WarbossKurgan
Animosity III is brewing behind the scenes: it will be set in the Prime Dominion, in Haixiah - the hinterlands of Hysh. So I've been thinking a lot about making a Hysh board with the Shrine Luminor (when its released) and some artificial bonsai trees. I have a vague plan to cut the rocky island in half horizontally, ground the top half as a "normal" building (i.e. not a floating island building!) and flip the bottom half to use it as a rocky "mountain". I am also looking for the ruins from Teclis' base to use on the bases of two or three fake plastic bonsai trees. The paint recipe, on the back of the Teclis box, for the ruins is apparently a Karak Stone basecoat, with Spacewolf Grey Contrast Paint over the top, then a highlight with Karak Stone and lighter greys. I like the blueish tint so I will be going for that look too. +++ This will all have to be acquired and done before the summer, so I want to keep the number of pieces of scenery quite low. I've ordered three fake bonsai trees from Ikea and part of Teclis's base ruins. I'm keeping an eye out for more ruins at a price I can afford. ~~~ After giving up on the idea of using artificial bonsai trees (the affordable ones look really cheap and nasty in real life) I managed to get hold of some of the old (and sadly out of production) Citadel Woods. With a bit of careful branch-removal and assembling the leaves "wrong" I have been able to reproduce the Hysh trees that the GW studio team made for the Lumineth promo photos. I have saved all the removed branches to make smaller trees! The Shrine Luminor is on pre-order this weekend, so the next stage of my Haixiah board can begin soon! I also built a third tree and tried to take some step-by-steps during the build. 1. Lay out a circle of big leaves. 2. Glue on more over the joins. 3. Glue smaller ones over the top. 4. When dry, flip and attach the tree by gluing leaves against it underneath Three trees (and a little shrub): Edited March 25, 2021 by WarbossKurgan 14

Tommy
Love the sketches, pity your cat knocked your nice cup of tea all over them! 😋 Serious question, do you have a particular approach you like to use when painting/sealing the exposed foam borders on the foamcore scenery bases? I think I’d build a lot more scenery pieces if I had a good solution for this...

It protects them from the spray undercoat really well. 1
WarbossKurgan
I finished the first piece of scenery for my Hysh board and I have pre-ordered the Shrine Luminor, so I'll soon be able to start work on more pieces. The whole piece was spray undercoated black, then zenithal basecoated grey (both Halfords matt primer rattlecans). I dry-brushed the plastic parts with Ushabti Bone. For the ruins I basecoated them with Karak Stone, dry-brushed Ushabti Bone, then washed the whole thing with a mix of 10 parts Contrast Medium, 1 part Ultramaines Blue and 5 parts Aethermatic Blue. When the Contrast paint was completely dry I lightly dry-brushed Ushabti Bone a second time. The areas that had pooled with too much blue then got a focused wash of very thin Karak Stone, so the blue still just about showed through the Karak Stone, but much less intensely. The gold details were basecoated with Retributor Armour, washed with Agrax Earthshade and dry-brushed with Stormhost Silver. The tree trunk was painted with Gore-Grunta Brown Contrast and lightly dry-brushed Ushabti Bone again. The rocks were just washed with Nuln Oil. I went for an "early Autumn" look on the foliage: a Wraithbone basecoat, followed by a coat of Nazdreg Yellow Contrast, then a coat of Militarum Green Contrast. It gives a nice brownie-green colour that works with my Autumnal Warcry board but still looks green enough to feel like Hysh and not The Harrowmark. I also used "Scorched Grass" static grass to finish it off, instead of my normal "Dead Grass", to add to the slightly-less-deathly look.
WarbossKurgan
I'm using insulation foam to lift and level-off the upper and (flipped) lower halves of the Shrine Luminor as 2 separate pieces of scenery. I'm going to hide the water texture too: either paving slabs or earth. Or both. This was about half an hour in to the build. The flipped underside looks really good and a rocky outcrop. I will add a few of the tiny bonsai trees from the Shrine kit. I might add more foam but I will cover the foam chips with a nice think layer of texture and paint it as earth. I'm not going to try to recreate the rocky texture as it would never quite match and that might look weird or jarring. I'm really happy so far though. It's a little more complex than I'd hoped but nothing to bad. Edited April 9, 2021 by WarbossKurgan 7
MitGas
Great work indeed! I really love how you've turned the quite flat look of the citadel woods into an advantage - that's ingenious!
WarbossKurgan
The build is finished and I've undercoated it black and zenithal basecoated it grey. I hope to start painting it soon. 7

WarbossKurgan
The Sentinels will be used as the opposition in solo Warcry games for the Animosity III campaign: The Prime Dominion, that is due to start in July. Viktor has hacked the Wild Fighters rules from the Tome of Champions 2020, so they can work really well as a solo game. The are made from pretty-much all of the aelf parts I could find in my bits boxes. Some I bought for other projects, some were given to me by friends having a clear-out. I chose this blue and gold colour scheme to match my other Cities of Sigmar models, so I can use any of them in a "soup" list. +++ Taeral, Nomad Prince and leader of the Sentinels. A Harlequin Troupe Master body with Eternal Guard head, arms and shield. The "pocket dragon" is a helmet crest from something else (but I don't know what!) - I realised late in the build that the Nomad Prince's hawk has an attack so I thought I should add something to represent it! The backpack is greenstuff, to cover the high-tech looking one the Harlequin body came with. Ilimitar, mage-librarian. This was the most satisfying one to build - the parts were all from a bag of High Elf leftovers a friend gave me years ago. I can't identify which kits the bits come from but the way all the ribbons and bookmarks and cloak all flow the same direction is VERY pleasing to my eye! This archer was made from two mismatched Lumineth body parts I was given recently. The right arm is from a Freeguild archer, the left arm and cloak are from Glade Guard. I think the head is High Elf... The two Eternal Guard were built straight out of the box. As were the Wildwood Rangers and Warden. The Warden's base-topper is from a High Elf Mage I think. The Glade Guard was an eBay bits purchase but I don't know if the two sword-arms are supposed to both be on one model.
WarbossKurgan
I have finished the Shrine Luminor and rocky outcrop for my Hysh Warcry board. I'm fairly pleased with the "marble effect" on the shrine, but it was definitely more luck than skill. I was trying to match the colours on the box and it didn't come out as well as I'd hoped, but it looks okay so I'm happy. A Wildwood Ranger for scale! (on a 25mm base) +++ I have a couple more pieces in progress for this project - I managed to get the "other" part of the ruins from Teclis' base from a bits reseller and I had two more Hyshian tohnasai trees built. I hope to get them both painted in the next few days. +++ You can join me, and over one hundred other narrative Warhammer players, for Animosity III, which begins Wednesday 14th July 2021 and will run for 5 weeks (5 turns) until Saturday 14th August! The Iscarneth Ceraphate stands on a knife's edge as six Satrapies prepare for war. With no Satrap able to assure victory on their own, their emissaries have scoured the realms for interests willing to support their claim to the throne of this unspoiled and nigh-unassailable paradise. Featuring overhauled diplomacy and figurehead mechanics paired with an improved Narrative Path system and twice(!) as many Unfolding Narrative writers, Team Animosity expects this to be our best instalment to date. WarbossKurgan
Two more pieces of Hysh scenery for the Prime Dominion - tohnasai trees, aelven ruins and a little rocky outcrop. I've started built another tohnasai tree to swap with the dead tree on my (Harrowmark) shipwreck so that can double as Hysh scenery too. When that is painted I think it will be enough to get going, I may add more later but for now there are other projects waiting!

WarbossKurgan
The Prime Dominion is a land at the edge of Hysh, in the normally inhospitable continent of Haixiah that borders the Perimeter Inimical of the Realm’s Edge. It is an archipelago of floating metalith islands that surrounds a Realmgate waterfall called the Catarhactes. Orbiting around the outer edge of the Prime Dominion is Noctis; a mysterious black sun that pulls material from the Catarhactes and eats light and magic. The interaction between Noctis and the Catarhactes formed the archipelago of the Prime Dominion over thousands of years. As Noctis orbits the Dominion the regions closest to it experience winter and have darker nights than is usual in Hysh. The regions furthest from Noctis experience summer. An enclave of pre-Spirefall aelves have made their home here, hiding from the rest of the Realm in this almost inaccessible domain. But their society is on the brink of destruction from their own hubris. Each of the six factions they have divided into has called on mercenaries and friends for aid in the inevitable war that looms. The unspoiled paradise of the Prime Dominion will soon be shattered! +++ I have finished the scenery for my Hysh Warcry board. I made one more tohnasai tree without basing it, so I could swap out the dead tree on my shipwreck. Now the wreck can serve double-duty as Hysh or Shyish. I can't wait for the start of Animosity III and to get playing some (solo) Warcry games on it. Some shots of the whole board together: Just for fun I have filtered a couple of these photos to make the look like the illustrations from the Lumineth release trailer: Edited May 27, 2021 by WarbossKurgan

Superb, thanks for sharing them here too! I just brought a spare Luminark actaully, for pretty much the same purpose, such a great bits kit. I'm torn between using the books for some custom skirmish terrain or for a necromunda tile I'd been wanting to do for ages! Perhaps I'll have to get another spare kit and do both. The plastic card books are great, I thought they might have been foamcard but I'd not been able to figure out how you got the curve on the spine, but plasticard is a much better idea!
WarbossKurgan
The Library of Galaeron (on Sumina) A cluster of towers, filled with books, scrolls, manuscripts, collected letters, documents and assorted paper records, from across the Realms. Most were once part of a private collection and there is no central theme. The library is in the process of being sorted, ordered and catalogued but most of it is currently a jumbled mess. The small staff work diligently and enthusiastically, but their task is herculean. The parts for this came from lots of different sources: The loaded shelves are from the inside of the Luminark / Hurricanum kit. The big red book on the floor is from Belisarius Cawl. The rest of the "bits" books are Flagellants and Grey Knights. The white books are thick plasticard wrapped in thin plasticard. The piped-piper plaque, the sun sign and the wooden (turnip) sign are from the old Watchtower/Chappel/Fortified manor kit. The strongbox on the top is from the old Empire Great Cannon kit. The hourglass is from the battlemage kit. The bigger shields and wine bottle are from Freeguild Guard. The smaller shields are from various Grey Knights. The (bird and human) skulls are all from the Citadel Skulls box. The "back board" is a door from the Mighty Fortress. The central pillar is the "floor" of the Ogor Ironblaster Cannon carriage. I've no idea where the orange crystal-in-a-claw is from! (Update: Don Vermeer told me on Facebook that the crystal in a claw is from Skaven Plague Monks. Thanks Don!) The scattered papers have some maps that are references to the current and previous Animosity Campaigns. flamingwalnut
That library is an AMAZING little piece, great example of fun projects so far outside the "usual" army builds of wargaming. Love it! Animosity looks like fun! No idea how well I can participate, but will watch it with interest! Love the board, gives off the Hysh theme without going overboard.
