Free People 1000p list. Need guidance...

Ive been thinking about starting a Free people army. 1000p is what i want to aim att first. But i have no clue about the do's and dont's in this army. 

 

How would you play a 1000p with competitive focus?

 

I like swords and shield battleline and handgunner. They good?

Please be dirty..since my gaming group is all about the competiive side of the game.

Gunline.

General on foot with his command hability. Put an Hurricanum in it to the +1 to hit and you end with a gunline hitting in 2 and wounding in 2. The point its to buff your riflemen as you can. Freeguild troops with sword and shield can make a good screen to your riflemen.

(Thats what I read online. I'm actually no freeguild player)

Working on a 2k list aswell. Feedback on this? Would mean alot. Im in a competitive meta so dont hold back on cheese If I missed something

2x cannon with Cogsmith seems good for the reroll to hit. Viable?

Needed some fast cav for objectives. Demi gryphs good? Or what do you use.

Drop one unit of hand gunners and beef one up to 30. You get the bonuses to hit and room to lose models.  Can still split up shooting if you need too. 

Cannons are viable but rocket battery are dirty as well. 

Demigryph are over priced in my opinion and most objectives require you to have more models. But I would replace with pistoliers/ grenadiers and run the freeguild battalion.  

Also added a gryphhound for over watch  may want to replace mage with more of these

Kinda did a list I think would work with them:

General on horse

battle mage on horse 

hurricanum

gunmaster(engineer)

20 guard

20 guard

30 gunners

5 pistols

5 grenadiers

gryphound

2 cannons

freeguild battalion

2000 on the nose  

others more experienced may disagree.  Just my two cents.

I dont own any old models thats not available by GW today. If your thinking something that way.

 
 
 

Ok @Kimbo . I ask because there is a big difference in my recommendation for a pure Free People army vs. a combined human force.

If I was starting again, I would take this 1,000pts force;

  • 100pts, Free Guild General on horse
  • 320pts, Celestial Hurricanum
  • 160pts, 20 Free Guild Swords & Shields
  • 200pts, 3 Demigryph Knights
  • 200pts, 2x10 Free Guild Hangunners (including 2 long guns), OR;
  • 200pts, 20 Free Guild Crossbow

 

With your 2,000pt army... I would;

  • Drop the Cogsmith
  • Drop the Cannons
  • Split out your handgunners to units of 10
  • Beef up your Guard to 30
  • Find a hard hitting unit.... Steam Tank, Greatswords, or another Hurricanum
