Knight Scáthach of Fimm Posted September 30, 2019 Share Posted September 30, 2019 (edited) So this big chungus was just teased for Warcry, and it's clear based on its name and appearance, that the Fomoroid Crusher is based on the Fomorians of Irish myth; specifically, Balor of the Evil Eye. This may tie into Fimir, although the only similarity is name origin and single eye. I hope this is a relative of the Fimir in one way or another. It appears to be a 60mm base, so he's just a little smaller than a Dankhold Troggoth. Post your speculations below. JPjr Posted September 30, 2019 Share Posted September 30, 2019 (edited) I would say that yes whilst - like everyone's favourite sexually problematic swamp monsters - it definitely owes it's name and some of its physical characteristics to the Fomorians I would be amazed if it had anything at all to do with the Fimir in game/universe. For a start apart from its cyclopean nature it doesn't really share anything else with them, certainly in terms of physical appearance. Plus haven't the Fimir been firmly distanced from Chaos in AoS anyway and also I think GW would be very happy if most people just forgot about the Fimir existing tbh. Anyway absolutely lovely model and can't wait to get my mitts on it. So I don't expect anything in regards to fimir, and I certainly hope this guy is not related at all, since it would imply a parting of their iconic* look. *If such term can be used for something as obscure as fimirs.... Like if this dude lobbed a boulder at a walkway and it collapsed under the fighters, or he pulls away a chunk of masonry to drop on someone, causing a wall to collapse. That would go some way towards delivering the ridiculous gravity assissted shenanigans - falling, bouncing - currently only delivered by Necromunda. Knight Scáthach of Fimm Posted September 30, 2019 Author Share Posted September 30, 2019 Well the good news is that he will be usable in AoS, as all Warcry is. I'm expecting 8/9 wounds, 4+ save. Some kind of punching melee attack, and when within 3" of a terrain feature, he can throw a boulder/ tree. If it's something like the rockgut trolls then it'll be useful. They're certainly a distinct army that is pretty popular when they appear on a table. That said, the Fomoroid very much sits within a Chaos theme (at least this miniature) and I'm not sure we'd see such a big leap to change Fimir from a Destruction army to Chaos one. What would be cool would be to have Fomoroid being part of something within the same environment as Fimir (hopefully with some special rule of "in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king") 4 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

zedatkinszed Posted September 30, 2019 Share Posted September 30, 2019 (edited) The Formor / Formorians were ancient Irish giants / Lovecraftian fish gods / pirates (it's not straightforward). Their name has been translated into English as Fomor and Fimir, so its perfectly possible GW took two different inspirations from the same myth - and it doesn't necessarily mean there is an AOS connection between the 2 races at all. The AOS Fomoroids might just be a cousin of the Ogroids. TBH he does look a little like the OgroidThaumaturge, just beefier. Also a one eyed Formorian is totally inspired by Balor (which is cool for Celtic myth nerds like me). Cannot wait to get my hands on this model tho! A beast that walks rather like T-rex only with larger forearms and claws; carrying a rider and two bags on its back (either side). It's tail is a long prehensile length that curls to a grabbing claw at the end which curls up, grasps ammo from the bag and then slings it forward. A living walking artillery unit! I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be a new race/sub group present in the rumoured upcoming Ogor codex. We have already seen an example of "new" races introduced in specialist games just being absorbed into existing factions. Although the model looks like it might go nicely with bits from various troggoth or ogor kits for conversions, depending on its size. I think this is a slave of some kind judging by the shackles. This may be filling the niche the Fimir had in chaos, that being cyclopean brutes. Fimir have evolved in a new direction, so a replacement to fill the gap they had seems likely, and offers an interesting design space. I like this more than say just chaos trolls. I wonder if pumping all this Warcry stuff out is to double for a StD battletome release. By then all they would need is to drop endless spells and terrain because all this stuff will be included in a more formal way in the book. i also like that at least the clops was smart enough to cover his eye!
