Zhorphorus
Hi guys!! I was wondering if anyone knows of some great techniques to achieve thick snow for bases? I'm going to be basing both models and wyldwoods (citadel woods) and was wanting a really thick blizzard effect. I was going to try to implement drifts into it as well If you have any photos of what it comes out like that would be awesome! Thanks guys! Kuma
Baking soda and elmer's glue makes a great thick paste
DemonWolfkin
Caster sugar and PVA glue. Mix until so it is fairly thick but still runny. If needs be add white paint and mix as well.Apply to bases and leave to dry.Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
HeadHunter
If you're using baking soda, be sure to put in a drop or two of white paint, otherwise it will yellow with age. Better to use scenic snow, as it will not dissolve in water, and white glue rather than the standard PVA. Also, you might still want to put some scenic features like small rocks or tufts of dead grass - a broad expanse of snow on a base can look monotonous otherwise. ZealousJ
I experimented with decorators caulk bases recently and whilst it didn't get the results I wanted it did occur to me that it could make decent snow bases with a little work.
Totzro
I really dig GWs new snow texture paint. I've used a mixture of pva glue and snow flock for good results as well previously

Totzro
Yes the Skaven is based with Valhallan Blizzard texture paint, I'm super impressed by it!
HeadHunter
I like the fluffy texture of the snow on the Khador Battle Mechaniks. Is that also the Valhallan Blizzard, or something else?
Veillotron
@Turragor: this looks really good. Quick question: when sticking the model to the base, do you use super glue, super glue + pins or do you scrape off some of the paint and use plastic glue? I usually superglue and pin models to a base when I prep them separate yep.
Durant
I paint my models on a pin, then do the base, when all is done I super glue the model pin and base together, I just drill a hole in the base and put a pin covered in super glue to it. Veillotron
@Durant and @Turragor: thank you gents for confirming!
Durant
Just plan the base, foot with the pin should touch some surfece so you can't see the pin.
