Warhammer Quest: The Silver Tower. Hopes and dreams

Recommended Posts

With the first pictures  and info from the new game due to drop any day now I thought it would be worth speculating a little about what we might see in the game.

For me I hope that content wise it follows the pattern set by the deathwatch game. So here is my hope for the miniatures.

Heroes : 1 ogre, 1 Seraphon Saurus, 1 vampire, 2 Stormcast, 2 Duardin, 2 Aelves, and 2 Humans.

Chaos:  I demon prince, 1 sorceress, 1 warrior hero, 6 pink horrors, 12 blue horrors, 2 familiars, 8 bird men, 9 warriors.

That would be the same number of minis as Deathwatch and would be pretty much a dream come true.

As for the rules and the board I hope they don't stray to far from the first Warhammer Quest game.

In the future I hope they continue to support the game. Being able to have Skaven or Orruks as the antagonists would be great.

It would also not be too difficult to give future clam pack heroes rules to use them in the game.

I am very nervous about this game because as you can see my expectations for the game are pretty high.

How about you? What are you wanting to see from the game? Are you excited about it?

I think boxes like this are a great way to give a whole bunch of mini-factions new stuff. I'm looking forward to the plastic ogor hero.

I'm interested, but not going nuts. Got plenty to paint already. If I think it looks cool I'll buy it. Never played Warhammer Quest so got no past association with the name.

Am I excited? Yes. Very much so.

What I would like to see in the game:

  • On the side of good four characters: Stormcast (Tank), Duardin (Beatstick), Aelf (Damage and shenanigans), Human Wizard (ranged and buff)
  • On the evil side, the same as you Chikout, although I would want 18 bird men from your list
  • A decent quality cardboard board with nice art and graphic design
  • A set of rules that are to AoS as Warhammer Quest was to Warhammer (i.e. a bit more detail and everything a bit more individual but easily translatable between the two).

That would give players a nice start on a Tzeentch army if that is their thing without too many characters, also make it easier for a casual gamer/ board game market as it can be designed around a five player mode, but still give the iconic good guys the opportunity for some really lovely models. Also, if the rules were a close relative to the main rules then we can as players easily incorporate current and future models into the game.

Long term I would really like to see occasional one week release slots for things like new tiles and mission packs, character packs, small villain packs (which if priced right could also be an easy way into the hobby - selling a 5 pack of stormvermin, or two blight kings say at a reasonable price get a couple of them along with the box set and suddenly you are most of the way to a playable force), new magic spells etc. Doesn't need to be much but a continued release model would be great.

THIS!!!!

I think with the way they are releasing things for AoS, it should be fairly easy for them to release models for both games as we can have the rules on the web and then a book each year or something.

They could even have print out for new rooms which you could use (assuming it's going to be like Warhammer Quest)

I too really want them to expand upon this continually.

It would be a real shame if this was limited to contents of the box.

Well if they don't, it shouldn't be too hard to knock up some rules to cover some expansions. I suspect I'll end up doing this depending on how distracted I get with AoS, Blood Bowl and any other Specialist Games they come out with! ;)

For me it depends on how units/tiles are picked. If it's a card set (like WHQ) then my OCD will kick in if it's clear the next card on the pile is a DIY one.

Perhaps Execution Force will be closer in scale for expectations rather than our beloved WHQ.

I want as many different heroes as possible. This will be the first AoS-specific models for a lot of races! Should be fairly indicative of where the various races will be going in the future.

Not really bothered by the tzeench stuff. But I hope it's cool so the guys who like tzeench finally get some new toys.

I wouldn't mind an 'everything in one box' set without further expansions (but maybe because I've already got quite a lot to paint). If it's anything like Warhammer Quest, then there would be plenty of scope to build new adventures with regular AoS models.

Looking forward to the Tzeentch elements. Looking forward to the whole thing.

I want it to be like Warhammer Quest with the individual room tiles but I think I'm half expecting something like Execution Force. It should still be possible to create things though, as most printers are good enough for this now and people have access to the things to make them look nice ;)

I hope it keeps the old card-based AI.  Most of the similar games out now have one player being the big baddie/overlord/dungeon master.  Never cared for that.  The old WQ, which I played until my fingers bled, worked great without one player having to sit out as the evil side's controller.

I'll second that. One of the things that made Quest great was playing with your buddies against the dungeon hordes. Sure the card based AI was totally unforgiving and brutal at times but that was part of the fun. You winced every time you entered a room and flipped over an event card, and if you managed to get to the end of the quest you were genuinely proud. Quest was a great game, I hope the rumors of its return, in whatever form, are true...

Absolutely.  And those games when the freakin' wizard would keep rolling those 1's to spawn a random encounter.  You'd have a queue of baddies stretching down the next three dungeon tiles.  Good times, good times!

The potential for Specialist Games to make GW's range great again gets me excited every time I think about it.  Whilst the other games would be tempting, The Silver Tower is the one I'm really looking forward to.  I'm a Tzeentch player as it.  Couple this with the idea of being able to buy minis I can also use in AoS, and I'm in!

In terms of hopes, blue horrors would be great (and rules to use them in AoS when pink horrors split).  I'd also really like to see Tzeentch's equivalent of Blightkings or Wrathmongers.  Some 40mm 'monstrous infantry' would be cool.  Maybe it's the birdmen.
