Need a good painting/workstation

Recommended Posts

I have just been using some small plastic drawers from ikea .. but i would like to get more organized.

I mainly use GW paints, I need something that can hold 100 or more, brushes, brush cleaner. Green stuff and tools, etc. Possibly something mobile.

Anyone have any tips on a good painting/workstation?

How mobile? There is an expensive citadel project box that can hold your tools, brushes, work mat but only up to 49 colour pots. It could be handy in case you do lots of traveling but it's too small for your entire paint collection.

Another possibility are artists supply boxes, I can't recommend you a specific one because there are lots in every different shape and size. A friend of mine picked up one from a random art store for 35€ that was just perfect but basically a noname product.

I'm using a modular paint stand from hobbyzone. You can add more pieces with different pot hole sizes, I've got one side for my Vallejo paints and the other for the GW ones. They have modules for tools and brushes too. It's good enough to pick up and carry through the house but not for travelling.

The citadel project box is expensive for what it is, but I splashed out recently as it seemed well suited to quick setup and tear-down, as well as easy to carry around.

I've painted a lot more since, so it's doing the job I bought it for and I'm happy with it despite the high cost - certainly better (to me) than having spent the same amount on more miniatures to add to the unpainted heap. :)

Note however:

- The new taller wash pots don't let the lid close when it the paint tray. o.O You can fit some in underneath but that kinda defeats the point a little...

- It's not secure enough to bring out and about, just to move around indoors

So perhaps that and an additional paint stand for your extra paints (and washes) would be a reasonable fit. Depends on your budget etc. of course!

@Simhis
Thanks for the info. By mobile I just mean, being able to move around the house. But I might prefer a good 100 paint non-mobile station and a separate mobile one.

This looks like a nice mobile station, If I know my colors and only need 18.

@Tommy
Thanks for the tip. I probably won't dish out the cash for the GW one, especially if it has issues.

I got this, and am really happy with it. I have it on my desk most of the time, and carry it down into the living room to paint in front of the telly.

The website only has one picture for some reason, but there's a review here with some more.

@fartsocks
That looks really nice. Maybe a little small

For holding a lot of paint, this is interesting

a more modular option might be good since i have a lot of paints

This is really cool, tons of paint, and a light, and it folds into a box!. But probably dosent take into account larger wash bottles, that would probably interfere with closing into a box...

I dunno, that last one feels like the opposite of what I seem to need.

If I'm not opening my first paint pot within about 15 seconds it tends not to happen at all! :)
