TristanGray
Progress! Convinced some of my pals to try out Skirmish, and I used that as a carrot to get some paint on my favourite skeletons. Started and finished a liche priest to lead my party and got the first few coats and washes on a necropolis knight. Still trying to figure out what to do with the ribs on the snake. Think I should go with gold OR bone, or gold and bone!?
Opposix
I went with bone on mine. I wanted them to look like they were skelletons of a giant snake rather than an animated construct. I think either gold or bone would look both look great though!
TristanGray
Oooooooh that looks good. Think I might have to shift gears and go with bone. Thanks for sharing. Super cool!

TristanGray
Stepping outside my comfort zone and working on a Liche Priest(ess) conversion; what do y'all think? I'm into the gender bending vibe of the very mannish face. Reminds me of queens who ruled in Egypt who wore death masks that were similar. Still need to figure out what I'm going to do with the top of the staff and the sword butt. Also want to add a one or two more TK bits to ground her a bit. Sugggggggestions?
TristanGray
Lil' update. Slimmed down the burial mask to make it a bit more feminine. Swapped out the old staff for a new one. Chopped up a sepulchral stalker's spear to make it. Hacking up out of print sprues is going to give me a heart condition. Now on to changing out the knife. With the big blade at the end of the staff I think I should make it smaller and maybe use one that's a different shape. I think a squiggly blade might be in her future.
TristanGray
Painting up the rest of my necropolis knights has gone quite a bit faster, and has really helped solidify some of the decisions I've made across the army. I've haphazardly swapped around my golds and what I've used as my wash mixture up until this point but now I'm for sure going to be using,Base: zandri dustLayer: liberator gold(one coat)Wash: gloss reikland fleshHighlight: aulric goldTop highlight: stormhost silver My thought process is I want the gold to have this sun bleached feel to it, a desaturated one. So instead of sticking out, it helps to frame the brighter blue and pink colours in my army. I think I'm accomplishing this with the zandri base and the single coat of liberator. What do you guys think?
TristanGray
I've done a fair bit more to them since taking those photos. I'll post my progress later!
TristanGray
Got some work done. Still a WIP, but getting much closer to the finished project. Still need to do some of the highlighting and decide finally if I should add some grasses and little blue coral pieces.
Davariel
Those knights are looking really nice! I'd say the soft gold blends very nicely with the white and helps the bright colours stand out more - keep up the great work I still can't believe that GW discontinued such beautiful models, but kept selling hideous stuff like the fell bats and bat swarms...

I also feel like these, along with the other newer TK kits really do fit the aesthetic of AOS. I've had such a great time playing the army. Pretty bummed on the decision all and all. Hopefully the new death rattle stuff, what ever and when ever that is, will be awesome
TristanGray
I fell off the wagon after my partner and I bought a house(my hobby time has become insulating a 100 year old house in eastern Canada) But now that the house is as insulated as it going to get till spring I’m back in action! Finished up a few conversions for a mounted Liche Priest, Tomb Herald and Necromancer. Also worked on some skeletal horsemen and added in Arkhan the Black. Really pleased with how my squad marking turned out on the skeletal horsemen. I think that unit really helped me turn a corner with how I want the army to feel when I’m all said and done. I’ve added more finishing touches to my basing scheme and am starting to go back over what I’ve finished, adding in the visual variety that my basic yellow sand bases were lacking. I’m not where I want to be with the army but I’m happy with the progress I’ve made since coming back to hobbying. Genuinely think Arkhan is the best model I’ve ever painted. Cheers gang!
TristanGray
Trying to put together a fun list for the new Legions Of Negash book and I’m diving into the Legion of Sacrament. Got plans to use a Mortis Engine and I’m planning a hopefully pretty sick conversion. Going to use the Casket of Souls, a Skycutter chariot*, and the Mortis Engine. Hard part will be finding the Skycutter for a decent price, seeing as I only want the chariot* bit. But, that’s beside the point. With the new book came new rules and new models to build. Here’s my first attempt at a suitable gravesite marker. Going to need to make another 3 so I can take full advantage of the new healing mechanics. Any thoughts on it? Plan to measure from that top spike. Please check out the video attached for a better idea of it. cheers gang! * not a chariot, as discussed by HWG CCF07B67-30A5-4934-8A5D-B5FACBE061B3.MOV Edited February 15, 2018 by TristanGray

TristanGray
A traitor from the Necropolis Knights of Khatep’s Spear has fallen to Nagash’s silver tongue. Hassan Ishtar, otherwise know as “The Dagger of Ahomtep” was in life a trusted member of tomb legion. A Necropolis Captain known for his even keel and fair judgements - an aberration to the usual hard line the captains took in their duties. Ishtar was mocked by his peers for being too lenient and too slow to act. Thinking and weighing his options when he should be doing in their minds. But it was not them whom Hassan Ishtar answered too, it was Prince Ahomtep. The prince trusted Ishtar and his timely actions. “A well timed dagger, is more deadly than any kopesh.” The prince would say. Since being raised from the sands of the endless deserts Ishtar’s outlook changed. Gone was the even keel & fairness. In their stead was a brash cunning and hot headed furvor. Trading in his well timed dagger, for a heavy cleaving axe. With that loss so did his favour with Ahomtep also slip. A will to be taken seriously and to show that he could act with haste was all consuming. He showed his former legionaries just how deadly serious he was, giving up his mantle as captain to take up a new position. As soon as he was asked he kept at the chance to show all that he could be decisive. No longer would he be mocked, ridiculed or looked down upon. For his ascendency gave him power and the command of an entire army, not just a few snake riders. The old Hassan Ishtar is truly gone now. And so are those other Necropolis Captains. Tricked by one of their own into an ambush - Skeletons picked apart by amethystian spirits. Their bones now scattered across the Endless Deserts. This is Ishtar, now the Axe of Ahomtep, Knight of Shrouds: Edited February 17, 2018 by TristanGray New nickname needed

TristanGray
Got something I’m pretty proud of. My “Engine Of Souls” a Casket Of Souls - Mortis Engine hybrid. Ever since I saw the Casket Of Souls I knew I wanted it in my army. Since I’ve shifted my list building to work with the Legion of Sacrament I knew I needed to have a Mortis Engine. So I thought, “Well how do I combine the two?” I worked out the core parts of each model. So for example, the Mortis Engine needed the ghostly smoke knights, and a necromancer to keep it true to itself. The Casket Of Souls needed the guards, the casket itself and a liche priest. Knowing I wanted a tomb king bent to it I decided to replace any parts I could with TK bits. So the necromancer was out, and the liche priest was in for sure. I then tried adding the guards and was pleasently surprised that they also fit well. The casket was the tough part. I tried it in about 4 or 5 different spots before a pal on a WhatsApp chat suggested the obvious, to place it in front of the liche priest. Low and behold it worked almost perfectly! Thanks Stonemonk! With those in place I set about to TK up the Mortis Engine. I chopped off a bunch of plain skulls and added in TK heads. From there I swapped in the TK long shields where I could and used TK weapons where they made sense. Most notably on the three knights at the front where I used my last Tomb Guard head and some other bits from that wonderful kit. All and all I’m incredibly pleased with it and I’m excited to work on the base next. My goal is to work in the milder base from the casket of souls so I can get a sense of satisfaction by using all that kit. Painting this sucker is going to take forever but I’m looking forward to it.
