, or whatever you wish to call it is needed to stay fueled and motivated when you being to sputter. At the gym, my friends are there to spot me and allow me to push more and more while encouraging me. Likewise my wife, friends, and Family encourage my Hobby from my painting to my games, to my community projects, to this very blog you read. They don't all necessarily know what it is all about, but they see my passion and obsession and know the joy it is bringing me. My wife asks me how my games were after an event and will listen to the details of my battles earnestly. My Mother will like every post from my Blogs Facebook page despite not knowing what I am saying most of the time. My friends, both online and nearby, buy me paints and models while always being eager to take a look at their latest models I have painted and ask how my Hobby is going sincerely. Without these support structures, there are times I might have quit. Without them all, I couldn't become the best version of myself be it with my Health or my Hobby. I have never been more fulfilled in my life as a whole, Health, Hobby, Family, and Friends as I am right now. I credit this to my new found love of the process of hard work, goals, and continuous improvement. I encourage everyone to take those hard steps down the road to improvement in their Hobby or any aspect of life. It doesn't matter how fast or slow you go down that road, only that you keep moving and keep improving. I believe anyone can do this and if you are working toward improvement share your journey with us and help motivate us on our journeys. Our Community is in this together and by supporting each other our journeys we will improve the larger journey of our Hobby as a whole. Don't ever give up. Accomplish your goals. Until next week, Happy Hobby. 19. Meaning by "fantasy" the classic medieval themes? I do not think one needs to fear that going away. All the big crazy needs something to contrast with to make an impact. I do not think anyone here is eager to see classic knight, free people facing all those terrors with nothing but guts and a blade or the simple grot with a pointy stick dissapearing into obscurity.

  21. Nice read! And I agree, I think in life we all have to come to the conclusion sooner or later that there will ALWAYS be somebody better than you out there, even if we do become the best painter, there will be other aspects other people will be better at, like swimming, writing, cooking. So to enjoy the process and enjoy self-improvement rather than being "better" than others is the best thing to do. I personally try to enrich my life in anything I do and try to be as fully present as I can. If your goal is to better yourself rather than being better than others, you'll never run out of things to improve^^. In life, love. passion and most importantly, compassion, growth is the key to a brighter future for yourself and others.

  24. I really think all kinds of engines and ships could work for practically every army. It was even true for WFB, the downside of WFB was that it did require some aquatic areas to be believable but for Age of Sigmar something like that doesn't really matter. Better put a flying chariot for Stormcast, a flying Warship for Vulkites and Bloodbound and Zeppelin for Orruks would work amazingly well in my mind. For Death obviously such design is even easier justified by a dozen orso banshee's carrying it like they do with the Necromancer engine. One of the reasons as to why I believe 40K is also so massively popular is because of vehicles of all kinds. In this epic Age of Sigmar I think it would be very great to not only consider something similar but even improve onto it. Examples of epic fantasy vehicles: So yeah, I just hope GW continues to turn up AoS to 11.

  27. While I I enjoy build up to things, the fact is that the reveals, are not revealing much Maybe the Heralds, like the Chaos Queen and the Ghost thing can be the new direction that slaves to darkness and Death are taking. But a Death army needs skellies. Nagash himself is a big skellie. Fingers crossed for barbarian slaves to darkness. And for the love of Sigmar let the Order herald be something not stormcasty. Like a regular human, or aelf.

  28. Absolutely. Also decided to look into the backend of the website of Malign Portents to see if we can see some news or differences between what we see elsewhere. First thing is that The Ship video is actually called The Harbour video; https://malignportents.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/9/2017/12/2.-Malign-Portents-The-harbour.mp4 which to me indicates that indeed a Undead ship might not have been the plan for this. Indeed the focus is on the dock and the ship but if FB indeed said that we shouldn't look too much into it to me it just indeed is adding an impression and is less of a model sketch preview. Other than that we see the symbol for the Magic Lore of Death too: The V-like shape in the background is linked to the Lore of Death, Shyish and all that comes with that domain. Provided the logo isn't just randomly chosen that is Lastly, and it's not much, the bar is a skull bar and not a daemonic bar so to me it does lead to the idea of it all being very Death focused for certain. My guess is that indeed Nagash has come to claim more as just the Death he was working with. Seeking revenge on both Archaon and Sigmar. Cheers,

  30. So, just a little thing about those teaser vids I've noticed: When the "The Field" video ends and the "Malign Portents" logo shows you can see a single skeleton in the lower right corner. At the end of "the ship" you can see more of the picture, including a second skeleton and I also think its a bit clearer. The Original Malign Portents teaser showed none of this artwork. So I guess they'll reveal more and more of the artwork with each "Omen" teaser and I think the actual hint of what is to come may actually be in the artwork and the "Omen" bits before are actually more atmosphere and distraction from the actual reveal playing right under our nose. I think the redisigned Age of Sigmar logo is similar, it is slightly more zoomed out in "The Ship" than it is in "The Field", though there are no discernible shapes in the sorrounding artwork so far. I've only just noticed now, since I sort of zoned out when logo played, taking for granted that it is all the same everytime anyway. So, anyway, if I am onto something here, they are actually showing is some sort of box or bookcover design bit by bit each time the Logos play, while we look at the animations shorts in between scrambling for clues. In which case, well played, social media team.

  35. Hi all. First time posting here, I usually post Inq28 stuff over on Ammobunker but have taken an interest in AoS28 as well, so thought I would post here too. This is a Leshy, a woodland guardian from Slavic mythology - of course there's some inspiration from Witcher 3 here, but I'm a fan of the original folklore and was determined to put my own stamp on it. You can read more of the background and see a lot more pictures on my blog here Apologies for the use of a 40k mini for scale, I did not have any finished fantasy human-sized models to hand. I also wrote a short story as some fluff:

  36. First time submission so please be gentle. I know AoS28 has a no Brettonians rule but I feel like my new hinterlands warband might just scrape the line into acceptable. The grail seekers They travel ever onward, a sorry party hauling a long deceased knight. Their leader, a woman dressed in cloth that may once have been fine but is now marred by road dirt and faded from wear, heads the sorry band. Behind her the pilgrims trudge, taking turns to carry the deceased knight. The feat takes three men at a time but they persevere, heaving the grim icon as though it were a sacred relic. Their clothes show even more wear and tear than their lady's and through the tattered robes their bodies are thin and aged. At every town they ask after only two things, “dost thou know the Lady”, “hast thou seen the Grail”. How long they have searched none can say but ever onward their search takes them, seeking a Lady and a Grail. The idea is basically that long ago a lone knight helped protect a small village from a terrible foe. He was victorious but mortally wounded. What little the villagers knew of the knight was that he sought to drink from a mystical grail owned by someone called The Lady. The villagers felt they owed the knight a great debt and so a number of them set out, carrying his body in search of this Lady and her mythical grail, hoping it could restore their protector to life or at least give his spirit peace. And now the important bit, pictures. The Bearers of Sir Gawain Not the best picture but unfortunately the others came out worse, these guys count as a grail relique. Avelyn the apprentice She's the apprentice of the village wise woman and the leader of the group. The Unspoken A mysterious warrior who never speaks, he joined the group just after they left the village and has protected them throughout their journey. That's all for now, going to build three battle pilgrims and then spoil it all with my terrible painting skills.

  43. Impressive works all around! Gavroche, your horse-skeleton-hounds look really fantastic and straight out of a John Blanche picture! Orfeoculzen.... WHAT IS THAT THING ON THE IMPALED HORSE???? Looks like a fetus and will most definitely give me nightmares tonight! Love your take on those disturbing scavengers. It's really great to see so much enthusiasm around this project! I also had a very productive sunday (well to my standards) meaning that I completed another one of the Luminarchate paladins and even had time to sketch a concept of the leader of the warband, the Luminark Malakia himself. As you can see I have decided to convert the shields of the paladins to represent the holy semblance of Alluminas (looking pretty pissed off), inspired by a piece of artwork from the brand new wh quest shadows over hammerhal (sorry, just found this terrible image). The Luminark is just a very early WIP but it gives a good hint of the direction I am going to take with him... Less warlike than the paladins but not totally wizard in terms of esthetic, something more akin to a fantasy cleric of Light. I also have an idea about his weapon/staff that I will expand in future updates. Hagen

My sculpting and painting skills are limited, and using green stuff to do anything other than plug a gap is a bit beyond me right now, so any suggestions for useful kits to raid would be super welcome. First up, a Spellweaver kitbash, mixing parts from the Wild Riders/Sister of the Thorn plus some parts from Glade Guard. This one was my first kitbash. I'd be tempted to run it as a kind of Necromancer for Order (Biomancer? Geomancer?), having summoned a bunch of shambling trees and wild beasts. The second is my WIP Ghoul King. The body of an Orruk Brute, leftovers from a Crypt Horror kit, plus a bit of tinfoil for a crown. There's a ragged little cape around the back too. I think there's loads of a scope for a twisted royal family, or questing party (maybe accompanied by ghouls with coconuts), but I reckon that's the kind of thing my meagre skills would hit a ceiling with pretty quickly. Any reckons?

  45. Decided against the shield for now but it can still be added in later. Deep in the forest, next to a stagnant pool in a rotten copse, dead flesh and wood cling to each other in perverse imitation of life. Some say that they dance according to the whim of whatever killed the trees and poisoned the water.

  46. Hi folks - really interested in this. Do my models/kit bash/conversions ideally have to be from GW AoS range or are other manufacturers encouraged? Malifaux/Reaper in particular have some excellent minis which would be perfect for AoS28. For example, my old Skaven BSB has been sitting on my shelf since 8th Ed. With the existing points and rules I haven't quite found a use for him in AoS yet. But in AoS28, the "Pied Piper of Nuln" could be perfect when coupled up with a few choice Skaven kit bashes. Appreciate your thoughts on this I've always been amazed that GW never produced a "Pied Piper" model. Seemed such an obvious fit to me with Skaven!

  47. Usually I don't post WIPs so early, but with all the excitement of this thread I just couldn't wait to get stuck in! As a disclaimer, and maybe as a bit of motivation for those already intimidated by the impressive modelling chops on display in this thread, I will say now, I am terrible at converting! I have no greenstuff sculpting skills, I am not very good at chopping up models too, so I will be relying solely on kitbashing! I am sure lots of you are in the same boat as me. But hopefully this will be a great chance to push myself! So with that in mind here is an early WIP of my Warband: I'm basing my warband on Greywater Fastness from the Season of War. If you don't recall the conclusion for that city, they were basically overrun when they let off all their warmachines at once (including giant "macro" Hurricanums) that obliterated the entire countryside for miles in all direction. That countryside was already drained swampland, so being subject to a post-apocalyptic explosion no doubt left it dank, gnarly, polluted and an altogether grim place to live... With that in mind I thought the inhabitants should wear longcoats and hoods to keep off the acid rain as well as lanterns to see through the smog. As the place is quite technologically advanced I gave them all rifles and other gadgets like ad-hoc grenades and mechanical looking back packs. I plan to add in a Stormcast model to lead the group and invoke the classic INQ28 Space Marine appeal. The Chamber will be one of my own creation and the story around them is that the entire chamber is cursed. They were outside the city gates when the bombs went off and were obliterated along with the enemy, killed to the last man. Upon being reforged, every one of them returned not much more than a silent automaton - the most you'll get out of one is a whispered rasp to pass judgement on the agents of Chaos which they now hunt down. More to come soon, and I will start a plog somewhere on here to cover the progress! (PS I am looking for the lanterns off the Steamtank kit, if you have one going spare let me know! )

  48. Holy Sigmar! This is incredible! I'll get some of my WIPs posted up in this thread tonight. Can't wait to join in on the action! This is one of the most exciting things to happen in AoS so far!
