WiP Wednesdays

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted any projects but since I’ve had some time and switching to something different to keep the creative juices flowing..

I’ve dredged up a ~10year old unfinished conversion of a breyherd shaman I was making for Mordheim.. was based on critters from a swamp..

I present to you the Egret Great Breyshaman

I have since scrapped his neck, back, and arm feathers & am currently reworking them into what you see here.

still a lot left to do before figuring out what kind of ‘clothes’ and trinkets he will have.

If anyone is wondering what bits:

-bloodletter body

-OOP Bret men@arms standard bearer crane top.

Nearly have another unit of Drakespawn Knights done. Just the gold to do, tidy up some black and silver. Then of course the snow bases.

You can see the gold here:

And I couldn't resist starting the Hydra at last. A coat of Stegadon Scale and Nuln Oil so far. Its going to be greener ultimately, and will be a mid ground colour wise between my Black Dragon, which will use similar tones, and the greeny-blue Drakespawn.

I found Pirazzo’s Lost Legion!  Bought these miniatures about 10 years ago, but didn’t do anything with them and then shelved them.  But I’ve dug them out again and I think they could be the start of a Free Peoples army!

Love those. Have them in a box with the same thought as you!

They’re fantastic aren’t they?  I need at least 5 (perferably 15) more, but they’re so incredibly rare!

Alcatani’s Fellowship minis however are quite common, though still expensive.

The dutch ebay (www.marktplaats.nl) often has old Dogs of war coming by. With google translate it should be easy enough to set up a notification if they become available

Currently on sale: Ricco's Guard, Midas the mean, Dogs of War general, Galloper Cannon. Less relevant but still available: the giants of albion and Khan's wolf riders.

@Kramer  Awesome stuff.  Good to know that they’re readily available.

I’m looking to create a themed list, and therefore I think The Lost Legion are the best for this on account of the mixed weapons.  It’s just a shame that they’re so rare.

If anyone spots any Lost Legion minis for sale, please let me know!  I know of one set on sale, but it’s £145, which is pretty steep.

That’s insane. I’ll set up a notification but send me a PM so I can find who was looking for them when it pings.

I know it’s wednesday but I’m excited by the progress, did all the wings and bronze on my 4 Khinerai. But I must admit that I’m seriously messing up so much more on these then the first test model 😓 Knowing it’s due to concentration sadly doesn’t help. Just look at the smudges at the wings 😅

1st pic WIP, 2nd finishes test model.

Painting eyes is difficult. However, these are my steps:

Paint basecoat and wash on face.

If the wash is dark enough in the eye recess, paint a nice couple of thin coats of white. Use a good tipped brush and the paint has to be a good consistency. Too thin and runs, too thick and you won't have the working time before your brush is drying. If it's not dark in the eye sockets, Rhinox or black before the white. In either case, a bit of darkness around the edges helps define the eye.

When the white is white, paint black lines, not dots, from above the eye to below. This gets a bit of black on the eyebrow or cheek, but you should get two even lines on both sides. Make sure you look at the model dead on here.

Tidy up the face when you finish the layers.

I'm rubbish at photography but these might show the outcome.

Good luck. I regularly get it wrong myself but practice makes perfect.

One other tip, is that you need to have your hands in such a way that your hands are very steady. I can't really explain it, but the way I hold the painting grip means my left thumb and left little finger sort of support the right hand. I'd take a photo but I need 3 hands to show you! 😂

I've been painting Tyranids for Kill Team lately so haven't felt I should overdo the posts on an AoS forum because people aren't here for that.

I love WIP Wednesday. Even though Weds are a pain for me (meetings after work, daughter at Guides), it forces me to do a bit of hobby I might ordinarily skip.

Okay I'll bite, even if it's not Wednesday anymore. I've dabbled into some Shadespire before but these are my first true AoS models. They are pretty much done for tabletop duties but I still need to do some basing and add a coat of varnish. Hope you like them!
