C0deb1ue
Howdy all, saw the grave lords preview for Direchasm and it peaked my interest... what do I need to start if I want to pick up that crew when it comes out? Do you still need to buy everything to get all the cards etc? Base set etc? any help greatly appreciated
Arzalyn
How do you plan to approach the game? A casual start (like for playing with friends and things like that), is much cheaper than a competitive one (if you want to go to tournaments). The best way to get started is getting one of the Start sets. It will give you 2 warbands, 2 boards, dices and the markers/tokens. It has everything you need to play. Which start depends on how you wanna play. For competitive play only the last two seasons have validy cards, so look for the Beastgrave or Direchasm start. For casual play, you can go with the second or first edition starter set as well (I would avoid the first, there were a good amount of new rules from the first to the second edition, but little additions form the second to the third and the third to the fourth). If you don't want to buy a starter set, the essentials wound be getting 2 warbands (for the miniatures and deck), the 2 boards and the dices (they release thematic ones for each warband generally). The boards by themselves can be a little harder to find... Each warband expansion (like the Vampires are) is self contained. It will give you the miniatures and a deck to play with that warband. The decks have faction especific cards and general ones, so with more warbands you get the more card options to construct a deck you have. That is particullar important for competitive play, has you will want to have a strong deck (which can get expensive as it generally means getting all the warbands). For casual play you don't even need to make changes to the decks, just pick the ones you like the look and start playing.
rattila
I just saw in the last preview that they will sell another starter set, with easy to build mini (some nighthaunt and the stormcast with the weird crossbows and the gryph hound) and pre - build decks. Maybe that will lower the entry cost? I mean, easy to build mini that everybody knows vs new gorgeous sculpts & 2 pre-build decks Vs the great amount of cards... what can the price of that be? 40 € ? What are your tought on it?

What are your tought on it? That was the cost of Dreadfane so yeah, sounds about right. I'd love if it were cheaper - the smallest AoS starter is €31.97, the same price as a single Direchasm warband, has twice the minis but more meaningfully about half the paper/cardboard - but €40 or thereabouts would work. Anything more than that and the difference between this new starter and the 'regular' Direchasm starter begins to vanish.
Fuxxx
Just remember - if you want to play the crimson court maybe get the direchasm core box and not the new starter box. That one has a simplified rule book without lethal hexes and wizards. The crimson court contains two wizards. There are no magic cards in the essential card pack or the new starter box. All releases now have premade decks. The crimson court has 32 faction specific cards that can be used as a deck and 30 additional cards to use for deck building. Some of those cards fit in especially well with the crimson court I think. You'll also need magic dice which are not in the new starter box. So if you want to play vampires you'll probably need the normal direchasm box. And if you want more cards afterwards I guess the new essential card pack is nice. The cards will not rotate out with the seasons so you'll be able to use them for quite some time. And some of them are great (others not admittedly).
