I've been thinking about this as well but SGL will already have a number of big centrepiece models - Nagash (potentially), mortarch (Nef/Mann), Coven Throne, Palanquin, VLZD. Seems a bit saturated.

I don't think GW really care about saturation if they think it'll shift expensive boxes.

If we remove Nagash (just hypothetically), that's only three kits. Plus, while the Mortis Engine kit is cool, it does not have the rules to be a proper centerpiece. Even Ideoneth, with their small model range, have the Turtle, Akhelian King and Eidolon.

Also, for big releases, including a new centerpiece seems to be the modus operandi for GW since OBR at least. Katakros, Teclis, the Slaanesh Chariot, as well as the Triumph of St. Celestine and the Silent King in 40k. Maybe the Mega Gargant, too, but that's kind of reaching.

I think if SGL is a large release, a new centerpiece seems fairly likely.

Have Abhorash sat on top of a bloodthirster with weapon firmly lodged in its head, like the LOTR model of Gimli with his axe in the Uruk Hai's head. Job done.

Here's what I *expect* for new kits:

• Vampire Lord (confirmed)
• Zombies (many preview images suggest this imo).

Here's what I think is reasonably likely, but I wouldn't be at all surprised not to see them:

• Blood Knights (seen no sign of them, but surely even GW knows that a new vamp faction release without plastic blood knights would be taken very poorly by the community?)
• Fell Bats (there's bad and dated models, and then there's the fell bats, if they don't get updated I could see them getting dropped outright)
• Faction Terrain (most factions get them, but I could just as easily see the mausoleum repackaged as vamp count terrain)
• Endless Spells (most factions get them, but I could just as easily see us getting some bonus when using the shyish associated spells).

These I think would be cool, and I'm not at all saying they're impossible, but I just don't think it's reasonable to expect them:

• infantry vampire unit (apart from AoS rules for the Underworlds warband.  Not unless the Gravelords actually are an all new all vampire  faction and I'm wrong about this entire thread)
• New centerpiece model (bespoke Vhordrai would be cool, but I've seen no indication of this and we have a lot of centerpiece options already - three different kits for eight different units)
• New cavalry vampire lord and/or wight king (would be cool, kind of needed, but I've seen no sign of them and based on what other factions have seen both of these could easily be left with existing finecast models or just dropped outright)
• New dire wolves - they're dated, the weird domed mounds attaching them to their bases are just terrible, and with a faction shift from 'Undead Legions' back to 'Vampire Counts', I really would like to see dire wolves moved aesthetically and conceptually from zombie wolves back to vampire wolves.  But as bad and dated as the dire wolf kit is, it is in plastic, and as far as oldhammer hold over plastics go it's even a comparatively recent kit, so I just don't see the bean counters approving it.
• New spellcaster specialist generic vamp hero in the necrarch mold.  Would be nice, it's kind of sad that a single generic vampire lord unit is the only basic vampire hero option in the vampire army, but if there were more than one kind of basic vampire hero I don't think one of them would be called something as broad and generic as 'vampire lord'.
• Ogre Sized zombie flesh thralls / frankenstein monsters.  If they're pushing new zombies, as they seem to be, then semi elite monstrous infantry zombies would be cool and make sense, and the range is a bit lacking in models at that scale, but I've seen no indication of them in lore or preview images.
• Werewolves: I've seen some folks suggest them, and, as with ogre zombies, they could certainly be cool, and would fill a bit of a gap in the range.  But I've seen little sign of them, and in warhammer land shapechanging beast monsters are usually more of a chaos thing.

Do we think both zombies and skeletons then? The skeleton Underworlds warbands is one of my favourites but I swear the skeleton warriors kit is one of the most infuriatingly fiddly kits I’ve ever had to put together, I wouldn’t miss it honestly. I’d be happy if we only get zombie thralls of various kinds + vampires.
