Battletomes vs Grand Alliance Book

Recommended Posts

Always get the newer product. So you need the Battletome. It gives you up to date Warscolls and Battalions plus the new Battletomes are the only places to find your army specific abilities.

The grand alliance books were good around the time they came out and if your army doesn't have it's own Battletome yet.

The grand alliance books are a compendium of all the warscrolls for units in an alliance. These are all freely available online so you are paying for a nice printed format. They are not essential.

The battletomes are faction specific, they contain background, battleplans. Warscrolls and the important battalions for your faction. These are essential if you want to get the most from your faction, but you can still play without.

The Grand Alliance books do have some battalions that are not available for free. However, with any faction that has had a book published since the Sylvaneth book, you get allegiance bonuses and whatnot that are frequently better (and more faction-specific) than the ones in the General's Handbook. If you're looking at Tzeench, get the Battletome -- you'll get your money's worth for sure.

I don't think the Grand Alliance book will have the Silver Tower stuff in it, get the Tzeentch Battletome which does.

Good point, anything released after the handbook came out won't be included i.e. A lot or tzeentch models.
