Transporting terrorgheist

I just put some foam in a shoebox myself, but then I live 5 min from my gaming club.

Not sure what your price range is or if you are looking for something you can do yourself at home, but Battle Foam surposed to have custom trays with cutouts for all big GW miniatures. Don't have any myself to know how good they are.

Ok guys. Looking for ideas on how people are transporting their terrorgheists.   Such a massive model especially with the wings on.

I use my Battlehive by Crystal Caste. Its a strong, lightweight case and the model fits very good, fully glued. I took this to Adepticon and zero issues.

magnetize the bottom of the base, and affix sheet metal to the bottom of a hard sided case or plastic bin.  Alternatively, affix a sheet of magnet to the bottom of the bin, such that a small piece of sheet metal will stick to that, and then the terrorgheist to the sheet metal (I do it this way, as my infantry are magnetized to stick to metal unit trays which in turn stick to the magnets fixed to the bottom of the case).  Many hardware and home goods stores sell sheet metal (check to make sure the metal you get will hold a magnet), rolls of magnet that can be used to magnetize the bottoms of your bases, and magnetic 'vent covers' that can be used to magnetize the bottoms of your cases, and spray glue that can use to glue the vent covers in flat.

MC1 did a good video an the set up:

the main trick is finding good cases to use.  You'll want something with flat bottoms, stackable, not too big in length and especially width, preferably coming in varrying heights so that you can have shorter cases for infantry & taller cases for like monsters or whatever, and some particularly tall stuff (like nagash) is still best covered by gluing in some foam bedding and dividers to lay it on its side, if you're not willing/able to magnetize sub-assemblies.

It's no good for shipping or plane travel, that you really need a hard case & foam.  But for car travel & fast deployment & clean up at tournaments or the like, this is the best set up, imo, especially with the little wheely cart.

The Tablewar carry cases are amazing for large and/or fragile models.  I got one (the Mk III)  for my Sylvaneth, which you just cant really take in a foam carry case.

I didnt bother with all the inserts you can buy, just cut some tin and stuck it to the pull-out shelves (one their advice).  Can carry about 3000 points of treefolk without risk of breakage.

Unfortunately you can't currently get them in the UK and I needed to get one sent to a location I was visiting on a business trip to the US.

The table war system is nice, if sadly about as expensive as battlefoam.  Magnets hold units to their unit trays, the unit trays sit on the shelves, and the shelves slide into the case rails.  All very nice and modular.  I have some minor complaints about the system - it's not as deep as I'd like, there's no good way to do 'half shelves' if, for instance, you have one super tall model that doesn't take up the width of the whole case (eg, Nagash), but again, those are just minor complaints.

Unfortunately, there is one major complaint.  Magnets hold the minis to the unit trays, and rails hold the shelves to the case, but there is nothing holding the unit trays to the shelves other than happy thoughts and fairy dust and the laughter of smiling babies.  If you hit a bump in the road,, or if the case ever leans to far to one side, such one might if you were to wheel a heavy case of minis around on a cart, those unit trays seem quite capable of hopping right out of their little spots to clatter all around.

I'd imagine you could magnetize the shelf yourself to hold those unit trays in place, but you really shouldn't have to go through that much trouble when you're paying so much for your minis case to begin with.

MC1's method will be more hassle, since you have to find the bins you want and fix them up on your own, but the result will likely be cheaper, and will probably be safer for your transported models as well.
