Gotrek and Skink Starpiest "Serpent Staff"

Hi,

Played a game with Gotrek against Seraphon and this question came up.

Skink Starpiest buffs up a unit of Skinks with "Serpent Staff" ability. The Skinks firing 80 shots, hitting 30 of them, and then rolling 5 sixes on the wound rolls. Does Gotrek make 5 saves against the Mortal Wounds using "Shoulder Plate of Edassa", or are the 5 MWs considered 1 MW becuase of "Avatar of Grimnir? and therefor only make 1 save roll for that?

The MW on the wound rolls are there because of an ability from the Starpriest so that why it's maybe reduced to 1 MW, but the ability says "if the unmodified wound roll for an attack made by that unit is 6, that attack inflicts 1 mortal wound on the target in addition to any normal damage", so the MWs are coming from the separate attacks?

Sorry if confusing, hope you understand :) Seen many threads of how Gotreks rules should be interpret, but couldn't find an answer for this one.

It is 5 super save rolls and if they are failed it is one damage for each one. This is because they represent individual attacks. If you had a single hero that had 1 attack that did 5 damage it would be reduced to 1 damage if he failed his super save.

Yeah it would be 1mw for each roll of a 6, but gotrek specifically states each attack can only cause 1 wound, so the ones that got 6s and did mortal wounds will NOT do any normal damage on top, seeing as the mortal wound is from the same attack and is 'in addition to any normal damage', this would mean those 6s were causing 2 damage from 1 attack, which gotrek changes to 1. So he takes the mortal wounds and ignores the normal wounds caused by those 5 attacks that got 6s to wound.
