Hello folks and welcome to the Painting Contract for February 2023.

This is it, the month of  “Short Painting Contract”. What can you get done?

Start your new year out right and get building and painting, and start the new year out on a fresh hobby track and let’s get hobbying in the new year!

If you don't know the rules they are:

Each month you post an amount of models that you agree to try to paint/build/convert/sculpt. This can be terrain or models for Age Of Sigmar, Warcry, Blood Bowl, Blitz Bowl, Dungeon Bowl, Warhammer Underworlds, Warhammer Quest, Gorechosen, or HeroQuest

On the 28th of the month the contract closes and you can then post your progress images so that they can be critiqued, shared and boasted about. It is a great way to get involved in the community and to get inspiration.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone share their progress!

Enjoy!

I also tried some dryads but dont know what to pick. Maybe ill go for a multiple colour army for once and make a few different ones, not sure yet.

I have not posted here for a while, because I started a new job and had to move. But I am finally getting back into painting.

Before my break I started working on an OBR battleforce box. I have a bit of a rough history with battleforces, because when I got into Warhammer I bought a big box of Tomb Kings and the amount of models absolutely broke me. So it is pretty personally significant to me that I have this box almost completely finished except for a few Mortek guard:

These guys are my speed painting army. I have chosen their colour and basing scheme with ease of painting in mind. I am using a lot of spped and effect paints on them, as well as uncontrolled techniques like drybrushing. Because of this, you will definitely be able to spot some imperfections on them if you look closely. I take the time to carefully paint high impact details like eyes, though.

Their bases are supposed to be what I imagine a Gravesand desert would look like. I was worried the "space" effect would be too dark, initially, but I think it actually works pretty well.

I have managed to finish first 10 Bloodletters (out of 20). The bases for some of them still need to be done, but I'll finish them during the week.

I like the green bases. Nice contrast to the red. Small detail but sometimes a good base goes a long way imho.

Edit: didnt get around to painting this week but i finished my goals at least.

So, I’ve failed with the Mortek Guard. They’re close to ready, but not there yet. There are two reasons for this - firstly, I’ve batch painted them with Stalkers. Secondly, I’ve been tempted by GW to dip my toes in the spawning pool - and I did, assembling some skinks and working on test bases.
