Grimblaze
What’s people’s thoughts on the graphical gaming mats (grass, rocks, roads etc) and any recommendations for good ones (with clear graphics)? Do like the idea and tempted, just wondering if it’s worth the investment? Edited August 25, 2020 by Grimblaze
EccentricCircle
I love the mats made by Deep Cut studios. I have several for different types of terrain, and they are great. They come in a range of sizes, and have a huge variety of designs, some themed for AoS specifically and others more general. I'd definitely recommend them.
Ninelives
I am happy with the one I got from Gamemat.eu ! It's the double sided snow village / rocky grass. I had made a table out MDF and based it with sand, but the smooth feeling and sounds of dice on a mat is much nicer in my opinion.
Khadral
Pwork wargames have a nice selection of gaming mat and for every theme you can choose size and material (PVC/neoprene/cloth). Definitely worth the investment!
Subscriber SunStorm Posted August 25, 2020 Subscriber Share Posted August 25, 2020 (edited) I can recommend Gamemat.eu I went for their 6"x 4" Sands of Time desert style, plus a set of their pre-painted resin terrain, Badlands set which makes a great backdrop for my Ghur themed Ironjawz. Very happy with the setup. Edited August 25, 2020 by SunStorm 2
DINOSTAR
This one is from frontline gaming and it's been great! I think it helps keep things from breaking when models fall over, and is very crisp, clear, and sits flat. No complaints and not even very expensive (at least compared to everything else in this hobby!)
Euphanism
I'll also vouch for Frontline, I picked up a couple of their mats after playing on them at LVO last year. Super nice quality and durability, no creases, and they had some that fit my personal preference of being more 'plain' so that scenery and units stand out. Plus they come with quality bags for storage/travel! Weirdly, of the two I bought, one was about 1" longer than expected, and the other was 3" longer. Not complaining (my table doesn't have walls so it didn't bunch up) but it's worth noting.
Greyshadow
Gosh that Badlands one looks good. I’ve noticed that some of these mats look far too busy in photographs and videos and the models get lost in them. I am not sure that would be such a problem in real life though due to the angle you look at them? I noticed this with Silver Tower board which looked much better on the table than in pictures. I own one of the GW cardboard battlefields and I think they are neat too. So compact and it gives me that wonderful feeling you get when you set up a board game. 🙂 Edited August 25, 2020 by Greyshadow
zombiepiratexxx
I have mats from Gamemat.eu and Deep Cut Studios. Various sizes, various types and would have no issues recommending any of them.
Bayul
I can recommend Gamemat.eu as well. Sturdy mat that came with a bag.
Sputnik
Just bear in mind that if we do get an AOS 3rd edition next year I've heard a lot of people predicting that GW will switch to a smaller table size to be in line with 40k. Might not be an issue for you at all, but worth considering.
