The Rumour Thread

Recommended Posts

I think they are orange because Ghur magic colour is amber orange.  Ghur is awkward because despite being the realm where the Orruks are based they can't have green due to the Ghyran the realm of life already taking it (and the fact that the Lore of Beasts users are called Amber Wizards in World That Was).

I love the Underworlds Beastmen. Makes me really wish they got a larger update or some new units.

Sadly I feel like those three regular Kurnothi may very well be my least favorite miniatures out of everything produced for AoS. Like they mixed only the worst parts of very oldschool woodelves with exceedingly awkward Satyrs. But it looks like they'll have their fans. The Centaur looks awesome though.

I must say I was a bit quick with my enthousiasm, and sort-of agree with you.

I really like the concept of elf-satyrs and elf-centaurs, those would fit a very Midsummernight's dream approach to fey, with a fair bit of old Greece mixed in.

The execution is less impressive, hairstyle, especially with the default colours are too Fyreslayer, the models look very fragile, and the poses feel a bit odd.

Still better than getting Stormcast, but not the best models GW ever produced, and the rest of the faction might well be better.

To me it looks like the Kurnothi will be the Scathborn of the new Wanderers faction, with the old models forming the core of normal units (similar to the DoK release).

I also hope we get Kurnoth as Centerpiece model. The lore states that he is a minor god of the hunt in the mortal realms and the husband of Alarielle.

Also, I think the mixed reaction to the Kurnothi is mostly due to the bad pictures/paint job. The models themselves look rather good.

Yeah the angles of the pictures and possibly the painting don't help a couple of the Kurnothi. The clear shot of the horn blower makes him look like a really good model. They have a bit of the early war dancer vibe done by Jes. I think they might be more aligned with Sylvaneth though as they have those seed pods in their chests..

Amber is not even close to the shade of orange they're painted, but I do see what you're saying; Ghur could still have some pretty vibrant yellow among the brown palette that usually comes to mind for "Beasts"

As usual, nice minis.

But....

My feeling is mostly negative because I'm a bit fed up of all those specialist GW games. I understand perfectly the GW strategy which is becoming a big company . They have to make perpetual growth and to increase their income, they can't count on only 2 mainstream games. Saling more boxes is good for the business but we are loosing a bit what make us love this company and their fantastic miniatures/lore.

Blood Bowl lizards - big thumbs up

Aeronautica - looks fun, ah there models on the same scale as Adeptus Titanicus you think or not at all? Anyway looks fun and the kind of game I'd be into, now fingers crossed it does well and next year they do a ship version for AoS.

New Beasts - Like the BoC models though tbh I'd actually prefer them to be much more beastlike, especially with something like a WHU set, I wanted to see lots of different animals mixed up, so lion headed beasts, bull beasts etc etc. Still cool.

Very excited about the Kurnothi as that's totally something I can get behind, I get what people are saying about the poses though, they don't leap out at me (ironically). But will be interesting to see different angles.

Paint scheme is fine for me though, the orange hair is a nod right back to the really early (and possibly later too I guess) Wood Elves being essentially, what we mistakenly think of as, Celts so I get the why's and wherefores.

I have no interest in Beastgrave as a game but love both of the starting warbands for this season, especially the Kurnothi.  Way cooler to me than any of the Warcry teams.

Hoping they do a Warcry version of these guys with more models and variation and then a full AoS army.  I think the poses are ok, I think the photography foreshortens some of them but I bet they will look awesome in person.

I am torn on pulling in Wanderers.  I would love for them to be a wholly stand alone force with maybe a combo battalion to pull in Wanderers easily but I do like the direction of AoS steadily distancing itself from the world that was and typical fantasy tropes with all new armies.  The more they are tied to old-school forces from the world that was the more the designers' hands and imaginations are tied.

Regarding someone who mentioned pulling back in the Sylvaneth, please no.  I am reading the new Tome right now and I love them as they are.  I am not that far into it but they do not mention Wanderers at all in the origin of the Sylvaneth. Allariele wandered alone after being awoken by Sigmar and out of isolation created a new race of her own.  Some of the race had visual traces back to the "protectors" from the world that was that remained in Allariele's memories but they don't mention them in the origins so I am more than happy for them to exist completely on their own.

Of course there's also the chance that Wanderers won't exist at all and the Kurnothi will be a whole new "Beastelf" faction.

So many warbands have been made to battletomes and vice versa so this would not surprise me a bit if they make battletome Wand...I mean Kurnothi

That's merely an old wardancer. These are very old Wardancers ;)

I like the beasts well enough, but for someone who has been longing for a more feral/savage wood elf faction for a long time, the Kurnothi are just not doing it for me. I like the centaur quite a bit, but the other ones not so much. The armor makes them look like they belong in Blood Bowl, the satyr legs are too aesthetically similar to beastmen, and the big orange hair is just not my jam. I like the most recent Wardancer sculpts and really dislike the older versions, so I think that probably sums it up for me. Do we really need more than one big orange hair faction?

To me, what makes the idea of a "beast elves" faction compelling is the uncomfortable contrast between grace and savagery -- and these models look neither graceful nor savage (except the centaur). The posing feels very stiff, the proportions seem weird, and the savagery is heavily deflated by the sense that they've spent more time styling their hair than training for battle.

ALL THAT BEING SAID, I do think that the overall aesthetic is a really nice accomplishment if what they were trying to do was to bring back the old wardancer look and make it new. They definitely did that in spades, it's just not my thing.
