The Rumour Thread

So, I don't follow 40k news, but some info has beed flodding into my gaming whatsapp groups. Info that will probably be relevant for AoS future.
Seems like there is going to be a point increase for all units. This seems like a smart move if they want to keep atracting people to the hobby in the dire economic future that awaits us. Not sure how 40k scales with AoS in this regard, but anyway I think we can expect the fantasy game to follow the same route as soon as they can implement it.

There is also table size reductions and apparently some focus in shorter games, which is where modern games are headed anyway, and where they were stepping into with Meeting Engagements.

Again, I think all of this gives a hint on AoS future.

 Thoughts?

I don't buy it:

1. GW's financial incentive is to do the opposite.

2. The brand new Lumineth army appears to have relatively low points costs. A lot of people were expecting a higher points per model than it looks like we're getting.

I'm sorry where are we getting these points costs from? I haven't heard anything about them, or anything about their rules other than what's been released by GW themselves..

The points for everything except the Alarith Mountain spirit were leaked in the white Dwarf 454 battlereport images.

Just to speak to the first point -- you're correct up to a point. However, at some point the cost of starting an army, the daunting task of painting a huge number of models just to get up to the standard army size, and the difficulties of playing a game in a timely fashion begin to overwhelm the financial advantage of encouraging consumers to buy more models through reduced points costs.

Overall, points costs have been getting lower and lower for years if not decades in the case of 40k. It may be that their market research is showing them that they are finally hitting the tipping point where they must backtrack some.

Also, from what I've seen GW outright announced that in 9th point costs are going up across the board. I'm not sure why you wouldn't buy it if GW is outright saying it's going to happen.

Thats a good point about the Lumineth, unlike other armies, they seem to lack any expensive or elite  infantry and cavalry, everything is between 100 and 140 points.  I wonder if this is the new norm or just a Lumineth specific route.

Just a small quibble but 14 points per wound is quite expensive for anything other than heroes and monsters. 10 points per wound is definitely not in expensive/elite territory, but most factions' cheap troops are in the 5-8 points per wound range.

I believe that 40k points dropped quite a lot over the course of 8th edition. The changes feel more like a reset than a declaration that armies should be smaller.I don’t see any reason why this will carry over to AoS.

The board size thing is more interesting. When I first read I thought the 40k community would treat it the same way we treated the scenery changes on ghb  2019, so it was a surprise to see some of the big TOs endorsing it. It will be very interesting to see how this goes down over the next few months. I’m sure the AoS team is also watching closely.

I would love it too, but I think that if we get something LRL related in addition the GHB, it will be the Battlebox only.

OR they'll put everything together to gain more space for ending PA in 40k ASAP......

I'd honestly love if this weekend were LRL Battlebox and GHB along with Scions of the Flame. Then next week drop the rest of the LRL with the Eomer model for LOTR and the following the week the Sons of Behemat.

Dang, this sucks.  I know 9th Edition for 40k is a big deal, but can we get some AoS sprinkled in?  Plenty of things that could be shown.  Lumineth/SoB Warscrolls rules, alt paint jobs, so much material to squeeze out on the WarComm page.

And a preview for 40k only next Saturday

Interesting they use live shows now to preview stuff, that’s a change from the pre-recorded videos. So as someone said earlier, there’s lots of 40K stuff that needed to go out before 9th edition and they are rushing it out to avoid any change in release timeline for the 9th...

But the aelves cannot be that far out considering the white dwarf is coming end of the month? Maybe they go in pre-order at the same time?

Pretty sad... But that mean PA is almost done (only Pariah left), and July (between 11 and 25, i.e. the rumored release date for 40k 9th edition) is still quite far off.

SO it means we'll surely see something for AOS in-between, like a one-week release for SoB or the LRL boxset :D:D:D

It's good for the 40K fans for sure and hopefully that means next week will be the last of the 40K stuff until 9th Edition because who knows when AOS will get a release after that Haha

And surely they wouldnt release a PA back to back weeks so maybe the Lumineth Battlebox will be dropped next week and then the following week will be the final PA with the Scions of the Flame then Sons the week after?

Imposible, Blood Bowl, Necromunda, Beastgrave... Sons of Behemat before August is impossible... and with this "next week" i am down now... I think a few things will be postponed

Damnit I forgot all about the Specialist game releases still to come. Well looks like my wallet stays intact another 3 months. And that's only if the UK doesnt go back into lockdown which is a possibility.

If I was a betting man (I’m not as rubbish at it), I would guess the following....

1) Sons of Behemat will be the next AOS release as I believe it was shipped earlier this year

2) it’s going to be 40k for more weeks now. Box unveiling this weekend and guessing up for preorder the weekend after (20th June). Also guessing two week period for this as well due to most of their new editions happen in July and lots of people in UK typically get paid at the end of the month (so hoping for June pay check burning hole in people’s pocket).

I think the issue is the logistics as 40k is their flagship product and they would have put a lot of resource and planning into it. AOS will have its moment and I’m sure there’s lots of special things on the way

Da Moon told me that today is the day of Lumineth and Generals Handbook 2020 next week pre-order.

Da moon lied to you!

But keep smiling, GW has no interest to sit on new stuff forever. As soon as they can they will release them. Probably very soon.
