Planar
For me Ardboyz represent the common GW tactic of makign the ugliest, oldest sculpt of your army, the most essential one competitive -wise so that you have to buy and paint tons of something sub-par while ignoring all the amazing models . I could never get to grips with assemblying and painintg more than 10. Seriously It has been done so many times by GW it is hard to believe it is a coincidence. Ardboyzs, skinks, witch elfs, demonetes, marauders... For this and just this reason I am negatively predisposed against ardboyz. I would like to see them been given a new sculpt with the now rumored Ironjawz wave 2. Edited March 11, 2021 by Planar
Backbreaker
I also dislike arboyz. They don't fit the Ironjawz aesthetic without a lot of work. And they are our best unit. I decided to forget about list building and play with a bit of every unit we have (aka not a lot^^). One of their downside is their weapon range 1" with their base. It's a big issue for me. Or against this new (stupid) allopex rule. It's a reason to try butes with 2" range for me. But even then : their warscroll is easier to read, less different weapons ! Ardboyz are even superior on that aspect ^^ I need to proxy a Boss Fist, maybe there Brutes will have their place ? Edit : my custom ardboyz ! Vasshpit
@Backbreaker Awesome Urruk Hai styled helmets. 👍 I'd really like to see Brutes able to loadout like Evocators, being able to mix & match all available weapon options. This wouldn't break them but it might give a boost. I'm not a #s player but someone may be able to tell if this would help at all. They really did get neutered this last go around. those weapons are bigger than most infantry models and you're telling me they're rend -1... Pssssh.... Grot, please....😄 Edited March 11, 2021 by Vasshpit
Subscriber SunStorm Posted March 11, 2021 Subscriber Share Posted March 11, 2021 @Backbreaker Oh yes I like those! Did you use a file to wear the armour down to get that beaten look? I guess we are somewhat lucky in that the Orcy aesthetic does lend itself to being able to use other kits, especially with such a large back catalogue of orc parts we can use. Lost a bit of my fingers on that, not gonna lie...

It's coming back...🤔 What are you expecting the old world game to be? What are you expecting to come back? I expect a smaller version of Fantasy to be created and maintained by Forge World and Specialist Games akin to The Hobbit. Resin models, all new models and armies. It will have little if any crossover to AoS. I also don't expect the old 16 armies to be back. How will they copyright Tomb Kings? 30k wasn't using old Rogue Trader era models (the RBT0 kit was a classic reselling of missile launchers, and other heavy weapons) it was selling new fancy space marines that were expensive and boutique. So,.. I don't expect to see all the old plastic kits back with square bases. GW is improving the range not degrading it.
Vasshpit
@Popisdead I have no expectations, only assumptions. I can assume that it's a return to a very well established setting and can assume that many iconic things from said setting, a.k.a. Black Orcs, will make a return along with new things like the previewed Kislev. I'm sure we'll see orcs I'm some form or another. I agree that old plastics wont make a return but those underlying concepts, again a.k.a. Black Orcs, will return. Again, just an assumption but I bet a fairly safe one. I just dont think there's a need for them in both setting was my point. Also, I may be naive on this but I'd bet GW owns the copyrights to Tomb Kings. 😉
Malakithe
What pulled me into Ironjawz was the Brutes and Maw-krusha, not Ardboyz. The range needs to be expanded for sure and from a gameplay point of view I would like to see Brutes put into the spotlight over Ardboyz 3

I would be shocked if GW felt they could win any copyright ownership of,.. a mummy. Looking realistically Ard Boys will mostly likely stay. They fill a smaller infantry purpose and while the models are hurting they will likely get redone some day not done away with. AoS likes to move towards smaller kits that are more fancy. I can see a 5-man Ard Boy kit that looks better coming out soon. You will also not see them return in Old World. This reasoning is based on assumptions the old world is coming back in the form of a previous edition of WFB which it will not.
