The Rumour Thread

It's kind of hard to do fantasy and not draw inspiration from historical cultures (and by hard, I mean near impossible here). Thing is, GW hasn't made a single faction for AoS that draws on just one culture or even worse just the pop cultural image of just one culture and I doubt they'll go back to that game now.

This is finally getting me excited for death. The sneak peaks all seem more interesting than spooky bed sheet ghosts. However I will knock on wood as I was also excited for bedsheets before full reveal lol.

I'm hoping as big a new release as the Gitz were. Talking about half a dozen new kits or more, endless spells, terrain and of course a tome the ties all that together and adds existing kits as an integral part of it.

That might be what would make me finally start a Death faction.

Looking at the release roadmap the 31st of August looks like to be all clear for AoS right?

Assuming the 21st is Beastgrave, there are another 2 weekends before that in September. Do we have anything previewed recently still waiting his own release aside AoS? I reckon all specialist games got what they were waiting this weekend, Blood Bowl too has everything being released, right?

So now we have 3 weeks for some AoS stuff and some more 40k, and in theory we would have a glimpse of the future this weekend from Nova. Sounds right?

Primaris are still awaiting their unit kits for Eleminators and Infiltrators.

Blood Bowl has the Lizardmen team previewed but unreleased.

There's also two more unseen Warcry warbands, not yet anounced, but they are in the Corebook and pretty much certain to come at some point.

We might see the new Warbands at the Nova coming up. Otherwise AoS actually has a fair bit with the two new Tomes to come and the rumours building on both Ogres and Death. Good times, we are just having a little break after a month of Warcry (2 weeks pre-order, 2 weeks releasing models).

Honestly its rocking up to be a VERY chock full end of the year and that's from what we know. At least two full army releases (Death and Sisters of Battle); several battletomes, expansion content for Warcry likely, a whole new expansion and edition of Underworlds. Heck in September we even get two special edition books, a new book and a new audio novel for Gotrek!

After the announced preorders for next week, I count 18 weeks remaining this year so we have:

Sisters - 3 weeks

Awakening-3 weeks

Beastgrave

Aeronautica

Death - 2 weeks

Lizardmen/ warcry / beastgrave combined week

Ogors

Cities of sigmar/ wartribes

Battleforces

Paint bundles

Marines

Tzeentch

That makes for 17 weeks. These are just guesses of course but it shows how full the schedule is. I think in the vaguest sense we know what is coming. The remaining previews will just fill in the blanks about exactly what awakening and the new death release are.

It's tricky because we never know what GW will double up on or might spread out even more. Personally I'm really hoping we get 6 Battletomes for AoS in this half of the year, that averages out to one per month for the whole of the year and would mean we went into 2019 hardly needing any more Tomes to complete the game. Of course the Sylvanath delay could have pushed us into getting one less; or perhaps GW will put two on at once. They could also pull a surprise and throw KO and Seraphon out in a double week too (since I suspect both will be the same - book, spells and terrain only). It's a bit of a shame to think we might get Tzeentch instead of Slaves to Darkness if just because then we could have hit Christmas with every army having a Battletome. I'd also note that we've had no confirmation of Tzeentch, its purely guesswork based off a few rumours (not all of which are reliable) and also the recent stories in Forbidden Powers; however lore based theories are always risky as a lot gets put into them that never gets developed.

As far as I was aware, SoB were "Emperor willing, 2019". Did we get an official release date for them? At this point I could see them being a 2020 release, easy. Same goes for the Psychic Awakening, that might not be coming this year; Space Marines might be the last big 40k release for 2019.

Whatever ogres get will likely be released alongside the first wave of the Tithe, CoS/Warclans are almost guaranteed to be a 1 week dual release, and if I'm remembering right, paint bundles and battleforces release at the same time, yeah? Even if only one of the big 40k things happens, an extra 3 weeks of breathing room would still clear up a lot of the schedule.

We haven’t had any confirmation of Slaves to Darkness either though, as far as I know? Tzeentch is just speculation because the scale of the release seems to fit better this year rather than what the StD release would probably be. I also don’t really think StD coming before Christmas or early next year really matters for anything, either way it’s not long til every army has a battletome. I hope they’re saving StD and giving it a bigger release, rather than it coming this year and being smaller.

They said at Warhammerfest that SoB were still on track for this year. While that might have changed, I don’t think it will have changed much since then.

That looks a really busy agenda, I forgot the lizard men team, but in my mind was together with Beastgrave.

What about the rumours of the Exodites? I don’t follow 40k but if they are not Seraphon rumours is it possible 40k is getting a new army after sisters and in that case could that steal some more space from AoS this year?

That's strange, it's almost like you're implying GW would give any attention to xenos.

Exodites are rumour only because GW has done several articles on Eldar and put them in it as background info. That said its been a potential Eldar theme for DECADES. It's just one that they've never really looked into doing properly in the game. I would say anything is possible but an update to Craftworld is far more likely and needed considering that most of the plastics are super old and most of their core aspect warriors are finecast. Things like the guardian kit really show their age now - though some of the vehicles are ok (viper and falcon)

It is that kind of sculp that never ages. All the Eldar vehicle are intemporal: motojet, vyper, falcon chassis (all: serpent, falcon , etc...), all their dreads even the walker. But their troops show dramatically their age (except the recent excellent kit: wraith guards).  It was my very first main army in early 90'.

It is unfortunate because rule wise, it is one of the best armies.

Not related to the thread, so I'll keep it brief, but actually, the Exodites rumor comes from Atia (whose track record is near 100% barring the plastic Thunderhawk that even caught her off guard when it turned out false), stating we may see them in a few years - a few years ago. She said this in the same month that she said we'd see Enforcers in Necromunda in a few years. Which have indeed just shown up recently. Of course, that was a may, instead of the usual matter-of-fact rumors she states. But if Atia thinks it might happen, that's usually good enough to go off of.

And yeah, I agree, today's rumor engine looks a lot like the Scions of Flame. And not just because its a flame, but that does look Chaos-y. I don't want to double-post, but someone over I trust over on another site has been posting some interesting comments regarding the new Death army. Take with salt of course, but I thought it was interesting:

I don't have Warhammer Quest, but I do wonder what this fluff is he referring to is, and if it matches anything we've seen so far about this new army.

If Exodites become a thing I might have to sell a kidney or two or perhaps a lung. I do find it interesting that GW highlights them of all the background Eldar subfactions; but then again considering how often Nippon, Araby and Cathay got mentioned in the Old World I'm sure fans of those concepts also felt likewise whenever there was mention of them.

"Ahh we've appeared in Gotrek and Felix, that's bound to be a hint that GW is working on them as a concept".
