Running 4 Magmadroths

Does this list have enough meat for a fyreslayers army? It's a relatively low model count to make up for the big magma lizards. All buff heroes to support my core units of hearthguard and berzerkers.

My Gut feeling is that taking 4 leaves you without enough bodies. 

 

 Going to try 3 shortly but not sure you get any real mileage out of a 3rd Smiter mounted on one. Do think Father and 2 Smithers could work well tho ☺

You don't seem to have a way to remove elite units or monsters other than throwing blobs at them and hoping for the best (which is alright but not great).

The thing with Monster spam lists is that the monsters people spam are the ones that are undercosted and are powerful enough to be feared in multiple situations. I don't know how Magmadroths rank now with the points reduction, but I do know that they're not particularly scary against anything other than blobs and slightly larger semi-elite units like Swordmasters. The most you can say is that they're hard to kill because it's 12 wounds that can't Battleshock off, but isn't that the same as having a massive Fyreslayer blob with the 4+ ward save, or potentially worse?

Test it out, but I don't think that they're really the spam type of monsters.

Loose a few of the magmadroths. They die faster than you might think (and that is their job). They are best against units, the 10 sword masters mentioned before would likely not survive against it but the reason is as it causes mortal wounds when it bleeds on the units within 3" (including your own) many of its attacks also require you to roll less than the number of models in the unit you are attacking. Not hard to roll less than 10 on the sword masters or maybe 40 rats in hats, but 1 hero or 3 trolls or units of 5 that have taken losses make these attacks hard or impassible to use. I use 1 with a runeson on it and I throw it out at my opponent or put t on an objective and hope it kills its points worth before it dies, normally it does not. But it does buy me time to position other things. Replace 1 with 1 or 2  Grimwrath Berzerkers or something else.

Been playing against a fair bit of Fyreslayers with the new points, I really think 2 Magmadroths is the way to go. They aren't very resilient and function best as counter-punch and buff bots. A lot of my local players seem to use them like BCR and it hasn't been paying off much. Fyreslayers footmen are extremely resilient, let your opponent break themselves on that and then plug the gaps where needed.

3-4 also gives you Scenario problems and really opens you up to shooting/Mortal Wound armies. It would probably do well against a very melee heavy army but those aren't in much popularity at the moment.

in this case with no tunneling I'd consider merging into 20 hearthguard but looks like you need them as battleline.

At the new point costs, Vulkite berzerkers are 60 points.  I'd bump that unit up to 35 and you'll be at an even 2000. 

I'd combine at least on the the units of Auric Hearthguard, maybe all 3, and give them throwing axes! 

Otherwise list too looks good!
