And if possible finish my first unit of spartan style Chaos Warriors.

So working on my second pledge. 300pt of Dark Elves and I need your advise. I decided to go big and bought a second hand black dragon. I have a nice soft daomon hide based color for the under belly and head (needs a bit of touch up and highlights still) and will work on all details later.

But my question! I don't know what to do with the membrane on the wings. Should I add color? Leave them blacks but paint the muscles and bones in the wings? I'm stuck so any suggestions or inspiration is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Edit: Because I bought it second hand it's missing the metal/golden guard plates that add a bit of colour and contrast to the model.

I'll get my Skaven warlord finished to high standard, plus 7 clanrats to decent tabletop quality. That's my goal. Bonus would be doing mould line clean ups on some weapons teams and assembling rat ogres and reavers.

Plus my 6 yr old lad will get 10 swordmasters done with my help :)

Display board done! Was a new experience for sure but good fun and happy with how it came out! Makes a good start to a playing table too. Will post more pictures to my own thread and blog when it's in store with the rest of the force on the board!726e953b56099a42be203b2d83785de5.jpgc0d698dee3ccf6489b300a777cd7e88b.jpg916adb32eb586b1c4dabdb99ec5fe3df.jpg

@Let's 'ere it for da boyz!:

First, for edge highlighting there are many options; however the easiest way particularly for all that metal is either using runefang steel or the new silver whose name escapes me right this second.

To get a neat coat on your highlight, use a small brush (the smallest you own, there are many out there, I have brushes from GW and Army Painter) and get a reasonable amount on the brush. Thin it down with water to a milky consistency, then wipe the excess off on a tissue or paper towel. Angle the model to about 45 degrees from the edge you want to highlight, then carefully drag the brush along the edge you want highlight. Takes a bit of practice but for things like the armour and the hammer it will make it pop well. And yes, silver on gold sounds weird but it really does work. For the armour plates, not sure what the right highlight colour would be (maybe Temple Guard Blue or Sybarite Green) but that will be tricky now you have the rest of the model done.

Check out any number of you tube videos on this (Wargamer or GW's own Duncan Rhodes) to get good tips, but just try it out on a model you don't really mind messing up or can just respray to get a feel for it. It takes some practice and I am by no means an expert painter; however this is how I was taught and get decent results. With practice you will get there in no time.

On topic, here are the first five of my ten bonesplitterz:

Well this was fun ? I suddenly felt the urge to make something of my bitbox and had a lot of fun making these 3 jezzail teams (not to mention saving a lot of money)

Amazingly, and probably due to the long weekends, I have managed to meet my contract for this month. First up, a group shot:

This is all 10 of the savage orruks and the wardokk.  I think they turned out pretty well, although the photos don't seem to have picked up most of the highlighting, which is annoying. Anyway, the command group:

I was aiming for a sandstone type look on the banner. I think if/when I do another one, i would use the texture paint (Typhus corrosion or similar) and then paint over to get that rougher look. Lastly, the Wardokk:

First, I hate finecast... such a pain to paint and model and make work... and the amount of flash you find... anyway, I love the model and I found the little guy in the bits box and thought it was mildly amusing. Anyway, a fun challenge and I look forward to joining in some more this year. Its a good way to stay motivated, and as there are still another 40 ish models for my Destruction army to get through...

So, I'm currently running WAY behind in my pledge. The conversions and greenstuff work took more time from my hobby time than expected. The unit of 10 Brutes will be finished by the deadline (Friday night for the FLGS painting contract on Saturday), and I'm planning to have the bases as well. I'll have some newer in progress photos after I'm done with work. After that, the Chamon Brutes will get a nice coat of paint. Unless I have a lot of hobby energy available to me this week, they may not get done.

In progress from about a week ago.

Current WIP. I'm liking the skin.IMG_20170425_181720668.jpg.5333fa4918dc3905364816d9e4f15028.jpg

I think I was a bit optimistic with my pledge. The month just got too full of other stuff although I did manage to paint my garden fence.

I did manage to build up all of my stormcast but only managed a single tester. Hope to finish these in may.

I'm a bit late in posting these (they've been done for over a week... 9_9) but I got my hunters done and fulfilled my pledge:

And as a bonus I even painted a handful of old Lord of the Rings dwarves I had lying around! (okay, they're tiny, they didn't take long)

I'm a few days late in getting mine posted, but here we go. Didn't complete my pledge:( But, I did get the 10 brutes I've had since January done. Still toying with a good photo setup, so sorry about the poor lighting/grainy pictures.

I like the work I did on the skin; dark green is hard to work up from in some cases though. I tried doing a softer dry brush/highlight on the armor, as opposed to my first set of Brutes. While I think it worked well, it's such a subtle highlight on the red (and more so on the purple) that it looks like I just did a base coat.

Lesson learned for May: Don't include models that need greenstuff, especially if 15/16 models need greenstuff work. Those additional Orruk heads are a pain to put onto Brute bodies.

I failed. Real life happened but in a good way for once.

I got lots of GS mushrooms done but building terrain from scratch takes more design considerations than I initially thought so getting the mushroom on the base for the terrain took forever as most parts needed painting in small step to get it all covered.

Ill be back!

Great work in this thread overall!

I'm off to a good start here with the green stuff!

Perhaps not master sculpting but quantity over quality here for making mushrooms in bulk and maybe I'll have enough to start my forest too one day.

any good advises for not getting finger prints on the GS surface? I try to use plenty of water on my fingers. My metal tools are often too sharp/edgy to smoothen anything without bending the mushroom heads a bit.

These look cool. One tip i got from someone else is using a small amount of vaseline to stop finger prints.
