Aos 2 - Lumineth Realm-Lords Discussion

Seeing that there is a Lumineth-related thread...

Could you guys help me with understanding Teclis and Tyrion? They've been mentioned in the AoS fluff in many places, but I have no idea who they actually are. With the Lumineth being revealed now, I understand that Teclis is an aelf-turned-god who created them. I also gather that Tyrion is his brother (and not the Westeros character). But what are these guys like, actually? What was their role in the old Warhammer setting?

Also, what's up with the "hero resurgent" part of the Lumineth trailer on Warhammer TV? I suppose it's the "hollow armour" guy... but who is that - some other WFB character?

And as we're speaking of aelf characters, who is Malerion (aside from being Morathi's son?) BTW. I certainly hope we won't get any big Dark / Shadow Aelf faction that will assimilate Daughters of Khaine! I love Morathi and her serpent women and I'd prefer them to stay distinct. And I actually like the idea of there being many unrelated factions of weird aelves. Introducing a High / Light and Dark / Shadow aelf split would be dated and very D&D...

If you want a quick explanation, malerion was once an elf named malekith (the same name as the marvel villain)

this elf wished to lead the elves as a Phoenix king if I recall correctly, his mother (Morathi)  helped him in this regard for her own selfish reasons. They eventually succeeded and he was allowed to take the initiation ritual. This ritual involved being on fire until the gods recognized you as worthy. Malekith stepped into the flames and was wrought in so much pain he gave up before he could be crowned king. It is then revealed in the end times that he really was the chosen one, and just needed to wait in the flames for a few more seconds. Anyways Morathi heals him I think and I’m missing a whole bunch of info but civil war of sorts starts between malekith and his loyal followers and the elves. Malekith is then exiled after the conflict, retreating north to carve out his own empire with his conniving mother Morathi. These elves following him become the dark elves, and the elves that exiled them are the high elves.

during the endtimes he leads the elves against chaos under one banner. After the old worlds destruction he was fused with his dragon and took the name malerion. He found himself in shadow (I assume someplace in the realm of shadow) and eventually was able to make himself a physical form. He found more creatures like him (dragon elf demon things, demon meaning monster and not actual chaos daemons) and he found his mother as well. Now he controls the realm of shadow, and every attacking army finds themselves swallowed by darkness before disappearing forever, presumably dragged away by malerions elves in the gloom.

this explanation is from my own headcannon and hearsay as I’ve never read any actual elf lore! Please correct me if I’m wrong but that seems what I understand

You have the high points correct.  What you miss out on is that Malekith caused the civil war between High and Dark Elves, assassinating Bel Shanar because the Princes picked him over Malekith to be king.  He then butchered his way into the Shrine of Asuryan.  Afterwards his burns were so bad Morathi had a suit of armor magically forged to his wasted frame to give him strength.  Even after he eventually lost his first assualt on Ulthuan, which culminated in him sinking a huge chunk of the northern coast, he remained a huge threat to all of the good aligned races.  He was responsible for the Dwarf-Elf wars, dressing his warriors as High Elves and attacking Dwarven caravans.  When Tyrion and Teclis arise to oppose him is when things really kick off.

I know I will be in the minority on this one, I really hope that they do not include the bolt thrower

I still think one of the "hammers" we saw is actually a counterweight for a Lumineth Trebuchet.

Or it could be the focal point for some sort of tower or plinth that fires magical bolts at anything in range.  It could be a combined terrain piece and artillary!

If you enjoyed the first two, the next part of my Great Canon series exploring Teclis' full tabletop and publication history is up, covering 6th edition and his first Black Library appearance in Giantslayer:

Feedback as always welcome. :)

Edit: @PiotrW, I've just seen your post and realised that the first couple of articles in my series give a pretty solid basic overview of 1/3 of what you're asking for in Teclis, with more to come on his involvement in the End Times, and AoS appearances to date coming in future installments:

@PiotrW

With regards to Eltharion, the following wiki article describes his history well enough:

https://warhammerfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Eltharion

And this link describes both the above and goes into his death during the End Times.

what about a bolt thrower... on a flying chariot?

I hope they make the Skycutter replacement. The character that comes with it is still one of the best looking elves I've ever seen.

Not interested. Make it a flying chariot that drops magic bombs... that sounds cool!

so a gyrobomber :P

not saying you're wrong, asI personally like bolt throwers as a weapon, but I think any siege weapon Lumineth get have a chance of being an iteration of one that already exists.

Naw I dont want it to be a chopper, I want it to be a sleek flying machine, maybe like a bomber or a fighter jet lol.... and I agree, I think it is very likely we will get an lumineth take on a bolt thrower. Also if we do get them I will be painting and using them, I just dont particularly prefer them, and would rather they go something more high fantasy.

I'd be happy if they re-introduce the old Skycutter model into the army.

If we get anything flying, I'd rather it be the return of the true Dragon Princes.  I want to remind everyone of the power of the Aelves by riding around on the battlefield burning their armies to ash!

I second that, I want to have copious amounts of dragons to paint.... burninating the country side is just a bonus for me!

Same, same. The eagles are neat models too, however I'm highly doubtful that's going to happen.

It seems fairly clear that the old High Elf models were not included in Cities of Sigmar because they would be too close to the Lumineth.  So the removal of the models could, in some cases especially with the more modern models, have been a temporary measure until Lumineth are released.  I'm not full of expectation, but I do think it is possible.

I hope they incorporate Phoenix Temple, at very least as allies.

Speaking of fun stuff, is anyone already thinking about terrain / display boards? I am already trying to consider a few ideas, like a Romanesque temple to Teclis or a wall for the elves to defend.

would be cool if we could use our LRL as an option for "9th Age" just magnetize bases. I do agree that a lot of the line could have been cut due to how similar they are. I also agree that I am not expecting much in that dept. I do also hope that we can ally and take phoenix temple cause having some phoenixes (not sure the plural) flying around would be cool.

Well, the models we have seen so far (except for Teclis) would fit right in to The Old World, providing they use the same scale.  Having re-based 200+ models already, I am not returning to square bases.  I'm not sure I want to return to a Rank and File game either, to be honest - AOS has a more free-flowing nature to it.  Rank and File, for me, would need to be10 mil or 6 mil scale for that truly epic (Napoleonic) feel.  But I suspect that would prove very controversial.

I third that! To me the "Dragon Princes" were the best of the best and need to return.....

I'd also be alright with them coming out with some sort of brand new "iconic" unit.  As in, a new unit that is unique to the Lumineth, but is the unit that really captures the essence of the army.  Now, I'm not sure what that would be yet, since we still barely have info on the army.

In the Cities of Sigmar Battletome it says that one of the conditions to become a Annointed is to make a pilgrimage to the Pyre of the Pheonix in Hysh, a crystallized valley filled with the godbeast’s ashes and meditate there for years. So if they can’t ally, they definitely missed a chance to do more with that story.

And I’m sure that the reason why they kept most of the most popular HE units out of the Cities Battletome, like White Lions, Swordmasters and Dragon Knights, is because they’ll come back in their AOS form with the Lumineth. It wouldn’t make much sense otherwise to do that. We already know that key parts of the basic troops and Eldritch Council which got the same treatment are part of the Lumineth.

And in play style terms, they made the perfect anvil, so we need our hammers, with all the nostalgia they created (Swordmasters were part of the pointy aelves video), they must bring back at least some of them.

A new edition of Warmaster would be dope.

I can understand all of this. I hadn't played WHFB for a few editions, and stayed away due to lacking an Army I liked. I am excited about LRL and my entry into the game and re-entry in the hobby.

I think that GW will have an interesting balance in this army, figuring out them to be new enough and AOS-ey enough for new players but also nostalgic enough for old players.
